Was on our way to York Region Pride, when we happened across Red Rooster. We just so happened to…read morebe making a stop at the local Party City to deck out our Jeep for the parade and decided we needed a quick lunch. Oddly enough, the two of us just so happen to be having a conversation about Portuguese chicken in the car and it was as if the Portuguese chicken gods placed this at our feet. We just could not resist and slide in. The restaurant itself was clean and modern, with some nods to Portugal and a television with the World Cup game on (if memory serves). The menu had some great offerings, which were cheap in price. I went for the 1/2 Chicken with potatoes and caesar salad for $13.50 and got a large peri-peri sauce for an additional $5.00 The serving sizes are HUGE, let me tell you that. The chicken itself is juicy, tender and delicious. I felt like the salad itself was kind of an afterthought, however, I could have had more potatoes and on second thought, I should have had potatoes on potatoes. But oh well, that's on me. The peri-peri sauce I got was medium but tasted more like a mild. I got a large size and it was literally served in a bowl. I would have liked a head's up from my server that it was that big, as I likely didn't need a size that big and would have ordered a small or medium. Overall, I loved the vibe and experience here. 10/10, would come back.

I'm glad Ai Taiker finally opened in Newmarket because I've always enjoyed their other locations,…read moreand having one closer is such a win. This spot is super clean, bright, and the staff were really friendly, they welcomed everyone in and the food came out hot and fresh, which I always appreciate. I ordered a bunch of my usual favourites to see if this location was consistent, and it definitely was. The fried chicken with seaweed flakes was the standout for me as always... super crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and the seaweed flakes add that savoury umami flavour that reminds me of Taiwanese night market eats. The fried squid balls were bouncy with a nice light crisp, and the squid tentacles were tender but not rubbery at all, with a good salty crunch. However, though the batter was a little much to our liking, it didn't stop up from ordering every time LOL The New Orleans wings here were deep-fried and seasoned really well, honestly so good for dipping. I always get their Taiker hot mayo and house special garlic honey on the side. If you haven't tried their dips yet, then you gotta~ the hot mayo has the perfect kick, and the garlic honey is sweet, savoury, and a little addictive. The spicy tenders were another favourite! Crispy, juicy, and had a nice heat that builds without being too spicy. Perfect if you like a little kick without burning your mouth. For drinks, I got the wintermelon tea and pineapple juice for my mom. Both were refreshing and not overly sweet, which worked really well with all the fried food. The wintermelon is always my go-to when I want something light. Portions were generous, prices were fair, and everything tasted freshly made. Overall, Ai Taiker is such a great addition to Newmarket. If you're craving Taiwanese-style fried chicken, seafood snacks, or just want something crispy and satisfying, this spot is definitely worth checking out.

I discovered this relatively new place that recently opened up in Newmarket in August. I was…read morecatching up with 2 friends and they lived in Aurora and told me about this place. They said it was pretty good. I was initially hesitant as the reviews online were VERY mixed (and leaning towards not so great ... mainly centered around slow service). Decided to keep an open mind. Arrived for late dinner on a saturday. The staff were already familiar with my friends as they have a young infant and already brought her a couple of times. I ordered a baked portuguese beef brisket rice for myself and my friends ordered 2 other dishes. It seemed unique because you'll usually see portuguese chicken rice on HK cafe menus but brisket is usually done with curry. As far as the food goes, I actually thought my rice was good! There was a lot of sauce which I appreciated. Sometimes I go to an HK cafe and they don't put enough sauce on the rice if you order any of the baked dishes. The brisket was also tender which checked out. In terms of service, we actually experience pretty quick prompt attention. Our food also arrived fast. like 5-10 min after ordering. I wonder if it has anything to do w/ my friends being regulars already in the 2 months since they resto's opened LOL but yea, no issues with slow service which I kept seeing in reviews. I want to come back and try the curry brisket rice to compare with the portuguese brisket rice!

We found out from another source that this was the same owner as golden harbor in aurora which is one of our favorite local restaurants so we devices to check it out. The food hit all the right spots as expected. We had a nice conversation with the owner at the end and she advised us not to rush out. The ambiance is much better than golden harbor and the space seems like it can accomodate more tables I hope this one sticks around because we live very close buy and this will be our go to spot moving forward
