I like it. People nice and food is good. They are expanding their menu. Better for me who wants to eat healthier.

Food was alright. Took about 30 minutes to get 2 orders of boneless wings. Asked for the check twice. Probably 12 people in the restaurant.

Caddie Shack is the member's bar for the Point Venture Golf Club…read more It is open to the general public. Yeah, you will pay about twenty cents more for each beer than do the members. You will barely notice the extra expense. * * * The Caddie Shack is probably closer to the look and feel of a British pub than are most of the fake British pubs you find in the United States. No - it is not because they serve British beer. They don't serve bitters or microbrews of any kind. They serve Bud Light and Shiners and Coronas. No it is not because they have wainscoting or tartan carpets or the British Premier League on TV. The building is prefab aluminum sheeting. The decoration is negligible. They have basketball and baseball on TV. They got air hockey, shuffleboard and pool. This place could be a military canteen on an army base. It could be a rec room in somebody's house. * * * So what's so British pub-like about a prefab aluminum shack with bar games and cans of lager beer? What makes a real British pub is the sense of community. It is THE public house in the village. There is no other common place to meet - except church. There is no McDonald's. There is no Starbucks. Where do you go to meet your mates? The local. And there is one and only one local. The minute you enter the pub - you feel like you have walked into a family living room - Because this is where the whole family is hanging out. * * * Point Venture is at the very very tippity tip of Lago Vista. It is a good seven miles of twisty-turny driving from FM 1431. It is surrounded on three sides by water. It is far from everything else in the state of Texas. So the only people who go to the Caddie Shack are the people who live in Point Venture. There is one other restaurant near the marina in Point Venture. But otherwise - the Caddie Shack is what there is. So this is where people come and this is where people hang out. Management makes a point to have music most nights. There are regular poker tournaments. (Big cash penalty if you show up late.) There are big sheets of paper on the wall marking everyone's bet on who is going to win the NFL Divisional Championship games this week and what the point spread will be. A lot of people have signed up for bets. It is not that everyone is buddy buddy with everyone else. (People aren't buddy buddy with everyone else in a British pub either). Married couples sit at their tables by themselves playing Buzztime trivia or watching what's on TV. Groups of three and four play the various bar games. Some couples have conversations, soulful or otherwise, just sitting at the bar. This is the place you go in Point Venture, if you don't want to stay home and watch Netflix. Hanging out here is as routine as hanging out in the snack bar in your dorm. * * * I am not a Point Venture kind of a guy. I could never afford the spectacular houses on the lake. Those houses look small from the road. They go down three or four stories BELOW street level. The lower lakefront levels are palatial and magnificent. I don't play golf. I don't like boats. I don't drive a pick-up truck. (The mansions have two or three.) But Caddie Shack just melds in nicely with the Point Venture lifestyle. Any place that brings people together, serves the function of bringing people together. I like the vibe and feeling of Caddie Shack. * * * Now being a twisted Austin yuppie, I can go back to pursuing my obsessions. I like eight ingredient cocktails. I like unsigned bands with songs in 8/17 time. I like violent Korean movies. I like Iranian braised meat dishes with sour lime. What passes over my plate changes every day. I eat some of the most interesting meals in the world. But when I walk into a place where I am eating, I never recognize a single person.

The League Tavern is a gastropub…read more "Gastropub". That word is so 2010's. A decade ago calling yourself a "gastropub" was the coolest thing in the hospitality industry. Now, it is a lost artifact of another decade, along with Swedish House Mafia and Britney Spears. The League calls itself a retro reminder of the eating clubs of the 1920's and 1930's. It is pretty damm good as a gastropub. It would not really want to be an eating club of the Prohibition era. Menus in that era could be pretty awful. Mashed parsnips. Liver and onions. Greens that have been cooked to death. Tough steaks. Low quality lager beer. The Indian Puddings were all right. The fish was great if it was fresh. I wish they would bring back Welsh Rarebit. But the League sticks to a contemporary menu ... And I am glad they do. Their contemporary dishes are just great. I had a faro salad with grilled shrimp on top. The faro salad was everything I would want a grain salad to be. (I have had some awful tabboulehs and quinoa salads in my time.) The shrimp were completely lovely. Prices are high - but that is what comes with being a gastropub. The concept is: Pay more. Eat higher quality. The Lakeway market will certainly support the League in the prices it wants to charge. The selection on the menu - and for that matter the selection at the bar - is fairly restricted. Having a small menu is not a necessary correlate of being a gastropub. Some gastropubs offer you an expansive range of choices. But careful management of the menu choices means that each and every dish can be polished to a high degree of execution finesse. Practice makes perfect. My guess is that the League envisions itself as a neighborhood place - albeit a rich neighborhood place. Their customers are likely to be regulars. The regulars order their favorite dishes over and over. I myself like my bars and grills to be Cheaper, Funkier and With bigger selections on the menu and at the bar itself. So the League is not exactly my style. But what they do, they do well. They are expanding, opening more branches in more locations. They can do this because the League fills a real need in the Lakeway-Bee Cave market. If a Lakeway resident were to invite me to be their guest at the League Tavern, I would be happy to accept that invitation. Especially if they were picking up the check.

The new manager has hired an awesome new team and everyone seems truly happy to be working here. The bar side is floor to ceiling windows overlooking the lake with 2 flat screen TVs. The Grill side also has great views of the lake as well as a patio overlooking the awesome 3 level pool below. The two 1 star complainers are "Lame!!!!" The Bar and Grill serve the same food and the current menu is a mix of healthy salads and "Weekly Fish Special Prepared With a Heart Healthy Diet in Mind" so to the person complaining that they do not have "chicken fingers on the menu!" go to xyz... and Mr. complainer about "High prices" it's a Hotel Restaurant! and the prices are not anymore expensive than a mediocre hotel restaurant without the awesome views... I have had the Chicken Quesadillas served with Pico and Guac topped with an Adobo sauce ($7) a fresh salad topped with grilled shrimp and nicely seasoned croutons, and a trout topped with smoked almonds and lemon rosemary butter. All past lunch visits have been tasty with great service. Most recently I had a late breakfast here and it was just about as good as it gets! I sat on the patio enjoying the nice weather while digging into my healthy breakfast of Egg White Omelet with spinach, mushroom and pepper jack cheese served with a side of nicely seasoned breakfast potatoes. The breakfast menu is not on-line but it features all the usual egg dishes Migas etc.. The Omelets are 9.00 with 2 options 50 cents extra for each additional and come with breakfast potatoes, grits, muffin or toast. Egg dishes can be prepared with egg whites or egg beaters for the health conscious dinner!

I offered tortilla soup and a turkey club. Both were decent. My husband ordered a fried green tomato BLT. That also was decent. We shared an appetizer of crab cakes and those were good. You could tell they had probably been frozen before, but not bad. A few days later, we decided to try their breakfast. Now this is where they earned their fourth star. I had a pecan waffle with fresh fruit and it was yummy! I also had eggs and some bacon. They were good. But again, I would think it's really hard to screw up eggs and bacon. That waffle though....love! My husband ordered the migas. Now, being that we are from San Antonio, TX we are used to some of the BEST Mexican breakfast food around. So if course we're a little biased. But they were decent.

Three of us had arrived earlier and ordered already and our server came by to greet us two and take our drink order right away if we were ready. We were not so she gave us some time and came back. Throughout the night, she checked on us. At the end of the night, she offered to split all our checks and remembered everyone's orders and how to to accurately split the drinks. Each lady paid for an appetizer. The appetizers were all very good though I would say there are limited gluten free options. The girls shared the Tempura Cauliflower. It looked really good and apparently was also delicious but unfortunately not gluten free. The Charcuterie Board with cheese, salami, pepperoni, and smoked salmon was yummy, as were the brussel sprouts and chicken kabobs. The server said the marinade was not gluten free but I decided to eat it anyways. The chicken was juicy and seasoned well. I really liked the brussel sprouts too. The Dirty Martinis and Paper Plane were great. My friend had the Cucumber cocktail but opted for soda water instead of Sprite and she said it was really good. It looked pretty. The restaurant offers a nice vibe for hanging out and has a great selection of cocktails, wines, and food. I didn't get a chance to try an entree but I'm sure they are good. We had the best server so I'd say this place is a winner.
