No clash in taste going from eating to drinking. Appetizers: Calamari: Not a huge fan of calamari personally but it was okay. Crispy and chewy squid inside as expected. Greek fries: Typical fries. Crispy and garnished with 2 sauces. One has a mild spice. Nothing super special but it was good as a choice of "sides" from the menu that turned into an appetizer. Had some leftover for my entree that paired well with it actually. Zucchini cakes: crispy shell on the outside but a mushy, hashbrown-like inside of a flavorful mix of vegetables. Came by for dinner the other night and it was a decent experience. Made a reservation for dinner and we were offered a choice of the sidewalk or side lot outdoor dining with blankets and a heater. There seemed to be quite a few parties indoors, which feels more like a club. Service was more leisurely than on previous visits due to the heavy amount of guests dining on a weeknight. Started off with the zucchini cakes and they were quite tasty. They were super flavorful and had a tasty dipping sauce that complemented this dish. The grilled octopus was gigantic and cooked to perfection, while not being rubbery. The lamb riblets were tasty as they were tender and served over a bed of arugula. The brussel sprouts were tasty, albeit a touch on the smaller side. Opted to share the chilean sea bass as the main course and it was gigantic. The sea bass was very fatty and buttery. I loved how this dish was served with some super soft potatoes and creamy spinach. The skin on the sea bass was also quite satisfying. The Galaktoboureko recommended by our waitress was merely so so. We were looking for a place for dinner, heard rowdily happy noises from what looks like a parking lot, and found a Greek restaurant with large family groups inside and tables outside under an extension with floral decor. The place is quite pretty. We opted for a small table outside , which is much quieter. Our waiter was a bit stiff around the collar. I suspect he is an old timer, and clearly, we are not regulars. Regardless, the food is great, and the prices are reasonable. The Food: Zucchini Cake, $15 - 4.5 Stars Menu: crispy zucchini cakes with cucumber & mint-yogurt dressing These cakes are ball shaped, deep fried, and made a healthy veggie taste naughty type of good. Very yummy. Lol Tzatziki, $9 - 5 Stars Refreshing and delicious, the tzatziki is an excellent complement to the meal. Octopus, $19 - 5 Stars I really need to stop eating octopus, but when I am in a Greek or Spanish restaurant, I am weak. Grilled octopus legs are soooo good. I've had this place bookmarked for a while as a connoisseur of Mediterranean mezze plates. Do yourself a favor and try to make a reservation OR get lucky and they'll have a seat for you at the bar. This place can get crowded and loud - brings me back to my college days. However, thank god the food itself is not reminiscent to my college's dining commons. Now if you want to try a little bit of every dip, just ask for the sampler. And if you do get the sampler, the red/orange dip is my favorite. It's nutty with a little bit of a spice. I have no idea which dip it is on the menu and I'm scared to steer my yelp fans wrong (However looking at the menu, it might be the Tirokafteri. Hold the applause guys, I just looked for whichever dip said "spicy"). Next, my recommended dishes are the Dolmathes, the Lamb Riblet, the Fishermen's Pasta, and the Traditional Moussaka. If you really want to do yourself a favor and practice some self-love, you'd get the Fishermen's Pasta. Hands down the best dish I've tried here. The sauce was bursting with so much flavor that I almost developed synesthesia but for food. The Lamb Riblet was also a great standout because it fell off the bone so easily that I almost took the bones home to give to my dog (I don't have a dog). There was only one dish that was a bit disappointing and that was the Short Rib Pasta. Lack of flavor. Tasted like cardboard compared to everything else. Not that I know what cardboard tastes like but that's what I imagine it to be like. Our favorites were the keftedes (meatballs) and spread platter. The meatballs have lamb in them but you don't taste it at all. The spread platter was very fun to try a 7 different dips/spreads. Our favorite spreads were the karoto (carrot spread) and tirokafteri (a bit of spicier red bell pepper spread.) Honestly, all the spreads were very good so I would say give any of them a try. This is not a bad thing, as it straddles the "good for family dinner" and "good for date night drinks" surprisingly well. The waitstaff are warm and friendly, if not sometimes a bit rushed to clear the table -- they twice tried to take plates we were still eating from, but from more of an "attentive-service" place. We opted to share several plates for a group of four, and this seems to be the right call. The dip platter is a MUST, with several variations that I had never tried before. Other standouts include the beef kebab and fried zucchini balls. The real winner was definitely dessert. I usually find desserts play second fiddle to the main courses of most restaurants, but this couldn't be further from the truth for Mykonos. The baklava was solid (the regular comes with a scoop of ice cream, in case you're like us and are not sold on the baklava-ice-cream alternative), but the BANANA PUDDING stole the show, from the fruity bottom all the way to the pistachio-encrusted top. Though it seems this is not unusual - there were like 6-8 birthday celebrations with free desserts and song from the restaurant. It is a bit pricer but lots of fun. Very dark lighting inside with many blue and yellowed hewed lights. Very tight crowded tables - it seems they have added more recently. Perhaps even make a little more room to walk without putting yourself or your clothes over other peoples tables when coming in and out. Outside is more open air, bright, and roomier with the tables. The service is great - manager / owner floats around checking in and making sure everything is running smoothly. The waiter we had had a heavy accent, was not very loud so he had to repeat things a bit, and was less familiar with the running of the restaurant than some of our others have been, but he was still nice and helpful getting our items out in a reasonable amount of time. This place is excellent because even the most basic items, such as the pita and olive oil are quality. Spreads are excellent - if it's your first time, try a sampler to find your favorite. Mine is the one made of dates. Of course, can't go wrong with the classic hummus. The appetizer prawns are standout because of the sauce. I'm usually not a fan of tomato sauce but Mykonos does it well. The gigantes beans are a good non-meat alternative. Lamb chops and lobster risotto are my favorite main so far. They are meaty and perfectly seasoned - worth it! In comparison, I don't like the lamb shank as much - it was cooked tender well, and orzo was tasty. But it wasn't particularly special. In the other hand, the lamb chops were excellent within its category. The lobster risotto had lobster meat throughout and served with a whole perfectly cooked lobster tail. The risotto was the perfect texture and fragrant with flavor from the lobster. It's a nice splurge! Save room for dessert - baklava here is how baklava is supposed to be! To start, we shared the beet salad and the octopus. Octopus was cooked perfectly tender. The beets went well with the oranges, watermelon radish, and arugula (both color and the balance or sweet/tart). I had the baked prawns and my friend had the moussaka. The prawns were tasty and the sauce was perfect for dipping the pita bread provided. Though I didn't try the moussaka, my friend had a generous portion that she took home for leftovers. She also had a glass of wine. My portion of the bill was ~$35 (includes tax/tip), which was reasonable for the prawns and sharing 2 apps.
