We recently moved to PCB and have been trying the area restaurants with good ratings. We are foodies love checking out new places. We were not impressed at all dining here. Overpriced for less than mediocre food. I had the grouper imperial and it was awful. The olive oil it was prepared in tasted off and the filet was in a sea of the oil. The only thing good about the meal was the crab topping and the au gratin potatoes. My husband had the surf and turf...scallops were ok but the steak was ordered medium rare and came well done. The drink prices are outrageous. I'm glad we had gift certificates to cover our meal or we would have been even more disappointed wasting our money on a meal here when there are so many other very good restaurants in PCB. The service was very good though, it's not the servers fault the food is crappy. This will not be somewhere we would recommend to anyone. read more

Been going here for over 20 years and it's usually great. Tonight the potato was so cold it tasted like I'd gotten to go chilis and left it sitting on the counter for 2 hours. The side salad was just a tiny glob of dressing with some pink lettuce. The bathrooms had no trashcans and the wait took over 2 hours. The only redeeming quality was the view. read more

What happened here? This was a staple of ours; not anymore. The atmosphere was still great and traditional. The service was pretty good. The fish was TERRIBLE!! 3 of us ordered the Scamp, and it was not even edible. The chef must have poured the whole salt shaker on our three filets. WOW! 2 of the filets were burnt to a crisp. Red Snapper was ok, and the Mahi Mahi was the only plate at the table where we said it was decent. (Side item) Baked Potatoes were as dry as the sand on the beach. The salads were ok I guess. Returned to Captain Anderson's with fond memories from a visit years ago with positive expectations for my birthday with family..... Unfortunately, this visit was a massive disappointment regarding food and especially service. We ordered an ahi tuna appetizer which was the best food dish that we had period but following that were soggy watery stuffed mushrooms with rancid overly fishy mushy crab stuffing. Followed by the she crab soups that was the consistency of a thick GRAVY. It was floury, bland, other than heavy cream flavor, could not detect any hint of sherry in the soup. This really wasn't soup period it was thick disgusting gravy! The only part of the soup that wasn't bad was the tiny sprinkle of crab on top. If stock was used at all in the pot you could not detect or taste it period. The worst "soup" I have ever had anywhere. This would later make me and all of guests sick to their stomachs. Our server the entire time rushed each food course and never asked if we enjoyed anything. Never stayed around long enough to mention to her how bad the food was. She had little interest in us or in our experience there. My father's salad was very small. The crab stuffed shrimp had shells still stuck on as they were not cleaned thoroughly before preparation. I initially planned to have my birthday dessert there but opted for a dessert elsewhere. Especially after the server collected all of our plates before my husband was even close to being finished. Leaving him feeling rushed to finish. But everything was so rushed for us to be done and exit anyway. This was a horrible experience. Left me very sad on my birthday with family. After all the fond memories from years ago, this was not the same restaurant we used to love visiting. I also have to mention that we were not wished a goodnight or thanked when we exited. This place looks to have a lot of cool history, nice location on the water, and fresh seafood. I started off with the gumbo and it was underwhelming with almost no protein, it was the wrong color and and did not taste that good. Then, I got the seafood platter with the lobster. For the most part this was ok. The scallops were very good. The shrimp was solid. Fish was good, but the lobster was certainly overcooked. It was rubbery and chewy, plus there butter they provided almost didn't even taste like butter. Sort of a bummer given the price. For dessert, I got the Florentine cup, which I hoped would taste like a cookie I like very much... my hopes were dashed. The cream filling was not rich and didn't seem to match the dessert. Lastly, I won't knock this place necessarily for it, but it seems like most of PCB has a rather weak beer selection. read more

Stop! This is the place to go to. I've read and heard from this place and I can say it was AMAZING the food, and the service. Firstly Dennis S. Was our server. He has been here since 2007. Constantly checking on us and even gave us tremendous recommendations of food. Our appetizer was the Mediterranean ceviche. Super great and great size portion. Then our meals was surf and turf with sweet potatoes casserole and a whole snapper with gritts. Everything was delicious, fresh and great portions. Sorry for not posting any pictures but don't be afraid if you see people waiting outside, it moves really fast the lines plus the place is super big inside. I went here 7 years ago on a vacation with my family and THIS IS THE BEST RESTAURANT IN THE PANAMA CITY AREA - BAR NONE!!! Staff are very friendly too. I've been here on at least 2 or 3 occasions and best experience ever, better than ANY restaurant in the area. Definitely worth it! Absolutely awful experience. The restaurant was hot inside. My husband and I were both sweating the entire time. The food was terrible. Soup wasn't hot. Food was dry and portion sizes were very small. Our server was rude and did not clear off plates and extra cups until asked twice. There was a miscommunication with the price of soup. We understood that the she crab soup was a choice for the soup and salad. It was not clear that it was $4 extra per bowl. When I brought it to the managers attention, they both said it was my fault and would not take the extra charge off. read more

We absolutely loved Captain Anderson's! We loved all their soups, the one i tried was the seafood gumbo. It was flavorful with a little bit of a kick. Jumbo grilled shrimp was also delicious! I am honestly SO disappointed they changed management. It was very obvious from the moment we walked in. The bread they have ALWAYS had is no more, and instead you get a plain tastless rock hard bread. The menu got WAY more expensive for much crappier tasting food. Went here for dinner on Tuesday night and the wait was only about 20 min. They were very busy but service was great! Karim (if i'm remembering correctly, sorry if i'm not) was so helpful and attentive of our table! Ordered the calamari for appetizer and it was served with a marinara sauce which was not good but the calamari was okay. Also had complimentary hush puppies which so good! They were golden brown, and crispy yet soft. The food came out pretty quick, was pretty good and had good portions. We had the Lump crab cakes, filet of snapper and 8oz filet mignon (not pictured). David W is a very very slow and bad sever. He served everyone around us fast because he didn't think we would tip. well ... we didn't he was very slow with us and we had to constantly ask other servers for things. if you come here and get him as a sever make sure you either ask for a different one or leave. every time we asked for something he gave a dirty look. read more

the ambiance gets you ready to eat some great food. The waiters are very good getting food out quick. Unfortunately that was the only positive things I could post. The calamari was inedible couldn't chew it. The soup was bland. The salad was ok. Crab cakes dinner were sent out burnt no exaggeration. the kids chicken fingers burnt. So much food being put out the grease was old. Fried shrimp rubber over cooked. Shrimp stuffed with crab mush. Tasted like it came out of a box. The steak dinner terrible could not chew it. The roll and hush puppies ok. Dropping $300.00 on this meal was upsetting. We did not complain but we did send back the calamari. Granddaughter had the linguine with shrimp and it was the only good meal. We will not go back. read more

The food here is decent, not spectacular, so I would say it's deserving of the three and a half star average. The atmosphere is loud and the view of the marina in the "dockside" section of the restaurant was disappointing and not worthy of the wait. I had the seafood platter which included a stuffed lobster, stuffed crab, scallops, fish, and shrimp. It was a lot of food and mostly good. The lobster was dry though. I subbed soup of the day for she crab soup. I was really looking forward to it, but it was much too heavy and rich. It was so thick that it was more like a gravy and it filled me up so much. I think I would have enjoyed my meal more without that filler. I don't like that the sides aren't listed on the menu because "they change so much" apparently. In fact, they changed so quickly that we ordered collard greens and she brought out broccoli. We all agreed the bread was really good. There weren't any craft beers, the on tap house beer was bad and the wine selection was mostly overpriced. We did find a nice bottle of Pino Grigio that was affordable, but that was it. The whole pompano had the eyeballs removed and our friends didn't like that because they actually eat the eyeballs. My husband enjoyed his stuffed grouper, but felt it was overpriced. We probably won't return. There are better options in the area and while I enjoyed my dinner, the rest of our party was underwhelmed. read more

I have been going to Capt Andersons for 40+ years. Never ONCE had a bad experience. This year I went for my birthday 10/22. We ordered a couple appetizers. The stuffed mushroom and the fried calamari. The mushrooms were fine but the calamari was like chewing on a tire. For the entree, I ordered the stuffed grouper and my friend had the grilled shrimp. As SOON as she sat the grouper down, I got a whiff of something hideous but then I couldn't smell it anymore. I picked one tiny bite off the end of the grouper and it tasted really bad. So, trying to give the benefit of the doubt, I got a bite of the thicker part of the fish, put it on my mouth, then immediately spit it put. My friend tried it too with the same result. The fish was rotten. They replaced it with jumbo sea scallops (at my request). They were enormous. I cut the first one in half and it was fine. I cut the 2nd one in half, ate it and it was completely cold and raw in the middle. They "offered" to put them back in the broiler for a few minutes then brought them back. I couldn't eat any of them. I didn't even want seafood. Since it was was my birthday, the (very sweet) waitress said " you get a free piece of Fued Cake. I had that last year and it was extremely dry and almost like eating a cardboard box. I asked about the price comparison between the piece of cake vs one slice of the key lime pie. The pie was about 3.00 cheaper. I asked if we couldn't just get a slice of pie instead of the cake. Nope. They won't let you do that. (Which shocked me that they will give you a more expensive dessert for free, but not the cheaper one). God love my friend's heart. She paid the tab on a terrible dinner and we usually go there 2-4 times during our 2 week stay at the beach but not this time. Never saw a manager for UNDERCOOKED SEAFOOD. I won't go back. And how sad that it used to be THE PLACE TO GO. Nope... not anymore. Ambiance was great, our waitress was darling and very apologetic but....nope never again. read more

Extremely busy place. We waited about 45 minutes for a table but it was so worth it. The staff was great and the food was fantastic. Even with the music and noise of a busy place, I could still have a conversation with my husband. We were fortunate to get a window seat overlooking several large boat and the marina. read more

Our party of 8 enjoyed a business dinner here. They won't seat you until your entire party arrives, so we waited by the bar. The restaurant itself is spacious, and the ambiance is nice for a more formal dinner. Drinks were strong snd the staff were all friendly. For dinner, they sat us at a round table, which was great for conversation with such a large group. I ordered the shrimp and grits per our server's recommendation, and it did not disappoint. It was very flavorful, the shrimp were a huge size, and I enjoyed every bite. Probably my favorite meal on the trip. The only bummer was that they do close at 9, so they started shutting down while we were still eating. My coworker got the seafood gumbo and said he only had 2 pieces of seafood in it. Captain Anderson's is amazing! We've never had a bad experience or a less than perfect meal there and we go every time we are in Panama City Beach. From the hush puppies, (that are the best I've ever had) to the rolls and the delicious Pina Colada's in the cute take home daiquiri glasses! All perfection! I had the 7oz filet that with a Greek salad and baked potato, my mother in law had the churrasco streak with fries and both of my kids had the grilled cheese. They were all so delicious we didn't even have enough for a take home box and that's speaks volumes! SO SO GOOD! If you're in the area, you have to try it out!! I have been coming to Capt. Andersons since I was a child. It was an elegant treat that we would have when we visited PCB yearly. The inside is exquisitely decorated and nice. Huge dining rooms. Large bay windows that look out into the pier. Our waitress was Tina. She seemed to be having a bad day. She was not friendly and I think she smiled once. She was abrasive and I was surprised when she told me she's been there for over 15 years. I wouldn't want her as a server again if we go back. We were told the sides were new potatoes, collard greens, scalloped potatoes and a baked potato (which is a $3 up charge). I ordered "crab fingers" I believe is what it was called and scalloped potatoes. Crab was cooked in butter and brought to me that way. They used to serve crab legs so I was disappointed that wasn't an option. Other people in my party ordered grouper and shrimp. My son ordered the kids cheeseburger and it was large like an adults! When Tina brought out our food the informed us that they were out of scalloped potatoes so she brought new potatoes. Something you should know is that we were there at 445. They don't open til 430. So either someone didn't prep enough scalloped potatoes or someone didn't order enough ingredients. Either way-I was annoyed because we came early and I think it's unacceptable to run out of menu items so quickly. You'd think that would happen at 7 or 8. The food and service was not what it used to be. I was disappointed. My party agreed it's not the same. They still have over 10 desserts to choose from so we got 3 different ones. They were great but I'm not going to spend a hefty amount of money on an okay meal for a great dessert. They have a walk up counter in the gift shop where you can purchase to go desserts. Loved the atmosphere. It felt like a 70's tourist place. Very large and well organized. My husband and I split the seafood platter, way too much food for one person. They brought the salad which we split by putting half on one of the bread plates. The delivered the entree with one additional plate which we divided up the meal. When our bill came we were charged $3.00 to share a meal. We asked 4 different people why, 2 said the waitress could take it off. The waitress said she would ask and came back and said she couldn't do anything. For $3.00 we were willing to pay but wanted an explanation. We asked the manager on our way out, she said it was for the bead and splitting the meal, I asked how many pieces of bread were brought gorc2 people she said 3. We received 2 pieces of bread. Walking up, the wait can look intimidating. We were sat within 20 mins. We got the peel and eat shrimp appetizer that was outstanding. For my main plate I got the jumbo scallops-- absolutely amazing and worth the $. My husband got the broiled seafood platter. It was good EXCEPT the lobster was over cooked and chewy. Very large restaurant and looks nice, right on the Marina. However was very disappointed in the service and food. Tried the flounder and the seafood basket with stuffed blue crab, shrimp, gulf scallops, grouper and hush puppies with mashed potato side (only because they ran out of red potato and server did not check what we wanted yo change our side to). Grouper and shrimp were nice but everything else not. Missed out on lobster because our waiter spoke so quietly that we could barely hear and not sure if that option was even asked of us. Could not eat the stuffed crabs at all. Unfortunately would not come back here. read more

Was recommended to us from a friend. Went early and had to wait (busy season) which is never fun but they had great sitting areas enough for everyone to wait, gift shop, and by the marina. Stuffed mushrooms, stuffed shrimp and planked salmon were all fabulous. Dessert as well was great. Service was good too. Plan on going back again this year it was all of our favorites. Fairly expensive but worth it. read more
