The Capitola center was chaotic, and the children seemed lost and bored. The teachers were constantly correcting the children, but not really being with them. I didn't hear any laughter the entire time I was there, not from the kids or the teachers. They claim to be playbased, but I didn't see any actual play happening here. The Santa Cruz site was better, in that it had smaller group sizes, teachers that actually got down on the children's' level and seemed to genuinely enjoy being with children. It still didn't seem very play based and outside time appears to be limited. I was most put off by some of the interactions I observed between the director and the kids-it was very pushy and too much talking and not listening or giving the child a chance to respond. Something was off there and I just can't put a finger on it. Pros are the tuition is good, and they serve lunch.
