Date of visit: June 21, 2025 A friend brought me here because he likes that it's on the water and "has a nice view." Not so sure that I agree about the view piece, but it does have a nice, laid back vibe about it and the service was very attentive. I went with the Malibu Wrap because I appreciated that I didn't need to make any substitutions to the food, and imagine my surprise when I encountered a few tomatoes hiding amongst the items that were listed as part of this dish on the menu. Always surprising in this day and age when restaurants are cavalier about surprise ingredients. While I am not allergic to tomatoes--I just don't like them--but what if I was? The water also tasted a bit off (I think they were filling these from a portable cooler) so I didn't drink much, despite the high temperatures on the day of our visit. read more

Went there on a Sunday night (last night) at 6pm thinking it would be quieter with the city slickers headed home. When we pulled up, it was so busy that people had to park in the street. The place was absolutely packed and I had two hungry teenagers. Uh oh.... But hold on. Even though they were slammed, we had a waitress take our order within in 10 minutes. I was expecting 90 minutes to get food. I don't know how Captains did it but we had our appetizer in under 10 minutes and our meals within 20 minutes. Amazing! The food was very good and the waitress stopped by often enough that we never went thirsty. And when I asked for the check, I had it almost immediately. Whatever you folks are doing over there, keep it up. There are so many waterfront restaurants on the Chain that make you wait forever for drinks and food when they are slammed. The band was super great as well! Very engaging and talented. The lead singer even walked through the pavilion while singing and it clearly had a positive effect on the entire place. Had so much fun celebrating my daughter's 30th Golden Birthday at Captain's Quarters. Mel and her team made planning for the party so easy and took care of our party of over 40 like we were family. The views are incredible and standing at the river was so calming. The facility is dog and kid friendly with an out of this world kids park, two indoor bars and they set up another bat under the pavilion which made it so easy for everyone to get their drinks. Not to mention, the live band made it a party . I highly recommend Captain's Quarters for a drop in for dinner and drinks, an outing with your dog's and kids, and especially is you are thinking of having a party. read more

Service with a smile. Grace was our server and she was beautiful both inside and out. She checked on our table often. It was my first time experiencing this hidden treasure. I'm surprised being familiar with Antioch that I'd never heard of this place. I stopped by to meet up with my Fiancé and friends for a drink. The Moscow Mule didn't disappoint however wasn't served in a copper mug. The plastic cup was fine on the patio. Loved the wrap & crispy French fries. Kara celebrated her 50th birthday there with a Barbie bash theme complimented by a pink Barbie cake. I was honored to have been served a piece. I will be returning back. While out boating my girl friends we decided to stop off at Captain's Quarters. The outdoor seating area is nice, especially in the enclosed area. My waitress was attentive initially and then it took 40 minutes to get our food for four of us (perhaps it was an off day for them and short staffed). The Tito's and lemonade was refreshing. Because it's a great location next to I go boating, I may have to give this place a second chance. read more

Went on a Saturday afternoon, place was busy. Liked that it has areas for kid's to keep busy while visiting. Maybe short staffed, not sure but it took over an hour for someone to take a drink order. Then at least another 40 minutes to order food. Food was good, but service has to be stepped up. I am in customer service so I know what it is like to be short staffed. Just always need to explain those situations to customers, then they understand. We were not in a hurry, so it was ok, just hungry. read more

Captain's Quarters is always a good time. I wouldn't call it the best restaurant in the area, but it is fun, inexpensive, and has a large outdoor space. They have bands in the summer, so make sure you follow their Facebook page to see when those dates are - whether you love live bands or want to avoid the extra crowds! Their outdoor area is dog-friendly, which is great if you want to bring your furry friend. From their menu, they have a decent selection of drink and food options. I've never heard someone recommend Captains Quarters for their wings, but we actually think they are the BEST in the area, so try them out! Several other bars and restaurants in the area have self-claimed that title, but we think Captains deserves more credit. read more

They have a great outdoor patio that often has live music. They have a menu you can order from and also grilled corn and burgers that they make outside. Don't have more tables than your kitchen can serve. Telling people the kitchen is closed for an hour on a Saturday at 6 pm because they got 'backed up' is terrible service, and offering shitty hot dogs as conciliation is not an alternative. Have less tables or more kitchen staff. read more

You will never just happen to come by this place if you're just driving along near Fox Lake! A GPS on smartphone app is pretty much required. But what a delight when you do find it. We first visited midafternoon on a pretty spring day, and sitting outdoors under big pato umbrellas, with the lake and marina in view, was just perfect. My wife and I had "captain's burgers" which were cooked perfectly to spec, and delicious. The beer selection was good and specialty drinks were tasty. We want to come back for some specials, including the offer of a full slab of ribs on Fridays for $9.95. We felt welcomed from the start, and our waitress Tiffany was cheery and fun. For an informal meal outdoors in a comfy, pretty and welcoming setting, Captain's Quarters is a nifty discovery. We'll be back! UPDATE We visited again on a Sunday afternoon in April 2018 and it was a very different experience. This time, the dominant look is that it's a bar, just a bar. I suspect that the happy, full menu, sit down meal experience is a seasonal thing. Therefore I'm downgrading my rating to 4 stars instead of 5. read more

Terrible service, unfriendly staff. I wrote a fair review about this business month ago. After communication from Herman B. after my last review, I thought it warranted an update. "So you rated the business poorly because the insects were a problem at an outdoor venue? or were you rating your skillls as a parent for forgetting bug spray?" I had communication from a fellow yelper that he also responded to them in a similar manner. His response to the reviews reflect exactly the unfriendliness & attitude we experienced from the staff during our dinner. I could've overlooked the experience & given them another shot, but now, after this, I won't return. Convenient & entertaining, but service was slow, waitress unfriendly, and food average at best. The playground area for the kids was convenient, and live music entertaining. The restrooms were inadequate for the number of patrons. I supposed that's why porta-potties were hauled in but the thought of having no running water before eating was unappealing. The mosquitos were terrible outside AND inside the restaurant. I walked away with 39 bites on my shoulders alone, and another 20 or so on the rest of my body. My kids got tore up badly too. It was difficult to enjoy dinner, music, and the kids playing because of the bugs. It was my oversight forgetting the bug spray. That's on me, but I also would've hoped if bugs were so aggressive, the restaurant would fog or spray around the perimeter for a more positive experience. Overall, mediocre read more

Great place! Always a fun time. Good for the family during the day too. They always have a live bad and the patio is a great place to sit and watch. The food has never disappointed me and the staff is always very fast and attentive. Many people bring dogs and sit in the back which is great for families coming by boat with dogs. Stopped by for dinner yesterday evening with my family. Owner "Larry" ended up dropping a few f-bombs at my two teenage sons to get off the swing set in front of my two very young nieces. Larry told them he was going to hold them liable and sue them if they broke the swing set while dropping f-bombs at them. He claims there is a "12 year old and younger" sign on the swing set, however no one could locate it. Traumatized, my two young nieces no longer wanted to go on the swing set. When I confronted Larry about this he lied, said he asked them politely to get off the swing set, and they only went higher on it. All witnesses dispute Larry's account. When I told Larry I was going to share my experience with others, he said he didn't care because he has plenty of customers, we have options, and should leave. We honored his recommendation, left, and will never visit again. We did share this experience with others at a nearby restaurant, and they said they were not surprised, seems he's building quite a reputation for himself. Way to go Larry turning what should have been a nice dinner experience into a regrettable one! read more

Food was okay/what you'd expect when you go to a bar. My friends wrap didnt have a lot of chicken in it, mostly lettuce. The service was good. Bathrooms were very disgusting, would recommend going before you come to the restaurant. Do not come here if you care about social distancing. The tables were so close together and most of the servers were not wearing mask. Overall average, would normally give three stars, but the total disregard for social distancing policies and bathrooms knocked it a star down. read more

The wait staff do not wear masks. Saw no santizing stations. Buckets on the table with Salt pepper, ketchup mustard and papertowels. I used my own hand sanitizer to wipe them all down before we used them. We have been their several times over the years and knew what to expect food wise from a lake bar. Came to Captain Quarters on Sunday 8/16 to see the band The Mix but what made our experience more enjoyable was our waitress Tiffany. She was fun, efficient and caring. It was a extremely hot day, she not only brought us pitchers of water and ice but made a bag of ice to use as a ice pack. I will definitely come back to Captain Quarters because of Tiffany. I love coming to this place for lunch. We have a bar we walk to when we are at the Chain so we stay near home at night, but this place is great. We have come either by boat or car. It can be a bit hard to find by car, but it's easy to find by boat. It's in a channel so you don't have to worry about the wave rocking your boat into the pier like you do at places on the lakes. In the summer they open the whole place up so even when you're inside you feel like you're outside. There are multiple bars and TVs and it's a good family place. The food is damn good too! read more

Stopped by car on July 3 for lunch, it wasn't crowded. My 4 y/o grandson was ecstatic they had swing sets and small playground. There was a handful of $4.95 lunch specials M-F. I had the BLT and G-son had the burger off the lunch special menu. Overall the BLT was good, the toast was a little dry. Nice size burger and both came with ample fries which were seasoned quite nicely. The other 2 people had the dollar taco special, they said they were good but I can pass on a ground beef taco which is the only kind they serve. The margarita special was just OK, I've surely has worse. Thumbs up, I will go again but I probably not on a busy weekend. read more

Been a customer for the last 20 years. Best music on the Chain. Great improvements eg: covered pavilion and play area for the kids. HOWEVER, the plumbing on the inside of building is constantly backed up making the toilets in both the Men's & Women's unusable. Just there this past Wednesday (6-26) and spoke with Larry one of the owners about this issue. His flippant response was "To much TP was being used and told a waitress to take care of it" This is a 50 or 60 year old building that has been turned into a bar. Bathrooms are unsanitary and NEEDS to be addressed IMMEDIATELY. Fix your bathrooms and your attitude and my rate will jump up to a 5!!! read more

Don't go here if you want to avoid getting COVID-19. It is like it doesn't even exist up here. Nobody is social distancing in the restaurant. everyone is sitting shoulder to shoulder and kissing and shaking hands and fist bumping. It's pure insanity. the worst part is only a few of the staff are wearing masks when they all should be. And those staff who are wearing masks tend to wear them below their nose. It was a horrifying experience during the middle of a pandemic. We left before a meal was Served. I would not recommend going here during coronavirus time. If you want to stay safe.
