No, No, No! Not Again! I am never making the mistake of ordering food from Cap's Pizza again. I have known this pizza place since I was a kid. They used to have some pretty good food at some affordable prices. Today, they are surviving off their name alone. Do not eat here. Last night, I ordered food from Cap's. I ordered the Eggplant Parmesan Dinner. It didn't come with a side of pasta, so I had to order one separately. It did come with a small salad and some garlic knots. More on those later. I called in my order. I was at the restaurant 15 minutes later. It was a Friday night around 8:30 to 9:00. It looked like business was dying down for the night, but there were still some families eating and drinking. Everyone looked to be having a good time. The waitresses seemed to be taking care of the patrons and providing friendly service. For me, it was a different story. I walked up to the counter to inquire about my pickup order. The lady working there wouldn't even crack a smile. She looked like she wanted nothing to do with me. She did not say thank you. It felt very cold, especially for a small mom and pop pizza place like this. I still tipped a dollar for my to-go order regardless. I was however informed that my order was "not ready yet". So I grabbed a seat, and I waited. And I waited. And I waited some more. I waited for 30 minutes. That's right - 30 minutes. Add that to the 15 minutes it took me to get to the restaurant, that's 45 minutes. For a small to-go order. After 30 minutes, another waitress asked if I was waiting for something. No, I just like sitting alone in a restaurant playing on my phone... yes, I am clearly waiting for something. She asked what I was waiting for. I told her my order, even though as staff she should have already known. Five minutes later I had my food. I said thank you, and left. But it doesn't end there. Let's talk about my side of pasta. You ever see Goodfellas? Remember that scene at the end where Henry Hill talks about being served egg noodles and ketchup? Yup, that's what I had here. Poorly cooked egg noodle pasta and bland marinara. Very disappointing. The eggplant was cooked well, but drowned in the same dreadful marinara. The side salad was nothing to write home about, though to be fair, I don't expect much from a small side salad. The garlic knots were tiny and tasted stale. Awful. This meal cost me $22 - $23 if you count the courtesy tip for a pick-up order. I do not feel this meal was worth $22. It was not worth half that. I feel cheated. Never again Cap's. Never again. DO NOT EAT AT CrAP'S PIZZA. read more

Cap's Pizza- South Vero Beach- 3-Stars "You better cut the pizza in four pieces, because I'm not hungry enough to eat six." -- Yogi Berra When is it not a good time for Pizza? I'll wait as you ponder that conundrum. I certainly cannot argue with that fact that any day ending in the letter "y" and any time ending in A.M. or P.M. is the perfect time for pizza and as such was not at all disappointed when yet another Pizza and Pub joint appeared on my random chuck wagon generator. Climbing into the BBDO mobile, I pointed her south and hit the gas. Meandering down to Vero Beach didn't take all that long as most of the snowbirds have migrated back home. Cap's Pizza in Vero Beach is conveniently located near the junction of Oslo Rd. and Emerson Ave. As they are housed in a building with a vacant neighbor, there is ample parking out front. Once inside I was greeted warmly enough and shown to a table. A woman soon approached exuding the worst vibes I have ever picked up from a server and introduced herself as Nicole. Nicole has one of the worst personalities I have ever experienced since I began this journey over 18 months ago. Even worse than the repulsive server at Rooney's (if that has slipped your mind, search the site for Rooney's). Nicole was rude and certainly did not enjoy her job, at least as far as I could tell. However, one should not take that out on your customers and while Nicole wasn't yelling at me, she certainly was not polite by any stretch of the word. Wading through her unpleasantness I where I ordered two slices; one Spinach and one Pepperoni. As Her Disagreeableness retreated with my order, I took the time to glance about as is my practice. With all the Little League accouterments adorning the joint, it was clear that Cap was certainly involved in the local community. Kudos to Cap for that. It wasn't all that long before I saw Nicole grudgingly bringing my order out. As one can clearly see by the accompanying photos, the pizza certainly looked wonderful! The dough on both was fresh and crisp with the right amount of chewiness to do a pizza parlor proud. The cheese was cheese, nothing spectacular, but at least it was the real deal. The Spinach slice had loads of butter and cheese on it. It was a delicious combination and complimented the spinach perfectly without overpowering it, nor getting lost in it. The spinach was a lovely shade of green and tasted fresh. The Pepperoni was of excellent quality and while not as big as I like them, they were certainly not of a chintzy size. How does a place with harrowing service stay in business, you might ask? By slinging high quality 'za out of the oven (in this case). While this wasn't the best pizza I've had since I began this sojourn, it was certainly in the top 20. On a side note, I glanced at the Stromboli's on the way out and they certainly look like a winner. Fast becoming a family favorite in the Lewis house, Cap's is a once-a-week stop for a double cut pizza, french fries - for my son, William - an eggplant hoagie, beer and wine, and I almost forgot - garlic knots. Moving to Vero Beach from Fort Lauderdale last year, we were quickly in search of a new "pizza joint" to satisfy our culinary needs. After all, every family needs a pizza place, Chinese restaurant, dry cleaner, barber and a new favorite Publix. A great experience from the Capobianco family - the food is awesome. New York style pizza, crispy unbreaded chicken wings, excellent meatballs, an eggplant or Italian sub, etc, etc, etc. Cap's is home of the best Spinach pizza I've ever had. Whether it be John Sr. - a former boxer, his wife Colette, John Jr., Niki, - and even Tina - their top server, the service is always 5-star as well. Typically a very busy place, I was initially drawn here by the Yelp reviews. Cap's is a hole-in-the-wall and tucked into a strip center on 27th Avenue in southwest Vero Beach, just north of Oslo. Curb side appeal Cap's is not known for - I came here for the food, fast service and relaxed ambience. They have been around over 28 years and are a fan favorite among the locals. Cap's is very kid friendly. More often than not, my children will attempt to break a paper bill for the Ms. Pac-Man machine, counter-top games, or jukebox in the corner. Whether it be Cap himself (John, Sr.) or one of his staff, my kids are usually given some quarters to play the machines and the paper bill comes back to the table. I guess owing the machines does have privilege. On one occasion, Niki told me that the Ms. Pac-Man machine was bought used for a $150 years ago. Surely a money maker that machine must be. My preference, though, is Galaga. Hint, hint. Like most pizza joints, Cap's has a weekly pizza special - $8.99 for a large cheese pizza on Monday and Tuesday nights. Have ordered takeout here a few times now. I will start with the fact that Cap's does make a decent pizza, especially the crust. Some pizza fans don't like "bubbles" in their crust, in my family air bubbles indicate a good, airy pizza dough. With that said, the first time ordering, my son picked up the order. The second time, I myself picked up the order. I was a little shocked and disgusted that there is no COVID protocol practiced here whatsoever. To pick up your pizza, you have to walk towards the back of the restaurant to the bar to cash out. The patrons seated at the bar overlook the tight, open kitchen area where there were at least eight workers side by side, moving between one another serving drinks, tending bar, making pizzas, salads, and hot dishes. None of the staff are wearing masks. No one is maintaining any type of distancing from one another. The only person I could see wearing gloves was the person making the salads. To pay, you are forced to stand just beside the patrons who are seated at the bar and are not wearing masks. Other than the few of us ordering take out, none of the patrons were wearing masks. We were forced to wait longer to pick up our food because they had forgotten a portion of our order and we were told it would be another five minutes. It ended up being another ten minutes at least. We felt very uncomfortable as people stared at us for wearing our masks. In the time we were there, two patrons at the bar who were already seated and drinking and eating at the bar decided to move to get a better view of a game on the tv screen at the back of the restaurant. No one cleaned the area where they were originally seated. Two more patrons came in and sat in those uncleaned seats at the bar. I understand the importance of keeping businesses open and staff employed but to not have any regard for COVID protocol tells me all I need to know about this business. John Sr.'s restaraunt right here is ruling South Vero Beach. Dough and food is all made fresh daily. Their spinach pizza and chicken wings are world famous. No matter who is behind the counter, you know them all. Whether it be Nikki, John Sr., John Jr., Collete, Becky, Amy, or anyone else; you will be surely taken care of. I've come here for a consistent three years and nothing has changed whatsoever. Same food, sauce, toppings, and employees. Tonight I bought my fourth large pepperoni pizza. When I picked it up the staff was rude and they really can't afford to be because the pizza is mediocre at best- maybe I'm a pizza snob because I'm used to the good stuff in the Northeast. The environment is awesome inside and the place seems clean. Consistency is lacking, check out my bubble covered pizza pic-- but for $12 whatever. I'll probably try elsewhere from now on. The place is more bar than pizzeria, the food is more suited to folks without tastebuds. My order was take out and once home I was very disappointed. First they seem to need to season your food for you. Both items were seasoned with garlic, cheese and something else. The pizza was edible the calzone was a not a calzone. I ordered a small cheese calzone and got what was a small pizza folded in half with a few dollops of cheese. It was inedible just dough. This was my first and last trip. read more

We ordered half sausage/mushroom and half anchovy/mushroom and was charged for three toppings. Usually, restaurants only charge for two toppings when ordered this way. Delicious pizza and a cool atmosphere. Subs are good too. There is a bit of a technique to eating the pizza. As some people have complained about, the middle of the pizzas here are pretty sloppy and floppy. I eat the first half with a fork and knife then finish the second half with the classic NYC pizza grip. Definitely high quality cheese and very flavorful sauce. Ordered a pizza last night. Their website said curbside. When my husband got there and called. He was told they don't do curbside. He went in, and no one was wearing a mask. The workers and people inside mask-less. Kids were running all over the place unmasked. First of all, one $??? Really? More like $$. I first had Cap's pizza about 10 years ago when my husband and I moved to the neighborhood. It was horrible! Tasted like the box version of Chef Boyardee pizza kit from the 70's. We couldn't even give it away to the neighborhood kids! Never even considered it again until recently. Saw all the good reviews on Yelp and figured we would give it another try. This evening I called in an order of a large pizza with pepperoni and mushrooms and an order of a dozen wings, mild with a side of hot. Came to $29.43. I considered this a little pricey since the large is a 12 inch pie. Got home and opened the box to see pizza with pepperoni and some other mystery meat. No mushrooms. My husband thinks the other meat is sausage. Never saw sausage that looked like this meat. I was going to take it back but I had a long day and just wanted to settle in. I removed the "sausage" and ate one slice. What it lacked in taste, it made up for in grease. Never again. I cooked professionally for many years. My sainted late grandmother who came here from Italy taught me to cook as a teenager. She would be rolling over in her grave if she knew I allowed this mockery of a pizza to pass my lips. Never again. Crystals hot sauce is NOT wing sauce. The wings were cooked well done as requested but that is about the only thing this place got right on our order. Never again. The overall theme of this establishment seems to be grease. The pizza was greasy, the wings were greasy. The pizza box was so greasy that we had to remove it from our house immediately. Cap's Pizza is a hidden gem in south Vero! We've noticed that this place is always packed, and intended to go there but never did until recently. After moving into the south Vero area, we finally gave it a go. It is just a fantastic family oriented pizza joint with a friendly and attentive staff and great food. The owner, "Cap" is an ex boxer, with his memorabilia tastefully decorating the place, and an all around great business owner and gentleman. We quickly noticed that he regularly circles the dining area making sure that everyone is enjoying themselves and the food. Every time we have been there, he stops by and talks with us (and every one from what I can tell). That kind of care and customer service is extremely rare these days. His son doesn't fall far from the tree, as he is incredibly personable and friendly. They just make you feel at home and very welcome. The pizza is a very unique and delicious interpretation of NY style, in my opinion. The crust is not as thin as the standard Manhattan, etc crust, but it is still crispy and chewy, yet slightly pillowy. Like I said, unique and good. Toppings are very good quality and well-balanced. They offer some very interesting pies. I think one of my favorites is the spinach pie with bacon. You MUST order it with BACON, unless you are some sort of twisted sociopathic freak who doesn't like bacon. If that's the case, then I pity you. All others, try this pizza! I've also had the chicken Parmesan pie, and that is also excellent, along with the traditional you add-the-ingredients pies. The meatballs are also great, as are the garlic knots. Even the wings are perfectly cooked, plump and dressed well. The hot ones are really good if you are into that! Plus, they serve several craft beers and domestics in mason jars at a great price. Here's an insight into the fantastic service and friendly staff: On our first visit, we were waiting for a table (it was quite busy) and my 5 year old boy was spying the Ms. Pac-man game, which was being played by a couple other young kids. GROSSLY UNSANITARY, FILTHY (EVERYWHERE), DISEASE MAGNET OF AN ESTABLISHMENT! UNSANITARY, UNSAFE AND DISGUSTING!! This is serious, guys. If you care about your health (maybe your life) then overlook the bogus "nice" reviews and AVOID CAPS PIZZA at all costs. When we were sat at a dirty table (#2 on left of front door) we advised young server twice that the table was dirty (I superficially wiped with paper napkins) and that the pizza rack on table was left over from previous guests. Thursday night, empty tables everywhere yet server elected to chat in middle of restaurant w/coworker and a "regular" rather than clean. After 10-12 minutes the sticky, fingerprinted menu's were distributed yet NO WIPING the table, no removing pizza rack. That's real bad, but the WORST high-risk infraction was the owner behind the bar intently watching a hockey game, adjusting volume with remote that staff and customers alike share-put the dirty remote down and went straight over (NO HANDWASHING, CERTAINLY NO GLOVES) and began spinning pizza while two other staff stood beside him watching/learning. We've been there several previous times, long ago when a very nice relative (Nicole?) and her mother worked there, but never, ever again. In the wake of Coronavirus and serious foodborne illnesses CAPS PIZZA IS IRRESPONSIBLE and should consider closing shop. Owner, Mr Capobianco has obviously never taken Food Safety training, or if he has, he just doesn't give a damn about spreading rapid disease and medically crippling the community. Even the dated boxing wall memorabilia is caked with dirt, dust and debris-EVERYWHERE! The final blow was being presented with a CHECK THAT COVERTLY INCLUDED A 3% "NON CASH" SURCHARGE INCORPORATED INTO THE TOTAL....and guess what....WE PAID CASH!!! Dirty, unscrupulous crooks.
