If merchant only allows one voucher per Groupon account then they need to let Groupon know so that they will restrict the transaction and show an error message while purchasing the deal.** So please don't waste your time driving there and also fighting with Groupon for the refund later on. George was great! I called ahead cuz I was running around town all day to get a Star smog check, only to be turned away for store circumstances. This was my last resort even though it was closest to where I live it's a tad more pricey, but has Groupon discounts! George on the call was fast to answer my questions if they were open/would fulfill the groupon! When I got there, George was on the ready to aid service. Fixed my car AND my mood right up in less than 10 minutes. Gave me all the paperwork and receipts stapled neatly. Very hard working individual. This gas station + repair location however is super cramped, being right next to one of the busiest intersections in town. Be very careful with larger cars and distracted pedestrians. Just had the easiest car maintenance visit ever at Dr. Smog N Lube. I had a Groupon for a Smog Inspection, and I waited until the very last day to get it done. I called Dr. Smog before I went. They don't take appointments for smog inspections, but I was told they weren't busy at the moment so come on in. There is easy parking at this gas station location, which is a bonus as most auto maintenance shops are almost impossible to get in and out of. There were no issues whatsoever with the Groupon and I was in and out in about 15 minutes. Amazing. I had to pay the $8.75 for the certificate, but I knew that going in. And if you don't get the Groupon, there is a Yelp check-in offer available! This was insanely easy, fast and definitely the most friendly mechanics I've met in LA. Can't recommend enough. read more

I love this man and this place!!! I have never written a yelp review but I needed to shout to the world how great my experience was here. My 2011 honda fit kept failing the smog test and I kept being told that my catalytic converter needed to be replaced. I applied for the CAP program (highly recommend looking into this if you car isn't passing the smog test) and found Armen after getting my approval letter. When we spoke on the phone he was very chill and we set a time for me to bring my car in. I brought my car in this morning and he seemed swamped but got me set up right away. He again explained how the cap program works (they pay 80% if its less than $1500, then $1200 if it's more than $1500). He walked me through what we'd do today, a diagnostic to figure out what was wrong, and then we'd go from there. I didn't have to pay anything until the end. He called me about 30 minutes later and said there was some weird issue and they were going to do a drive cycle. OK, that makes sense, that's what I've been told by all the other mechanics. I came back about 3 hours later and he said whatever the dumb computer issue was had been fixed by their drive cycle and they were going to retest, but most likely I didn't need a cat replaced, the dumb computer just needed to be reset. So he re-ran the smog test and it passed. Ultimately I paid for the diagnostic and the smog pass license, and he told me he had seen this a couple of other times and really didn't want to replace a catalytic converter unless he knew for sure that's what was wrong. I appreciated that, because a lesser mechanic would just do it and charge me. To summarize, Armen is my new mechanic, I love this place, it's across the street from Portos, and definitely look into the CAP program if your car fails the smog test! read more

I finally had to give up because I'm driving around a vehicle that isn't registered for months. These guys fixed it. This was one of the best experiences I've had with a mechanic. I was going through Smog Check hell trying to get my car to pass, but one of the permanent codes kept my check engine light on so my car would not pass the smog check. Armen, who is incredibly intelligent and loves what he does, gave it go and repaired my car. I'm writing this to respond to a recently posted race based or accusatory "bad review" of this business on this platform. I came in to my appointment this morning and the business owner was distraught and stressed about an unpleasant interaction that turned into a bad review in which he was basically accused of being racist or biased against African Americans..... As I wait for my car to be serviced I have read user King's review and am now writing this NOT in defense but support of the people at dr. Smognlube I being an African American man of modest means have now been a loyal customer of this place easily for close to a decade. I lived in the area and since they were close I came here.... since day 1 because of constan and consistent good service, honest simple straightforward communication of car issues, my options and referrals to solid places for things they weren't equipped to do I have become a loyal customer. I have been to lots of mechanics , oil change centers, tire places and smog shops and I think we can all agree it's unsatisfying when they are shady ,dishonest or do poor quality work for high prices etc. So if you're anything like me when you find an excellent car service center you stick with them. 100% of my interactions over the years with at least 3 vehicles (I like old cheap cars don't judge me) have been stellar. He's not changing water to wine here but if it's car stuff whatever is needed is always done to my complete satisfaction every single time. These guys are not my family or friends at all but when I need car things done and I show up to my appointments they are my family and friends. In fact I have over my years of dealing with the folks at Dr. Smog N Lube moved a few times to different parts of LA (Monrovia, Hollywood, Koreatown and Downtown LA) I'm not a rich guy BUT instead of going through the process of looking for close places in my new neighborhood I drive the distance in shitty LA traffic to come see these guys for my car needs. It doesn't hurt that there's good food(Porto's bakery kitty corner from them! These are a lot of words I've typed here but basically as a black or African American client of theirs...... they have never made me feel uncomfortable or unwelcome. I trust their fairness and skill so much that I have brought cars I was shopping for them to tell me if I should buy or not. I have brought car issues I wasn't sure they specialized in to them because I honestly don't want to deal with unvetted strangers. AND on a very personal level (I'm now not ashamed to say) when I was struggling financially I had a car issue that turned out to be a combination of problems that came with a fat price tag, after his diagnosis I started to ask if I could fix a little here and a little there and come in as I had money to do those things. This man told me which ones were the priorities, which ones I could put off for later AND which ones I could do myself on the cheap! The priority fixes (cracks and leaks in the engine as well as a basic tune up) weren't my first choice due to cost but he offered without my asking that if he could trust me to make payments when I could afford and not run off without paying that I could leave my car for him to take care of. I'm sorry user King but if this isn't a good human that's not racist and greedy! I don't know anything about people. This car technician who I came to see was visibly distraught that someone accused him of racism. As previously stated I may not know much about people but I believe racists don't lose sleep over being identified as such. I also noticed this in our conversation and this is a nuance I have become accustomed to paying attention to. He did NOT ask me if I thought he was racist... or if as a black man he had ever made me feel any racial tension from him or his business! After explaining the incident that led to the race based review he was seeking my advice on what he could do to appease you ( King the user that made the accusation) I thought not long or hard and I told him this.... do nothing that guy deserves nothing. I then suggested he contact Yelp and hopefully they can see from past reviews and the language in that particular one that it was just malicious and that racism isn't a problem here and that hopefully Yelp has the wherewithal to just remove it. That's all the guy deserves a deleted malicious review. There's bad people of every race including mine... so I apologized to him on King's behalf. Are you interested in paying top dollar for a miserable oil change? Look no further than Dr. Smog N Lube. I stopped in to get an oil change for my Lexus with a Groupon and the total somehow came to $77 while having to pay an additional $17.00+ on top of the Groupon. What a complete rip off -- this would have totaled $57 for the same thing at Valvoline. As soon as I turned in and saw that it was located at a gas station, red flags went up everywhere. I figured perhaps I can't judge a book by it's cover and cleared my mind of the negativity and then went in unbiased. Armen (I believe he is the owner) is rude and snaps at you. Every red flag was exhibited and yet I still gave them my business, so that's on me. Long story short, he hit me with a surprise $17 additional charge on top of the groupon I bought which effectively cancels out any savings I would have had on Groupon. He also doesn't tell you this up front, only after the service was completed. Rather unethical in my opinion. The surprise mostly came from the $8 "premium" cartridge filter which my car in fact did not need. After paying and went home, I wanted to investigate into this so I called up Valvoline to get a comparison, and the employee who looked up the requirements for my make & model confirmed that my car would only require a standard filter, NOT the premium cartridge one. This contradicts the need for the $8 premium filter and thus proved that Dr. Smog & Lube scammed me. Buyer beware. They think that because you are a woman, you wouldn't know what's going on and you easily become a target to take advantage of. If it weren't for such a small amount, I wouldn't have paid and drove off. Armen, keep the $8. Hope it was worth risking the reputation of your business. read more

Avoid this Smog shop especially if you used Groupon. Once you arrive and mention you have a Groupon to use they push you to the side to wait longer. The guy hooked up the OBD reader to my car, did not say a word to me. He marked my Groupon as used then proceeded to tell me "Your car is not in the ready state to Smog test it, just go drive 25 miles so the computer system can be ready to start the actual Smog test then come back but you have to pay a retest fee."
