Captain Juel's is on the water and there's a lot going on in the immediate vicinity. This place has a cool vibe and it's spacious inside. You can sit outside and enjoy the views and all the boats etc going by too but we sat in as it's way too hot out. Started with the shrimp app topped with crab and a drizzle of hollandaise. This was yummy! Nicely seasoned with something like o bay and it was just right. The catch of the day was grouper as now's the time to catch it. We ordered a grilled grouper sandwich and I opted for a side salad. The fish was perfectly grilled and full of flavor. The star of the meal was the roumalade that it came with. Went on their website before we left for restaurant to see "Happy Hour" specials. Also looked at their AD in locals-Sand Dollars June 2026 magazine. Arrived at the restaurant and the H/Hour menu was completely different (1/2 the amount of items or less) and the prices were NOT what was advertised on their website/Sand dollars for either the food or drinks (higher$). Example in Sand Dollars and on their website they advertise "craft draft beer" on Happy Hour for $4.25. I was charged $6. Told not $4.25 anymore but $1 off your draft. Funny because in the Sand Dollars June 2026 ad they advertise new items-lower prices....??? Total B/S... I am a local and after this will not be back. A really nice seafood restaurant. It's location is so nice right by the water In Little River. Staff was very friendly and accommodating to us. We had two sip and sample parties for our Neora company. The last party we had was an ugly sweater party. Drinks were so good. They had mixed frozen drinks which I enjoyed and really good prices and an extensive memory from seafood to appetizers that were really good .. they also had sangria that was amazing. very disappointed in this visit - had come to this restaurant in the past and everything was always good. this experience was not good at all - kitchen very very slow, all food came out at different times and ice cold. should have known when the restaurant was empty at 6:15 pm. and it took over an hour to start getting our meals. our waitress was very nice and really good, she felt horrible about the experience and understood why we were upset. After hours of deep sea fishing, we were starved and wanted something good to eat. I was scrolling for restaraunts nearby when this one appeared. The food was great! Trigger fish was catch of the day, which waiter recommended. I had never eaten that type of fish before but it is now one of my fave's. Fries were hot and seasoned well. Salad was crisp, and oysters tasted even better than the ones I had eaten in New Orleans. Our male waiter was excellent. He was very attentive. He checked on us several times and when we requested items he returned quickly. I Just wish I could remember his name. It had the typical seafood restaurant decor. How fitting to enjoy lunch at Hurricane Juel's while Tropical Storm Debby was passing over us. The portion sizes were generous and the food tasty. I think the service was as good as it could be for their lack of staff at the time. Hush puppies were a surprise (sorry, forgot to take a pic) and pretty good! I also got a side of vegetables (probably should have tried the wasabi slaw - will do next time). Kids at the lunch had their meals served on frisbees they could take home. The table had salads with salmon, salads with chicken, a cheeseburger, kids had chicken tenders and grilled cheese. All looked great - generous portions reasonably priced. The location and atmosphere were spot on for the restaurant. Parking was about 50 yards away, and for some reason, they had a tip bucket at the entrance to the park lot for the restaurant. We gave them a Jeep duck as a tip because we weren't sure what else they were expecting from their customers. You have the option to be seated indoors or outdoors, with additional seating on the roof or in a beer garden. We sat indoors with a decent view of the Intercoastal waterway. They sat us down and brought some hush puppy balls and cinnamon butter. These were a little oily from the deep fryer, however, they were sweet and tasted like little donuts. Still amazing hush puppies! We started off with a stuffed shrimp appetizer, which was great. I tried to cut them in half at first, but the stuffed crab fell off, so I ended up grabbing them by the tail and ate them whole. They were very good. I had the blackened chicken wrap with Caesar dressing and sweet potato fries (no up-charge for sweet potato fries). Both were very good, and I ended up taking some of the fries home because they gave me more than I could eat after munching on the hush puppies and shrimp. My wife ordered the salmon BLT with sweet potato waffle fries. The salmon was a large cut and grilled perfectly for her. She, too, was unable to finish her fries due to eating the hush puppies and a few pieces of stuffed shrimp. We came later on a Saturday night for the first time. We were told they had a half hour wait which wasn't a big deal. They had a lot of tables open but they also had a bunch of big groups and we weren't in a rush. We went over to the bar and had some beers and a martini. The martini was excellent and we enjoyed the beer selection. When we sat down there were so many of the small plate appetizers that looked amazing that we decided to just order a variety. Our server was super nice, just a little quiet and she helped us out with some suggestions. The crab cake was probably the lowest rated of the ones we got but still good, they had a little kick. I was hesitant to leave a full review as we didn't have a full dinner experience here, but I will leave feedback with what we did. We used to come here years ago before it was remodeled and it was always one of our favorite places for sushi. They have done an amazing job remodeling. It's bright, clean, and there is a ton of outdoor seating (with and w/out a view of the water). That being said - we came for sushi and found out they don't serve it on Sundays. Bummer, but we agreed to have a drink and and app since we made the trip. My friend and I ordered a Pinot Grigio and she was served at least an ounce or less of wine than me (see photo). Not a big deal, but at least serve it evenly at the same table :) They served us hush puppies upon seating which was delicious w the honey butter and a nice welcoming gesture. Asked for another bowl, but was charged $3. We assumed that was the case, but waitress should mention it. We ordered the she-crab soup and it was really good. Loaded w crab (and a few shells). We then ordered the blackened fish bites. Never did figure our what kind of fish it was, but it was a little bland. Def didn't have that blackened taste to it. We didn't even finish. We debated splitting the Mahi dinner until we saw that there is an $8 up-charge to split a dinner. Made no sense to me. If I'm not hungry enough for a full meal and want to split it w my friend - why am I being charged $8 for the same portion? Hostess with the mostest, ..... attitude! As a local, we are out ALL YEAR dining local. No chains! We visit Hurricane Jules about 2 times a month. We again met friends last night there. We always head to "the bar area," and have since current owners changed from the original Captain Jules . Service has been spotty, but again we continue to go to support local and know that staffing has been an area problem since COVID. Last night.... After sitting in the exact same place we sat 3 weeks ago, (with the same friends) and waited 10 mins without being acknowledged, the hostess, walked over and I Quote, " did y'all want to sit at the bar or a table?"... we were confused because we were already sitting at a table. When we said we want to sit here, she slammed menus and silverware on the table and walked away. .... If their policy has changed? Or maybe in the past we have just been treated "special" and not scolded, that could have been said or explained. ....... We walked out. It was a hard decision because this restaurant has been one of our favorites for over 12 years. Tourist season is coming to an end, but locals are here year round. This restaurant was more than half empty. ..... happy to say we spent our money next door.... And BTW, it's local too!!! read more

Do not go here. Very disappointing . I tried to send this to a manager but the email address posted is not valid or real on their website. Dear manager / owner : I am sure you received several complaints tonight but I wanted to let you know that if it was not for the nice bus boys and wait staff outside this evening - we would have walked out. There were also some very lovely and nice couples around us as well on the outside seating area. The wait staff and bus boys were trying the best they could and were very apologetic to everyone. Most people around us were waiting almost 2 hrs for their food and very disappointed . When they did get their orders Several received wrong items. I understand you have recently re opened due to renovation and that can be very stressful . I wanted to make sure that as the owner you got the information tonight of what went down so you could improve to meet that wonderful reputation you have as an establishment from 1940's. The wait staff and bus boys were not a problem. I truly believe that a manager should have just shut the kitchen down earlier this evening with the problems that were going on- internally - short staffing or etc. Experienced and mature patrons would definitely understood and been ok with the honesty rather than the kitchen staff trying to fake it to make it .. and make it worse. Then it became very very late to where as patrons we could not go anywhere else for dinner- except drive thru. I was informed that you were only open till 9pm when I called for reservation for my fiancé birthday . I made an 8pm reservation as suggested so that we could get a table by the water. We are from Pittsburgh PA and staying about 30 minutes south of your restaurant . Your establishment was highly recommended. But honestly when we showed up for our table of 2 reservation - outside - your staff was letting people know the kitchen was at least 40 minutes behind .. a manager should have just called us earlier and canceled our reservation. I would have understood. I felt very bad for the wait staff and bus boys this evening . You can see the stress and embarrassment on their faces. They kept apologizing to everyone and also seemed exhausted. There appeared to be no AC inside ? We originally ordered: Fried calamari ( it never came ? Got lost?) Capt Jule sushi roll ( came very quick and honestly we felt guilty watching all the other guests around us complain they had been waiting 1.5hrs for food) . It was ok. Then we waited more than an hour for Stuffed flounder ( that was raw inside and I returned ) Crab cake sandwich ( that was ok but horrible presentation) It was also delivered about 10 minutes before the flounder. I was offered to another flounder order but I did not want to wait as it was clear you were closed and it was getting later . I also didn't trust your kitchen staff. My fiancé did not finish his crab sandwich . Here are the photos of the food and receipt . I asked to speak to a manager but told no one was around. Then a man did speak to us but was flustered and upset and overly exhausted that I thought he was going to pass out from the heat. . I was really looking forward to a nice local meal and hope that maybe if we ever re visit Myrtle beach your establishment is as nice internally in the kitchen as it looks externally. Recommendation when dining at Hurricane Juel in Little River, request a full menu without missing pages. Ask for plastic cups for all people in your party if you would like water from the pitcher supplied by the waitress. Order appetizers and wait to be delivered BEFORE ordering your meal. Request that all dinners be delivered at the same time. DO NOT speak to manager as she will try to make you feel inferior and embarrassed in front of your party when you are requesting your meal before the check had been delivered and after your guests have finished their food.
