Today we had dinner for the first time at Capri Lasagneria and the food was amazing! I don't often write reviews, but wanted to share our overall experience. We ordered the peach arugula salad which was delicious and refreshing, mushroom soup, mushroom ravioli made just right, yummy spaghetti bolognese, and a beer. We had some troubles with our salad and asked to have it removed from our check, but was offered our entire meal for free, plus free dessert. Definitely, not what we had expected, but super grateful for the warm gesture. The waiter and I believe the owner, were very kind and accommodating from beginning to end. The restaurant also didn't give utensils and put salad container on top of hot food so it was all slimy by the time it got to us. Small place, but very welcoming. We had 5 adults and two very small children (1 four months old) They set up a table, got us seated quickly. We were all very hungry and the dishes we ordered along with the appetizers and bread did the trick in filling us up! The lasagna- Zucchine e Mais absolutely delicious. The flavors were so good. Classic Bolognese was also perfectly done with the sauce and cheese not overpowering. Three build your own pasta were amazing and the portions were perfect! What a gem! Came here tonight to celebrate my friend's birthday. She adores pasta and the menu looked really fun. This place is fantastic! The menu has great salads, wonderful lasagna choices, build your own pasta dish and then the specials. We split a Cesar salad. She then had one of the lasagna dishes and I had a pasta special which was pear pasta done in an Alfredo sauce with walnuts. Absolutely delicious!! The portions are very generous so we both have lunch for tomorrow. The restaurant also has a very nice wine and alcohol list but I was driving and she does not drink. Service: 10 stars! Cute little lasagna spot in Burlingame. With so many good Italian choices it's hard to try something new but my husband, his brother and his gf and I said yolo. We're so glad we did. We ordered the calamari and fried gnocchi to start. The gnocchi was like crack and so addicting. We then each ordered different lasagnas and all shared. All of them were so good it was hard to pick a favorite but I think the classic was the winner in the end. We finished dessert with tiramisu which was also delish. We will for sure be back. *Parking: metered street parking *Experience: We had a party of 4 and arrived around 6:30pm on a Saturday. We added our name on the waitlist once we exited the freeway and probably waited about 20mins for a table indoors. We could've been seated earlier but it was for outdoors. They had heat lamps but we are not too fond of the cold. The ambiance cute and intimate. There's bar seating for parties of 2. Service was super friendly and dishes came out at a reasonable pace. *Food: We were served with complimentary focaccia bread and it was unfortunate that it came out cold and nothing special. Then came our appetizer - the Insalata Di Rucola and was a bit disappointed that there were no peaches as it was seasonal and they replaced it with pomegranates without informing us first. I wish we were notified upfront as we may have selected a different appetizer if that was the case. The salad was also overly dressed for our taste so we were not a fan. The main course was definitely the highlight where we ordered 3 different lasagna - bolognese, Italian sausage, and zucchine e mais. We also built our own fettuccine Alfredo with chicken and mushrooms. You can't go wrong with any of them. My top two favorites were the fettuccine alfredo and the Italian sausage lasagna. The fettuccine was al dente and the Alfredo was creamy and rich. The Italian sausage lasagna had a little spicy kick which added more flavor to the palette. 2 starts because this is a shady establishment. The literal first thing our waiter said to us was "we are having a tap water issue, it may be contaminated, so we only have still or sparkling water. We only found out about this 30 minutes ago". Given it seemed we had no choice, we got still water. However then we noticed other tables around us were still drinking tap water... if it's possibly contaminated, as an establishment wouldn't you want to keep your patrons safe? Everyone else should have also not had tap water then. Even some people who came after us were served tapped water. Clearly we knew they were lying through their teeth. Later after our meal was done, we asked the waiter if the water issue was fixed because other tables were drinking tap water, and he turned to his other colleague (another waiter) and had to discuss it, probably because they forgot they told us a big fat lie and were caught. My friend had said her in laws live right across the street from the restaurant and she asked if they had any water issues and they said no. So the waiter's response to us was "we're not sure yet". If you aren't giving your patrons a choice for water, you should not be charging them for it. We were charged for a bottle of still. He brought us another one after we asked about the tap water issue, and this one was free of charge only because he got caught. If you're going to lie about something, make sure it is at least consistent. It's really shady that a newer establishment would do this to make more money. If your water was truly contaminated, you probably should not even keep the restaurant open the rest of the night. Now let's go on to the food. Gnocchi fritto was good. The pesto lasagna was the best out of all the lasagnas we tried. The peach salad was also delicious. The tiramisu was dry like others said but I highly enjoyed the mousse. We are foodies and want to give an honest review. 1.) Portions - this was disappointing. Lasagna portions for the price were small. Additionally, "splitting a salad" which two can often do in good restaurants, only left us with a very small handful each of lettuce. 2.) Flavor - all dishes we tried twice were good--actually bordered really good, but again, value was just not there for what we paid for two without alcohol. 3.) Service - Ok. tl;dr i think i've found my new favorite restaurant in Burlingame! my husband and i love eating in downtown Burlingame, but have been stuck in a vicious cycle of going to the same places in the area... but we were craving Italian on a Sunday night, and didn't know where to go! not sure if anyone agrees but i had yet to find an Italian restaurant that i LOVED... until now!! while searching through Yelp, i was intrigued that there was a new "lasagneria", as i'd never heard of an Italian restaurant that specializes in lasagna! so we joined the Yelp waitlist (a huge plus in my book!) and drove right over. there is a decently sized parking lot just behind the restaurant but if you have ever gone to Downtown Burlingame, you'll know that parking can get a little tricky sometimes. walked in, and immediately was taken with the decor - so cute! they play a video loop of Italy scenery and the music selection set the mood just right as well. all of the tables have cute little lamps that make the restaurant feel romantic yet casual! if you're in for a feast, go ahead and order your own lasagna! but for me and my husband, we wanted to try more, so we opted to share the lasagna bolognese, that way we could order even more to try! for appetizers, we also got the peach arugula salad and the fried gnocchi, which were both really good! my favorite of the two was the fried gnocchi, because it came with a delicious truffle cream sauce! needless to say, for a place that specializes in lasagna, it goes without saying that the lasagna was GREAT, and my mouth is watering right now just thinking about it again. BUT LEAVE ROOM FOR DESSERT because the unsung hero of the night was DESSERT! originally i had wanted to order a tiramisu, but once i heard there was sea salt ice cream, i was sold. it was the perfect way to end the meal. i will definitely come back again VERY SOON to try out more of their menu, like their build-your-own pasta. but for my first time, i wanted to see what their lasagna is all about, and try their other appetizers be a little more adventurous since my second choices, meatballs and caprese, are classic staples. I will say if you're seated at a 2 top you can hear the people next to you and it's a little awkward. The service was okay. They did give us a complimentary dessert, tiramisu, which was better than the entrees. I give it a 4/5. Our waitress just seemed like she was a little insincere when talking to us. The male waiter seemed a little more genuine. The focaccia bread they give you was too dense and dry for my liking. The zucchini/lasagna was 2/5 stars. The flavors just weren't there. Not enough seasoning or kick to it. The pollo a la vodka lasagna was better 3/5 stars. However, again it just tasted bland. I'm not a picky person.
