We had a fun dinner here our first evening in Texas. The restaurant sits on Lake Travis and requires a little walking to get to from the parking lot. It is worth it though for the view of the lake, the vibe of sitting on the water, and for the fun of seeing all the fish that profit off of it. When we arrived, we were seated outside on their covered deck. Our server was friendly and got us our drinks quickly. He also gave us some recommendations as we were unsure what to get from the menu. I got the catfish tacos, which came with a salad as their side. The meal hit the spot. The catfish was cooked just right and well seasoned. It paired really well with the toppings of the taco, which were fruity and bright. The salad was also super refreshing and dressed to my liking. Overall it was a great, light dinner for me after traveling all day and did not take a chunk out of my wallet either. The most fun about this place is that they advertise their natural garbage disposal, the fish who swim near their dock. A few of my friends did not finish their meals and saved their fries for the fish. We may be adults, but we still had a lot of fun tossing fries at fish at the end of the evening. They also sell actual fish food inside if you have small children who would like to feed them more. I love that you can either drive up or pull in by boat to this floating restaurant, such a cool experience being right on the water at Lake Travis. There is a bit of a walk from the parking area, but they do have ramps along the way. We ended up being the only ones there, so the service was absolutely fabulous, attentive without being overbearing. The food was surprisingly really good, too. We were greeting as soon as we walked in. Led to a table with a spectacular view. The restaurant floats on Lake Travis a marvelous design, Drinks and appetizers were out quickly. Love taking out of state friends & family to Pete's for specific foods, was extremely better with live music on the water on weekends. The service is very good upstairs with an exceptional view when there's a nice breeze. The most unfriendly bartender (C) is downstairs so go upstairs to get those. Full menu only offered downstairs. Very nice dock attendants who handle board parking & fueling. Wait staff are abysmal. Everyone has their head down, not looking around to see if anyone needs help. Sat at a table for 10 minutes and no one came around. Then went to the bar thinking that might be faster and the bartender never acknowledged me either after a few minutes. The Yelp map is great! Drive and then park near the floating boardwalk that takes you to the boathouse. Or dock your boat to enjoy a meal. Got there as the sun was setting. Loved watching the fall sky change colors. Like Mother Nature creating a beautiful painting. Zachary, our waiter, was so fun. Took our order and then took us to feed the catfish (which we did not eat). The catfish can freely swim but love to hang out with their mouth open waiting to enjoy some leftovers. They've been conditioned to beg for food like very hungry, eager puppies. For dinner, we had blackened salmon. The blackened salmon plate comes with fries, cole slaw and the yummiest hush puppies. My blackened salmon salad had lots of my favorites. Blackened salmon over a bed of mixed greens with cucumbers, mandarin oranges, carrots, feta and toasted almonds. Vinaigrette on the side. So good. If you have a pampered pooch, this is the place to go on the lake. The family next to us ordered a burger, sans the bun, and fries for their fur-ever baby. We stopped by early that afternoon for gas and drinks and were made to feel so welcome that we came back later for more gas and dinner. Our waitress, Taylor, was very attentive and helpful. I asked if I could substitute my coleslaw and fries for a salad unless the coleslaw was a sweet, creamy style. After checking with the kitchen and manager, Andrea, I was told the substitution was approved at no additional charge. However, my meal arrived with dry coleslaw and fries. When I mentioned it, Taylor immediately apologized and brought me a salad, again assuring us there would be no charge. When our bill arrived, we were surprised to see an additional $8 charge for the salad. Had I known there would be an extra charge, I would not have ordered it. When we questioned the charge, Taylor went back to speak with Andrea, who then said we would have to pay for the salad after all. We asked to speak with her but were told no. It was a disappointing way to end an otherwise wonderful visit. Thankfully, it didn't ruin my 70th birthday, but it was an unfortunate ending. As locals who live on the lake we enjoy having and supporting our local lake restaurants, which is why this experience was so disappointing. We hope management will communicate more clearly with both their staff and customers so situations like this can be avoided. read more

I hate restaurants that charge a credit card fee on top of their bill - It may have been disclosed on the menu (I'm not sure) but I'm already there and now the bill comes with a 3% fee. In any regard, this is not affect my restaurant rating. Food is average and service is average (server comes by when he can, and was very personable but a bit forgetful) - seem to be a bit short on servers. We were quickly seated and food came out quickly. Fried pickles were great - hot and spicy, fries were cold in the basket, and shrip tacos were OK. A great place to visit in the afternoon especially now that Lake Travis is up to 675 feet. Nice breeze, excellent view. I will definitely be back on nice days. read more

Had a fantastic experience at Captain Pete's Boathouse Floating Restaurant and Fuel Dock! The frozen margaritas were perfect, and the food was outstanding. We had the Boathouse Burger, fried shrimp basket, French fries, hush puppies, and coleslaw -- everything was excellent. My wife said the burger was the best she's ever had, and the shrimp were cooked perfectly. The tartar sauce was absolutely awesome and tied everything together. We also grabbed a slice of the homemade carrot cake to go, and wow... it was so, so good. Great food, great atmosphere, great service and definitely a place we'll be back to! read more

This place was great a year ago, food tasted fresh and nice portions. I have given them a 5 star before, sadly gave them 2 this time because zi was disappointed, our fries were loaded with oil and not as hot, kind of soggy, burger gotten little smaller and shrimp basket gotten way way smaller, only 6 pieces of shrimps, compare to 24 a year ago. My daughter love it because of the fish feeding, if I do come again it won't be for the food but most likely for a beer read more

I imagine most patrons arrive by boat...but you can get there by car...and the walk down AND up is a bit of an adventure from the parking lot. We ordered the peel and eat cajun shrimp, very tasty with our cocktails, texas flip flop and classic marg. The best part was that the shrimp shells get dumped overboard for the fish that hang out under the floating dock. My capt pete jerk chicken and companion's catfish basket were enjoyable. If I could give this place 0 stars I would. Within the first 5 minutes the waiter was cussing up a storm, he was also clearly drunk and smelt of alcohol. It was a very busy night but the wait being 2 hours for food is still ridiculous. Once the food came it was mediocre and there were lots of error. We talked to another waiter about getting some of the food that was missing and the other worker was incredibly rude. Durning that encounter it was brought up that our waiter was acting drunk rather than the worker and manger caring, they both questioned our credibility and if it was true. Later the waiter proceeded to tell the table that he was not drunk and acted rude. When paying our bill cash was given, we waited for him to come back for change but he did not. We asked another worker and he proceeded to say "well did you tip him" and that "he just worked there". We ended up not receiving our change back. I understand that it was a busy night but the waiter made the experience so much worse. We were not taken seriously by any staff members and felt disrespected the whole time. read more

My experience at this place was absolutely atrocious! It there were to be a zero star rating choice that's what would be chosen. Waiter was stumbling around and reeked of alcohol, horrible customer service led off the conversation with "I'm about to bring yall water, no F*** that i'm just going to take yalls order", and took $8 in change that was not given as a tip and pocketed it and when another worker was asked about the change they responded with "I just work here". An order of hush puppies was forgotten and when I asked a worker for my order they said " I'm not your server go and find him." HORRIBLE experience today at Captain Pete's... actually, it was a nonexistent experience. We were so looking forward to drinks and food by the water with our two dogs. We got there, got seated and had menus given to us, and that was it. The hostess and the waiters glanced at us a few times, and there was no way they could miss us because we had 2 90-pound dogs with us and menus still on the table, but they never came to even offer us water, much less take our orders. It wasn't busy and there were at least 4 servers. They quickly waited on two tables that arrived AFTER us, but they were off boats, not a lowly car like we were. My husband even went inside to get dog water and they saw him walk back out. After about 20 minutes, we just got up and left, still hungry and thirsty. We loved the Gnarly Gar and were sad to see it sink., but Capt Pete's is an overall great improvement. They did do a major overhaul of the dining area and according to the manager, there were a lot of additional repairs. A lot of boaters were dining outside by the lake, but we opted for the bar/AC as it was a humid day. Pete's has a few specialty drinks and our highly skilled & professional bartender, Tabitha, did not give us a tourist pour. Our Sunday-Funday Marghies were spot on. The menu item that caught my eye was the Fenway Frank. Come to find out the chef is a big Boston fan and offers a Fenway Park hotdog. This was not a ballpark dog but a foot-long grilled dog smothered in mustard, relish, and chopped onions. Hand-cut fries are included but the dog is king here. Plus one ordered the firecracker shrimp. It's a healthy portion and they were fried and spiced just right. Keep in mind with the lake so low it's a steep climb back up to the parking lot. We did meet a group as we were heading down and they remarked we should not have had that last round. They were a huffin and a puffin. read more

This was the perfect spot after a day out on the water. They have indoor and outdoor seating our preference was outside so we can still have views of the lake. The hostess and waitress were kind and attentive. We started with the garden salad with ranch and the only item that would have made it that much better would have been a hard boiled egg. Then we had the spicy shrimp ( that's not what it's called) and we highly recommend it. Those shrimp did not stand a chance lol Our grand finale was burger and fries! If you're wanting to eat on Lake Travis this has a great patio area. You're allowed to come by boat and it's not a crazy walk like some of the other restaurants from the dock to the restaurant. We have come here several times and have always had great service. Austin, the bartender, is great to converse with! Make sure to order a Pain Killer. Reminds me of the Virgin Islands. We almost always get the Bang Bang Shrimp and Crispy Baby Back Ribs. I'm a chicken when it comes to spice, but the shrimp has just enough spice where it isn't over powering. Captain Pete's is pretty good! We were able to park our pontoon super easy in one of the front spots. The food is also pretty good! I got a garden salad, and chicken tenders. The only thing that I didn't like about the salad was the spinach but there was only like 2 peices. The bathrooms are pretty clean, and the gift shop has cute shirts, kinda expensive, but still cute. They also have yummy ice cream! The waiter was nice, there was slow service, but that's expected due to how busy this place is.
