We have eaten at other more expensive seafood restaurants but this one is as good, if not better, and overall we found the prices to be very reasonable. One of the best choices in the area. The crab cakes at Capstone are the only ones I am willing to eat. Big chunks of lump crab, loosely packed and with very little binding - you actually get to taste the crab and not a giant mess of vaguely seafoody, deep fried gunk. The crab dip was also good, very cheesy with a ton of crab. Lots of fish, decent steak, add on seafood options for entrees. I've never had problems with service. We made reservations which I believe would be the best thing to do. When we arrived the hostess was going to seat us in a very high traffic area. My mother is 80 and really felt uncomfortable . I asked for a different table. This appeared to upset the hostess. After we were seated at a new table everything was fantastic . Our waitress was very attentive and the food was delicious. Two of my party had crabcakes. Its all they ever get and they say they are the best! I had the parmedian crusted scallops. They were delicious. I highly recommend this restaurant. read more

I love the filet and crab cake! Tuna sashimi app is great! The bread (of course, bread? Oil? Duh?) is delicious too. They have these seasonal cheesecakes that are seriously amazing. Around Christmas it was Christmas cookie cheesecake and last week it was blueberry muffin cheesecake. My girlfriends and I have get together here and sometimes just me and the kids. Stopped in on a whim on a Friday night. The place is very small and congested. Every table is literally only a foot away from another table. You see and hear everything. Even getting up and trying to use the bathroom is challenge . The food was mediocre at best. I had the seafood pasta. My wife and I have been going here a couple of times a year. My first experience was great and weirdly made me feel like I was in the Outer Banks. I do feel like I am less impressed with each visit. The food was incredible. I had chilean sea bass with Cajun mango and it was the best piece of fish I have ever had. It was cooked perfectly. The crab artichoke dip was awesome. I had the Octoberfest pork chop special with the spaetzle and it was awesome. Extremely flavorful, and a fair portion side.there were two smaller chops grilled to perfection. My wife had the seafood rotolo special and it was just ok. They paired the rotolo (basically a large seafood stuffed noodle) with a ariate and it was terrible. The rotolo itself was packed full of seafood, and was delicious but the ariate absolutely detracted from the dish. I would have rather had the rotolo served with ketchup than the tomato paste they called ariate sauce. We ate the meal and informed the waiter our opinion and he was argumentative about it. But whatever. All and all a solid dining experience, a bit high priced with fair portion sides but not phenomenal. I would come back if I was in the area. read more

Best part of dinner was the mojito and fresh fish entrees. I had the parmesean crusted halibut (yum!) and my boyfriend had swordfish in a mango cajun sauce (also really good). Aside from that, the decor was a bit shabbier than I expected and they played 80's music like Freeze Frame. Bread was totally boring - white cold loaf and dipping oil that was pretty tasteless. Salad was run of the mill and dressing tasted bottled. Service was good except for one very important part. When the waitress brought the food, my boyfriend and I both had empty cocktails. She took an order for another round, but we did not receive them until our food was almost gone. It was very uncomfortable to eat 75% of a meal with no drink. If you love fish, you live in the Canonsburg, PA area and you don't know about the Capstone Grill yet, you must live under a rock. This is by far the best seafood restaurant in the South Hills. The owners, Tim and Mary Beth, are friendly and are always there, Tim and Brad, the chefs, are world class, and the food is outstanding. But, even if you don't like fish, their other selections, including beef and chicken, are delicious and their sandwiches for lunch or for a light dinner are all excellent. The appetizers are also outstanding, from tomato bruschetta to stuffed hot peppers and ahi tuna. The other thing to love about the Capstone grill is their wine list. An excellent selection, and no bottle is over $10 over their cost...which spois you when you go to other restaurants and look at the outrageous prices they charge for wine. Where else in Western Pennsylvania are you going to get a bottle of Louis Martini Cabernet for $26 or a bottle of Norman Shiraz for $25??? Not to mention their reserve list...a bottle of Brunello for $85??? Are you kidding me??? A very casual and friendly place, whether it's date night or a casual Friday out with friends, you'll never go wrong if you decide to include the Capstone Grill in your plans!!! read more

Our first time at Capstone Grill was over the top amazing. The whole family was satisfied with what we ordered, from the delicious crab cakes, to the amazing shrimp scampi italiano, and also the fresh fish choices of swordfish and salmon were to die for. Everything was so flavorful and seasoned perfectly. We were all stuffed but still shared dessert because it looked so decadent, which exceeded our expectations. On top of everything our server was amazing, she was so outstanding (I will comment her name when I find the receipt--because she deserves the credit). We moved to the south hills a year ago and are so disappointed that we haven't been here before. From not remembering our app order, to just plain not giving a crap, our server was not good. He was also the bartender with an empty bar, so maybe he was having an off night. Very nice seafood selection. Always busy but the food is excellent. Fried shrimp is always very good. Lenten special of shrimp and scallop dumpling soup was very creamy and nice. Salad is nice. I am giving the restaurant the benefit of the doubt in awarding three stars. My party of three was seated in the rear dining room, which is plain and ordinary, and which has chairs that are barely satisfactory. One has the feeling that the chairs can easily break. The lady who seated us was delightful and full of personality. Our server was pleasant, friendly, and attentive but I did not receive a thank you at the end of the meal. My stepson availed himself of the children's menu and there were extra charges for a second glass of milk ($1.75) and a second small container of applesauce ($1.50). The zucchini straws were a decent sized order for $7.50 and were tasty. My bacon cheeseburger ($9.95) was very good, and the meat was top quality. It was done medium rare as I requested. The french fries were good, nicely browned, not greasy, and tasted like they had been air-fried. My wife's pepperjack open-faced steak sandwich with onion straws was a disappointment: not tasty and dry. Her caesar salad was okay, nothing special. If there is a value item on the menu, it is the burger. Other items are priced in the high teens to low $20's, no bargains. Entrees include two side dishes. The restaurant specializes in seafood, which is not something that any of us regularly order. The place did not wow us and we are not likely to return soon. There are a number of better options within a few hundred feet of Capstone Bar and Grill which would be less expensive. read more

Great seafood menu. Excellent fish sandwich. Draft Beer not so great. I tried two very different drafts, Blue Moon which was served with an unwanted orange slice on the edge of the glass. Then a Bass ale. both beers were tasteless and FLAT,with little or no conditioning. I didn't finish either one. They had a nice selection of wines to pair up with a huge selection of fish including halibut, scrod, grouper, and more. Service was good. My sis & brother-in-law celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary this week and told me (in L.A.) they were going to their favorite spot on their way back from the Meadows. With little time to pull it off, I called and pre-paid for their dinner over the phone from the other side of the country. It was all a surprise & Capstone's managers were more than happy to oblige. Only problem- I didn't have time to get them a picture of the happy couple, so they asked everyone walking in if they happened to be celebrating any occasion. Bingo! They got em & made it happen. My sister was delighted, and not just by the surprise - she reported the Crab Cakes & Filet Mignon were delivered promptly, cooked to perfection and as tasty as ever. We have moved to Florida but was in Pa for an event.. we met dear friends at Capstone because it was our favorite restaurant when we lived in Washington Pa. the place was hopping busy Owner Mary Beth recognized us and greeted us warmly. We had the appetizer stuffed banana peppers was great. We all had seafood....I had the Alaskan Halibut, was perfectly done tender and was dressed with a sauce but the taste of the fish was allowed to come through. My husband had sea bass it was a toss up whose was better! Our friends had the special and the other had shrimp. Our friends were equally satisfied and happy. Chef/Owner Tim came out and said hello and ask about the food....gave him a great thumbs up and Mary Beth came over later and ask as welll.... we always went to the wine dinners and miss them sooo much, the food which they explain the prep and the wines and how they paired it with the lovely prepared courses are a enjoyable informative tasting evening. Decided to eat here as a spur of the moment 'lets have a date night' after our Chiropractor visit. Having driven by the Capstone Grill numerous times my fiance and I decided to try it out. The exterior is unpretentious upscale and the interior was elegantly simple. We enjoy eating at the bar top when it is just us but always wait for the host(ess) to seat us or point us in the right direction. Upon walking into Capstone the hostess was hunched over the greeting table? Hostess table? On the landline. We waited for her to at least raise her eyes to acknowledge out presence. When she started smiling into the phone I realized she wasn't taking an order or a reservation but was having a personal conversation. I eventually said if its all right to seat ourselves at the bar and we got a head nod. As we were sitting down my fiance said 'look around' and we realized other than one other couple the average age of the clientele was 65 or so... Not often we feel like the young people in the room. After getting our menu we discussed going to another restaurant due to the high costs of the meal but ultimately we decided to split a meal and hope that it would be enough and worth the cost. The bartender was very good with giving us the nightly specials. We ultimately decided on their Octoberfest German Pork Chops and had a split up charge that allowed us to get an extra soup and side and added a Ceasar salad. I got the German potato soup that was very creamy and would of been better with bacon or pork added. My fiance got the New England Clam Chowder that was awesome (being the great guy he is he let me have half of it). The bread awesome with their olive oil spread. The pork chops came out on separate plates (which was also really nice) and ultimately was okay. It wasn't anything that we couldn't of made easily if not better at home. My fiance remind me that we ordered off the German menu and most likely it doesn't reflect the typical meal there. I was worried about the cost but to our happy surprise with two draft beers, a surcharge for the split plates, an added salad, and the meal (that was plenty for two people) the cost was only 35 dollars.
