[[HIGHLIGHT]]The Back Porch feels like a hidden gem. Located about 50 minutes south of Pittsburgh, this historic building turned restaurant was beautiful and checked all of our boxes. The ambiance is intimate and welcoming. The interior and decor really add to the charm.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We had reservations for 10 at 6:30 on a Saturday. We were sat in a back room at a nice big table. Sonny (sp?) our wait staff did a phenomenal job keeping up with all of our requests. A couple diners in our group were picky eaters, and even with their nitpicking he maintained a great attitude and made sure to make everyone feel at home. They had a great selection of summer specials. I opted for the hibiscus mule - a yummy cocktail with a tequila twist. My husband got the strawberry smash. Both drinks were strong and full of flavor. Thank goodness the homemade rolls came after my drink because the mule was kicking in! The bread was soft and you could tell it was homemade. Then came the food. The presentation was gorgeous and the flavors were on point. We ordered the calamari as our appetizer. Lightly breaded and not overly salty like you get some places. The sweet chili sauce with it was the perfect addition. For dinner we had the prime rib, and salmon Hemingway, with a side of scalloped potatoes and Parisian carrots. I was getting full but couldn't help but finish my salmon. Everything tasted amazing! The potatoes were rich and creamy. I had to save room for dessert. They were out of my first choice of chocolate mousse cake, so I opted for the creme brûlée. Wonderful experience at the Back Porch. I highly recommend enjoying a date night or celebratory dinner here!

Boyfriend and I traveled from Ohio to celebrate his birthday. Luke was our waiter for the evening. We started with drinks. I had the Apple Cider Sangria and BF had an Old Fashioned with Angels Envy. We were also brought a plate for four piping hot homemade roles with a large dallop of butter. We also shared the Cold Shrimp Cocktail. They were season so well and quite enjoyable. I ordered the Maine Style Scallops made with butter and cream, with a ritz cracker crust. BF had a filet mignon, cooked to medium rare perfection. We also shared a side of Cheesy Scalloped Potatoes. After dinner, Luke was telling us his family connection to this house and the family artwork displayed. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We then went down to the Speakeasy to have a look around. The house is preserved well and was such a great experience[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]].

Celebrating a birthday dinner at the Back Porch was a fun evening thanks in large part to our server Bre. Thank you for making our evening. We started with the appetizer trio. Shrimp/ribs/general so cauliflower. Enough for 4 people to share. Dinner selections were rack of lamb, prepared perfectly and seasoned well. The salmon with crab meat I snuck a bite for a taste. Almost had food envy it was so good. The chocolate cake for dessert was a good size to share after a big meal. We also recommend a cocktail. Our preference is a martini. Gray Goose straight up, dirty and with 3 blue cheese stuffed olives to complement dinner. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We enjoyed dinner on the outside patio. Such a pleasant and relaxing dinner spot.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We recommend this restaurant and server Bre.

I can't help but order the same thing every time...it's just too good! [[HIGHLIGHT]]We've sat in a different area each time we've been, and it's equally enjoyable throughout the whole establishment.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Lovely servers and I would go every day if I lived closer :)

If you're looking for a charming summer dining spot just outside of Pittsburgh, [[HIGHLIGHT]]The Back Porch is a must visit. Located just 50 minutes from downtown pittsburgh, this historic restaurant delivers a cozy, upscale experience with a fresh seasonal menu that highlights local ingredients and summer flavors.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Alaina took great care of us throughout our entire visit and guided us through their menu. We also got a chance to speak with their phenomenal chef, Kevin Carson. Their summer menu is full of standout dishes. We had the burrata bruschetta and the calamari to start. You could taste how fresh the tomatoes were and the calamari is fully prepared in their kitchen. Be sure to ask about the daily specials, we got the special cocktail, the Paloma Hugo Spritz and it was the perfect thing for patio sipping. We also split the clobster grilled cheese because we couldn't resist crab and lobster combined with cheese between bread. It was absolutely delicious. For our mains, we tried some of the summer menu highlights- the Salmon & Crab Hemingway, Rack of Lamb, side of truffle fries, side of cheesy scallop potatoes, and a side of asparagus. Everything was made to perfection and truly incredible. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I absolutely adored their outdoor seating area. It was a mix of covered and uncovered patio offerings g a peaceful atmosphere whether you're looking to enjoy in the sun or a shaded seat.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It's the perfect setup for a summer evening with friends, family, or date night. We did save room for dessert and tried out the dessert sampler which came with the pecan ball, crème brûlée and a cannoli. We paired these with their tiramisu martini and their s'mores martini. It was the perfect finish for a perfect meal. [[HIGHLIGHT]]With friendly service, delicious food, and a relaxed yet elegant vibe, The Back Porch is a hidden gem for anyone looking to enjoy a summer meal outside the city.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Add it to your Pittsburgh food bucket list!

The ribeye, but I wish I would've known to get a close up on the brussels sprouts

[[HIGHLIGHT]]What a great setup, and the Speakeasy Pub downstairs (basement?) has a really nice ambiance.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The drinks were fabulous, and while my steak was good, the roasted brussels sprouts may be one of the five best food items I've had in SW PA! They're they freaking good.

This is my second review, because the first was accidentally erased. I hope this is as good, because this restaurant is fantastic. Such a quaint, attractive place, with colonial design, linen table cloths, brick walls, and fireplaces. Beautifully decorated. This was a perfect place for our 42nd anniversary, very romantic. Colton, our waiter was excellent, cared for our every need. He is what every upscale restaurant should have in a server. We started by ordering a delicious, well chilled Riesling wine. It went very well with both of our dinner selections. We first shared a bowl of lobster bisque. Very rich, creamy, and delicate, with big chunks of lobster: to die for. We were served wonderful home made warm rolls, harder on outside and soft and sweet on the inside. Butter was whipped, which always makes it better. My husband had Half Rack Australian Lamb , perfectly seared medium rare with a purple plum and plum wine gravy. The sweetness was so yummy. But as far as I'm concerned, my scallops were the best! Maine style, baked jumbo scallops, nice portion, served in white wine and cream sauce with ritz cracker crust. These scallops were just the way you want them . Soft, sweet, plump and tasteful. We shared a pasta with butter and parmigiana . The spaghetti seemed a bit al dente initially, but softened a little after soaking in the sauce. And then, Colton HAD to offer dessert. Where would I put it.... But don't worry, that chocolate and pecan crusted ball of vanilla ice cream went down very easily as it was covered with whip cream and a cherry on top. Kudos to the kitchen! I hope to see you all there, since I'll be back. Oh, and by the way, we had a reservation at another restaurant.... But the menu did not look inviting .....and we paid half the price. This restaurant was well worth the ride from downtown Pittsburgh to Speers.

First timer at the Back Porch and was not disappointed. I had the prime rib and it was incredibly tender. The side dishes are made for two people. This is a fancier place with a higher end menu and pricing but well worth it. The drinks were also fantastic. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It is situated inside an old brick home that was converted to a restaurant.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

I've always wanted to have dinner here, this restaurant has always been known for being one of the nicest establishments in the area. We decided to come in on a Sunday evening to celebrate my birthday. Our experience wasn't what I hoped that it would be. I turned to Yelp first which had certain menu items listed but when we arrived the restaurant no longer had the eggplant Parmesan, or the duck. I loved sitting at our secluded table but once our waitress had a big table come in we were completely forgotten about for what seemed like an eternity. The food itself was a big miss. I ordered the mushroom Florentine , and my husband had the scallops. My pasta entree was large, but lacked any flavor at all. The sauce was very watered down, and I had a difficult time eating much of it. My husband said his scallops were good, but at the price point there should have been more. The menu highlighted the scallops as jumbo, which wasn't the case. At the end of the evening we were very ready to leave, and didn't have dessert.

It sells a variety of dry and sweet wines (e.g., red, white, rose, sparkling, and cider), cocktails, mocktails, and beers. Some vineyards are on the grounds as are many barrels and bottles of wines. The restaurant has both indoor seating and seasonal outdoor seating in lakeside cabanas and winter igloos. It is open for brunch/lunch and dinner. It is a nice setting for daily dining as well as special events such as weddings, bridal and baby showers, and private parties. Furthermore, the website lists activities such as bingo, painting and candle-making classes, live music with dancing, and more. For my husband and me, I made a reservation for lunch in an igloo. Our igloo was large enough to fit eight people and cost $50 plus foods and drinks. A larger "party dome" fits up to 14 people and has a fee of $75. The temperatures outside were very cold, but our igloo was kept warm by an electric fireplace and a zippered door. Throughout our meal, our waitress provided timely and friendly service. The Bistro menu listed shareables (e.g., pretzel sticks and charcuterie board), several smash burgers, several flatbreads, mains (e.g., fish and chips, cajun chicken pasta, and quinoa bowl), several salads, several handhelds (e.g., turkey melt, veggie wrap, and Italian panini), many sides, and a couple of desserts. Prices were moderate. (The menus for Sunday Brunch and a group Gathering differ.) The waitress first brought our Sweet Wine-Cookie Flight (4.5 stars), which consisted of the following pairs: Diamond Reo with Brown Sugar Pop Tart, Sweet Finley with Chocolate Salted Caramel, Riesling with Cookies and Cream, and Rose Cider with Strawberry Crunch. The wine glasses came in a wooden box, which was slightly too small, so I needed several minutes of time to carefully pull each wine glass out of the box. I, however, did enjoy the sweet flavors of the wines and cookies. Next our waitress brought out our shareable and two mains. The Hummus Plate (4.5 stars) consisted of fresh and tasty hummus, feta, olives, top seedz crackers, tomatoes, cucumbers, green and red peppers, carrots, celery, and tzatziki. My main course was Crab Cakes (4 stars) with a substituted side of salad. Two crab cakes were a decent size of 4 ounces each, but I would have preferred more crab meat. I liked the garlic aioli. My husband's main course was the Cali Burger (4 stars) with a side of fries. In a brioche bun, a beef patty was topped with fontina cheese, applewood-smoked bacon (which he would prefer be crispier), avocado, avocado ranch, lettuce, and pickles (which he commented were nicely crunchy and sweet-sour) (no tomato at his request). The total price for the flight, shareable, two mains, and a soda was $98 plus sales tax and tip (plus the earlier $50 fee for the igloo).

We were warmly greeted by Todd and Gina, the owners, who couldn't have been friendlier. Todd told us all about their wines, including the awards they've won, especially in California, and generously offered us the chance to try any of the wines at no cost. We started with the Gruner Veltliner, a bright, citrusy, and crisp wine. It was extremely dry compared to other Gruners we've had, which are usually more fruit-forward, but it was still quite enjoyable. Next, we tried the Riesling, which was also very good. My wife moved over to the semi-sweet side and tried the Traminette, which I eventually sampled after trying all the dry wines. We both really liked it. I then tried the Cabernet Franc, which was a medium-bodied wine with notes of raspberry, blueberry, and a light mocha oakiness--delicious! The Chambourcin was also quite good, without the typical bite or tartness. Lastly, the Flagship Red, a classic Bordeaux-style dry red, had a pleasant hint of pepper and was definitely a standout. Todd shared that they exclusively offer wines from Stony Run Vineyards in Breinigsville, PA, which has a wide selection. They're also planning to offer Old Fashioneds soon, as their winery includes a distillery, and they'll be featuring a "drink of the week" as well. What really sets this place apart, though, is Todd and Gina themselves. They're genuinely kind people who are dedicated to the community, and it was heartwarming to learn that they both served in the US Military--Todd in the Navy and Gina in the Air Force. We're already looking forward to our next visit when we're in the area again. Don't forget to thank them for their service when you stop by!
