What a disappointment!!! I heard so many great reviews about this place I just had to try it.First off the water had no ice and it was warm.Then the menu is very small and everything is ala cart.So you order a $65 steak and that's all you get.No salad,No potato all sides are extra.My mash potatoes were runny.My wife's filet was ordered well done it had red in it and was filled with fat.I had the strip steak and it too was filled with fat and hard to eat.Everything was extremely salty too and there were no pepper on table. My wife said it was the worse filet steak she ever had.Mine was big but all fat.Mac and cheese side dish which was extra was very good along with the bread was very good but all cost extra. If you want to do to a restaurant and spend a lot of money for a great meal I would avoid this place cause it totally sucks . read more

Fantastic dining experience at the Lab. We came here for my husband's birthday, and were not disappointed! We took advantage of the "drink samples" which was a personal experience with the owner, where we tried each and every drink they made in house.. this was free, and a great start to our dinner. Everything from appetizers to desserts was fantastic. High quality food made with compassion. The ambiance was a little wild, very dark.. interesting taste in decor (haha) but very classy, nonetheless. Portions were generous and the price was too. The menu lists foods such caesar salad, beef tartare, calamari, crab cake, chicken, pork chop, lamb, bison, and filet mignon. The drink menu lists cocktails, beers, and wines. For dinner for my husband and me, I made a reservation through OpenTable. The seating hostess and the waitress served us promptly and politely. Here are my ratings for what we ate: Chef's Cheese Board - 4.5 stars - This appetizer contained two cheeses, two cured meats, bread, and jelly. Prince Edward Island Mussels - 4.5 stars - This entree was a special. A large bowl of mussels was covered in Thai coconut red curry sauce, lime, mint, basil, and cilantro. On the side was a grilled baguette and garlic potatoes. Duck - 4 stars - The duck breast was cooked well, but my husband would have preferred a larger serving size. The waitress said that it was covered in a blueberry sauce, but it tasted like BBQ to us. After eating this entree, my husband still felt hungry. On the side were asparagus and risotto that had an OK flavor. Creme brûlée - 4.5 stars - This creme brûlée was topped with strawberries. Some liquid also sat on top, but the sugar was appropriately hard. Armen's Barrels Blackberry Sangria - 5 stars - This sangria was made from Armen's Barrels Concord wine, and it tasted delicious. The total price for our meal was $123 plus a tip. Customers may book private events at the restaurant. Customers may also book tours of the production facility to see the equipment and the process of making wines, vodkas, and brandies. read more

Love love love the Lab! We love having an upscale restaurant in Washington that competes with the fancy places in Pittsburgh. I've only been twice but both times have been 5 stars both times. Great food with great service. My husband got the mushroom burger and said it was one of the best he's ever had. Tuesday is their burger night and we're already planning to go back so we can each get a burger! I had dinner at this establishment. The ambience is really nice. They bottle their own wine here as well. The is service is outstanding. The food! Sooooo delicious. We had the Berkshire Pork Chops. Cooked to perfection. The accompanying sauces were fantastic. We also had the Brussel Sprouts which were also perfect. The salad we ordered was also delicious. We went up for their burger night which is Tuesday night from 4-6pm they also have a discount on some drink then too. They make all the cola and gins and some wine too. The have a complementary tasting of their wines, vodka and gins. Service was wonderful. Music was really great pick. They have pasta n night on Thursdays. The white chocolate liquor was amazing. The service was incredible. I didn't expect Mathias' impeccable service, but he was so polite and charming. He truly made the experience memorable. The ambiance was moody and dark, which I love. When I say dark, this place is extra dark. Great date spot. Make sure to make a reservation. I was told this place can fill up. My date and I visited on a Tuesday at 5:00 and we were one of three tables being used. It was fairly empty otherwise. I do wish the decorations on the walls were better. I didn't think a place coming off as more upscale would have a 4-part 3D canvas print of a wine bottle scene. Seems too tacky. I also wish that the inside of the barrels that make up the tables were painted or finished in some way rather than not. The food was good for the most part. I thought that the lamb was just okay. The steak was okay-meh for the price. The risotto and the poutine were flavorful and the best tasting of the dish. The Manhattan cocktail / drink was amazing. Parking lot is huge, free, plenty of space. Overall I think it is overpriced for the food but if it is locally sourced that's a main important factor for me to be willing to pay that price. read more

If you're not local, you might not know that this was a skating rink in its past life. Growing up hitting the rink as a kid, I found that fascinating. They have electric sliding doors from the main entry to the dinning area (the switch to exit was to the left of the door). We did note that they had some of the smallest tv's by the bar area. I'd say just remove them, as they take away from the ambience of the place. Our waitress, Mya, was great. We weren't feeling the cocktail menu but she saved us, and made my wife a blackberry mojito and me a Bourbon smash from Angels Envy which was refreshing. She was very open to feedback and genuinely just wanted to please us. We ordered the crispy brussel sprouts with bacon to start which were perfect. Main courses were the 14oz ribeye and the 8oz prime filet, both ordered medium rare. The prime filet was super tender, melting in your mouth almost, the ribeye was a little chewy. If you're torn, get the filet, even though it's smaller. Desert was the peanut butter pie, very good. From other site reviews it seems most get "sticker shock" when they get the bill and then are a lot harder on them for reviews, which I agree, if this was a $100 meal I'd give them 5 stars, but for twice that, it could use more refinement, and while the steak was cooked perfectly, Capital Grill is still my favorite. My wife also stated they needed a better cocktail menu for women, we got lucky with our waitress being a bartender but others may not be. Overall, we enjoyed our meal and service and its worth a try. read more

I have eaten here about 5 times and this was a very sad and embarrassing evening. We brought friends encouraged by our advice and good reviews from previous experiences. I'll comment on the positive first. The house Cabernet was good. The service was fairly good. The Atmosphere was good. The food was mediocre, with several dishes being poor, actually odd, which shows an inexperienced chef and a negligent owner, that was seated at the bar and did not walk around and speak to guests gaining feedback. He was counting money, lots of it right at the bar so I imagine he was happy. This place is expensive which doesn't bother me if the food is good. It wasn't They were out of creamed spinach Really? It was a 6:15 reservation ! We ordered the Brussels Sprouts The portion was enormous. And so was the amount of balsamic vinegar! They were cooked nicely but the vinegar was allot. The calamari was good. Fried nicely. The pork chop that my husband had was wonderful! Now, My friend ordered a filet with crab Oscar. His wife and I ordered ribeyes cooked mid rare with the butter. My friends filet was cooked to the proper temp but had no seasoning and the crab was a poor quality, not lump. Appeared shredded, like from a can. His mashed potatoes were good . I received my ribeye at the same time, with a heap of the crab Oscar that I didn't order. I considered scraping it off but there was too much and I was paying allot for that steak so I wanted it done properly. My other friend received her ribeye at the same time with the butter. And she felt the steak was cooked properly but no seasoning and said the butter tastes like thick mustard and scraped it off At this time our server arrived and I told her I did not want the crab on the steak and wanted a new steak. She took it and returned within a minute with the same steak with the crab hastily scraped off !!!! No one asked our table if there were any allergies. Had my friend got that the evening would have commenced at the ER !!!!!!!!! Severely allergic I told the server to take it back, I want a new steak without the crab and without the butter. At this time my husband also reminded the server that he didn't get his salad It came after or friends finished eating and that's when my properly cooked ribeye, with a glob of mustard butter and no seasonings arrived. Well isn't this place an absolute delight! My husband surprised me with a journey out to The LAB for our anniversary. This place had been on my list since I saw them a few months ago but we never really had the occasion to head over this way. Man am I disappointed that I hadn't gotten over here yet. The ambiance is dark and cozy and the food was some of the best I've had in recent memory. I loved the mushroom cheese that came in our charcuterie board and the nduja is something that I've wanted to try since seeing it featured in Chopped (haha). We also got the everything rolls with the beef tallow candle which was a very unique offering. I tried sturgeon. It was well seasoned and delicious. The potatoes and chantarelle mushrooms were a delicious accompaniment. My husband got the prime rib which was the daily special. Today is was mesquite smoked which added a different layer of flavor to the otherwise traditional taste. All in all, this place was awesome! Heather was also a phenomenal server. First time at this restaurant. The cocktails were very good and the service was exceptional. I had the salmon and risotto, and both were very flavorful and prepared nicely. Husband had a steak which he also enjoyed. I started with the cream mushroom soup while my hubby had the salad. The portions were nice. A new chef just started and even visited our table. Highly recommend! Note that the lighting is very dark and they don't serve complimentary dinner rolls which can be a turn off to some. I would suggest that they adjust the lighting a bit. read more

We were recommended to come visit this place by our friends. We arrived at 530 PM, our reservation was for 6. As we headed towards our table I noticed everything was very dark in this place. Not good for me who has reading glasses and that doesn't help in these situations. :) Our waiter arrived and provided us menus to get started. My wife had an amazing cocktail, I had two glasses of the wine that is made locally except for the Malbec. I had a steak which omg it was so damn delicious. Almost perfection. Prices here are very expensive. I've seen higher places. Interesting thing is the wine and whiskey is from other locations. However they have many wine barrels on hand. Makes me think they're starting off as a winery and over time they will serve their own wine. Overall great establishment but not a place I can visit weekly or monthly. Interesting place. The restaurant is very dark with a electric fireplace with multi color flames. Our table was an old barrel with a glass top and a small little lamp that you could touch to turn the light down or off. If you have long legs, the barrel required you too straddle. Our waitress threw the menus on the table and left. Also, one person did not get a menu. She popped back quickly and asked if we wanted a drink. We had not had time to really look at the wine list or if there were any cocktails listed. She did not mention any specials but we asked if they still had the Wednesday wine tasting and what it involved. She said yes to the wine tasting and said you get a French, Italian, German and something else and sped off. When she returned we asked what each of the wines are and the cost. Finally got the full explanation. Yea! A couple of use decided to try the wine tasting and others just ordered other drinks. On looking at the wine list, it has some nice diversity but the quality is lacking. Our tasting confirmed our thoughts on the selection of the wines available. For dinner we had a variety of items. We started with the charcuterie plate and we really enjoyed the different meats and cheeses. We did not get any explanation on what they were from the waitress. My lamb chop was severely overcooked and the dry rub completely overmatched the meat. Did enjoy the sweet potato/pinapple/jalapeno mint jam. The person who had the double bone pork chopped said that the meat was overcooked too. Another had the sea scallops and they were disappointed and did not finish. We did share a desert that was good. As someone who grew up bruising myself on the wooden floors of the Pancake Roller rink, I'd been dying to see how they turned it into a nice dining experience. Well... they have and I am over-joyed. The lamb with seasonal veg and risotto was out of this world. Lamb literally melted in my mouth. I've tried it many times and this was hands down, one of the VERY best. My family and I shared bites, I can say the chicken and pork, were just as exceptionally prepared, and seasoned perfectly. The ambiance on a weeknight was so lovely and quiet enough to have conversation. The staff were inviting and helpful, Chef even came out and spoke with us. The menu is small, but thought out and more importantly, it's done WELL; which that goes a long way. I honestly cannot sing high enough praise for The Lab, for an evening out. This was a really nice surprise! We booked this restaurant before seeing a concert at the casino. From the outside, it didn't look like much but the interior has a beautiful ambiance. The wine list was nice and we ordered a couple of glasses to start. We had the local charcuterie board, the roasted chicken and the hangar steak with chimmichurri. All were delicious. For dessert we had the "grandpa Norman" which was neoplolitan gelato, smoked peanuts, a merlot "magic shell" and Brandie's cherries. Yummy! This was an exquisite dinner. The foos here is always spot on and delicious! When you first pull up to the outside of the building you'll want to turn around and run however, go inside. Food is great and the ambiance is cute. Came as a group on a Friday evening. Our server Matthias was friendly, knowledgeable and fun. I ordered the Lab Burger - so juicy with candied bacon on top (which almost tasted like sweet beef jerky it was so flavorful!). Burger was on point and my friends ordered Mac & Cheese, crab cakes, asparagus and Brussels sprouts. We all got to try a bit and we all agreed it was delicious. Now for the food: Charred eggplant was boring and needs some spices or even balsamic vinegar, Brussel Sprouts were reasonably good but some were burnt. Whipped ricotta was also boring. Creme brulee was not as dense as others I have had and usually it is accompanied by raspberries and a few sprigs of mint. Meat was generally well cooked and fries were average. Prices are high considering the diversity of the menu and the overall quality. Atmosphere is industrial with this being a distillery/winery. I will be heading into Pusadee's Garden in Lawrenceville when I want an exceptional meal with good spices/flavors. read more

What an amazing evening we had at The Lab at Armens Barrels. We went to celebrate two anniversaries, my parents and ours. Our cocktails were refreshing and unique. We tried a few appetizers: the Chef's cheese board and fried calamari. The cheeses were a nice variety along with the cured meat. We did not love how the calamari was cooked though. It's a favorite of ours, especially when they include the tentacled ones (we fight over them!), but that evening they were rubbery. Now for the stars of the night...The elk was so amazingly tender and plated beautifully. I dreamt about it later that night and the next night. Usually I do not order chicken out at restaurants but knowing that the chicken marsala featured chicken from Farm57, I wanted to try it as I love that dish. It was tender, the mushrooms were bountiful and it, too, was plated beautifully. Everyone really enjoyed their meal and we capped it all off with creme brûlée for dessert. I appreciate that Chef David made his rounds and checked on guests. It was not a busy evening as it was mid week but I hope that is a usual thing because it's a really nice touch. We cannot wait to go back to the Lab- their attention to detail, styling of their food, well sourced quality ingredients and excellent service is refreshing. read more

This needs to be said. This place has quality food but the execution is a zero. The servers are untrained and have zero experience in fine dining. We spent 1300.00 for six of us and it felt like we were at the American Legion. The head bartender is very good at his craft and knows his way around a cocktail. As far as our meal, we all ordered appetizers, entrees and sides. They brought our sides out with the apps. Mind you we were the only table seated in the restaurant at 8pm on a Friday. The server brought our dinners out 15 minutes later not knowing who's player was whos. It was his only table mind you. He also brought out an extra dinner claiming it was one of ours. He was totally clueless. Sad to see this place so unorganized. On top all that they were out of multiple menu items while doing very little business. I'm sure they will be "under new management" or out of business (on the restaurant side) soon. It's a shame but in there obscure location. Armen is amazing! I stopped in for a bite to eat on a long drive and the owner was so helpful telling me about the restaurant and his products (that have won multiple awards). Bought several bottles of his award-winning vodka to give to friends to try and have told several friends that it's worth the drive (about 3 hours from us). This was my first experience at The Lab and it was a fantastic visit! We walked in and was immediately greeted by the sweetest Hostess. She offered if we would like to hangout at the bar first then go to our table or if we wanted to go straight to the table. We decided to check out the bar first. It was such a cool ambience and we were greeted right away by the bartender Cody. He gave us a fantastic description of the featured cocktail and offered to answer any questions on their cocktail list if needed. I decided to go with the Coachella drink and my partner went with the Manhattan. Cody gave us a fun fact about the bourbon. When we got our check before going to the table, there was a personal message written on the thank you booklet from a specific LAB staff member that was such a sweet and personal touch. The hostess located us at the bar and took us to our table. We were greeted immediately by our server, Kelsey who said she would be right with us in a super friendly demeanor. She took great care of us during our visit and gave us great descriptions on any questions we had on the dishes. We got the charcuterie board to start, followed by the lamb chops and sea scallops as our entrees. We both completely finished our entrees they were so good. While we were eating, a Chef came to each table including ours and asked us how the food was and if we needed anything. I felt that the staff truly cared for the guests to have a great and unique dining experience. Once we got our check we were delighted to see another thank you note by another staff member.
