Today is my 21st birthday and my bf and I were so excited to try out captain fattys for the first time as an Sb local and support a local business. I placed an order for the first time and went in to pick it up today. I parked and walked through the front door because it was open.. I was ignored for a long minute before finally being noticed They said "that door wasnt supposed to be open?!" As if it were my fault. No welcome whatsoever. Mind you i was wearing a mask and keeping my distance the whole time. I didnt know how to leave and they didn't direct me so i went back the way i came to my car and was yelled at "ma'am we can't have you walking that way!!" Please have a little more respect for your customers, especially when theyre clearly new to your shop, trying to be safe and respectful and just new to your shop's rules. Goleta has a lot of great little breweries but Captain Fatty's is my go-to. They brew the best sour beers I've ever had and it's a chill environment to drink beer with friends. The trivia on Wednesday is also super fun! read more

My wife and I recently revisted Cpt. Fatty's, just to sample a few beers. We used to frequent this brewery when it first opened, but felt the beers lacked a certain depth, when compaired to the other breweries we visit. However, as locals, we wanted to give it another try. The remodel looks great, and it's nice to have bathrooms on site. However, when we sat down at the bar, we were "acknowledged," but not greeted by a female bartender. She never once smiled, slid our tasters across the bar to us, and she acted like it was an insult to serve us. She NEVER smiled, NEVER engaged us, and it was clear that she resented both our requests and presense. We felt so uncomfortable and unwelcomed, that we ordered the 3 ounce beer, just so we could finish and leave. We sat, sipping our beers, and finally watched her greet another customer with a smile and a hug. She spent 20 minutes talking to him, and never approached us again. We did engage the other bartender, and he was both friendly and informative. Additionally, he even smiled! I'm not sure what the problem was with this other bartender, but if you visit this brewery, stay away from the woman with the shaved head, dreadlocks ponytail, and an attitude that clearly doesn't belong in the public service industry. read more

Excellent spot for beers. They have a good rotation of beers and a good atmosphere. Beers usually range from 4%-11% and they usually have about 10 different beers to choose from. Cool little spot that I have been coming to for a while now. They often have food trucks available too. 10/10 favorite brewery in town. Cool location too. read more

Off the beaten path but feels just like home, Captain Fatty's is a place not to miss. The selection of beer and the low key vibe brought us back two nights in a row. Add the great food from Santa Barbara Wood Fire Pizza (which is indescribable) and you've got a great combo. From IPAs to stouts there's something for everyone. read more

The beers were pretty good (not great) for a microbrew. I didnt really see or taste anything that was radically different from any other microbrew Ive been to lately. The bar is fun though and there is a small kids play area which seems to be popular with parents. I can only suggest they get a bit more sun protection as it can get pretty warm in the late afternoon. read more

From the moment we walked in, the experience very unique. Don't get me wrong, the beer was fantastic and the bartender was very nice. But it was like a day care was throwing a party. The kid to adult ratio was ridiculous. Every single table was taken over...BY KIDS. At one point a child was screaming into a microphone but no one thought it might be a good idea to ask the kid to stop. I understand this is a very kid friendly place and parents need that. I just don't want to stand across from kids throwing their food at me. This was my first time coming here and I will be very cautious recommending this place to anyone without kids. read more

Great brewery! I love the family friendly atmosphere. The beer is awesome and there is something for everyone. The apricot saison is my favorite. There is a cider for the gluten free crowd, or just a refreshing change, and root beer for the under 21, non-drinkers, or DDs. A perfect place to hang out with friends. read more

This is a hidden brewery that is doing good things. I have been here a few times and love the beers and the chill environment. Even my friend, who "doesn't like beer," loved their SHIPWRECK belgian tripel. She said it tasted floral and drank the entire glass! They even have a delicious homemade rootbeer on tap for all you non-drinkers. For a work event we brought The Painted Cabernet to Captain Fatty's and it was awesome! Please do not let my 3 star rating deter you from trying Captain Fatty's. My 3 star rating was based on the horrific service we received from the manager. My 3 star rating will be further explained as you read my review. On Saturday, October 21, I arrived at CF at 1:00 in a party bus with a group 12. Everyone from the party bus were from out of town. The host rented the party bus as a surprise for her husband birthday celebration. The host also had the expense of renting the party bus so we all can responsibly enjoy ourselves. Prior to arriving at CF, the host had task me to make reservations at CF as well as 2 others breweries in Goleta. Unfortunately, CF did not have a contact number for me to call and make reservations. CF did have an E-mail for questions. In addition I gave CF a 3 star because I take some culpability for not leaving an E-mail. Upon arriving at CF the host spoke with CF manager regarding the financial arrangements for her guest. Unfortunately, CF manager did not appear to be receptive with our arrival in a party bus. He began to be rude with the host for not making reservation. The host explain to the manager they did not have a contact number. The manager stated an an E-mail should have been sent. I perfectly understand the manger if CF was over capacity. That was not the case. I counted 10 customers inside and their facility with the capacity being at least 100. The host expressed her frustration with me. I felt upset for the host as I knew how special it was to her to surprise her husband for his birthday. As well renting the party bus so we all can enjoy ourselves in responsible manner. The host asked me not to confront the manager. I respectfully abided with the host request until the manager confronted us. He became upset at us for moving a few tables and chairs so our group can sit together. He told us not to move the chairs and tables. I approached the manger and asked him to express his concerns he had with our group. The manager said he was not a big fan of groups arriving in a party bus. He also expressed his frustrations with us for not making reservations. At this point I took it upon myself to communicate my concerns to him with regards to his poor management skills towards our group. Let me point out I did not raise my voice during my conversation with him. I apologize to the manager for not making reservations. I reassured the manger he should not have concerns with our group as we were her to have a great time celebrating a great friends birthday party. Let me note our group consisted of approximately 5 to 6 couples with average age being in our mid 40's. The manager was not receptive with my assurance. I further explain to the manager I owned a business for over 20 years. I am a big advocate for great service. I told the manager If I had a bus drop off 12 or more customers at my business to spend money I would not be hostile as he were to us. I would go beyond to provide great service to the customers. As for him I told him his service was subpar and the worse I've ever experienced. The manager walked away from me out of frustration without apologizing to us. I learned he left shortly after our conversation. If it weren't for the manager I would of giving CF a 4.5 star. The beers were great. The place and restrooms were clean. The two females pouring out beers were amazing. The outside BBQ was off the charts. To the Yelpers who actually took the time to read my review. Let me assure you I am not that pain in the A@@ customer who complains about everything. Great craft beer, tucked away in Goleta. I found them on the Axxess app when looking for an afternoon without the craziness that comes with funk zone. Never have I ever, gone to a brewery and ordered a flight of IPAs and they all (4) come out same color and same taste. Really? WTF?? Told the bartender and she assured me they were different and then proceeded to charge me full price for the flight that I didn't drink. We won't be back and I don't recommend this place. read more

Great Beer and Great People. Every beer is solid. The tap room is super friendly and inviting. They just won a Gold Medal at the GABF so I had to try it out. They had a good selection of IPA and Sours. If you are in Goleta or Santa Barbara and enjoy craft beer, this is a must stop. read more

This hole in the wall is certainly a gem! If you're looking for a mellow vibe and great beer, Captain Fatty's is the perfect place. A lot of the breweries in Santa Barbara are over rated and crowded, but this place has by far the best beer in Santa Barbara, good food, good prices, nice staff, great location and a good time. read more

I stopped by to pick up a growler for my dad for Father's Day and although they weren't filling growlers that day due to low supply (which I took as a good sign) they were able to accommodate my request and I took home a full growler of their Cascadian Dark Ale. My girlfriend always mentioned this place and said she was beyond interested in trying it. As a surprise to her and myself, we where driving by and I just turned into the parking lot. Her look of surprise was worth the moment itself. We walked in and felt relaxed and welcomed. The bartender greeted us and seemed genuinely happy to be there. We order our drinks, I got the Calypso and she got a beach pilsner. Needless to say, we were both beyond happy with our drinks. Amazingly priced and such a welcoming environment. They had a great selection of games on a table plus at the table we sat in, they had a few card games. Will definitely be making that a go-to spot again and again! read more

Hard to find, yes, if you are driving into what looks like storage units, you're in the right place. The sour something or other is amazing! But I always go for a flight my first time anywhere. Captain Fatty's was the perfect venue to host my husband's birthday celebration! The casual, family-friendly, and inviting environment made party hosting a breeze. The owners were amazing - very approachable and accommodating! They were gracious with my many questions, reserved us a couple of tables for our group to congregate (our party was during their normal open hours), and happily refrigerated our cake until the appointed time. Between the delicious drinks, the food truck that night, and the laid back atmosphere, a great time was had by all (and it honestly couldn't have been easier!). Great beer in a great space. Not a gimmicky tourist trap, but a place to visit if you are driving through or you live in the area. The clientele was a mixed group, so it's likely that you will feel at home here.
