You smile just thinking about the Capitol. The staff is awesome with the owner often cooking on weekends. He's a state rep, not afraid of the heat in the kitchen. This is one of those places that they remember your desires forever after the first visit. They're open 7 days a week now and the menu is extensive. The eggs are simple the best I've ever had and the portions are huge. I've tried to replicate their eggs at home and just can't seem to make it come out the same. Their's are perfection. The place is somewhat small but they crank the food out, so turnover is quick. There is a nice little outside dining patio. Went here this morning after reading good reviews. It's a small but nice old fashioned place with a nice story. (story on back of menu). Food was good but not outstanding. Waitress was the owners daughter, she was quiet but nice. I had a tomato/green pepper omelet, French toast and homefries. Plus my girlfriends meal it came out to 18.xx. Very fair, we will be back for sure. Also, the neighborhood is not as bad as other yelpers make it out to be. read more

I would pass this place on my ride home when I first moved to Lynn. I parked my fixie nearby and stood about 20 feet away the first time I saw it. What the fuck was this..man? The work of some avante garde artist? Or was it a rare, urban mirage? perhaps it was simply some undigested LSD from the 60's that had bubbled up back into my brain when I busted my ass on the Central Square Station steps a few moments before. Or maybe a combination of all three. I wasn't sure. All I could do was look back as I was walking away to make certain it was still there. I came back the next day and.. it was still there. This time, feeling braver, I stood a few feet closer, touching it. It even felt real. The distinctive cool singe of chrome on one's fingertips is unmistakeable. Finally, one saturday morning, I decided to put an end to all this madness and investigate this mysterious looking train car growing out of a factory building. I went inside and sat down. Atmosphere is cool and the service is very attentive although very much in your face if your seated at the counter. Space on the server side of the counter is tight so they are right there and if your a little introverted like myself it's a little too close to be comfortable. Food was just ok, pretty stripped down and plain, nothing special, and no standouts on the menu. It's early Saturday morning and I have the day off.I hustle out of bed and after a quick s.s.and s.,I throw on my leathers and move on down the road.Today's diner discovery will be The Capitol Diner.The Road King is purring along,the sun is shining, and I got a smile on, 'cause we've had nothing but spit and drool from mother nature for the last few days.Rolled up about 7:30 and found a spot right in front of the diner.I like to keep a close eye on my machine because you just never know.Before I even sat down at the counter,I got a couple of "good mornin'". The first thing that caught my eye was the glass counter top.Had quite a bit of wear on it.Wonder how it survived everything and everyone for all those years. This is a beautiful diner and in great shape .A very rare "Brill" diner.Extremely friendly staff and patrons,I was in a few conversations all at once. Ordered an omelet off the specials menu.A little more chat and quickly my breakfast appeared.Later,a nicely dressed man tapped me on the shoulder and asked me how my meal was.He introduced himself as Bob and turns out he is the son of the long time past owner "Buddy".Bob is also the local state rep and we had a nice conversation about diners and such.I really enjoyed my time here.Over all, it is one the best diner experiences I've ever had. love the whole diner experience, they have a cute little outside area where you can eat (although the location isn't the best of Lynn so I am not sure how much it is utilized). breakfast is OK, wouldn't be my first choice, or second.. people are friendly, food is quick and hot. They always seem to mess up my order, and I am guessing it's because they do not write anything down, which is cool if you remember it, or you double check with me and ask, but no such luck. I am pretty easy-going, so I don't complain to them. The mistakes weren't detrimental to my breakfast (missing homefries, bacon and egg sandwich instead of sausage) so I still ate it, but this might not go over as easily with other customers. We just moved to Lynn and MA as a whole, and just discovered the Capitol Diner. The breakfast is very good, the owners warm, welcoming and kind, the setting priceless and the prices unbeatable! No sticky table and not a chain. Mom & Pops owned for 4 generations with a smile, the owner made a point of coming to chit chat and ensure we were happy with our first ever meal there. The Capitol Diner is located near the up and coming downtown of Lynn (we live a block away), brought back to life with loft apartments and many bad ass businesses like the Blue Ox and Turbine Wine Bar. Not sure what the Lynn trash talk is about but it is unnecessary and quite ignorant. It's not an all white town so naturally, it's not for everyone. In fact, I recall it was in Salem we were warned of the "ethnicities" of Lynn upon discussing our having just moved here. Enough said ... read more

A true, old-time diner in the heart of Lynn's historic (albeit rundown) downtown, the Capitol Diner stands out for its food, friendly staff, ambience, and selection. In addition to what one would expect from a classic, excellent "boxcar diner." (namely: good food, attentive waitstaff, and a friendly crowd) the Capitol also offers something I didn't expect: a wide selection. While there are plenty of diner favorites, the menu also features an array of wraps, quesadillas, and even seafood. I ultimately settled on the slightly more boring cheeseburger club, which was good, although a little soft for medium-well. The french fries on the side were just as I like them, crispy and filled with actual potatoes. One day I'll have to try the Capitol Diner's famous breakfast menu. A typical American diner in downtown Lynn, expect the basics: three egg omelettes, pancakes, sandwiches. Recently, the diner upgraded its menu with daily specials such as waffles with fruit and eggs with chorizo. THey are now open on Sundays and have become a very popular breakfast venue for the young hip loft dwellers that have migrated to Lynn in the last 3-5 years. It's OK- It's a Lynn staple... I'm pretty sure it's been on a bunch of TV shows about "classic diners". So that makes them entitled to charge more for basic breakfast food. A wonderful gem in downtown Lynn. This place definitely reminds you of how great Lynn once was (and can be again). The food is good. Sometimes I think they lack a little flavor (depending what you get) but add a little butter and syrup, and you're good. The home fries are a must. The service is kind. It's a little confusing if you've never been there. You usually pay at the cash register, you don't get dropped a check.i highly recommend the Texas French toast with powdered sugar. read more

A quick trip from anywhere in Lynn, the diner is quaint and cozy, the food is served quickly and with a smile. Lots of regulars and everyone is friendly. This place rocks. Simple as that. Great food great prices super staff. You dont get much better. Finish your cup of coffe, before you can blink its refilled. They were great at accommodating my 2 year old as well. The prices are great and best part is that no waiting around for the check. When little one says I'm Done, all you need to do is gather your stuff and head to the cashier, tell em what you just enjoyed and they take care of you. Exactly what I want in a diner - lots of selection, great specials, and good food fast. My go-to diner on a rainy Saturday or Sunday morning. If it's crowded the waitresses can get a little frantic, but in my opinion, it only adds to the diner charm. A well-run family business with nice people and good food. The head chef is the best, organized, clean, and his food flavorful. I love the breakfast, but I went here on a Sunday morning once and was sitting outside with my daughter and her friend and the waitress was so rude always giving my daughter dirty looks like she was in her way... Real vintage diner with a cool history; impeccably well maintained. Typical diner fare but atypically delicious, high quality and ample portions. Its hard to decide whether I like the blueberry pancakes or the people who work here more (just kidding - its the people). Hands down the best diner I have ever been to. Growing up on the PA NJ border I had my fair share of diners to choose from. I always thought they tasted the same and most of the time stayed away unless for a simple breakfast. This changed when I moved to the north shore with my now husband who grew up in Lynn. His grandparents still go here weekly, and it's easy to understand why. First off, breakfast is amazing. Somehow the omelettes just taste better than anywhere else. Get the home fries seasoned! My only complaint is that I can never decide if I want breakfast or lunch, even if it seems too early for lunch. Everything I have had is good. Great burger club! Toppings are always fresh. Cheesesteak and buffalo chicken wraps are awesome. William the cook has a steel trap memory as nothing ordered is ever given to him written down, just called out. He's fast and always gets it right from my experience. We will hopefully be going here together as long as the rest of my husbands family has been.
