Adel's shop has been a fixture on Oxnard for decades. His shop provides typically reliable service across a range of repairs, especially smog services. Just BEWARE of a tech named Dan. Had to knock off one star off due to a recent experience. Tech Dan is not a certified mechanic. Apparently the shop uses him part time when it gets especially busy. On the shop's premises, "tech" Dan used the shops tools and scanner to perform a simple tuneup. Similar to another poster's experience, my car was rendered inoperable and ultimately towed home. I heartedly recommend Car and Smog, just make sure "tech" Dan does not touch your car. One star deduction. read more

UPDATE: Since I picked up my car from Adel, it has been at the dealership for the past 2 weeks, repairing damage that he did to my engine. I have now paid the dealership $4,000, on top of the $1,750 that I gave to this place, because Adel ultimately did nothing to the car except to create damage and take my money. Not only that, I now have to take the car to an auto body shop because he broke my passenger side door while he had it for 5 weeks. The waste of time, the extensive expense, the inconveniences of not having a car for 2 months, the emotional distress... This man should not be in business for large mechanical jobs. Great place. Came by for a smog check (Star Certified), and I'm so glad I did. I've always dreaded smog checks - never thought I'd actually have a good experience getting one. Price was beyond reasonable, and the gentleman who helped me was honest and very nice. He checked my car to make sure no codes were coming up that would prevent it from passing smog, before doing the official test. There's no indoor waiting area but he brought out a comfy chair in the shade for me to wait in, and he even sanitized it for me. He also wore a mask so I felt very safe in terms of COVID. He was great to talk to, just all around someone I can tell is very genuine and trustworthy and I knew I was in good hands. He's very knowledgable, and will explain things to you to educate so you can make the best decision about your car. He won't talk down to you in anyway shape or form, especially if you are not a car expert. He's genuinely curious about all things cars. I Live in Las Vegas was visiting California and my transmission broke I used a car mechanic in Van nuys I did not know and within a month now back in Vegas the transmission is back to where it started since then he has been in communication with me but all he does is say he's on his way and never show up and it's been well over two weeks of me not being able to drive my car at all because this guy charged me $3,800 to do nothing he says he rebuilt it but that cost you should have put a brand new one in why we build it and obviously he doesn't know how to rebuild anything cuz it fell apart within a month. And now I can't get him to honor his warranty for the life of me everyday he says hes on his way and there's always some excuse like what's your excuse today good thing I'm not holding my breath do not go here read more

Adel is a good guy. I only used his service for my smog inspection. They are a STAR center which is what I needed. He informed me before running my smog test that my car would not pass. Instead of running it and failing, I was able to go to a mechanic and get the repair needed. I first attempted to go back, but they were busy and I did not call ahead. So I went elsewhere. The person at that station was rude and condescending. I left and was willing to wait for Adel to be available. I went back to Adel for the smog because he was kind and helpful. Adel is a good and honest mechanic. Because of that, he's busy and there are a lot of cars. He's not always the quickest, but he's the best. Don't get me wrong, he's not slow by any means, but he doesn't always have the time to call you back to tell you your car is done - he's on to trying to rescue the next guy, He's sort of the greatest! I love him, I refer good people to him and I trust him. You won't find many other mechanics of this kindness, morality and car knowledge.
