Was at The Nest in Jeannette for a friend's birthday last evening. There were 10 of us in the party. Haven't been there for many years, and not sure why, except we don't live nearby. I'm sorry about that because it is exceptional. The decor is stylish yet simple and elegant. Easy to have a conversation. Our service by Judy was wonderful, starting with our drink orders. Several ordered lobster that they are known for, others enjoyed steak, which looked really good. A couple people had the shrimp lobster scampi, which looked wonderful, stuffed shrimp - excellent, and I had the salmon on a plank, which was cooked perfectly and delicious with the maple glaze. House salad salads and choice of rice or twice baked potatoes rounded out the meal. There was no room for dessert!! the birthday girl received a complementary almond cake which she could not finish, and it looked amazing. Getting separate checks made the payment process easy too. Second try here was superb. Seafood bisque was just as good. Stuffed mushrooms were good. Salmon with crab stuffing and stuffed shrimp were excellent - cooked to perfection with right amount of seasoning and butter. Lava cake topped off the excellent meal! read more

Another trip to Jeanette to visit The Nest went well last night. We were drawn in by the advertisement in the Trib noting the specials of a Seafood Platter, John Dory And Hogfish. I was not familiar with the two fishes and a quick Google search explained both to me. The Hogfish was from Florida and had a mild flavor similar to Grouper, which I love, so I ordered that grilled. It did not live up to my expectations however. It was okay, not great. Perhaps another preparation method would have been a better choice? My husband went for the seafood Platter which was huge and did not disappoint! My son, although he loves seafood, loves steak more and The Nest has consistently provided him with a tender perfectly cooked steak. My cocktail was an Ocean Bleu Martini and the dinners come with 2 sides, such as salad and twice baked potatoes. Our server was very attentive and couldn't have been nicer. The decor is largely unchanged from the 90's but who cares when you're eating delicious seafood? It looked like the facade had an update since we were there. This is where you go when you want delicious seafood! I'd stick to the well known favorites of Crab Cakes, Lobster tails and Scallop or Shrimp dishes. read more

I'll be honest, I was quite skeptical when we pulled up but that changed the moment we walked in. The interior is an elegant modern look awash in white with beautiful linen tables. Kayla greeted us upon entering and explained that the host would seat us soon. Kayla ended up being our waitress and she was knowledgeable, attentive, and friendly. She explained the daily specials then asked if she could get us anything to drink besides water. We placed our drink order and then ordered the mozzarella cheese wheel which was amazing. Our entrees were seafood pasta which was scallops, shrimp, and crab in a lobster butter sauce and lobster and crab sauté over a bed of rice. The seafood was exceptional and the star of both dishes: more seafood than rice or pasta. Stuffed to the gills, we shared the New York style cheese cake topped with strawberries. The cheesecake was outstanding and the strawberries were just strawberries let to sit in sugar to create a natural sauce. Next time we are in Jeanette, we will be stopping again! read more

I love this place. I am not from the area but visit often because I have family nearby. Being from the Boston area, I appreciate good lobster and was blown away with the size and taste of the Nest's. I have read about the Nest for years as having great lobster. We went and and while true, the lobster was big and well priced, everything else was just ok. My 10 oz tail was $59 and fine but needed a lot if salt. My husband's steak, $59 was tender, but lacking flavor. Sides were average. Tbe onion soup was excellent!!! The atmosphere was very dated. Would consider going back for well priced lobster only, if in the area, but in no hurry. read more

Had dinner with some friends last night and once again enjoyed the BEST LOBSTER ! Our waitress, Kris was delightful and very attentive. She started us off with a sampler platter and crab cake.. both were delicious! We never had to wait for drinks and the bartender made a great bourbon old fashioned. Our new Favorite seafood restaurant. Went there this Tuesday - location Jeanette PA. Our first time. everyone working there were super friendly, The interior was nicely laid out and classy we got seated in a small area by the window with the six tables, it was nice and cozy. We ordered oysters on the half shell, one reason we went there my date and I both love oysters, they did not disappoint fantastic. they have a nice wine list and. Specialty drinks. I had my lady.order a large lobster tail (because we were going to share) I had lobster and crab meat over rice.We were really enjoying ourselves was the best we had in a while. read more

My wife and I went to the Nest for a birthday celebration. We were last here many years ago, but I loved there cold water Australian lobster tails. We took the 40 minute ride to see if they still were that good. We started with the oysters on the half shell and escargot. Both were very good. We both indulged on the lobster tails, a 16 oz tail for me and 10 oz tail for my wife. It's rare to see such large lobster tails and even rarer to get Australian tails. (They actually have a 22 oz tail as well.) They were delicious! Just as I remembered them. We enjoyed the tiramisu for desert. The service was good, the ambiance was nice, ( although they could use better quality flatware), but you we didn't go for the ambience. If you want a real treat you can't get anywhere else in Pittsburgh or in most other cities, go for the tails. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. Let's start with the service. We had a reservation for 2 at 8pm on Feb 15th. We waited about 10 minutes to be brought to a table, and then another 35 minutes before the waitress even acknowledged us! The waitress said that the host waited that long to tell her we had been sat but who knows. And we were crammed into a tiny corner of the restaurant, there was some kind of unidentifiable red sauce splattered on the curtain next to us, and dust covering the windowsill behind me. Overall, the restaurant felt dirty and dated. We didn't get our food until around 9:30, an hour and a half after our reservation time. It was a busy night so I could've forgiven the wait time if it wasn't for the food, which is my next point. The food: I had the seafood trio and the lobster that came with it was almost inedible with how over cooked and rubbery it was. The same with the shrimp. The scallops were cooked well but had zero flavor. My partner got the surf and turf and his lobster tail was the same - a solid chunk of rubber. Not to mention the steak was mediocre at best. We would've gotten better tasting steaks from Texas Roadhouse. Even with having the lobster tail removed from our bill, we still spent upwards of $100 (not including the $40 tip we gave our waitress) Considering the price and seeing all the positive reviews, we had our hopes up. Safe to say we would've had a better time had we gone to the McDonald's drive through instead. We will NOT be returning and telling everyone we know to stay far away from this place. read more

If you've read some of my other posts, you'll know that one the first things I look for is the beer selection. The Nest falls short in that regard, but that's clearly not a priority for them. That's not to say though that they're too classy for any booze...they have a nice selection of bourbons and wines. They provide a recommended wine pairing for your meal too, which helps a knuckle-dragging beer drinker like me. The Nest is a seafood joint primarily, but they do include some turf with their surf. I love good seafood, and The Nest's quality is some of the best I've had in the Pittsburgh area. I had a lobster/crab sauté that was really good...far above what you'll get at a Red Lobster-ish chain. I do have to warn you sushi lovers out there that it's not on the menu. They stay in their swim lane and offer an excellent seafood meal. The vibe is a mix or classy and casual. For guys I'm thinking khakis and dress shirts (no ties) although I was in jeans and a golf shirt and they didn't turn me away. I sat at the bar for dinner, so my "waitress" was also the bartender. She was fabulous. Attentive and friendly, but not in an obnoxious over-the-top way. Knew the menu well and made good recommendations. She was the kind of server I wish I could pick up and carry to the next place. The Nest is on the expensive side, but you have to expect to pay a premium for high-quality seafood this far inland. When you're west of the Appalachians, have craving for GOOD seafood, and are willing to pay a reasonable bill, the Nest is worth making a trip. read more

Went for my mother's birthday celebration. I got the Seafood trio dish and added a steak. Seafood was cooked perfectly (minus the sear I like on the scallops) and my steak was a little overdone but still tasty. Crab soup was delicious and my wife's crab cakes were also very good. The lobster was moist, tender, and delicious! The service was excellent! Regarding the portions of the side dishes, I was looking forward to my twice baked potato. I was disappointed with what I got. It was a small 1/2 of a potato. For a $55meal, plus alcohol, tax and tip, I expected to receive at least a whole potato. The other item that disappointed me was that we were in a tiny room. Although the restaurant was more than half empty, they crowded 11 people in our small dining room, which was in the front window of the restaurant. Our appetizers were very tasty... the Crab Hozel was full of flavor and their cold shrimp cocktail was HUGE. My partner had the filet mignon with shrimp. The shrimp were HUGE and the steak was perfectly cooked. I had the 16oz. Lobster tail which was MAGNIFICENT. Pittsburgh is a hard area to get a good lobster tail and I hadn't had one in many years. This was worth the wait! Our server surprised us with a decorated plate that had "Happy Birthdaversary" written on it with a piece of cheesecake and a candle on top. We also had a slice of their Almond Torte (which is better than the one from that famous Pittsburgh bakery), this is made in house and delish! I ordered an Irish Coffee and received an authentic Irish Coffee in a glass mug with cream on top tinted green! What a great experience. Grew up going to the nest as a little girl and I remember how sophisticated I felt going to the nest just this past weekend we took our friend and we wanted to show her just how great there's seafood was so amazing well, the sophistication of the restaurant has not changed The staff is just absolutely amazing. The food comes out just exactly as you ask them to prepare it. Our friend Nancy was just absolutely amazed. She came from Dunbar. PA just experienced this restaurant and she cannot wait to take her family and the people that she works with and she's a teacher at the YMCA in Wahala PA, I would recommend this place to. It's a great place to go to just put it into your GPS because it's in the middle of Jeanette Pennsylvania and if you don't know where it's at it's kind of difficult to find but other than that it's the most wonderful restaurant I've ever been to. read more

There were four of us on a Friday night to celebrate a friends birthday. We arrived on time and were seated quickly. The waitress was very friendly and took our drink order, and was back with no waiting or wondering where she was. The table ordered 2 Lobster Tails, and 2 Seafood Trios. Everyone loved there meal. Even the pickiest one had nothing to complain about, (that is saying something!) A few things to say about the place, the lighting is great, you can actually see what you are eating. No loud music or bad acoustics from open ceilings so you can actually have a conversation without screaming to the person across from you. And the one thing that was very impressive was the owner pitching in and helping staff clear tables or remove a plate from a table when their server was busy with other guests. My BF and I went on a Friday around 530pm. The staff walked past us and didn't acknowledge us. The bartender also saw us and didn't acknowledge us. After about 5 minutes, i finally stopped a wait staff to ask if we seated ourselves. She said no, someone would be with us shortly. We got seated pretty soon after that. The Nest describes itself as specializing in steak and seafood. I'm not sure if I agree on the steak part. I ordered the ribeye medium rare. It was overcooked and not very warm. It wasn't seasoned at all. I put a pat of butter on it and salted and peppered it, and it still wasn't too flavorful. Disappointing for a $39 steak. The waitress seemed to disappear after we got our meal so I couldn't talk with her about it and I hate wasting food so I did eat it. My boyfriend had a much better meal by choosing the Seafood Trio- shrimp, lobster, and scallops with garlic butter. All of the seafood was delicious, although it was a little on the cool side. The salads were delicious. I had the homemade Bleu cheese dressing which I recommend and my BF had the house vingarette. Our waitress came back once toward the end of the meal to check on us and bring my BF more garlic butter. We had to ask another wait staff to get our bill. She must have found our waitress who came over apologizing. When we asked for the check she offered after dinner drinks, coffee, and dessert. We said no thanks and asked for the check again. She again offered us something for after our meal. We had to decline and ask for a third time to have our check brought. She was pleasant and polite, just not too attentive. The restaurant is in downtown Jeanette in what appeared to be a former department store, and the outside is fairly nondescript. Inside was clean with minimalist decor for sure. I won't go out of my way to go back, but if a group of friends was going and asked me to go, I would, but I'd definitely order the shrimp, scallops, or lobster. read more

I really, really wish I could endorse this 'institution' in Jeannette. Sadly I cannot. We ordered takeout in the Pandemic during a particular time when numbers were spiking in our county. We believe in supporting local businesses! The place was packed, no social distance was being observed and very few masks were being used. Granted, those eating cannot wear masks, but they are not the point of that comment. Tables were closely spaced. We found ourselves not wanting to eat the food prepared in a place so casual about pandemic standards.
