These folks have taken over the old Hopewell Tire location and the difference is noticeable. The customer waiting room has been completely remodeled and spruced up.The actual service bays are a lot cleaner too. But it's not just the decor that gotten spruced up. There seems to be a new level of professionalism. My first experience with them was to get a full Onboad Diagnostics scan. I called to inquire and David(mgr) said they could do as soon as I could get the car over( I live about 15 minutes away). They got right on it as soon as I got there and 15 minutes later. The tech had his report ready, giving a clean bill to the car. No charge for the service. A week later I took the car in for an oil change with a discount coupon and again..service was on the spot. The tech took the time to note the old oil was "clean" at the 5k change interval. I can't speak to the issue of pricing because the oil change was with a discount coupon and the other service was free. It seems the back of their invoices are printed with generic service schedules and (I'm assuming) standardized pricing quoted in something like Motors Manual. I used to take a Chevy Spark to them for routine maintenance and oil changes, and pretty much every time I went, they'd say that something else needed fixing. I'm always worried that people are taking advantage of a young woman in places like this, but I okay'ed what they suggested, and they always did good work. (Plus, some of it I knew was true and needed to be done.) Well, I was in a wreck and that Spark was totaled. I replaced it with a Nissan Kicks and just recently had my first oil change there since the accident. I got to the counter to pick it up and asked the man at the front desk if anything else needed attention, or if the tires needed to be rotated/changed, and he said no -- everything looked good. So, I got out of there with just an oil change, which makes me feel like this place is honest. My biggest complaint is that they don't actually seem to call/text when your car is ready. My husband and I have both had to call at the end of the day to ask about the status, and it seems that they'd either had it ready for a while and no one reached out, or that they'd already decided they needed to keep it for more work and no one reached out. Also, I hope the sign for Andrew Clyde that's near them isn't *from* them. Not a fan of Clyde's, or of businesses that make their political leanings public. A perfect trifecta - expensive, slow and dangerously careless. We recently had $4K of front end work done on my sister's truck, and this morning the upper tie rod on the passenger side fell off. The nut that was supposed to attach it was nowhere to be found - who knows how long she had been driving like that. To add insult to injury, she had gotten the feeling that the job wasn't a priority in spite of the cost because they kept telling her they "just had one more thing to do," and the job took 2 full work weeks after they had the parts. Young people or parents of young people, please think twice before spending your hard-earned money here. I foolishly listened to these raving reviews and sent my daughter to this place! Now we are out over $2000, and her car still is not working. She had the car towed to them last month and told them the problems she was having. After they inspected it they told us that it was a completely different issue. We agreed to the charges, the work was done, and we paid our money. She barely made it down the street before she was calling me crying that she was on the side of the road again. We got the car back to them and this time after inspecting it they told it was the original thing that we reported to them from the beginning! I know we don't know much about car repair, but I assumed that the diagnostic test was so the right thing gets fixed the first time! Then they had the audacity to quote us a new repair price of more than double what we paid for the repair that the car apparently didn't even need. I'm not sure where all the caring and considerate people that are mentioned in all the reviews are. The person who is supposed to be in charge is named Andrew. I would not recommend them to anyone. They kept my vehicle for six days, charged outrageous fees for work that I'm not exactly sure they did. When I left, I noticed my steering wheel wasn't on straight and the car drifted severely to the left. I called and Joshua told me that he thought he had told me that they "hadn't gotten around to doing the alignment yet and their machine was broke but I could bring it back sometime and he would take it down the street to a buddy to get it done". He never said any of this when I picked up the car. He had called and said everything was done and ready for pick up. I have been a customer of Hoepwell Tire for years. Today was the last day I will ever do business with them. They charged me almost $1,500, in increments of $400 to $500. The car is barely worth that amount of money. If I had known the repairs were going to be so extensive, I never would have done it. There is an element of trust you must have in a mechanic. They violated that trust when they couldn't 'even fix the problem that I brought the car in for. Don't be sorry like me. read more

Had my car towed in, explained my problems, then caught a ride to work. They diagnosed the problem and gave me a price that day. The car was fixed the following day and they allowed me to pay over the phone and pick up after hours. In all, I spent about five minutes at the shop... which is a shame because the staff was nice as can be and their waiting room is amazing (drinks, satellite tv, wifi, and comfy chairs). Not sure exactly where to begin. I gave the owner and manager plenty of time to respond before going public on social media. It took more than 3 weeks to repair a tire. Once I finally got it back, I saw where they crushed the front panel and stole expensive sunglasses that were left the car. Zero stars. I would not recommend Hopewell Tire and Auto Repair for ANY mechanical work. They showed the highest level of deceit and the lowest level of professionalism that I've ever experienced. On top of that, their prices are egregious. I was willing to pay more since I was told the repair would only take a day. It actually took 4 days to get back a vehicle that no longer cranks. Any good review posted longer than a year ago was written prior to the current manager, receptionist, and mechanics. Full details are below. I called on Monday morning. I explained to John (the manager) that my vehicle was mildly shaking. I changed the spark plugs and noticed some oil in the wells. I asked if the cause for the shaking/oil leak could be the valve gasket cover. He said I would have to bring it to the shop for a $100 diagnostic test. This did not count towards the repair. I drove the vehicle to the shop with a perfectly cranking engine. The exact comments on the written report were "valve cover needs replacing, plug wire caps are covered in sludge". Valve gasket replacement = $578.03. The part = $50. "Sludge" and replacing brand new spark plugs = $328.15. Thankfully I declined to pay that amount for "sludge". John said it would be ready Tuesday by lunch. No call was made. I called Wednesday. He said it would be ready that morning. False. I called after lunch. He said it was being test driven and would be ready at 2:00. He handed me my key and not a single vehicle issue was mentioned. The vehicle didn't crank. John said the battery just needed to be jumped. False. The battery was perfectly fine. He then claimed it was the "sludge" on the wire caps and told me he never said the problem was fixed. In that case, how was it taken for a test drive? In that case, why hand me my key to drive home? A mechanic named Dmetri looked at the vehicle for 5 minutes and claimed that it was a major engine issue. I asked why such a major issue was not found during the $100 diagnostic test and why their labor rates were so high in the first place. Dmetri had this to say. In regards to the diagnosis, "I don't get to choose which vehicle I work on". This statement implies that the original mechanic should have noticed it. The original mechanic, Kong, saw that the vehicle was no longer cranking. He never came over to look at it and never said a word. In regards to the labor rate, Dmitri said "reasonable prices don't stay in business...which is why I no longer have a business". He then said it could be the coil pack. I reluctantly agreed to let him replace it, given my limited options. I waited 3 hours to make sure it was done. During that time, they lost my key and had to ask me what it looked like. Finally, the coil pack was replaced but my vehicle would still not crank. I said I was going to have it towed back to my house. I had driven it to the shop myself and now it was broken down due their own negligence and incompetence. Before I called my insurance, the owner Luke finally went out to look at the vehicle. It forcefully cranked and the engine was shaking uncontrollably. He believed it was a compression issue and offered to do a compression test. He said it would be done Thursday morning. No phone call, so I called. John said the compression test showed an engine issue. It would have to be taken apart or replaced. I told him that was not going to happen and that I would get the vehicle towed. He simply said okay and hung up. I went to pick up my key. The receptionist and mechanics were all just sitting around in the garage. The receptionist gave me the key. I asked if Luke was there. He wasn't so I asked for his number. She claimed not to have it. I found it and called to see if any resolutions would be offered. He was the only one to actually show any true concern. Still, he did not offer to fix the damage that was done. He explained my options to fix the engine. I said I no longer trusted his mechanics and my engine cranked fine before bringing it there. Ultimately, I had the vehicle towed to my house. Four days later and $800 wasted. read more

I went to Hopewell for years and have many good experiences; however, experiences over the past year and a half have not been as positive. The warm and friendly atmosphere created by a very friendly front desk clerk left with the departure of said clerk. Mechanic turnover and in some cases apathy greatly reduced the quality of service. Specific examples: over a span of a couple of years I took one of my cars in with an overheating issue and over those two years this issue was never fixed - not the replaced thermostat or hoses or flushed radiator. Every diagnosis cost me money and none worked. In the end this lack of competence cost me money when I wanted to trade said car in and it overheated upon assessment. In addition, said car had a hood latch problem that was never fixed. Another car had a starting problem that took them 3 visits to fix. This was finally determined to be a new battery even though they told me they had tested the battery (they obviously had not). This dishonesty finally drove me over the edge and I will not be back. Other issues: they are typical mechanics who take advantage of those of us who do not know as much about cars. They overcharge and mark up parts. Labor costs are ridiculous. They do not respect women. Woman at front desk is an issue as is iterated in other reviews. read more

We have been taking our cars here for about 6 years now. We have always had a five star experience. I have gotten to know several front desk folks at Hopewell and liked them all very much. My families 5 star experience has never changed over 6 years now. Here are a few examples. My first trip to Hopewell was due to my wife car stalling out and not wanting to start for several hours after the stall even leaving her stranded at the store for several hours. We took it to the dealership twice and because they could not get the car to repeat the same behavior they told us there was nothing they could do. Luke on the other hand, determined to fix this issue for us, took the time to drive the car for several miles a day in order to get the car to stall again. Long story short they went above and beyond and was able to fix a complex electronic/ computer issue with a modern car that the dealership could not. Every time I go to have routine maintenance done I am always greeted by friendly staff and often time the owner comes out to say hi and ask if we need anything. They have free cokes Y'all. Other places have old coffee and expensive vending machines. My In Laws for Christ sake are never satisfied. Ever. They delay vehicle maintenance at their home in Florida and wait until they come visit Athens because they have such a high opinion of Hopewell Tire and Auto. Lastly They have been known to take customers work who drop off their car early and then drop there car off at the office for them. How many stars is that worth???? Hopewell Tire and Auto charged me 110$ to run a diagnostics test on my car when I brought it in suspecting a bad alternator. They told me I would not be charged a diagnostics fee beforehand as well. Then they tried to charge me 800$ to replace my alternator. The toyota dealership quoted me 245$ for the same repair. Luckily I know a think or two about cars so I replaced it myself and avoided the scam. Don't use Hopewell tire and Auto. They will rip you off for sure. read more

I have gone to this place off and on for over 10 years. So has my husband. Well, last time I went I got 4 new tires and an alignment. My car veered to the left. I called them and they said their alignment machine was broken andthat I should go somewhere else to get it checked. So I did. Alignment was off. They said they would fix that problem. When I asked how they were going to do that, they mentioned they had an older, more time consuming method. I let them realign my car. Now it veers to the right. Another time I had them install a "odd" piece they were unfamiliar with. Wish I had taken it to the dealer. It would have been half the price. I paid these guys $300 dolaars for labor while they were trying to figure out how to attach this piece to my radiator hose. Three strikes and you are out. But seriously, if you need an alignment, call to see if the machine is working. read more

Beware they will run tests that you never agreed to without quoting you a price and then expect you to pay them for work you never agreed upon. The warranty is also a farce. I came in to get my AC checked and fixed. I asked them to look at the car. Once they had looked at it they said I owed $105 in diagnostics that was never mentioned or agreed upon. I let this slide and once parts and labor had been charged for the first fix I thought my troubles would be over. Then the air conditioning went out sporatically after the work they did. I brought it back, they said they would look at it and their warantee would cover it if it involved the work they did. They didn't tell me they would need to run another $105 diagnostics test and then expected me to pay it after it had already been done. When asked about the problem they said "it didn't exist before they had done the work". Though they denied vehemently that it wasn't their fault that it now existed only after they worked on the car. tl;dr They'll steal as much money as they can from you as possible. read more

The staff was friendly and up front with all the work needed. They offered many ways to pay and even to hold the car over the weekend. From what I could tell, these guys were an honest bunch, especially for a first-time customer with out-of-state plates. I'll probably return if I run into any more problems soon. read more

If you choose to go here, please get a second opinion before having them fix anything! I'm new to the area, and I took my car for a failed emissions test because I live in a county that requires one. They gave me an estimate of $1200, along with a lengthy list of required and suggested repairs. I asked for a day to think about it. In the morning they called me back and said they were mistaken, and it was actually going to be $1800 because, they said, my car's manufacturer had redesigned the part I needed and they were now much more expensive. I asked what was the price if they just did a simple tune up...the quote was $950. I immediately went and picked up my car, (they charged $107 just for the diagnostic) and took it somewhere else. The car was fixed for $200 which included an oil change. This garage also told me the suggested repairs didn't need to be done. The car passed emissions and runs perfectly. I'm not sure if this inconsistency is due to my being a single woman, or if they simply aren't as knowledgeable, but I would just suggest getting a second opinion before allowing them to do any major, (or minor) repairs. read more
