I like this place! The people are very friendly and the food is good! You must try a cup their gumbo. It's nothing fancy, but its very good! The first time I went there I had a very reasonably priced half Poboy and cup of gumbo. Next visit I ordered cat fish and shrimp and a bowl of gumbo. On each occasion the food was cooked to perfection and was served piping hot. The place doesn't look like much inside, but they can be counted on for a good flavorful meal. Ate here earlier today, great food! Reasonably priced and good portions. Staff was on point, frequently checking up on us. Only real issues were the amount of breading on some of the food and there was food on the floor (from a recent customer's child, staff hadn't gotten to cleaning it up yet). This place was delicious! The combo platter was so good and fresh. Everything on it was fresh. The fish was perfectly fried with a crunchy crust and soft, moist meat. This is one of those places that you would turn around and walk away from if it were not rated so highly in Yelp. We loved the food. Our server, Trey, was awesome. My wife got the seafood gumbo and said it was the best she ever had. The stuffed flounder she said was good. I had the sausage and chicken gumbo. It was great. what a disappointed, I have always like this place (northwest freeway, Houston). But don't think I'll be back to any of captain bennys. I ordered catfish fillets, but was told it wasn't really catfish but cheap white fish. ordered the whole fish instead. Menu should say it isn't real catfish. After our meal, we sat there with dirty dishes in front of us. Our waitress didn't start removing our dishes until we asked for the check. Came here on Sunday around 4, and it was pretty packed. I broke down my experience to the main things I look for in a restaurant. Service: I was afraid it would be on the slow side, but our waitress was prompt and attentive. Excellent for a full house! Atmosphere: It's not meant to be fancy, and it's a little worn down but the restaurant shaped as a boat was charming. I was sitting outside while it was raining and the umbrellas were accommodating enough to keep us dry. Drinks: I got the michelada with Dos XX. Honestly the best I've tried so far. Would definitely go back just for that when I have the craving. Food: Gumbo was delicious and flavorful. I also had the Parmesan baked oysters. Worst Customer Service I have ever received there. There was a open dirty table and my boyfriend went to ask the waitress if it was available, she didn't even answer she just grunted. Than we just sat down and she came and got a beer bucket and a empty bottle off the table with a pist off face and didn't even clean the table. We sat there and no one ever came to get our drink order or offered to clean the table so we just left. We've been there when it's crazy busy and receive excellent customer service but today it was not even busy... if you go I suggest sit at the bar customer service at the bar 10x better! read more

This place is so so so good I can't ever resist a craving for it... and luckily I don't have to because its so cheap! especially if I hurry over right after work for "buck-off" happy hour when already low prices are a buck lower. The best things to try: the specials are always the best deal if you want a lot of food... when they have a collosal shrimp special you MUST go cause you cant get jumbo shrimp any more delicious and any less expensive even in the grocery store! My favorite things are the oysters (of course), the broiled platter, hush puppies, and the micheladas. They make them SO GOOD here you will think you're on the beach in Mexico. I have been living down the street from captain Benny's for about 20 years now and only came to dine in twice. Once was when I was a mere toddler and the second time was yesterday. AH-MAZING. My friend and I had their baked oysters Benny style. Came out hot and appetizing. Went to this place on a Friday with two friends. The waitress was upset that we had three separate tickets. Our appetizer or water didn't make it to our tables till 30 minutes later. I will have to say that at a glance this place will look like no big deal. A hole in the wall as a matter of fact. You could drive by it and look at it and say "ehhh" but once you go in and eat, you will be in heaven. Every time I am in town, this is where I ask to be taken to straight from the airport. The seafood gumbo is to die for and the oysters are fresh, the jumbo shrimp are delicious. I am not at all a huge breaded shrimp type of a person, but their breaded shrimp and breaded oysters are so lightly battered, they are just super yummy in your mouth! And on top of it all... it is so dirt cheap, you will walk out stuffed with seafood and saying WOW! If you have not tried this place, I truly would recommend it.
