    Sm Capo Cheesesteak

I'd walked past Capo hundreds of times but never stopped in until yesterday, when I was in Annapolis again for lunch. Capo is a small deli - just a few tables in front of the counter where you order and a small counter to the side where you can stand and eat your sandwich. Most people appeared to get their orders to go, so even small, it probably has enough seating for you to sit and enjoy your meal. Since it was my first visit, I asked the staff member assisting me about the most popular sandwiches from their menu. From that list, I ordered their Capo cheesesteak, which was delicious - with an Italian twist to the Philly classic. But their menu is very large - cold subs, hot subs, make your own subs, fries, other Italian dishes (meatballs, lasagna, ziti, etc.), sides, and desserts - so there's something for everyone. I also appreciated that they offer a small and a large size of all their sandwiches - the 6 inch small was plenty for me, still a generous portion! Heads up - the sandwiches are the freshest of the fresh - made and sliced to order. So don't expect your sandwich to be as quick as Subway or something. It'll take a few minutes, but it's worth it! A great spot for a quick, casual meal in the heart of the Main Street!

Sandwiches were good. The roll was super fresh. The Italian had nicely thin sliced meats.

One thing, I'd prefer a little less onions and more meat. My boyfriend got the hot pastrami and inhaled it- five stars for that. We also both got a fancy milkshake, but because it was to go, it was deconstructed so the baked goods wouldn't fall off. I had the black and white cookie milkshake. To be honest the shakes are nothing special though they are good! but that cookie was unreal. It was massive, soft, and just perfect. Same comment for the strawberry milkshake- the shake was fine but the donut was amazing! It wasn't greasy at all and so satisfying. We'll definitely return, but would probably choose to get a sandwich and some baked goods next time (they all looked gorgeous!)

But it's another to actually go in and grab lunch in there. The spirit of Annapolis is self contained in this compact little diner. Steps away from the USNA, Chick & Ruth's is a charming little spot that captures the classic diner feel with the soul of a local business that stands ten toes down for the local sports team just a few steps away. The crab cakes are great, the burgers are solid, and the deli Sammys aren't half bad either. If you're feeling bold, I recommend doing the Colossal Challenge. If you come during breakfast and it's before 8am on the weekday or before 9:30am before the weekends prepared to drop everything you're doing and join the friendly staff to say the pledge of allegiance! Chick & Ruth's is peak local business, it's a great spot for any Navy game (or visiting their loved ones attending USNA), and offers comfort diner food. This is one place in Annapolis everyone outta visit.

Lot's of mayo with very little celery. It was also lacking flavor. I wouldn't order that again. I was satisfied with the lobster grilled cheese on texas toast. Very good with the right amount of lobster. This was all ordered online and pre-paid. Parking could be a challenge. Luckily we came on a Sunday so it was less of a crowd. Found a spot to quickly pull behind just to pick up the food. Annapolis is a busy area. Especially on a Friday or Saturday. Just make sure if you order to go. That you pre-check your order. They were missing my chips but corrected the order immediately. So 3.5 for this visit and definitely would return for my lobster grilled cheese or the Connecticut Lobster Roll.

In addition to the lobster rolls there's several sides available. Complementary self-serve water is available. I like that the restaurant staff carefully prepares your order, not just slapping things together, even though that takes a bit of time. I ordered the Classical Lobster Roll. It was perfection and so delish. Served in a tasty lightly toasted and buttered bun. The hefty lobster serving comes with a dash of mayo. I'll be back again and again for Mason's lobster rolls. Love 'em!

So, when we saw this restaurant in Annapolis, we knew we had to give it a try. We were fortunate to find parking nearby, which is always a bonus in downtown Annapolis! When we walked into the restaurant, the gentleman at the counter greeted us promptly. We had not done any research about the layout prior, so we were surprised to see it was counter service, and not a sit down restaurant. However, that was fine. The restaurant was very clean and welcoming. My husband ordered The Loco moco and he said it was very good. The egg was prepared perfectly, and it was a decent portion. He probably could've eaten a larger portion, however :-) I ordered a poke bowl with tuna and crab salad. I topped it with sunflower seeds, edamame, and an avocado lime sauce. It was delicious! The flavors melted very well together and the portion was just right. However, next time I think I will get the larger size so I have some to take home! We will definitely be back again because the menu has a lot of different stuff on it that we would like to try. If you're looking for a different kind of restaurant with something unique for this area, you should definitely check it out. It was also very affordable.

So we walk in Sammy's and my husband and I are impressed by the pickles and hot sauce varieties. We didn't plan to order food, yet as a foodie I love specialty shops and always patronize them. This one was no different, although I regret doing so. At first the woman (who I imagine is the owner) seemed personable she asked all the customers to let her know if they needed help and she was smiling and all, but for whatever reason that changed after we got to the register to pay. She then became very condescending, rude and uptight. She asked a multitude of questions like for instance she asked what brings us to Annapolis. I told her we always visit and she says well you picked a busy day to come, like I made a poor choice in visiting or something, like we shouldn't be there. I thought to myself, um, did you not here me, I always come to the area, therefore I know it's busy, ALL THE TIME..it's been that way since forever in Annapolis. Then she just kept going on about our purchase saying we made good choices..like she literally said "oh you made good choices..you made good choices. Her tone sounded to me as if she was surprised that our pallet was sophisticated enough to get truffle chips and hot sauce and garlic dill pickles; like give me a break. She then asks my husband if he likes cheese. He says no but my wife does, she is the cheese expert. She didn't say another word, she did not crack a smile nor engage me in any way after he said that. As a store owner that would have been the perfect opportunity to sell me on cheese or whatever it was that you thought you needed to ask him that for. Finally even after all this, I asked her if she had a tip jar because I was going to tip my change (approximately $3.xx). She said no, I don't take tips, I just want you to go home and enjoy your purchase-as if she was too good or prideful to take MY money and wanted us to leave the store. I guess black families who love on each other and their children, who travel an hr away from home to visit downtown Annapolis are foreign to her and/or rub her the wrong way. And wouldn't you know as I am leaving I saw a tip bucket on the counter. Go figure. My husband and I discussed our visit and he informed me that while I was off doing another final lap of the store she had asked him if he was hungry and he said no...so maybe that's why she was mad-that we didn't get her food. He said she had a look as if to say then what are you doing here. Terrible. And I know from reading this it seems like she asked basic questions, but it is one of those you had to be there conversations; her tone, lack of eye contact and all made for a very uncomfortable experience. One thing is for certain, I will never patronize this store again and for anyone reading this and the other reviews, believe the ones that say these people are mean and rude because they certainly are.
