I love this tiny asian grocery store. I love it so much. Moving to Olympia from a much larger city was certainly culture shock, especially the small town effect on grocery shopping. I especially miss the neighborhood of tiny asian groceries I left behind. But the Capitol Market goes a long way to ease the pain. This little asian grocery shares space with a pho restaurant nestled in a little strip of shops, including a Mexican grocery. The cashier has always been super sweet to me. Although a language barrier stops me from asking lots of dumb questions, the basic questions I have always get answered. The low, low, low prices here put every other grocery store in town to shame, and I try to buy as much as I possibly can here. They carry locally-made tofu at prices less than half of the other stores in town. The produce selection is limited, but the stuff I've purchased has saved me so much money - just compare the 59 cents for fresh lemongrass at the Capitol Market to the price of lemongrass at TOP foods. Check out the prices for fresh herbs, and you'll choke on the clamshells of less fresh herbs that Safeway is selling you for $4. Dang. There's an exciting selection of canned vegetarian gluten-meats, ranging from mock abalone to mock duck. They carry my favorite brand of cheap delicious curry pastes, and rice noodles in nearly every shape and size. There's a complete selection of soy and fish sauces, including vegetarian fish sauces. There's a lot for the meat-eater, too, but I haven't tried any of it. Their dried, frozen, refrigerated and fresh food sections all compete with equally thrilling options, and I have to have a grocery list and a very single-minded focus when I shop here, because I'm always distracted by the possibilities and options. They don't carry everything, but manage to fit a lot onto their limited shelf space. I doubt I will ever have one-stop grocery shopping, since the selection is limited, but for rare items, basics, and bargains, there is no better place in Olympia. These days, the Cho Capitol Market is my favorite grocery source. Thanks for many delicious dinners! read more

Olympia isn't exactly a mecca for foodies, given its lack of diversity and, well, lack of good foods. This place does the job pretty decently for pho. The broth is pretty tasty (but mostly tastes like pepper, if anything), and there's a good amount of meat and noodles. The spring rolls were well enough, but way too huge. I'm no prude, but it felt a little obscene trying to get that girthy roll into my mouth. Yep, I said it. Ha! To be honest, I was a little more concerned with the fact that it kept falling apart as I ate it. I had to figure a way of eating it sideways and squeezing it together when I wasn't biting so the precious contents didn't just fall all over the table. The peanut sauce also left something to be desired. Too watery and not real... peanutty. The place loses a star because the service is nonexistent. Other than the young man who mostly works in the grocery part, the workers give off the impression that I'm intruding into their home and personal kitchen or something. They begrudgingly take your order and bring you the food. I also got the spring rolls a split second before I got my pho, which is kind of annoying. There was an awkward removing of the thick phallic object from my mouth and setting it down while trying to keep it intact, and rushing to put the bean sprouts and whatnot into the broth while it was still hot. One more thing.. the chairs don't fit the tables. Or you can't sit under the edge of the table easily. The legs of the table connect aesthetically(?) under the tables in an arch, getting in the way of your legs. I just imagine sitting with 3 other people being potentially awkward. Don't go to this place with really tall people or people with long legs. Summation: It's decent. It does the job. Don't count on service. :) read more

I used to eat here almost daily. Good, cheap deals on food and a convenient Asian market next door. They have everything you need to cook up a curry and your favorite snacks. Check out the coconut ice cream, just $1! Docking two stars because of a disturbing pattern of accidentally getting pieces of chicken or other mystery meat in my tofu dishes. I am always clear with my simple orders, and the first two times I let them know and they gave me a free replacement, but for this to keep happening is a real bummer. Shame, I was a regular, and now I avoid the restaurant like the plague. read more

The Bún bò Hue is pretty lame, the bánh mì are pretty skimpy, etc. It's nice to stop by the deli in terms of convenience, etc., but the food isn't really that great. The cha lua in the market is very good, but I have to take away a star (and some of my willingness to go) for having found a _staple_ inside a pastry I picked up here today. Their cleanliness was never great, but I'm just not prepared for getting bits of metal in a bite of coconut. A truly teeth-scraping blow to my opinion of them. read more

This little Asian market / pho shop is my favorite place in Olympia. It has a decent selection of food ( almost everything I need except for the elusive sweet bean paste.) In the deli half of the shop is small and quaint, if a little run down. But what do you expect from a teeny pho place? Their Hum bao is pretty good and the pho is equal the what I have had elsewhere. And very reasonably priced. The staff are all very sweet and the owners cute little daughter will walk up and talk to you. Not a shy girl that one. If you need ingredients for a dish that you can't find in safeway or just need some pho, Capitol market is the place to stop! read more

Love Love Love this little Asian Market. I looked them up online and then went and did my shopping. I was in town visiting family and wanted to make some bangin good food. This place may not be the largest market in the area but it has everything you need. Fresh Fresh Produce and Fresh Banh Mi French bread rolls. I've been coming here for years. Reliable friendly service with consistent grinds. All their dishes hit the mark but I'd be hesitant to say they go above and beyond. It is kept basic and duly, it does not disappoint. It is my Westside Oly standby for inexpensive grinds during difficult moments of starving indecision. Pho broth is decent and better than many other places in Olympia/Lacey. They have all the normal sides except for sambal oelek/chili. The stuff that is in 99% of pho places. They have the fried chili oil and sciracha but those overpower the broth flavor. Pet peeves: the tables are not tall enough to eat properly! My body is twisted to the side while eating. Akwaaaard. The water!? Funky chlorine/lemon taste, had to get a soda. Lunch time and no customers so they need to fix a few things. $9.24 for small beef pho. read more

Here's the things: the place is just a little bit precious. The food isn't the most wonderful, incredible, fresh thai food around by any means, but the place is a totally charming and family run business and everything is cheap and good. I really like the vermicelli rice bowls, and I've been eating the tofu spring rolls here for years - seriously, I could probably eat these spring rolls every day for the rest of my life and feel very happy. The Pho is pretty good too. Mostly, this place keeps me coming back because the service is casual, low key, and the people who own it are totally genuine and sweet.. My favorite Asian market by far. Even though now I live near the Seattle area this market beats the Asian markets around where I live by a long shot. The owners own both the market and the restaurant. Which both of them are always constantly working. They put their pride and joy into this place and it shows. The authenticity in the products the owners provide is just outstanding. Not only that but their prices beat the other markets In the area as well. They always have a smile on their face and constantly ask about the things we talked about last time my wife and I came in. This shows me they care which draws me back every time. I recommend this place because of the wide variety of Vietnamese products they offer for your Vietnamese/Asian cuisine. Nothing fancy here, just quick, really good food. We've eaten here a couple of times and have found it to be consistently good. Nice, fresh spring rolls, banh mi is delicious, toasted or not. I've been enjoying the different pho choices but yesterday tried the tofu curry and was very pleased by the perfectly cooked vegetables, lots of tofu and creamy sauce. With Pork;(the edges of some strange, odd thin cut of pork, akin to skirt steak,) romaine lettuce I counted 18 pieces, where once there were bits of Thai. Basil n leaves of delicate corriander. Thin translucent rice noodle where once hefty vermicelli ensconced with delicious spices n gravy, n now thin pasty empty of taste, noodles are. And now all is swathed in grease, where once there was sauce, coming from the marinade for the pork. Oh, and this chief saw fit to throw in the center of a sliver of a white onion, barely cooked, and a few strings of overdone carrot. The saving grace (for something I could cook @ under a $1.00)4 bits of fried spring roll. W H A T IS THIS?? Too bad they've learned Olympia capitalism at its best.... Serve horrible food, to people who won't know the difference. Give them Smaller sizes, cut the spices, give them bland food, give em the cheap stuff. Surely the People in Olympia, will never say a word. They'll pay whatever we ask. We'll Asian Deli you are stuck between a Wendy's, MickeyD Arby, n Pizza Hut. Came here yesterday for a quick lunch. First time here so was not sure what the procedure was. Didn't get greeted... We sat ourselves at a table for 4. I asked for a menu and the girl pointed to the wall and said that was the menu... A mom and young son came in and she ordered at the counter and I overheard the girl ask for here or to go so I got up and went to the counter to order. My father in law and I ordered a medium pho dac biet ($7) and a bun bo hue ($8) for my husband egg rolls (3.50). The egg rolls were pretty good but small... But I guess that's why you get 5 little ones instead of two big ones. I only wished they served it with lettuce and maybe some mints with more sauce than the tiny bowl we got. The pho broth was delicious but there wasn't enough food in our bowl. I mean it was more like a small. It did have everything but just not enough so if you want a regular size bowl that you get somewhere else I suggest getting the large because he medium left us hungry still. My husband's bun bo hue was a disappointment. His broth tasted like water with a hint of beef flavor. There was barely any meat in it. There were a couple of pate slices and no pork hock or pork blood which is a staple in this dish. That was the whole point of my husband ordering. We wouldn't go out of our way to come back here but if we're close by and want a quick lunch we would stop by. read more

This is a little market that has the basic nuts and bolts of asian foods that you can't get at the store. Hailing from San Diego, there are asian food stores everywhere, I am used to large smelly asian stores, and this one smelled yummy. Not bad for Olympia. I was quiet surprised by this place. I just moved to Olympia today and this was my first try and local and close. It's an old outdated strip mall so it does not look inviting from the outside. But, like so many of the great little hole in walls the food is great. Inside its very clean, friendly and comfortable. The food was good and prices were right. The Asian market has new owners and they are great! Their English is good enough and they are so helpful. My husband sends me with the list and most of the time I have no idea what I'm looking for....they always figure it out for me. The displays are being improved and the refrigeration has been improved. It is geared more towards Thai and Vietnamese. The one in Lacey on Martin way is more Korean. The restaurant is good too. We love going here to shop and eat! read more

We haven't visited the Deli side yet but I've been to the market side twice and each time has been pleasant! It's a small grocery store but there is lots of selection and the staff is very friendly! My Viet Mom is here visiting and found the staff to be extremely kind and genuinely happy to help you! We went to a store in Lacey and witnessed their staff talking smack in Viet while they were helping a Korean customer....so uncool! My Mom told me to ALWAYS go to Capitol now if I need any Asian Groceries! read more
