I came here with the intention on solely eating blue crabs and did just that. Monday-Thursday they have 2 hours of unlimited for $34.99. I'm from Florida, so I can't speak too much on price, but it seems reasonable for all you could potentially get. The atmosphere is super chill. The food was ok. I ordered the cream of crab soup which stated that it had lump crab meat and there was absolutely no lump of any kind in the soup. There were pieces of something that were speckles. Visited on vacation, and I would come back no doubt when visiting the city again. Brought my parents and my dad is a hard critic, as most places he would say isn't worth it, but he loved it!! We had good quality, FRESH, large crab. A little over seasoned, but that's the style. A pitcher of beer is all you need to balance the spices out . My family and I were very excited to try Captain james Crabhouse. Everything was great but one thing, the young lady behind the kitchen window. 1. She obnoxiously kept yelling the names of the servers. 2. We were a few feet away from her and she kept saying is the F word out loud. She said so many times I stopped counting. 3. While I was going to wash my hands by the outside sink, I heard her say to one of the servers "why the F you keep ringing dumb S***!" I think she was inconsiderate of the guest. I dined here last night with my family. Our total was $170 (5 people entrees plus one app and sodas). For the price, this place is underwhelming. For the same price or cheaper, Baltimore has so many far better dining options. I'll start with the pro's: tons of parking, good location, clean bathroom, and the scallops were pretty good. What could use work: crab dip was only okay, service was very very slow, everything is extremely overpriced for food you could make at home, no one was happy with their sides (bland fries, hard unflavored broccoli, soupy naked zucchini) with the exception of the butternut squash. To be perfectly blunt, my meal should been $18 for what it was. Not $29. Save your money, go to the avenue in Hampton they have tons of nice, better priced, better quality places to eat at! read more

I forgot to take pictures which is so disappointing but this place was aces!! Definitely expensive, it is a seafood place literally on the water so you get what you pay for here. We spent $110 on a dozen medium size oysters and the three of us ate 10 of them. We also ordered corn on the cob - it is hot don't burn yourself! And 1.5 lbs ($60) of snow crab legs. I got several drinks that were OK, not so worth it. Just get beer on tap. There is a parking lot right there. It wasn't full on a Friday night when we were there but during the happy hour (mon- thurs $40 per person all you can eat crab) it was more of a wait so we left that night. Ordered a dozen medium crabs (which cost an overpriced $100) and half of them tasted foul. When we asked if they would do a replacement crab for one of the particularly bad crabs, the server insisted on checking it himself, put on gloves, and checked it at the table... before he confirmed that it was in fact bad. We later asked for water, as the crab seasoning makes you thirsty, and the server brought out bottled water for an extra charge. At first, it is a bit confusing when you arrive because there is a crab shack on the right side of the street that literally only sells crab, and a few other menu items with outside dock view seating. The place you want to go with a much larger menu is on the left side of the street (the restaurant that looks like a big ship). All prices are the same by the way. Food: We shared a full dozen oysters & they were fresh, tasty and ice cold just like I like them. Ordered the snow crab legs which were $35 for 3 claws which was a lot they come with a side of warm butter, covered in old bay seasoning and I also ordered a side of waffle fries. The crab was so easy to crack and peel and was delicious definitely satisfied my seafood craving! The stuffed shrimp was pretty good but didn't have that seafood punch maybe too cheesy for me? Service: Very nice server and staff all very friendly however the food did take incredibly long and we had a baseball game that we were late 35 minutes to. Price: Definitely amazing for what we were eating, we spent $98 per couple so $200 for 4 people. Had 4 entrees and 2 appetizers. Hmmm, perhaps it's because I live in NJ and made about a 400 mile round trip drive for the sole purpose of eating here but I think Capt James' is fantastic. Places like this really don't exist outside of the Great State of Maryland. If they did, it would have saved me a hell of a lot of time as well as gas and toll money. I have been wanting to eat crabs soaked in Old Bay and haphazardly dumped on a paper table cloth since I graduated college a hell of a long time ago so when the opportunity presented itself, I gladly made the trip which, incidentally, was well worth it. If Capt James' was closer I would be there every week, maybe more. It was delicious. Sitting outside, drinking a cold IPA and munching on crabs, calamari and corn is just about as good as a day gets. While I am not a fan of celebrity endorsements, Oprah has eaten there and yesterday, to my delight, baseball legend Cal Ripken, Jr was two tables away. I have to figure that in addition to being able to slam the crap out of a baseball, he knows good crab. I have read some mixed reviews of this place and I am here to tell you that if you're giving them below 4 Stars, you're wrong. Honestly crabs old bay and butter. What is there not to like. It's the perfect combination. The food was good as expected. What was not expected was how low this place came to my expectations, the crabs were good but they weren't 'amazing ' the crabs were obviously over cooked and were sticking to the shell. This is probably the hardest time I've had eating crabs. Scrapping the shell with my fingers just to get the meat out. Not only was that the problem but it was strange that the crab meat itself didn't have any 'salty' taste. It was strangely bland.. which I know for sure is something that's not normal. To all the crab places I've been to, I've never encountered crabs that tasted bland. And we paid 114$ for mediocre crabs and shitty service. Solid restaurant but the food is not good enough to warrant prices and frankly no draft beer, underwhelming wine choices and the advertising of skyy vodka on its own shelf like it's special is very odd. Did not get a chance to go upstairs and on a Sunday late evening we were told 45 min wait ( I believe the kitchen is just super slow for some reason) so we opted for the 15 min wait for the bar...didn't realize the bar was four chairs long. Lol. Our bartender was very preoccupied waiting on tables making drinks and apparently bussing other tables dirty dishes.... he wasn't really a bartender and I waited much too long for him to ask about a refill so I finally asked someone else and also asked twice for more water and rolls before getting them. Probably would not have asked for more bread had we been given more than two rolls to begin with or not waited 45 mins between the appetizer and the dinner.....for a Sunday evening The crab cake was awesome, tho. The grits were another story. They were actually hard. Like serves on a plate and hard and chunky ( i really think they keep them in a crockpot and this was the bottom of the pot) . I asked for another helping and sent the first back and the second one was a bit better; the waiter acted like he didn't have any idea that grits aren't supposed to be hard. To our disappointment, there was no crab nor lobster that day when we decided to dine here. We ended up ordering corned beef, blackened salmon, crab soup, broiled seafood platter and seafood salad instead. We were served freshly baked bread and butter which was real perfect. Kudos to our waiter who was kind enough to give us extra bread! *The crab soup, though a bit salty, it was flavorful and the thickness of the soup was just right. *Broiled seafood platter was good but portions were too little except for the brocolli. *Seafood salad was just right. *Blackened salmon was salty and the pasta that comes with it was spicy for us. *Corned beef sandwich, just a few slices of (dry) corned beef with a generous amount of cheese on top and sauerkraut at the bottom which was overpowering. My son and I went here after our visit to the National Aquarium. It wasn't busy which should have been enough to make us turn around and go somewhere else. The only prices on the menu is for the all you can eat crabs, which is about $43 per person. The crabs had little to no meat in them. We received one dozen and after realizing we were cracking crabs that were empty, it wasn't worth having another dozen. Aside from the crabs we had one orange soda, a total of 2 lemonades for my son and one crab cake that cost $41. The bill including a automatic 18% gratuity for 2 people the bill was $170. Also, the Maryland crab soup literally had no crab. It's not the price that's the problem, the issue is that it just isn't worth it. A lesson learned and we will not return. You'll be better off going to the Wharf, getting a bushel of crabs steamed, and just eating at the Wharf with a great view, or just take it home. Hold on to that ear of corn until after eating a few crabs to get the extra flavor. You can ask for liquid dipping butter if that's how you roll. You're going to get seasoning all over you, they do have a sink outside so you can hose off. If the crabs and corn aren't enough, the Hush puppies are pretty fantastic too. The service isn't five star... duh... don't be rude, but you don't have to be timid about flagging people down. They do the all you can eat Sunday through Thursday. Visited the crab house on Labor Day for all you can eat crabs. The normal price for all you can eat is 34.99 Monday through Thursday. I believe there was a $2 upcharge due to the holiday which was no big deal. With the all you can eat you get a cup of Maryland Crab soup and an ear of corn on the cob. The soup was good. Not a lot of crab but good. The corn was good. Unseasoned but served with parkay, salt & pepper. For the price I wasn't expecting much. Our first batch I would compare to the medium sized crabs sold at local crab carryouts. They were served hot and the majority of them were heavy. A second batch had a few duds. Had family in from out of town and decided to go to Captain James' Crab House. This was our first time going there, primarily because we'd heard great things about this restaurant from friends and relatives. Our out of town family had never dined on steamed blue crabs before, so I thought we'd go all the way and order the jumbos. Two-dozen crabs later, everyone was full and satisfied. Not to mention the great social time we had taking pictures and interacting with each other. Not a single bad crab in the bunch too boot, which was something I really appreciated. They were served with a side of old bay as well as a side of vinegar. We dined on the crab deck which also added to the ambiance. The steamed corn was sweet, the crabby mac n cheese fries were a hit, as were the various soups that we ordered. The Greek salad dressing was dramatically different - and in a good way - than any other Greek salad dressing I've ever had. The salad itself "popped" with fresh feta and kalamata olives! I would highly recommend this as a light starter. I read some reviews in regards to the service. The complaints seemed "ticky-tacky" and downright snobbish to me. It all goes back to "you see what you're looking for." All I saw were hard working and accommodating waiters and waitresses. The staff couldn't have been nicer. They were all hustling and taking care of all customers. Our waitress was Nicolette. She was friendly, professional and efficient. The crab mac & cheese appetizer my friends had was actually their meal. Sandwiches & burgers are a deal ranging from $8-14ish. I wouldn't come here for pasta where most dishes are $25ish. DRINKS - If you want to pay $10 for a drink with a stick of bacon in it (aka the BLT), be my guest. But if you don't want to be underwhelmed then stick to anything else. SERVICE - awesome.
