Do yourself a favor if you haven't already been to Triciclo's restaurant location on Vliet St., you'll be happy that you did! Since I work in the area on Tuesdays, I've instituted my own #takeouttuesday mission for carryout on the East Side, before heading home. Crossroads Collective does have limited indoor dining at this time, but I weighed my empanada options and went with the frozen take & bake variety, three large empanadas with the same filling. My faves are the Sweet Potato, and also the Lomo Saltado seasoned beef which was my choice! Take & bake comes with simple instructions, and I even did the egg wash that they recommended. My only wish is that takeaway frozen variety also came with a small sauce, because that would certainly be appreciated. I purchased a small container of the cilantro sauce, which was great! Hit 'em up in the Crossroads Collective! And maybe institute a #takeouttuesday mission of your own!

I could not say "no" to purchasing empanadas to-go during my very first time Crossroads Collective…read more Several were hot and fresh, although they can make them to order (they say it takes about 25 mins) and there is a take-and-bake option as well. I ordered 3 of these unique stuffed pockets: sweet potato, pork, and steak. Each empanada came with a unique dipping sauce. The Sweet Potato was accompanied a yellow pepper sauce, the Pork came with rocoto pepper sauce, and the seco (steak) with cilantro sauce. The pepper sauces were pretty dang zippy - I'm not sure which was which but I could tolerate the milder of the 2. The cilantro sauce was were it was at, I was unaware they sold it buy the bottle but I would definitely purchase it and put on basically everything! My husband said the pork was his favorite (I did not try it), but between the steak and sweet potato, I thought the sweet potato was more flavorful and exciting where as the seco was actually quite bland and reminded me of pot roast. It seemed like 2 of the 3 were much heavier breaded than I anticipated. The regular size empanadas are fairly large and very filling. Purchasing prepared they are $6 each.... the frozen 3 pack is more reasonable at $12 but you can not mix and match. I did not see the minis so I am not sure of the size comparison is to the regular size (those are 5 for $15). Overall, it was a fun and extravagant treat. I guess I was a little turned off when my bill was nearly $20 for 3 empanadas and the employee selected the 25% tip option upon swiping my card (I did tip a little over $2, but $4 for putting 3 empanadas and pre-pared ramekins of sauce in a bag is a tad much in my opinion... I mean, I suffered the effects of the pandemic too...). But, I would most likely get one or two if I was already at the Crossroads Collective - which I plan on visiting again :)

Small space but cozy, intimate feel to it that is beautifully decorated. All the workers were nice and friendly. The food??!! Sooo delicious, truly!! The beef fried rice was my favorite. The beef was sooooooo buttery and good. Cooked PERFECTLY. The flavor of the rice was even better, that wok is seasoned to perfection!! The depth of flavor makes you go for more. The arroz con pollo was just as delicious, big fan of the pickled onions and salsa they paired with the entree. The rice was sooo good, never haf green rice before!! Its like mexican rice with a cilantro base rather than tomato--sooo good! I definitely am coming back!!

We sat in a booth and split a half pitcher of passion fruit sour. We probably would have been fine with a glass each, but the menu only gave the option for a half or whole pitcher. I can't pass up an order of tostones, so that was an easy immediate yes appetizer. I also love a good lomo saltado con bistec, so that was my entrée I thought it was a tad chewy, but still delicious. There were no crumbs left on my plate. Service was pretty quick initially, but the waitress took a long time to come back at the end. It could have been that she was waiting because there was still some drink in our glasses, but it was a little much not to at least come check in and refill waters. I still will be back, especially because it is so close to me now.

La Merenda was on my list of places to check out and I finally had the chance! I made reservations…read moreat 7pm and was quickly seated, or server Inga was very patient and made a few suggestions for us as well. We started with the pink Guava Paloma and the Schilling Local Legends for our drinks. The Pink Guava Paloma tasting amazing and was strong. You were really able to taste the tequila but it wasn't un-drinkable. The Guava was a great blend with the drink and my friend wished he had gotten the same drink because of how good it tasted. The menu was divided up into three different sections; Field, Sea, and Pasture. They also had specials, as well. We tried to get a few items from each section to try different dishes. In the Field section, we tried the Truffle Potato Skins (WI). The potatoes skins were PILED onto the plate. They were more soft than crunchy but tasted amazing. I wasn't really able to taste the truffle but it was still good. In the Sea section, we tried the Sambal Goreng Udang (Indonesia). An Indonesian dish with white shrimp, sambal chili paste, mash potatoes, and coconut milk. Honestly, this was my favorite dish. It was creamy and the mashed potatoes paired so well with the sauce and the shrimp. It had a hint of spice, which elevated the experience for me personally, as I love spicy food. In the Pasture section, we tried the Beef Empanadas (Columbia) and Vietnamese Pork Belly Crepes (Vietnam). The Beef Empanadas came with four pieces and some green sauce. The outside was crunchy and not over fried, the inside was perfectly filled and moist. Would highly recommend it as it was amazing. The Vietnamese Pork Belly Crepes were a little disappointing. I was expecting them to come out like the traditional Vietnamese crepes, crispy outside with the pork belly and other fillings on the inside. Instead it was like an actual crepe mix. It was soft and honestly okay. It wasn't our favorite. As for the specials they were offering, we tried the Pork Tenderloin. The Pork Tenderloin was pretty good, not super dry. It was served on top of potatoes and tasted amazing. La Merenda has a very cozy atmosphere. Low lights and overall just a chill and quaint spot. I will definitely come back for more of the Sambal Goreng Udang and to try out some of their other plates!

We got the truffle Potato Skins it was more like chips but softer than chips with a truffle oil and parm. This didn't have a super truffle flavor in my opinion but still good. The ceviche which was my favorite had ahi tuna, coconut milk, red bell peppers, and diced pineapple I love the sweet aspect of this. We also got the empanadas and mushroom tostadas both were great. The Gnocchi d'Autunno we got was like a nice hug it was such a warm dish in the way you want a warm comfort meal on a cold day. The butter chicken and Argentina style beef we also tried I liked the butter chicken more just because I wish the beef had more chimichurri. I definitely will take friends in the future. There is a dish for everyone here.
