Top tier service and food. Our server was well versed in what vegan was and was able to let me know that the tofu dish I wanted had fish sauce in it but she can ensure they remove it - this was reflected on my receipt and the food was delicious. The vegetables were fresh. I also got a ginger salad and miso soup. The miso soup was one of the best I have had in a while. I was hoping the Thai tea could be made vegan and she said yes they just won't add milk. The Thai tea was authentic and delicious. My friend got curry and was really happy with her food too. Our server was from Thailand and we talked a long time with her about her experience working on a cruise boat and learning about what vegan is. She was so kind and also shared that cha dam yen is common in her country and how she prefers her Thai tea ( Thai tea without milk ). Next time I am in the area I will be back. The restaurant was small but ambiance was nice.

We came here for dinner tonight. The place is set back in a strip mall and can use a little tlc as it looks a little run-down. We ordered some krab rangoon which could've used more filling. I got the pineapple fried rice which tasted good but was lacking pineapple, shrimp and chicken. Also, we ordered the pho noodle soup with beef, which was not the worst and not the best we ever had. We also ordered a Thai ice tea which tasted good. The service was good.

With not many Thai restaurant or sushi options around here so this place is just ok. Nice they offer conch sushi since most places don't. Huge sushi rolls with at least 10 pieces but the fish isn't the freshest here. Fish tasted old and the substitute of what they're actually selling. The ginger chicken I had gave me an upset stomach because the chicken was expired. I ate the leftovers which were just the vegetables and took the chicken out and my stomach was just fine so I definitely knew the chicken was rancid. Teriyaki sauce is a runny. Pho is better at a Vietnamese place than here but again, nice they have it on their menu. Wasabi was good and strong. Coconut milk tom kha soup was good and flavorful.

We ate here more than any other restaurant during our week in Islamorada (three times) and they hit it out of the park every time. Yelp came through for us on this one. J-Dao is located in a shopping complex that includes a grocery store, post office and movie theater among other things. This is a local place and when I read it was loved by the locals, I wanted to check it out. They serve Thai and Sushi. We tried both and everything we had here was excellent. Not a flashy environment, if you're looking for a place to impress somebody. But it has friendly service and exceptional food. Highly Recommended.

This truly is a great Thai restaurant in the Tavernier area! It just opened about 2 years ago! We walked in on a Thursday evening without any waiting time! My friends and I ordered a couple of appetizers, Thai lettuce wrap (this was very tasty and had a little sweetness to it) and the spicy tuna roll (the tuna was kind of mushy though)! Then we ordered three entrees to shared between the four of us (plenty to shared): Pad Thai with pork - the noodles were cooked just perfectly and the flavors were outstanding! Pad See Ewe with chicken - this was delicious and the flavor was just right, it had a little taste of sweet flavor! Massaman Curry - oh my, this was the best curry I've ever had! It came with a side of white rice and of course we had to ask for another bowl to finished all the sauces that came with it! I would definitely come back to try other entrees if I am in the area again!

I heard of locals coming here and I had to try it. On a Sunday night I called in for pickup. When I arrived I was met with a bunch of locals dining in. We ordered chicken pad thai (super delicious), chicken fried rice (really good), and the Lucy sushi roll. My only reservation is that the Lucy roll was too small. I also forgot to ask for extra spicy mayo and eel sauce. Everything else was really tasty and good portions. All in all, we were very pleased. I'd like to come and dine in next time. Maybe I'll even give the red curry a try!

BEST SUSHI EVER. Tried going to Market 88 but it was so windy we decided that was a no go and looked up sushi restaurants... and found the holy grail, J-Dao. Called ahead and they said they could take our party of 5 so right when we got there, we were seated! To start off, their green tea was a deep, rich green and tasted deep + authentic. We also enjoyed their hot sake which really hit the spot on the rainy day we had. Ordered a TON of food... and cleared every dish. Some highlights/recommended orders: 1. Tom-Kha Khai soup was excellently creamy but not heavy. 2. Double rainbow roll was sooooo tasty. ***all their rolls have hunks of fish inside, so you really get the full bang for your buck!!! 3. Yellowtail sushi was melt in your mouth remarkable... that was the last thing that arrived and although we were all full, we ordered another one. 10/10 for this spot - if I could give this more than 5 stars I would. Thank you for the wonderful service as well!!!!

Friendly, attentive, and the kind of service that makes a meal feel more relaxed. Good energy from the start. We ordered a lot, so here is the full breakdown. The miso soup was exactly what miso soup should be. Simple, warm, and good. No surprises. The green salad was basic. Big chunks of lettuce that I would have preferred a little more finely cut, but it was refreshing and grew on me as I kept eating it throughout the meal. The spider roll was a highlight. Light, clean, and did not leave that heavy feeling you sometimes get from rolls that are overdone. It felt like a healthier version of what you usually find and that is a compliment. The lemonade was genuinely good. Flavorful and not overly sweet. Worth ordering. The combo platter came with a shrimp roll, an egg roll, and a fried dumpling. The shrimp roll was the standout, fat juicy shrimp with a sweet chili sauce that worked well. The egg roll tasted good and the dumpling was solid, though a little light on the filling inside. Still enjoyable. The shrimp pad see ew was really good. Nice shrimp, good sauce, well executed. The beef fried rice had solid flavor and did not feel heavy or oily, which matters more than people give it credit for. Overall Num Thai delivered a genuinely enjoyable meal. We will be back.

Lunch specials were excellently priced around $10. The portions a little smaller, but the flavors are excellent. We ordered the pad thai and the sushi lunch. Everything tasted great and fresh! Will definitely return if we are back in the area.

3.5, but I'll give it a 4…read more Takara -- ThaiSushi with personality (and a few rules you need to learn fast). First, this place is busy. If my dining room shot looks oddly empty, that's because I was explicitly told not to photograph people. Apparently someone recently went full creep mode taking pictures of diners and had to be removed by police. So yes--AI cleanup it is. I'm here for dinner, not a misdemeanor. Now, the food. The chef-owners are from Burma (Myanmar) and Thailand, and that absolutely comes through. This isn't your standard Americanized Thai-Sushi mashup. They claim to make many of their curry pastes in-house, and based on what we tasted, I believe it. But before you order, you need to understand how this place works: *Vegetables are cooked softer than most Asian kitchens *Spice is opt-in only -- if you don't ask, you're getting no chile *Levels are blunt: nothing / medium / hot / Thai hot *Even at "nothing," you're still getting fish sauce--so there's baseline funk *The crowd leans older, local, and very much the boating set--which explains some of these defaults We started with soups: The tom kha gai is excellent, but not the creamy coconut-heavy version most people expect. This leans closer to a tom yum with a touch of coconut milk--lighter, sharper, hot/sour/sweet, and very drinkable. The wonton soup--house-made chicken wontons in a clean vegetable broth--was simple and very well executed. Then things got uneven. The spicy herb noodle (tofu, medium) is listed as egg noodle with egg, chili paste, vegetables, and curry powder--but what actually shows up is closer to a yellow curry noodle stir-fry hybrid. The flavor is excellent. The chili paste + curry powder combination gives it real depth--warm, slightly sweet, properly spiced. But the default egg noodle is a problem. It comes out completely overcooked--soft to the point of collapse. When I asked, I was told that's just how it is. They also ignored the "no bell pepper" request. Which is frustrating, because the base is strong enough that this could be one of the best dishes on the menu. The obvious fix: order it with flat rice noodles instead So we pivoted. The drunken noodle (Pad Kee Mao) with flat rice noodles (tofu, no bell pepper--this time honored) was much better structurally and just as flavorful. But it's worth noting: this isn't a textbook pad kee mao. It eats closer to a pad see ew with heat--slightly sweeter, less aggressive on basil and aromatics--but with a noticeable chile kick. At medium, it was actually spicier than the spicy herb noodle. Still, this was the better noodle dish overall. The massaman curry was the service hiccup. It first arrived as chicken instead of beef. They insisted I ordered it that way--which, no--but they did remake it. And it delivered. The curry is clearly not from a paste jar--layered, slightly sweet, and consistent with everything else we had. There's a mild sweetness across the menu, but it's controlled. Next time I'd go hotter than medium. Final take: Takara isn't sloppy--it's idiosyncratic. This reads like Thai food filtered through a Burmese lens--softer, slightly sweeter, less aggressive on herbs, with chile doing more of the work than aromatics. There's a real kitchen here doing legit work, but the execution depends heavily on how you order. Defaults are tuned for a conservative crowd, not for precision or intensity. If you order casually, you may leave frustrated. If you direct the experience--protein, noodle type, spice level, exclusions--you'll eat very well. Would I go back? Yes. Would I be more explicit next time? Absolutely.

This restaurant was amazing. The drunken noodle, chicken satay, & vegetable tempura were impeccable.read more
