Im almost never up in Wadsworth. I was looking for someplace I have never been to before and I saw Captain Porky's. I have mixed feelings about Captain Porky's. The restaurant was kind of cool rustic feeling. They have a very large selection of meals for options that can be a bit overwhelming especially for a first timer like me. At Captain Porky's you order your food at a check in point and grab a seat and wait for your food. There is a large display case of fresh seafoods, another w/racks of ribs and briskets, lobster Mac and cheese, roasted chicken, fish roll stuffed w/crab meat... At a suggestion from a regular customer I got a combination platter that came w/2 main entrees, potatoes or fries, veges, and corn bread or roll. The combination I got came w/the following items * Fried Jumbo Shrimp - Outstanding the best part of this meal * Short Ribs - Mehhh not very tender, decent quality meat w/not too much fat, made better w/the bbq sauce * Garlic potatoes - Very good, slathered in butter and garlic. * Collard Greens W/onions - Very good flavor, scarfed those baby's down * Corn Bread - mediocre at best (skip the corn bread) It looks like they are expanding as there is an addition currently under construction. I've been wanting to try Captain Porkys for some time now and I'm glad I finally did. I called in my order for takeout, because I felt it would be busy during lunch time. When I arrived the only challenging thing was their parking. Thought it would be packed inside but their tables were empty with only a few people in line. Everyone must have been next door at The Shanty. I ordered their combo for $14.99. You can choose two items(I chose calamari & jumbo shrimp) and it comes with your choice of garlic potatoes or steak frites, coleslaw or greens, dinner roll or cornbread. So although it's a bit pricey, you do get a lot of of choices. If only they could give you more than five pieces of shrimp, it would probably justify the price. I will say this though, those five pieces of shrimp were amazing. Lightly battered and seasoned went well with their cocktail sauce. The calamari was also perfectly lightly battered and fried. This may have been one of the best fried calamari I've ever tried. Most places heavily batter their calamari and most taste nearly identical. Not Captain Porkys. The cornbread and garlic potatoes was nothing special, just perfect to fill you up and make it seem like the $14.99 you just spent was spent wisely. I'll definitely be returning. read more

For my first experience here, it was a surprise to find out what's inside... my buddy and I had no idea this was fresh seafood, homemade ribs and homemade pork roast, homemade pies for dessert, and made to order Cajun seafood!! Awesome! Porky's is very clean inside. You can tell they care about their food preparation and customer dining areas. For the hour-and-a-half we were there, there was quite a bit of turn around, plenty of tables filled and plenty of people in line for Dine-in and carry-out. While placing your order at the counter, you can see through the windows of the coolers to see all of the fresh fish and other seafood... lobster tail, crab, shrimp, scallops, alligator. So many choices! There are also plenty of choices for beer and other drinks. I had a full slab of ribs with spicy sauce. They were just average Quality Meat and average sauce. Steamed vegetables on the side, however, were fantastic. The price was reasonable. My body got freshly breaded, fried, jumbo shrimp, and we agreed that they were fantastic. Outstanding. Again, the price was reasonable. The wood decor is deep south, and there are just enough televisions to be able to enjoy sports on TV but not be overwhelmed like in a bar. Love Captn Porky's food. We've never had a bad experience. Except when we ordered through Grub Hub. Twice they forgot the desert. The first time, Grub Hub made a second trip to correct the mistake. The second time, Grub Hub offered a refund. I appreciate that they took responsibility and refunded us the price of the desert. Ordered a variety of the BBQ meats and to say it was awful is an understatement. We ordered the pork belly, it was so dried out it was jerky! Then the garlic potatoes that we had to order with it for $4 was 6 pieces of potato and half of them had black spots on them. I don't know how you under AND over cook the brisket but it was. Looking through the photos of Captain Porky's and reading some of the reviews, I have bookmarked this place awhile ago. I've finally had a chance to give it a try and I lowered my expectations on the place itself (not the food), kind of knowing that it is very casual and small. I came here on a Saturday around 7:30pm and most of the long tables (only 4) were occupied although there were bar stools by the corner of the restaurant. The lady taking the order and the guy who brought the styrofoam containers to our table were friendly and efficient. Here are my personal opinions on what I've tried: FRIED CATFISH - I love the "fatty" taste of this kind of fish because it's the closest I can have to the milkfish belly(pls do not judge)...BUT every bite that I took on each piece was plain fish fat. Even underneath the batter, the fatty taste and fat fish meat was just over the top. I could not finish my order nor did I take home the left overs. RIB TIPS - very dry and had no flavor. The bbq sauce was very tasty though but without the sauce, the meat itself was a disappointment. The CORNBREAD that came with my catfish and rib tip combo was very moist and delicious. This was the only enjoyable item on my combo meal. LOBSTER MAC & CHEESE- this looked good when it was in the window by the counter. Sadly, it did not taste as good as it looked. I can taste the lobster but there were no actual lobster meat in the whole styro container. Also, this was served lukewarm, more on the cold side to be honest. Such a let-down dish. FRIED WALLEYE- my bf ordered this and he liked it. For me, it was bland. FRIED SMELTS - just like the walleye, this dish fell flat although I like the crunch of the fried batter. The dipping sauce would help a little but knowing that the smelt should be flavorful on its own, it is not what I expected it to be. I had too much left over from my order of 1/2 lb so I took this home. It's worse as a left over. The wooden bench that we sat on had a long crack that if the customers won't notice, it could actually hurt once the skin gets in between the cracks. The tables and floor were dirty...of cups, plasic utensils, food at and under the tables...and I don't mind putting away my own trash but cleaning out previous customers' trash on the tables just to have a place to eat, that's a different story. I don't even do that at McDonalds. A little customer service on the dining area wouldn't hurt. Overall, it's definitely a "I shall not return" for me. I gave it a 2 for the many different choices of fresh seafood and also having gator tails and frog legs on their menu. I'll probably try those next time for take out but that will not be happening anytime soon. read more

I have known Dino for years. Captain Porky's was across the street from where I lived in Zion for 23 years. His food has been a major requirement in my diet for half my life! I was finally able to break free and dine at the recently remodeled Captain Porky's restaurant today for the 1st time. It was good to talk with Dino again as he was preparing incredible dishes behind the counter. I had my favorite and what I get most often, the hot link sandwich with greens and potatoes. It was delicious just as I have grown to expect from Dino. The young lady that I treated to this fine dining once again went out of her way to stock her refrigerator and ordered enough for 3 people. She got not 1 but 2 orders of crab leg dinners and a half slab of ribs. She confirmed it was absolutely delicious. I will rate this establishment 5 stars and the highest possible not just because of my friendship with Dino but because I am probably one of the most honest people alive! I give my personal guarantee you will not be disappointed and in fact be awestruck and deeply impressed by their food, service and ambiance of Dino Kallianis' place!
