Corn bread is upgraded in taste and unique fish shape. Seafood Captain platter was excellent combo of fried clams, haddock with grilled shrimp, scallops. I needed more scallops , clams fresh , all fresh . Cole slaw needs more creamy sauce. Side of Brussels sprouts very good. Nightly specials in addition to menu . I dropped by on my way from Boston to Worcester and had a great lunch. The clam chowder was delicious! Service was quick and the restaurant is cozy and classy. There was a lively vibe inside. I was craving a lobster roll so I ordered one of those too, but it was a little dry and not worth the $33 in my opinion. Day one of vacation, and we kicked it off right with brunch. Let me tell you, this place set the bar high. Three of us split the special pumpkin waffles, which came with fruit and a little cream cheese spread. The perfect seasonal treat! If you're here with a group, just order it for the table. Trust me, you'll need at least three people to take down that waffle. As for me, I ordered the classic Benedict with well-done home fries. And those home fries? Wow. Captain Marden's Seafoods market was open when I popped over during my lunch break but the restaurant was closed. They are currently (2023 summer/fall) relying on their food truck (Cod Squad) for the lunch crowd, while opening the dining room only for breakfast (Wed - Fri 7 am - 11 am; Sat & Sun 8 am - 12 pm) and dinner. When I ordered up my fish sandwich ($10, optional cheese, accompanied with French fries and cool Cole slaw and tartar sauce, with a wedge of lemon), I was told it would be just 5 minutes. Tax was already included. I felt this was a deal for the quantity of food, especially given the pandemic induced inflation. I grabbed a set of plastic utensils and some ketchup packets and headed off to find a spot to enjoy my meal, seeing as they do not offer any special lunchtime seating in their parking lot. The cole slaw was nice and crisp and cool. French fries were the thicker cut sort. The sandwich was prepared for you to top when ready, to keep the greens, tomatoes, and red onion slice nice and fresh. The cheese was melted directly on the fried piece of fish, and the bun came toasted. I almost forgot to slather on the tartar sauce. All layered together it made for a huge bite. With my appetite, I managed the entire fish sandwich, but couldn't quite finish off the fries and cole slaw. If I worked in the neighborhood, I'd probably make this a once in a while treat, apart from the normal packed lunch from home. *** Captain Marden's was sold out of their $9.99 lobster roll at a local market in Fall 2024. I think the write-ups for the restaurant and the shop should be disambiguated, as they're related, but different, experiences. This write-up is for the restaurant. The environs are super homely - low ceilings, friendly staff, muted conversations across the dining area. There aren't a lot of huge tables. The garlic bread is really buttery, perhaps overly so ... but that's okay. The plentiful garlic makes up for it. The fried calamari was quite excellent, especially the accompanying marinara sauce which was less spicy than I'm used to. I wish the fry on the calamari was a bit more crispy, but I appreciated the freshness of the calamari. The sea scallops with 2 accompanying sides were amazing. It's hard to revert back to store-bought water-logged scallops after having fresh scallops from Captain Marden's. The corn side on this day was good; however, the rice pilaf side was a bit too hard. The seafood fra diavolo was excellent; definitely not lacking punch and spice in the flavor. I also think the pasta might (might) be homemade. The seafood portions were generous and fresh. The Boston cream pie and the chocolate cake were decent; they probably should have been brought to room temp. before being served. In general they were too sweet; not sure how they sourced them (I am guessing they weren't made in-house.) Really glad that this institution is going strong! read more

Went out to dinner here with my sister and brother in-law who live in the next town over and had been here many times. Was a little bit of a wait but it was a Friday night and the place was hopping, and after ordering the food my wife and I could see why. They waiter came over and gave us corn bread to start with, which we thought was weird instead of regular bread, but it was so good especially with butter. We then order the clam chowder and onion rings as a starter. Chowder was nice and plenty of clams in it. The onion rings were light and crisp. We then shared the fisherman's platter which were plenty enough for the two of us. The fish, scallops, clams and shrimp was nice and fresh, breading was light and not to corn mealy like other places we have been. Service was great, staff were nice and friendly. Marden's is always a consistent 10/10. The seafood is always THE BEST! Our regular favorites are the mussels (such a generous serving it is enough for a full dinner for me) and the fish and chips. Recently, we enjoyed the crab cavatelli and the beet salad. The corn bread in the shape of a fish is always a nice treat! The service is always attentive without being overbearing. The Marden family has always run a quality operation. We feel fortunate to be able to easily access their wonderful restaurant and market. read more

It's much better on other platforms. We had nine of us, and we ordered most of the items on the menu. Great all-around seafood options. I went with the grilled captains seafood platter, shrimp, scallops, and Haddock. some of the others went with lobster rolls and others with fish dishes. I started with the Calamari, which was just perfectly fried. Clam strips and an order crab rangoon. nicely fried in a fresh oil and not really loving the crab Rangoon. Then, an order of clam chowder. Met a friend for lunch. Fortunately the truck was gone so the restaurant was open for lunch. Service was really bad. Mid order our waitress was replaced. One of us had ordered. The second person hadn't so we had to order all over agin. Substitutions that waitress #1 said were possible were not possible according to waitress #2 The food was good but the service was the worst. Then apparently the restaurant closes for an hour after lunch and before dinner and we got chased out of the restaurant just as we finished lunch. Their baked haddock was undersized and dry. Their $35 lobster roll is half the size of their former lobster roll and was served on a stale hot dog bun. First of all the tables are very close together and makes it impossible to have a personal conversation. They discontinued serving baked potatoes and onion rings on their menu. I have been shopping at their seafood store for years. But I have to say that in the past 6 months the quality has really declined. The majority of fish is farm raised. On several occasions the fish has been mushy and not fresh. The count neck clams are often so small there is hardly any clam inside the shell. I wonder if they are even legal in size as they are about the size of a quarter. For the prices one pays for their products I expect WAY better quality and more of a choice of non farm raised fish. read more

Had a coworker in from out of town and wanted to give him a flavor of some Massachusetts seafood. Seeing as we were in Wellesley we gave Captain Mardens seafoods a go. We got there about 1:30 pm on a Monday afternoon only to find out that the restaurant doesn't open until 4 PM. They offered their food truck outside for lunch so that's what we did. From the menu we ordered fish and chips and a lobster roll. My coworker enjoyed the fish and chips saying that it was not overly fishy tasting, cooked spot on and it was a good amount of food for lunch. He also commented positively on the coleslaw and french fries. I had the lobster roll. This was a very good lobster roll. I've had quite a few of them around the area and this one stacks up pretty darn well. There are a lot of lumps of crab, fresh, lightly seasoned on a toasted roll with lettuce. One of their go to lunch items. A good amount of food for lunch and something I would definitely order again. We both liked the sides of coleslaw that came along with our lunches. For me it wasn't too sweet rather the perfect flavor, texture, and freshness I like to see in a coleslaw side dish. The french fries were of the thick variety but not at all greasy. read more

This is probably the best fish market in Wellesley and the surrounding region! They have all kinds of fresh fish and shell fish. you won't be disappointed. Their restaurant, next door, was extremely pricey. Had oysters and whole belly clams and they were definitely fresh. But for the quantity, it was really expensive. Being the only good fresh fish market in a large surrounding area probably gives them the opportunity to keep the prices high. Never mind, that's how businesses work. But at least, they don't compromise on quality! Hope they open multiple branches across the state! read more

We are regular customers of the fish market. Their fish is always outstanding -- very fresh and well prepared. Therefore, we had high expectations for the restaurant. We were not disappointed. It has a very nice, relaxed vibe. The staff was friendly and the food was delicious. I had the cioppino, which I often get when available, and it was one of the best versions I have ever had. My wife had the baked haddock and our friend had the fish and chip. Both were delicious. We shared the delicious creme brûlée for dessert. It was a special way to end an outstanding dinner. The food is good, but certainly not worth the price. The renovation is a disaster. The tables are so close together so it's not comfortable to have a conversation with your tablemate. Person in my party ordered the pasta diablo and found it very bitter. Too much lemon making it bitter and preferred the previous dish at Captain Marden's. Would never order it again. Clam chowder was excellent. Missed seeing burgers on menu for those who prefer light fare. Prices were high for what you received. Not as good as old restaurant. They replaced some of the tables with high top tables which were very uncomfortable and hard to get on and off. The new fished shaped corn bread was not as good as the original, it was very dry. Food was just ok, nothing special. read more
