I hit the Yelp find-a-service thing and it sent out requests to multiple locksmiths in the area. I'm assuming I'll have to wait minutes, hours, or even days for quotes. Then only seconds later, I get a response from USA Lock and Key, mentioning a flat rate of $79.99 for nearly immediate service (25 minutes away). Let's get it! When the locksmith Haim arrived, I knew right away this was a very professional locksmith who knows what he's doing and he's been doing it for a long time. His clean compact van was essentially a well kept toolbox, even had a key cutting tool in the back. What's more, he had a display with an example dimple key knob, residence knob, and commercial grade knob to show me the differences, while also discouraging bluetooth/smart doorknobs. As the pro he is, he verified my ID and address before getting to work. He gets to work and I noticed, the entire time he had METRO PD license displayed around his neck so I pick his brain about it. Sketchy locksmiths may do work to scope out a place, duplicate keys, or damage knobs to scam customers into buying parts, so it's important that your locksmith be registered through the police department. He even stated he occasionally gets called for Metro assistance. Whoa. Just minutes into the work and I was already into my home. Haim was very knowledgeable, professional, and you could tell he puts a lot of care in his work. Hopefully I won't lock myself out again, but if I do, this is the guy. By the way, its been a whole day and I got the second quote from another business.

He charged me $299.00, $175.00 for the "custom" cover and $110.00 for labor plus tax. After a year later due to a problem with "Joey and his Son" making excuses as to not having the part in and that I tried to dispute the charge (in which made Joey very upset). Joey told me to "come back next week" and he will put the cover and lock on. Today (04/22/2026) he put it on my bike holding it on with tie wraps, it didn't even look like the picture he showed me on his computer! Finally, a locksmith physical brick and motor store = offer more affordable prices if things aren't urgent. Example a fob key swap service (smart entry)/not programming is $25. They take credit card. Clarification of what I got done: + Aftermarket fob key (I brought via Amazon$10) but wanted it to be swapped with my aftermarket fob key with smart entry chip = $25 cash that day. Anyone can swap it BUT that smart chip requires more delicate hands and carefulness that I don't trust my clumsy self. Prius 2008 key. + My forgetful self also forgot the new battery replacement I already have at home. That ends costing $20 for a new one here.....steep. = $45 service and battery from them. POTENTIAL SCAM / DECEPTIVE SERVICE WARNING…read more Expensive dealer quotes led me to this locksmith-- I lost the key to my 2021 Audi Q3, and Audi quoted me $1,000-$1,500 for a single key. Most locksmiths told me this model was dealer-only and could not be done elsewhere. Promised service and upfront payment-- A locksmith contacted me, said he could help, and quoted $800 for one key or $950 for two keys. I confirmed the service was guaranteed, and sent half the payment ($475) via Zelle. First visit failed, then extra charges-- On his first visit, he spent time looking at the car but did not complete the job. Afterward, he requested additional photos of the dashboard and ignition. Once I sent them, he claimed he ordered the wrong key and demanded $170 extra labor, shifting responsibility onto me. Unnecessary late-night visits & colleague in Germany-- Over the next week, he returned multiple times, removed parts, and said he needed help from a colleague in Germany, scheduling a late-night visit so the colleague could access my car remotely. He later claimed the ECU might be stolen, which was false -- the car worked perfectly before he touched it. He said for $1500 he could replace it with a new one.. I declined. Money taken, no refund-- After a week of delays and no results, I asked for my money back. He said he had already given the money to his colleague in Germany and refused to refund me. I filed a formal dispute with my bank and reported the transaction as fraudulent, but Zelle treated it like cash, so I could not recover the $475. I also have screenshots of all texts showing his guarantees, the quotes, and later changes. Finally I called Audi back and they said they could resolve the problem without issue Eventually I just went to the Audi dealership, paid $1,200, and they made the key without any issues -- no stolen ECU, no extra fees, car fully functional. Final warning-- Maybe he has helped others, but in my case, the service was never completed, the $475 I paid upfront was never returned, and I am still waiting for my refund. This is no way to treat a customer -- whether it's outright fraud or something equally deceptive, it left me frustrated, taken advantage of, and deeply disappointed. I'm sharing this so others can make an informed decision. I asked for a simple key and he said he could do it, I paid him, he indeed could not do it it nor give me a refund because he couldn't do it. In this way of doing business it's okay to keep money from a would be customer even if the job was never completed, not cool.
