Looked at yelp last night to find a place we hadn't tried in Islamorada before. Captain Craig's looked interesting, was a little hesitant after reading Mr Alfred's review but decided to go anyway. A little more hesitation occurred when we arrived, it didnt look busy but hey, it was a Sunday night. We tried the fish tacos, and shrimp tacos, the shrimp tacos not on menu but they adapted. Both were excellent with plenty of flavor, will definitely go back again. Hope they get the draft beers working soon. read more

This little gem of a place is located in Islamorada. We ordered a fried snapper, a mixed seafood basket and I ordered captain Craig's hogfish that was out of this world! Captain Craig's is hands-down the best restaurant in the Upper Keys. It took on new ownership in 2019 and is now a family-owned and ran establishment. You can see in the quality of the food and service that these people sincerely care to deliver the best-possible dining experience. The whole restaurant has been completely over-hauled and gives off a light and airy beach vibe. They've also constructed an outdoor area which gives off a romantic ambiance for dining. Their menu encompasses typical Keys fare to include a vast seafood selection of appetizers but also includes land fare for those whom don't care for fish. I've used Captain Craig's to cater my son's birthday and their appetizers alone are to die for. Specifically, the shrimp kaboom, conch fritters and dragon cauliflower are divine. WOW what an awesome place to eat lunch or dinner Had to try the famous fish sandwich first of all the wife also went for it as well. It was fabulous as advertised We also tried the stone crab chowder and it was out of this world delicious. We'll be going back for dinner tonight. The staff was wonderful as well very accommodating and happy. Any person that has a problem eating there must certainly have a screw or two missing. We plan to visit the restaurant probably another 10 times in the next month. I'm certainly going to try out several more entree's. Also I forgot to mention was that the French Fries were outstanding basic real fries not coated in any secret seasoning or fried in nasty grease that had fish onion rings and other crap fried in it that's really important to us. A wonderful little spot with delicious food! We weren't expecting much but, we got a wonderful surprise. We started off with conch fritters, a staple in these parts. My husband ordered crab chowder... I wasn't sure of it and thought I'd taste his. Jill, our waitress (who was amazing) brought an extra spoon. One bite and I was hooked. Now, I was a little afraid I wouldn't be able to eat my sandwich. I had chosen the French dip while my husband had the Famous Fish Sandwich, which he loved. Had the Stone Crab Chowder (excellent) Conch Fritters, very tasty and my wife had the French Dip with grilled cauliflower while I had the Fish Sandwich (Grouper) which was very good. This place pleasantly surprised us! Doesn't look like much on the outside or inside, but the food and the service was outstanding! I'm usually weary of seafood because of bad experiences I've had with bad seafood, but this place is different. The seafood here is very fresh and you can taste it in every dish (no fishy taste). I ordered the catch of the day which was Mahi Mahi. Our waitress, Tabitha, recommended I get it Captain Style. She was spot on with her recommendation. The Mahi Mahi was so fresh, and the breading on the outside, along with the sauce, made the dish perfect. The calamari and shrimp cocktail was fresh and delicious. My kids enjoyed the Caesar salad and their key lime tacos, they were tasty. The coconut crusted hog fish, was probably the only dish that wasn't great, it was good, but not great. The coconut crust was delicious, but the hog fish itself was dry. The mango chutney that it came with definitely helped the fish and made it enjoyable. They also gave us complimentary bread, made fresh in-house. Tabitha, our server, was also nice, friendly, and very helpful. Definitely a place to check out if you're in the Keys. read more

Found out that this place is a favorite of the locals so my coworker and I tried it out for dinner. This restaurant doesn't look like much from the outside but is neat and clean inside. Service was very good - both waitresses were friendly and helpful. So, first the good - the Key Lime tacos were very good for a light dinner and the Hogfish special, which was sautéed with a light Panko breadcrumb coating, was excellent! Big portion, too! Now the "not so good". The $11 conch fritters were ok, but very tough and chewy. There were parts that I couldn't chew.... The homemade Key Lime pie with the meringue topping was extremely good and very rich, however, it's priced at $8 a slice! Because of that, I almost rated Captain Craig's at 3 stars but the overall quality of the entrees, as well as the service was very good. read more

First, ignore the bad review by "Vivian M," it's obviously posted by a competitor to be a jerk. Second, the food and service are excellent. This is a true family-owned and operated hidden gem in the Keys. My husband and I are visiting they Keys for our annual anniversary trip (we got married down here 6 yrs ago), and we are BIG TIME food snobs. We've been going to the best of the best in Key West and Islamorada. Tonight, our friend and local Key Largo resident recommended this place, and we are SO glad we took his suggestion. The Kaboom shrimp and the calamari Italian style are awesome starters. We had the fresh catch hogfish and yellowtail prepared Captains Style. So freaking good. Our friend had the Key Lime Shrimp Pasta. He ate it so fast and with such gusto, I didn't even get a chance to take a pic for this review (if that tells you something). Had the fried shrimp basket (double shrimp) and it was fantastic. Shrimp was plump, juicy and fried to perfection. Shrimp is locally sourced, per our server. Others in our table ordered the shrimp poboy and calamari basket. The bread on the shrimp pony was fresh, soft and a little chewy (how I like it) and had fresh pico de gallo and romelaid. Delicious! The calamari was also fried to perfection. Tender, lightly breaded, and well seasoned. The restaurant and facilities is newly done and very clean.
