Quaint place but in a most unusual location. Service has always been very friendly and accommodating. Although I haven't partaken, the wood fire mobile pizza oven that operates often is clutch. My problem lies with the beer, and I have had many a conversation with the peeps behind the counter, it just isn't that good. Almost every beer has the same finish, aftertaste (unless you get that crazy cucumber beer they have). M Special, Draughtsman and even Hollister are putting out beers that you want to drink after the first taste. I had to go through the gamut of beers at Captain to settle for the beer that was the least worst. So, why?? Maybe the answer lies, as one server explained, with the fact the beers are not filtered. The atmosphere is fun and relaxed and paired with the tacos al pastor makes for one of my favorite Santa Barbara dinners out! The staff is friendly and welcoming. Captain Fatty's Brewery has such a great vibe. It's located in a warehouse by the round about cross sections of Los Carneros and Calle real. You will see the walls of the warehouse open and a vendor outside. I am unsure if it's the same vendor every time but there was the Santa Barbara Woodfire Pizza who was making handmade pizzas to order. My boyfriend and I shared the tri tip pizza which had a delicious drizzle of a chipotle sauce. We each had a beer (me the Blue, a west coast IPA). Prices are hard to beat. $3-$6 depending on the size. Very reasonable it was hard to choose! Staff were all super friendly and happy to serve. Easy to talk to when I had questions about their beers. Family friendly, there were kids and dogs all around and enjoying a good time. There is plenty of room to sit at the bar, table behind the bar, or large benches behind those! I'll start by saying that this place was awesome! Went there this last weekend. The Pineapple Express (I think IPA) was great as well as the Apricot that others have commented on. I went home with a growler to enjoy this weekend. The guy that gave it a bad review because it's kid friendly? LOL The self proclaimed "non-breeder" crowd is seriously getting worse than the overly zealous and fanatical vegans and bible thumpers. Anyway, this place was great, service was great AND I think the family-friendly aspect is great. It was laid back and they had a food guy out front with DELICIOUS food. Happy another brewery opened! The more, the merrier. The beer here was fine, as was the tasting room itself. Good staff. I believe they are relatively new, so there's still time for them to diversify themselves from the other breweries, as well as keep working on the beer. Looks great after the remodel. I enjoyed the apricot saison and the two pouring beers were helpful and friendly and offered us tasters before we committed to our beers. My rating of this brewery is based on my experience this past Saturday and solely on the treatment that our group of 12 received by one male employee who said to be the manager. I'll start by saying that we attempted to contact Captain Fatty's a couple of days prior to visiting to see if they could reserve a table, but the brewery does not have a phone number listed. Captain Fatties was the 1st of 3 breweries that we visited for my husbands bday in Goleta. We live out of the area and visited Goleta with the main purpose of visiting CF since my husband had one of their beers last month and was so excited to visit the brewery. I hired transportation so that everyone in my group could enjoy themselves responsibly. We arrived at CF around 12:30 p.m., as soon we exited the bus this guy "manager" approached our group very irritated and demanded to know how many people were in our group. When I told him 12 people he started to raise his voice at me and stated they didn't appreciate large groups of people and that we should have called and made a reservation. I apologized to the guy as I attempted to stay calm since my husband really wanted to visit this brewery, and told him that we attempted to contact them but couldn't find a number. He continued to very rude and I assured him we didn't mind standing around if they were that busy and that we were just stopping by for one beer. As we entered the brewery, I counted maybe 10 people, that said, I couldn't understand why this guy was being so rude and why he was so upset. After all we were bringing business into his establishment. Just when I thought we would be able to enjoy ourselves, we started to group a few tables together that were less than 2 ft apart so we could sit together and enjoy the meal that we had purchased from the food truck. Again, this so called "manager" approached us and began scolding us for grouping tables together, making us feel very uncomfortable. At this point, one of my guest intervened because this guy was just out of control. I finally asked him what his problem was, we were there to spend money in his business and all I had encountered from the moment that we arrived was some of the worst customer service I've ever experienced. At that time, I asked my guest to please finish their beer so we could leave. I am giving 2 stars to Captain Fatties for two reasons. The beer is good and the 2 female employees were actually very nice and apologetic. To the owner of Captain Fatties I have a message " You should consider hiring staff with better customer service skills". My group was made to feel unwelcome and as the host I was embarrassed in front of my guest without a reason. Your beer is good, but I will not visit your brewery again or consume your product based on my experience this past Saturday. read more

I tried Captain Fatty's due to their support of disc golf in the 805. I love a good IPA and was really impressed with Vortex, so much so that now it's what I look for in market! It's got a full hoppy bouquet, but smooth, (dare I say), reminiscent of Pliny the Elder. read more

A solid liquid lineup awaits the brew enthusiast at Capt fattys!!! The ay ay and vortex IPAs were both flavorful examples of bold yet delicious hop heavy beers ! I preferred the vortex but the apricot saison supplied a variable most newer breweries would over look. However the milk stout was the only dark beer and indeed my favorite. Not a bunch of roasted coffee or carob nibs to mask the true favor just a great example of a classic stout!!! Another great addition to the growing beer scene in Goleta. read more

Preston makes really good beer. Minkus will take good care of you in the taproom. Fatty's is a fine place for a post work hangout, an evening drop in, or food trucking with the family. A hidden gem! My (now) husband and I were looking for a place to throw a welcome party / rehearsal dinner for all of our wedding guests the night before our wedding in Santa Barbara, and are SO thrilled we chose Captain Fatty's! Unlike the other places we were scoping out, CF was reasonably priced, had plenty of parking for our guests, and let us customize the space and beers to fit our party (shoutout to the Apricot Saison that my hubby was obsessed with). It was also delightful working with Jon and Preston (the owners) and Risa (the event coordinator). My mother-in-law worked with Risa to customize and add our own decorative touches to the space, and it turned out incredible. Pictures to come shortly... We ended up having 130 guests in attendance and everyone had a blast! The beers, hard cider, and root beer on tap were a huge hit among our guests. CF has the awesome Sonos music system and let us play our own playlist as well as project a slideshow both inside and on the wall outside. We brought in a food truck that parked right in front to serve dinner to our guests, which fit in perfectly with the laid-back, fun vibe of the space. Jon actually served as one of our bartenders on the night of the party, which was amazing. He was so accommodating and our guests loved being able to talk to one of the brewers himself about the beers. Everyone that worked there fit so naturally with our group, they felt like they were friends. :) So many of our guests commented that they had the best time at our welcome party at CF. It was a fantastic time and I would HIGHLY recommend CF for anyone looking for a really fun, customizable venue for your rehearsal dinner or birthday party. You won't be disappointed. read more

It was a fun crowd, but in a really bad location in some cheap industrial warehouse in the middle of nowhere. Wouldn't go back with so many other good brew options to chose from around town. read more
