I really wanted to try a new place with my boyfriend and I saw that they do have Gluten Free options so we decided to come here. We sat at the bar and I got a Chocolate Pear Martini and my Boyfriend got a glass of one of their Red Blends. The bar tenders were very friendly and super attentive. My drink was delicious and ended up actually having 2! (I highly recommend it!) We started our meal with an appetizer - we got the Crab Artichoke Dip with Tortilla Chips. 10/10 would recommend! So creamy and flavorful. I am super picky with my Crab Dips but this was spot on delicious! For dinner I ordered the Brisket- you get 2 sides with it and I got a salad and a baked potato. My boyfriend got the 2 Crab Cakes- he was excited because not many places offer Gluten-free Crab Cakes- and he also got 2 sides. He got a salad and the mixed vegetables. The food was super delicious and so filling. Good price points ans great portion sizes! Finally for dessert we got the Gluten Free Chocolate Tort! It was so decadent and rich but not too overly sweet. A perfect dessert to end the night! We have been looking for more Gluten-free options around the South Hills and we found a good one! Stopped in with some pals after golfing 18 nearby at Lindenwood. The place is nicely set up, clean and seating was comfortable. NOT ALLERGY FRIENDLY! Also, rude management and terrible food. My husband and I thought we would try a different restaurant for our anniversary, so we researched some places we hadn't tried that looked like nice restaurants. Capstone Grill offered a gluten free crabcake, which sounded good. With wheat and dairy allergies, it's hard finding a good meal, so I wanted to give them a try. Ordering was so upsetting that I almost walked out, though. When I told the server about my allergies, she said she would let the kitchen know. I ordered a salad and fries for the sides, but when I started to ask what was on the salad, she suddenly remembered that they put breading on their fries, so I wouldn't be able to have those. She suggested I get a baked potato, but they didn't have anything to put on it that accommodated my allergies. The only other side was a medley of vegetables that didn't sound appetizing. I opted to get the fries to go, assuming my daughter would be thrilled to eat them later. I never did get to ask what was on the salad, and the server didn't bring it up. They brought us salads after we had been at our table for 45 minutes, but mine only had a couple veggie chunks on the lettuce, while my husband's had those veggies plus cheese and croutons. The salad might have been ¾ cup of lettuce and veggies. I was starving by the time our entrees arrived, and I knew I wouldn't have much to eat because they didn't have any other sides I could have. When my plate arrived with the gluten-free crab cake, I was so disappointed. It wasn't very big and was completely flavorless. I devoured it so I wouldn't pass out, while my husband ate a full meal. He had steak and a regular crab cake, both of which were unseasoned, and the veggie medley, which proved to be inedible. While we were eating, the server offered my husband bread and didn't say anything to me. He politely declined out of respect for my plight. Once my husband finally finished his meal, I politely asked to speak with the manager, thinking I would do what I normally do and just kindly advocate for them to substitute allergens instead of leaving them out altogether because, hi, I'm hungry too, and I just paid the same amount as other people do for half a meal. (Our dinner totaled $100, by the way, so not cheap.) The manager came out ready to fight. When I approached the allergy issue with curiosity, she immediately started arguing that the restaurant had handled my meal properly. I mentioned that it would be nice to not only remove the allergens but offer a substitution, which most nicer restaurants suggest when I'm ordering. She said something about the fact that they offer gluten-free crab cakes, which I noted that I appreciate but also commented that there was no seasoning. It was flavorless. She cut me off to angrily tell me ad nauseum about how everyone loves the crab cakes. When I finally had space to speak again, I told her that I didn't actually want to talk about the crab cakes but rather the fact that nothing was substituted on the salad or an accommodation made for another side to create a full, balanced meal and that I barely had anything to eat because of that. She wouldn't stop talking about the crab cakes, so I ended it, just saying I would leave them a bad review instead. She told me, "Go ahead," and walked away. I walked out fuming, while my husband paid the bill. When we left, I felt a little sick and oddly full, but I brushed it off as having to do with the confrontation. My husband, though, had digestive issues all evening, which cut our time out short. I continued to feel sick all evening and ended up getting up in the middle of the night to vomit. The incidents of this evening easily could have been resolved if the manager hadn't been rude, and I wouldn't have bothered posting a review if she had been open to my discussion about handling food for people with allergies. However, I can't let their poor handling of my allergies, rude treatment, and illness go without letting the public know. I will NEVER eat at Capstone Grill again. read more

Capstone grill has the best crab cake in town, that's a fact! Better than Monterrey bay! And if you are gluten free, you can ask for it to be made GF! Everything I've tried here from the salads to the fish dinners are excellent, and don't forget their seasonal featured beverages- always a treat. I have to add the service here is second to none, and even if you pop in a little before closing(30 min) they've always been good to us and happy to have the business. I have dined at capstone many times and always with a group of people. This particular night a group of friends went to dinner to catch up. I would like to note that this group is a group of service industry workers, from restaurant owners,servers, bartenders and retail. We have all done something with the public for many years. The kitchen took longer than normal to prepare our food but we didn't care because we were having fun catching up. Our original server was very nice and this review isn't about them. They had to step away momentarily. The second server( who the review is about) took over for a few minutes. She felt the need to reprimand us and tell us that we were rude, mean and asking for too much and that why our original server had to step away. We were shocked to hear that, (we felt we were nothing but nice) but mostly shocked that we as customers were being spoken too that way. In all my years of dining I have never been spoken too that way, not even at a dive bar. Needless to say she killed the mood. While we originally planning on having a few more drinks and some dessert. We just ended up leaving with plans to never return. The best crab cakes you will ever eat. I am pretty picky whenever it comes to crab cakes because most are loaded with filler and not much meat at all. Capstone's crab cakes are loaded with crab meat and pair perfectly with their homemade remoulade sauce. I can't just order the single crab cake dinner, it always has to be the double because you are left wanting more due to how wonderful they are! They also have a great dessert tray each night! I went here for a group work holiday lunch. There were 8 of us and we didn't have a reservation. Even with the large group we were greeted by a friendly hostess and seated promptly. They offer bread service, the bread is fresh the oil flavor is good too. We ordered the crab stuffed mushrooms, bruschetta, and fried zucchini appetizers. They were paired with delicious sauces. The mushrooms were a good size and the crab filling was really meaty. The bruschetta had a baked cheese on the toasts which added another layer to the flavor. The fried zucchini straws were really crispy and addicting. I ordered the diver sea scallops prepared English style (cooked in butter and bread crumbs) and the New England style clam chowder and rice pilaf for my sides. The scallops were cooked perfectly, the chowder was just as good as what you can get in New England, actually it's one of the best that I've had in the Pittsburgh area. The rice pilaf was ok, it was a good accompaniment to the scallops. I requested extra lemon to squeeze on the scallops. Most of the group enjoyed their meals. Our server was really great. I did not give this restaurant a 5 star review because I felt like they need to upgrade the quality of their silverware and the dishes. What a hidden gem! I have driven past this restaurant 25+ times and we finally stopped in Thursday night. I called ahead and they held a table for my party of 3. I ordered the Bacon Chedder burger, medium, and started waiting. To my surprise, free bread was brought to our table, and everyone likes free bread, and the bread itself was great. Got my burger and it was big, so squeezing was necessary to enjoy the sandwich. Took a bite and it was bland, generic and simple. Wasn't bad, wasn't good, just OK. Now when I put the sandwich down into a plate filled with its own grease I was, quite frankly, upset. I also got the Fries and Chips as my side, they were OK, fries were better than the chips though. My associates said their meals were fantastic, and recommended the Crab Mac and Cheese, so I guess I'm the only one who had a subpar experience. However, my experience this evening has me rethinking my loyalty to this restaurant. While eating my vegetable side dish, I found a 2 inch piece of hard plastic. I brought this to the attention of our waitress who's response was ambivalent, like I was handing her my bread plate...like this happens all the time....she just had someone bring me another salad. The plastic object in my food was never discussed. I asked our waitress if the chef had been informed, she said "didn't the owner come by?" My response "no, just a server." Here the other server was the owner, who never acknowledged the plastic in my food. I asked to see the owner again and asked "how could this plastic have found its way into my vegetables?" Her response - "it comes vacuumed packed from the plant." No..."I am sorry....no 'can I offer you a dessert on the House'....her response was 'it's just plastic' ". In McMurray there are many other fine restaurants to patronize....I will no longer be spending my money at Capstone....pre-packaged vegetables from who knows where and an owner who is ambivalent about foreign objects in their guest's food...unacceptable. read more

So I have eaten several times at Capatone Grill. It is a local place I visit when in the area. It is not a chain restaurant or some trendy type. It is just a great local place with fresh food and entrees. They are know for their crab cakes, which I did have one on my last visit. No filler and baked to perfection. The waitress was great her name was Gianna or Bella: she explained all the specials and options for the meal. The whole meal was good. I had Mediterranean chicKen with a side crab cake. Went on a date with my hubby last night. This was our first time at Capstone. I have a really hard time getting him to try new places, so this was a success just because he got something new and enjoyed it! We had the bruschetta as an appetizer. It came with a basil aiolli...this is a big YUCK for my hubby (won't eat ANYTHING creamy!), so the waitress kindly returned it to the kitchen and brought us a fresh one...delicious! I had the sea scallops with the blackened Cajun spice! They were cooked to perfection and I LOVED the heat from the Cajun spices. I had a side salad (very generous portion) and sauteed Brussels sprouts with baby carrots. For dessert I had a raspberry and peach filled white cake...everything was fantastic if a little pricey. My husband had the sea bass with the rosemary lemon vinaigrette recommended by the server. He had the pasta and side salad as well. For dessert he chose the carrot cake. He thoroughly enjoyed the sea bass, said the pasta was okay, it didn't WOW him, and he thought the carrot cake was a little dry. Loved the atmosphere and the service was impeccable. We've had larger portions and more filling options at other restaurants for less money, but we will probably return to try the crab cakes and filet because we heard a lot of good things about those particular menu items. read more

Everything was right: our friendly server Ashley, the restaurant owner Mary Beth who visited our table (not that creepy table touch you sometimes get, but a nice interaction), and the food was fresh and delicious!! Crab cakes have almost no filler with big lumps of crab and salmon almond crusted '- both Re favs. My one friend likes the sirloin with sautee mustrooms. I have had two completely opposite experiences here. My family and I went here in November for a birthday celebration. It couldn't have been better. Their fried oysters appetizer was a huge hit. The meal was quite good. In fact it was so good, I received a gift card for the holidays so we could go back and enjoy it again. Last weekend I returned - and was SO disappointed. The salad lacked flavor and taste. Our fried calamari was beyond bland. The veal chop special was tough and unpleasant. Fortunately, they hit a home run with the stuffed trout. Amazing. Seafood is the specialty here. A wide variety available (10+ types of fish, shellfish) with the diner in charge of the major decisions of what method and/or sauce. Part of me thinks this is a good idea, opening up a multitude of variations, and part of me thinks this is a cop-out on the part of the kitchen--failing to make a decision what best suits each seafood. I chose Alaskan Halibut. First decision was the smaller (6oz) or larger portion. Then, I needed to select a prep. Some of the options that I can recall: Cajun, English (butter+bread crumbs),Simply Char Grilled, Basil Aioli, blackened. There are MANY more options. I went with Parmesan Peppercorn cream sauce. I was then asked what temperature (such as rare, medium, well etc). For halibut? Loved the fish! Really. The best piece of fish I have had for a really long time. I opted for a "Cauliflower Mash" as a side instead of baked potato. Bad decision. Just the sort of dish that gives cauliflower a bad name. It was a strange texture, loaded with some kind of cheese and it smelled (like stinky cauliflower did when my mom used to boil it to death) Desserts offered are all cakes, pies and pastries from Bethel Bakery. So, they were definitely quality, but another cop-out. Nothing offered was house made. Random Notes: there are tv's here & there around the place. We were able to watch Pitt lose in the NCAA first round. What can I say my fiancée and I simply loved this restaurant. We have eaten at other more expensive seafood restaurants but this one is as good, if not better, and overall we found the prices to be very reasonable.
