The kind gentleman in the phone said "we're running a special. Buy one dozen get a pound of shrimp free". Naturally, I went with them deal. The pick up time was 5pm on a Thursday. It was around 4:15 when I called. I got there right at 5, the crabs were ready the shrimp were not. They took an additional 35 minutes (probably because of the special they were running). Because of the wait, when I got home, my crabs were more than lukewarm and needed to be reheated. They turned out great! I'd visit again I wouldn't get the shrimp, nothing significant, they were frozen, thawed then steamed. read more

Kinda pricey but always fat tasty crabs. The people are friendly and courteous and order is ready on time.

I stopped there on Wednesday afternoon about 4pm. Parking was available on the lot and at the curb. The store was clean and the lady at the counter was friendly and polite. I inquired about soft crabs and only whales were in stock, cleaned and frozen. I was pleased with the price, which was well below what a nearby grocery chain was charging for the smaller jumbo size. I sautéed one last night for dinner and was quite satisfied with the size, which is humongous compared to what you might get at a restaurant. The meat was sweet and plentiful, I will go back again. I recommend this place for its outstanding value, quality, cleanliness and service. read more

If you drive by too fast, you'll miss this little crab shack and that'd be a bummer because their crabs were some of my favorites from Summer, 2019. Too often, crab shacks will charge Large / extra large prices for medium / small sized crabs. Sometimes you'll pay premium prices for dried out or mushy, ammonia reeking crabs mixed in with a bunch. This is NOT at all the experience with Capt. Dick's. Theirs were true to size, freshly steamed with a perfect cook, and all heavy and full with plump and juicy leg and claw meat. Capt. Dick's does their seasoning more peppery / spicy than salty which is what I like but if you're not a fan of a little heat, I would recommend asking for light seasoning or seasoning on the side. Their prices are fair and they are family owned and operated by nice people. They are only open seasonally which I appreciate, as opposed to having crabs shipped from out of state, year round. I love my Maryland TRUE BLUES! I would recommend them for your no frills, crab carry out needs. read more

I have patronized Captain Dicks for years. Three times this season I have bought the largest crabs and every time a majority are paper shells. I bought 2 Whale soft crabs for 8.00 a piece and was aware they were frozen but they were definitely not whales, they were females and uncleaned. Don't judge by the pictures. If you are looking for a go to place to get your steamed Maryland crabs, look no further! I am a Marylander born and raised, and I've always struggled to find a reliable place to get steamed crabs to pick...calling place to place to see who has them in (especially during peak demand times). After discovering Capt Dicks just a couple of years ago, they are always my first call. You can call in your order days or hours in advance, for pick up whenever you'd like. I recommend calling the day before, but even hours ahead will work too, as long as the demand isn't too high. Price is extremely fair compared to what you will find in the area. read more

Luckily they have a few chairs available for that wait time. It's better to do yourself a favor and call in your order in advance to avoid the wait. Also, if you're not into a lot of salt, this may not be for you. In addition to ordering a dozen crab, I also ordered a pound of shrimp. I kinda loved the shrimp and the tasty sauce. I wish the shells were removed, but oh well. I could see myself simply ordering the shrimp only one day if in the area and not quite in the mood or willing to spend for a full crab experience. Just discovered this gem in Halethorpe. Ordered half a bushel of crabs (medium to large), crab pretzel, corn on he cob, and 3 lbs of steamed shrimp (xl) for a friend's birthday celebration, and the crabs were heavy and delicious. Crab pretzel was devoured by everyone at the party. Corn was sweet and juicy. Shrimp was well seasoned and steamed to perfection. This is the first time I ordered crabs from this establishment. I splurged on a half dozen of XLs. My son picked up the order so I can't comment on the restaurant itself....only the crabs. I have been eating crabs once or twice a week all summer. These were by far the best that I have eaten. They were big, fat and full and delicious! I could only eat a few as they were so filling.. My absolute favorite place to get crabs! My family and I have been coming here for years. If you want crabs from here, make sure to order at least a couple days in advance, especially if you plan to pick up on the weekends and/or on a holiday. Also, the jumbo and XL male crabs sell very quickly over the weekend. Make sure to arrive on time! They will gladly sell your order to someone else if you come too late. As for the quality of the crabs, they are good and meaty. I personally don't recommend the jumbo, as the XL ones seem to be just as meaty. Might as well save a few dollars if you can. A dozen jumbo males is $90, and a dozen XL males is $80. Don't forget your ears of corn, which are only a $1 each! read more

I was treated so unkind and disrespected at this establishment. Not a professional atmosphere. I spent over $400 on crabs and shrimp at this place and I was a little late picking them up. I had an entire party to set up for and I was busy, that's why I was late. But looking back, I felt as though I was giving my money to someone who did not deserve it, at all, based on her attitude. She degraded me in front of her staff by saying things like "I had to keep rotating them out for you, that's not fair to me"... I mean, who says things like that to someone who is spending so much money at your establishment. I ordered extra large Male crabs, a full dozen, and the crabs were barily mediums. They were gross, soggy and hallow. This was the worst expeirance in crab buying I have ever had. I do a large crab feast every year for my neighborhood, and I will NEVER go back here, even if she paid me. Don't bother wasting your time or money.
