LEFT MY CONTROL ARM BOLTS LOOSE! I was trained to be an automotive technician. I work on all my own vehicles. I've worked for Honda and Acura dealerships servicing cars. I know what I'm talking about here. This place has uneducated, rude, dishonest and lazy individuals that do alignments. Namely Assan, who did my alignment. He struggled to figure out how to loosen reverse threaded turnbuckles to adjust toe and camber. Getting obviously annoyed and frustrated he took 45+minutes to do a fairly easy job. After I got home, I decided to check the locking nuts that holds the control arms adjustments. Found 2 loose. (See picture) which means the $140+ I just got done and paid for is not correct anymore. Not to mention if I didn't check, the arm could have come off on the highway doing 70MPH causing a SERIOUS ACCIDENT! Went back today and the manager is completely unwilling to admit the anything was loose. Told me that, "it was checked and verified".... Right. So I walked out! Never coming here again and neither should anyone else. NOT HAPPY! read more

beware of this place !! do not allow them test drive your vehicle unless you come along on the ride. also beware of their diagnosis. carx is known for breaking things on your car that were not broken before, so they can make more money on you. they have been know to ram vehicles against curbs and potholes to charge more for repairs. always get a second opinion when dealing with any carx shops but definitely when dealing with this one in particular. this location has been the subject of numerous consumer complaints with the better business bureau and have not had a good standing with them for many years. read more

These guys are super nice and you can always find a coupon if you keep your eyes open in the mail. I was here before it even opened thinking that would help get it and out but there were already 3 people ahead of me. So the early bird does not always catch the worm. Saturdays are busy and there's just no escaping it. I work all week so I have no other choice but if you do I would suggest coming a different day. But the guys are great and work really hard and try to get you out as soon as they can. But it's looking like it will take about an hour. So that's a good chunk of my morning. Their lobby is also really nice. Free coffee. Nice and clean. Food network playing in the background. Its easy to pass the time. I'm definitely coming back. Thanks guys! read more

Well, they now are a franchise, and I'm just not happy. My husband got an oil change and the did a decent job, but it was no stellar service. They've got the same mechanics, for the most part, as they had previously... but its not Chris running the show, and the owners don't give me the same feeling of confidence. Recently my husband smelled coolant so he brought it in, and it turned out it was the fuel pump... well, after it was fixed he still smelled it, went back later in the day and they said everything was fine... days go by and he still smells it so he goes in and insists that they put it up and take a look... ooops, there's a loose hose. Well, thanks so much for really looking at it the first time he brought it back! Anyway, after years of going to this CarX, we're done and finding a new garage. Too bad, but we have to do what we have to do and this CarX just isn't cutting it anymore. read more

I brought my 2008 KIA Sportage into this Car-X shop that I have never been to. Jeff, Tony, Joey and Demitri were really nice and personable. I had to leave my car over night at the shop and they were kind to drive me home. I am very happy with the work they performed on my car. When we discussed my muffler pipes and the sound coming out of them, they suggested I could patch the pipes temporary. I told them that I will be traveling to Arkansas in a couple months and need to have my car in tip top shape. I don't need it to break down on me when I am traveling. So, I had them replace my muffler system. I have nothing but good things to say about these men. Horrible Experience! They damaged my car and instead of telling me let me drive off and seize my engine. When I tried to talk with them and let them look at it, he asked if I had full coverage insurance. The reason, "we ain't payin for nuthin" I got my oil changed there a week before my car lost all its oil, how they don't think it was their fault I will never know. Staff is really nice but for a good reason! I normally do not write reviews, however, in this case it is a MUST!! I went in for an estimate on a rack and pinion, shocks and struts. Came to $2,200! After shopping around I bought parts for $460 and Austin Auto Repair in Chicago did the work for $450!!!!!! I saved over $1,200 in what I see as price gouging!!! Over charged, over sold for a part not needed, broken counsel, broken gear shift, no acceptance of fault/liability and liars saying they would reimburse--but they denied. - Went in for a locked gear shift and told it was a wiring issue for the tail lights; $170. - Three weeks later went in for locked gear shift and told it was a horn wiring issue; $149 because they had to replace BOTH horns. - When pulling away, I noticed gear shift was too loose and didn't stop between gears; they opened the counsel and said it was normal to go from neutral through last gear without pushing button; - denied pulling up the counsel, which they would have had to for the wiring/fuse box they allegedly tested. - said they would only pay for damage to counsel if I could relay it back to the horn (one of which was not needed). read more

This is already going back a few years, but those at Car-X destroyed the engine in my car! All in all, between what I had paid them, and the cost of a rebuilt engine, then having someone else install it, cost me nearly $5,000.00! Their corporate offices would not cover my damages, even going through a lawsuit against them, they probably spent three times that much denying their responsibility in attorney fees! There was no question that they were responsible for the destruction of my engine! I wouldn't trust Car-X, or their mechanics to even wash my car! read more

Will never go back! And, will tell everybody I know not to... I went in for an oil change. They did not check my fluids nor tire pressure like other locations do. Moreover, turns out they overfilled the oil. I was told by a private mechanic, who checked my fluids, that such thing can cause serious damage...He also drained some oil to get it to the proper mark. If you can break it, it's a good bet they can fix it. I have two caddy's and a jeep and they keep them all road worthy. From headlights to 4wd components, they even fixed my snow plow. They may be considered a "chain " auto repair store, but trust me, you are getting a local store feeling with this crew. The entire staff is friendly, helpful and most importantly knowledgeable . They will even give you a ride home after dropping off your car. I started going ther over a year ago when i had 4wd problems on my jeep and a snow storm coming. I had a slow leak in one of my tires. I stopped in for them to repair it since I was driving by. I was told it was a rim leak and the rim needed to be cleaned and everything resealed for $45. I have never had a rim leak repair so I had no idea of whether this was a fair price and I didn't want to go home and start calling around for estimates so I had the repair done there. Afterwards my son mentioned that $45 plus shop supplies & tax for a total of $47.97 was on the high side so I called 2 other similar establishments in the area for a price. One place quoted $20 and the other $32.95 for that type of repair. This was the first time I was ever here and don't think I'll be going back. Hopefully they did the repair properly but only time will tell. On the up side, I had a free cup of coffee whoo hoo. read more

After paying an outrageous bill, I drove 5 miles & the BRAKE light came on only to find out the fluid was EMPTY & now all over my driveway. First thing Monday morning back to the shop, the manager doubted I had the car towed, they put the car on the lift & the manager says "yep must have defective parts from my supplier" He then proceeded to stand in the corner of the shop smoking while the steam was building up & coming out of the top of my head. Car X did fix the car & feel the problem was solved with a offer for a "free" oil change. Did the manager really think I would ever go back to that shop. The wimpy owner refused to take or return any of my calls or respond to any emails. I called the cooperate office the person I dealt with was polite but not much help. read more

Last September after an oil change they told me I needed new brakes. I was skeptical and told them I would think about it. I let my son take my car (although not a mechanic, he knows lots about cars). He said my brakes were fine. Today I took my car to the Ford dealer for the 30,000 mile maintenance. They told me my breaks were STILL fine (7 months later). I hate places or mechanics that try to take advantage of someone who is not a mechanic and is relying on a business or a person's honesty. On my way back from the Ford dealer, I stopped in at Car-X and explained what happened. The manager said the technician that had checked my car last September was no longer there and the manager from that time had also been let go. Yeah right..... too little too late. read more

I took a chance based on other reviews to call this shop about my truck. I called to ask if they can take a look at it along with explaining what the problems are. I went over shortly after talking to them, they looked at truck with no problem. They did a throug o exam, which I had only a couple concerns of my own for imediate repair. I am a female, do know about vehicles ( of course I didn't mention that) and honestly they only told me about one item that needs to be fixed that I didn't know about. I was extremely pleased to know that I wasn't "taken for an idiot". I took truck back next dayto have one of the items fixed....they did it exceptionally well! I was in and out within an hour and still had my whole day left over, and the cost was cheaper than what I was quoted by a different shop. The guys there are very professional, easy to talk to and explain everything!!! I do need more work done as I can only do a little bit at a time, so these guys definitely do have a new customer as long as I own vehicles. read more

I'm so glad I was passing this Car X, during the last snow fall we had. I hit a pot hole, causing my tire to start leaking. I arrived at 5:40pm. The store closes at 6. The manager Tony went out of his way to locate a tire and have it installed at a very reasonable price. Even after regular closing hours, Tony and his technician still took care of my tire, without rushing to close. They even offered to make a fresh pot of coffee while I wait. Needless to say, It was my first time there. During the repair, Tony took time to educate me on all aspects of car service 101. I felt very comfortable having my car serviced here. I will definitely go back. I never knew they were a full service shop. I always thought Car X only did mufflers. I actually set an appointment for my next service in advance, which was great!!! Thank Tony and his technician! You made my experience very pleasant. I'm not used to that at the dealer. read more
