NOTE: This review is for the accompanying restaurant next door, because there isn't a separate listing here on Yelp. I arrived being the first customer after the restaurant opened on a mid-morning Saturday. I dreamt of an exceptional breakfast, but knew from experience to keep expectations in check. Sure enough, this was another restaurant fail--a subpar meal. I'd ordered a rice plate with grilled "pork chops" (quotes are intentional; you will understand why) and shrimp, plus a couple of fried eggs. The dish arrived promptly and was set up overall very similar to any other Vietnamese establishment. First of two immediately recognized failures: the modified fish sauce (a key component) was only halfway to tasting like fully, gloriously enjoyable "modified" fish sauce, as though it was made by a weak hand or someone who unfortunately gave up too early. The second discernable offense: chopped cilantro covered the plate liberally, but cilantro simply doesn't belong on this dish. That gave the impression, "what are they trying to mask?" instead of, "maybe they are being innovative..." A related gripe: I'd have preferred more of scallion oil. Unfortunately, however few of those good, necessary scallion bits were mixed up with the "meat." Yes, I now present the central fiasco of the meal: they served pork meat. Not CHOPS; not a single bone in sight. The menu clearly indicated pork chops. Curious, I inquired the waiter, who brushed off my concerns and declared that the meat was simply cut up pork chops. It wasn't; very easy to tell. And, the cooking method was not a true flame grill or broil but more akin to Vietnamese shaking beef style, while using marinaded pork. Sadly, it wasn't worthwhile to protest further. Service was non-existent after the food came, but that's actually normal for most Vietnamese eateries. We live in Grays Harbor and make a trip to the Capital Market every 6 months or so. Today was our trip to restock all of our goods. While trying to put everything we night in our truck I dropped two bottles of sauces we bought in their parking lot. Everything is so expensive these days it kind of crushed my heart dropping the goods we just bought. Of course, they were glass bottles I dropped‍ The man who was making the register saw that I had dropped some things and graciously came out to help me clean up all the broken glass. I really appreciated that!! As a kind gesture, he went back in and grabbed the things I had broken and gave them to me. He was so kind!! Thank you sir We also ate lunch in their restaurant connected to the store. I had the Pho and the broth was amazing!! They have huge portions for minimal costs. I highly recommend trying the Pho. Since the new owner took over we have been dining there several days a week. We love the delicious foods so much. They are as close as authentic as you can get and very reasonable price. You will never go wrong with the authentic meals. They have the best noodle duck soup I have ever tasted here. I would give it score with 5 stars. We also like the shrimp wrapped sugar cane comes with special noodle called 'bang boil and lot of vegetables and fish sauce for dipping. It's gourmet dish you can't find anywhere else in Olympia area. We are very grateful to have the very best restaurant so close here. No need to to too far away to enjoy the very best food. There is a sense of tranquility due to the aquarium's water motion. It's so peaceful and right next to it is an Asian market which you can just go through. Owners are nice, kind and courteous. As you sit down they brought me tea and water. I was not expecting tea, it tasted good too. The restaurant has a very good ambiance. I ordered Pho dac biet and banh mi thit nung and it was delicious. After a lot of recommendations and being told to go here I finally decided to give it a try. Everyone raves about the Pho so I probably should have gotten that but wanted to try the Pad Thai because I love Pad Thai. The place is nicely managed and there's enough seating spaced out and there was a lot of people there eating for lunch. While I was waiting for my order I went to the market side and got some ice cream. There wasn't a lot to see and choices to pick from and it was cramped and dark to me. I ended up leaving to go back and wait in the restaurant side. When I got my order I was so disappointed. There was barely no vegetables except some bean sprout and crushed peanuts and the taste was sort of bland. I couldn't finish it because the taste was off. I plan on going back to try the popular Pho and will update my review. *Update 9/4. The Pho was worth going back! Oh my goodness, the broth was rich and the vegetables were perfect. This is the second time I've ordered Fried chicken from this place. Each time the chicken has been ice cold. I thought the first time was a fluke, which led me to not go back for a long time. Today I ordered the chicken and had time to check the temp if the chicken. When I let the staff know they said you want your chicken to be hot? I said well yes, it's friend chicken? I went here yesterday and my pho had 2 pieces of meat in it. I have eaten here before and haven't had this happen. The broth was good, but I want more meat than this. My daughter had the chicken pho and that had a good amount of meat. The flavor was good too. They certainly do not skimp on the bean sprouts and basil which is nice. I like their fresh spring rolls and my husband likes the banh mi. The market area is nice. It's fairly well stocked. I'm giving 2.5 stars to the Asian food market. I cannot vouch for the adjoining restaurant as I've not eaten there. My wife and I have been generally disappointed when we've visited the market. It's a pretty small store and often does not carry the basic ingredients for which we are searching. The staff also cannot understand English well at all. On our latest visit, I asked for help to find a product and was escorted to the wrong product (only to come across the right product on a nearby shelf as I searched further). I do, however, appreciate the lights off when the sun is shining and keeping a make-shift cover over the open-air freezers. They are probably just cheap, but I'd prefer to think of them as energy efficient. We much prefer KN Halal Market in Lacey for our Asian food needs. However, if in a pinch for something right away, we would go to Capitol Market since we live in Olympia. read more

Good food, great service, clean, fast and cheap! Spring rolls, egg rolls, lemongrass chicken, combo fried rice and crunchy noodles were legit for Vietnamese, not sure about everything else on the menu but it all sounds good. The portions were also huge and we did family style which was easily shared and did have some leftovers which is always good! I do think they should have bigger tables and more comfortable seating, or even a remodel but it's a mom and pop restaurant and not some big chain. This is a hidden gem on the Westside. I recommend the fresh spring rolls (the peanut sauce is watery & not great but the rolls are good). The green papaya salad is also good. The Singapore noodles are also good (think Vietnamese noodles with Indian curry spice). You can call ahead & pick up or dine in. The food is fresh and hot, and the people there couldn't be nicer. We have been eating here at least twice a week since the new owners took over. And we must admit the pho and food were great. Until today, i took my family to eat lunch, we ordered pho and pork chops with egg, my son saw the lady in the kitchen dropped the fried egg on the FLOOR and instead of discarding the egg, she put it on top of the pork chop. We informed the server and he changed it, but imagine if my son did not see it.. We could have been eating DIRTY FOOD...We will not go back again. I've been eating here for over 10 years. The humbao are really good. The banana rolls are yummy. The Pho is good. The pad tai wasn't anything special. I love this tiny asian grocery store. I love it so much. Moving to Olympia from a much larger city was certainly culture shock, especially the small town effect on grocery shopping. I especially miss the neighborhood of tiny asian groceries I left behind. But the Capitol Market goes a long way to ease the pain. This little asian grocery shares space with a pho restaurant nestled in a little strip of shops, including a Mexican grocery. The cashier has always been super sweet to me. Although a language barrier stops me from asking lots of dumb questions, the basic questions I have always get answered. The low, low, low prices here put every other grocery store in town to shame, and I try to buy as much as I possibly can here. They carry locally-made tofu at prices less than half of the other stores in town. The produce selection is limited, but the stuff I've purchased has saved me so much money - just compare the 59 cents for fresh lemongrass at the Capitol Market to the price of lemongrass at TOP foods. Check out the prices for fresh herbs, and you'll choke on the clamshells of less fresh herbs that Safeway is selling you for $4. Dang. There's an exciting selection of canned vegetarian gluten-meats, ranging from mock abalone to mock duck. They carry my favorite brand of cheap delicious curry pastes, and rice noodles in nearly every shape and size. There's a complete selection of soy and fish sauces, including vegetarian fish sauces. There's a lot for the meat-eater, too, but I haven't tried any of it. Their dried, frozen, refrigerated and fresh food sections all compete with equally thrilling options, and I have to have a grocery list and a very single-minded focus when I shop here, because I'm always distracted by the possibilities and options. They don't carry everything, but manage to fit a lot onto their limited shelf space. I doubt I will ever have one-stop grocery shopping, since the selection is limited, but for rare items, basics, and bargains, there is no better place in Olympia. What a hidden gem. I was craving pho for lunch and decided to try this place out. Literally had only 30 minutes for my lunch, and was able to finish my medium sized pho because their service was so quick. I ordered the Pho Ga (Chicken Pho), and to my surprise the broth and noodles were really good, just wished they would have added more chicken. Will try out different menu items next time. I've had many disappointments in pho in the Olympia, Lacey, Tacoma area, and I was actually pleasantly pleased with my Pho Ga. The name of the restaurant is wrong on Yelp, it's actually called "Pho Capitol." There is a market right next door with basic Asian grocery necessities which is the Capitol Market. read more

Olympia isn't exactly a mecca for foodies, given its lack of diversity and, well, lack of good foods. This place does the job pretty decently for pho. The broth is pretty tasty (but mostly tastes like pepper, if anything), and there's a good amount of meat and noodles. The spring rolls were well enough, but way too huge. I'm no prude, but it felt a little obscene trying to get that girthy roll into my mouth. Yep, I said it. Ha! To be honest, I was a little more concerned with the fact that it kept falling apart as I ate it. I had to figure a way of eating it sideways and squeezing it together when I wasn't biting so the precious contents didn't just fall all over the table. The peanut sauce also left something to be desired. Too watery and not real... peanutty. The place loses a star because the service is nonexistent. Other than the young man who mostly works in the grocery part, the workers give off the impression that I'm intruding into their home and personal kitchen or something. They begrudgingly take your order and bring you the food. I also got the spring rolls a split second before I got my pho, which is kind of annoying. There was an awkward removing of the thick phallic object from my mouth and setting it down while trying to keep it intact, and rushing to put the bean sprouts and whatnot into the broth while it was still hot. One more thing.. the chairs don't fit the tables. Or you can't sit under the edge of the table easily. The legs of the table connect aesthetically(?) under the tables in an arch, getting in the way of your legs. I just imagine sitting with 3 other people being potentially awkward. Don't go to this place with really tall people or people with long legs. Summation: It's decent. It does the job. Don't count on service. :) read more
