Mykonos Meze is a wonderful, family restaurant with fantastic food in Burlingame downtown. We were looking for a place for dinner, heard rowdily happy noises from what looks like a parking lot, and found a Greek restaurant with large family groups inside and tables outside under an extension with floral decor. The place is quite pretty. We opted for a small table outside , which is much quieter. Our waiter was a bit stiff around the collar. I suspect he is an old timer, and clearly, we are not regulars. Regardless, the food is great, and the prices are reasonable. The Food: Zucchini Cake, $15 - 4.5 Stars Menu: crispy zucchini cakes with cucumber & mint-yogurt dressing These cakes are ball shaped, deep fried, and made a healthy veggie taste naughty type of good. Very yummy. Lol Tzatziki, $9 - 5 Stars Refreshing and delicious, the tzatziki is an excellent complement to the meal. Octopus, $19 - 5 Stars I really need to stop eating octopus, but when I am in a Greek or Spanish restaurant, I am weak. Grilled octopus legs are soooo good. Their version is grilled just right, not too much char, plus they smartly removed the hardened tips (common) before serving. See photo. Lamb Shank, $34 - 5 Stars Menu: aromatic braised lamb shank with orzo & myzithra cheese The lamb meat is tender and falls off the bone. It is cooked just right. Mykonos Souvlaki, $31 - 5 Stars Menu: herbs marinated tenderloin, shallot & rosemary skewers I enjoy a tasty protein and produce meal, and this dish is perfection with tender pieces of tenderloin over a pile of veggies. Came by for dinner the other night and it was a decent experience. Made a reservation for dinner and we were offered a choice of the sidewalk or side lot outdoor dining with blankets and a heater. There seemed to be quite a few parties indoors, which feels more like a club. Service was more leisurely than on previous visits due to the heavy amount of guests dining on a weeknight. Started off with the zucchini cakes and they were quite tasty. They were super flavorful and had a tasty dipping sauce that complemented this dish. The grilled octopus was gigantic and cooked to perfection, while not being rubbery. The lamb riblets were tasty as they were tender and served over a bed of arugula. The brussel sprouts were tasty, albeit a touch on the smaller side. Opted to share the chilean sea bass as the main course and it was gigantic. The sea bass was very fatty and buttery. I loved how this dish was served with some super soft potatoes and creamy spinach. The skin on the sea bass was also quite satisfying. The Galaktoboureko recommended by our waitress was merely so so. Food was amazing and service was amazing! Fried cheese: 4/5 A bit too salty for me but if you combine it with the pita bread, it makes a great combo. The grilled texture with the soft cheese interior was definitely delicious though. Octopus: 5/5 It was fresh, soft, and the sauce and hazelnuts really compliment the octopus flavors. Seabass: 5/5 I highly recommend trying this if you like fish. It comes in a large filet with potatoes and spinach on the bottom. The filet itself was sweet, soft, and melts in your mouth. Showed up without a reservation on a Tuesday night and it was packed! They still managed to seat our party of 4 outside with heat lamps and we were plenty warm. We came without a reservation on a Wednesday night and it was super packed. The area outside that is closest to the indoor area is still quite warm though with the heat lamps. Our favorites were the keftedes (meatballs) and spread platter. The meatballs have lamb in them but you don't taste it at all. The spread platter was very fun to try a 7 different dips/spreads. Our favorite spreads were the karoto (carrot spread) and tirokafteri (a bit of spicier red bell pepper spread.) Honestly, all the spreads were very good so I would say give any of them a try. "MEZE" in Greek means small plates, similar to the Spanish "TAPAS." This place truly is fantastic. As an honorary Greek for most of my life, this restaurant warms my heart. The name is apropos for this Greek joint, as the lighting and large bar make it feel like a Mykonos beachside club. This is not a bad thing, as it straddles the "good for family dinner" and "good for date night drinks" surprisingly well. The waitstaff are warm and friendly, if not sometimes a bit rushed to clear the table -- they twice tried to take plates we were still eating from, but from more of an "attentive-service" place. We opted to share several plates for a group of four, and this seems to be the right call. The dip platter is a MUST, with several variations that I had never tried before. Other standouts include the beef kebab and fried zucchini balls. The real winner was definitely dessert. I usually find desserts play second fiddle to the main courses of most restaurants, but this couldn't be further from the truth for Mykonos. The baklava was solid (the regular comes with a scoop of ice cream, in case you're like us and are not sold on the baklava-ice-cream alternative), but the BANANA PUDDING stole the show, from the fruity bottom all the way to the pistachio-encrusted top. I asked the server what he would recommend for a sweet drink. He responded by saying a."Slay" might be appealing to me. He also said that he could further sweeten the drink if I wanted, but I opted not to. It was a pretty drink. It wasn't super sweet, but he had advised me it wasn't going to be. We had a small Meze platter. This was not on the menu, but the server mentioned it and I'm glad we partook in it. I was really impressed with this. Such an assortment of dipping sauces for the pita bread. I noticed that they have Chilean Seabass on the menu. You don't often find this on any menus. The first time I experienced this was in New York City about 26 years ago. Back then I was so impressed with the taste. It didn't taste like fish at all. For a friday night this place was busy and absolutely packed! We came in for a birthday dinner for my mom and arrived at 5:30. We did wait about 30-40 minutes for our food to come while other tables had their food before us althoughr we ordered first. Our server was kind enough to comp one of our meals for the delay in service. By the time we left the place was packed with large groups of people outside waiting for a table. The place is quite large offering both indoor and outdoor seating. It is a nice blend between modern and greek theming with decor and the place itself is really cute. I ordered the oxtail pasta and calamari. The calamari was crispy and super light to eat. The oxtail pasta was good but felt like it was missing a little more flavor. We ordered the octopus as our starter, but because it was taking so long, our waiter brought out a plate of cheese with olives. That was so thoughtful! We love to come here for celebrations with my in-laws. Our last visit was for my husband's 30th birthday. Though it seems this is not unusual - there were like 6-8 birthday celebrations with free desserts and song from the restaurant. It is a bit pricer but lots of fun. Very dark lighting inside with many blue and yellowed hewed lights. Very tight crowded tables - it seems they have added more recently. Perhaps even make a little more room to walk without putting yourself or your clothes over other peoples tables when coming in and out. Outside is more open air, bright, and roomier with the tables. The service is great - manager / owner floats around checking in and making sure everything is running smoothly. The waiter we had had a heavy accent, was not very loud so he had to repeat things a bit, and was less familiar with the running of the restaurant than some of our others have been, but he was still nice and helpful getting our items out in a reasonable amount of time. The Saghanaki cheese appetizer was fiery in a dramatic, cinematic and awesome literal flame sort of way and the Gigantes beans rocked too. My Risotto was lovely for my main course also but my experience at Mykonos Meze was still frustratingly imperfect. I was here for a business lunch where I was the least senior attendee so I didn't want to make a big deal but an overzealous busboy took my appetizer plate when I was still using it and then later he also took my leftover Risotto after I'd asked for a to-go box. They had a large group in for a private event in the patio, but the service was not lacking, the vibes were immaculate. Friend recommended Mykonos given the proximity to Salt & Straw. I arrived early and got us a table outside as my friend usually brings her dog. Since she didn't bring her dog, we requested to sit in the covered outdoor area. We were able to move immediately without any issues. Once we were seated, we didn't wait too long to have our order taken and for the food to arrive. 5 stars to the staff for being so friendly and accommodating. To start, we shared the beet salad and the octopus. Octopus was cooked perfectly tender. The beets went well with the oranges, watermelon radish, and arugula (both color and the balance or sweet/tart). I had the baked prawns and my friend had the moussaka. The prawns were tasty and the sauce was perfect for dipping the pita bread provided. Though I didn't try the moussaka, my friend had a generous portion that she took home for leftovers. She also had a glass of wine. My portion of the bill was ~$35 (includes tax/tip), which was reasonable for the prawns and sharing 2 apps. For an early birthday celebration, my Dad took me out to Mykonos Meze. We were hanging on the peninsula and wanted to eat somewhere dog-friendly. So glad we came as everything was delicious and the service was attentive! My Dad and I arrived in the mid-afternoon on a weekday. We were one of the only customers dining outside which was nice. Their outdoor space is quite large, spacious, and covered. I love the colors and the Mediterranean decor. Inside looked super vibey and cool! Our waiter was phenomenal. He brought water out for my pup and was so attentive. Appreciate all of the worker's kindness and checking in with us. Dad and I shared the Octopus which was chewy, well-cooked, and mild. I had the Boutakia Kotopoulo for my meal. It was a big portion of grilled chicken, sauce, and pilaf. The chicken was well-seasoned and so tender. The yogurt sauce added a creaminess and the pilaf was savory. Each bite was great and I took half of it home! I enjoy Greek food but rarely eat it. Really cute restaurant in downtown Burlingame, which def. had the Mykonos party vibes we remember so well from our honeymoon. Our service started off very good, but did run into some hiccups in getting our bill (took awhile) and having a dish forgotten (at which arrived very late). The menu was huge with lots of variety in tapas, entrees, etc. with a large cocktail/beer/wine selection as well. Let's Dig In: (1) House Comp. Pita Bread - literally the BEST thing here, it was super fresh, warm, and pillow-y + lightly seasoned + simple olive oil dip. (2) Octopus - meh, it was cooked fair but didn't care for the weird puree thing at the bottom that just felt clunky/cold/heavy overall. (3) Steak - also meh, steak was a bit overcooked to what we requested, accompanied by potatoes that were tasty, and veggies that were soggy and kind of sad. Overall the platter looked like a mashup of random things thrown together. (4) Moussaka - had such high hopes but also meh, flavor was light but also very dry and not enough sauce. Totally missed that this was also vegetarian which then had it also lacking flavor. (5) Mykonos Flat bread - not pictured since this was the forgotten item that came at the end of the meal, but still sadly couldn't save it. This was odd for me, tasted almost like a very dry 'Totino's pizza' that had an meh sweet glaze. Would not order again. Cocktail: I had a seasonal fig drink that was not boozy enough and just way too sweet. Flavor was unique given the fig, but not something I'd order again. (Mind you I love fig & def had a great fig cocktail in Healdsburg and other places so it's totally possible to do it right. Although not here.) Service was attentive and friendly, food was incredibly fresh, and the ambiance was lovely as the restaurant was well-decorated just in time for the holidays. My boyfriend and I ordered the spread sample platter, the warm complimentary pita was a really nice touch. The keftedes was juicy and packed with flavor. The Mykonos Souvlaki was super tender and full of flavor as well, the meat was falling off the skewer! We had a team dinner and really enjoyed the venue and the food and drinks . We were a party of 12 and ordered a bunch of appetizers - the fried calamari was ok but not amazing , the cauliflower was not great (I would skip next time ), the spinach flatbread was very good . For the main course I ordered the pastitio which was very similar to a lasagna - large and rich dish which was very tasty . Greek lunch tasted better when shared with a very long-standing friend (former colleague). This was my 4th visit at Mykonos & my friend's first time. The restaurant was busy on a Friday lunch. My reservation was at 12:30 pm. The hostess gave us the outdoor table. We thought the flowers were real. As always the decor & lights are nice. For drinks I ordered the red Sangiovese & my friend had the Spicy Cadillac Margarita. The Sangiovese was delicious. We shared our orders. For starters we had the Zucchini Cake & Keftedes. We enjoyed the small Meze platter for its creamy texture and savory flavor while using it as spreads. For the main course we had the Fisherman's Pasta. The food was fresh, flavorful, and simple. We did not have desserts as we were full. My friend enjoyed the food. The entire staff was nice. I am returning with other friends too during the holiday. read more
