He has great customer service skills. As a woman it can be hard to trust some mechanics, but Bill struck me as honest and trustworthy. I was in and out of there quickly because they happened to have the part I needed in stock which was great! I think I was there only just over an hour to have the pipe between my converter and muffler replaced. The only reason I took a star off has nothing to do with the service, but it was a 90+ degree muggy day and there weren't even any shades in the waiting room and the air couldn't bring the temperature below maybe 84. This place is a complete scam! They took the $160 diagnostic fee and told us that the repair would be 6k with a whole list of replacement parts and repair needed. We towed the car to another nearby repair shop and it was a simple repair that cost under $200. I had service with discount tire and i needed an alignment for my car and i went there for an alignment the store manager jmal gave me discount based on the service with discount tire. And i ended up bringing the car back to them after i found out that my hubs needed attention, so the guy says bring ur car and there was no appointment needed and they took good care of my car on spot. No written itemized estimate was provided prior to work as required by IL law and Jason sells the warranty on brake pads per the $120 advertisement even though it is an extra fee. He won't resurface your brake rotors to save you $$ like Schaumburg Honda will. If you can see what is wrong then you should go across the street to Midas and talk to Matt or go to the repair shop of your choosing. This place doesn't even deserve one star... I took my car here yesterday for an oil change. I dropped it off early in the morning and picked it up in the afternoon, I work in the area so it's convenient for me to do it this way. I received a call from the manager, Jamal, stating that my rear tire had one nail in it. I asked him if the tire can be patched and he instantly said no and that the tire could not be repaired. In other words, he wanted me to buy a brand new tire. Also, the detailed report that they emailed me showing what needs to be fixed states that there is a puncture in the tire in a "repairable area". Since they were unable to patch the tire for me, I kindly declined their service and asked not to be charged for a new tire. I went to pick up my car and drove it to my local neighborhood tire shop. When I arrived, they took a look at my tire and found 2 additional nails in it and stated that it looked like these two nails were purposly placed on my tire. They brought the tire to me and showed me where the 2 nails were and where the 1 original nail was located. If carx would have found more than 1 nail in my tire then I'm almost 100% certain that they would have mentioned that over the phone and would have highly Suggested that i bought a new tire in that exact moment. Like I mentioned earlier, they only said that they found 1 nail and never mentioned anything else about other nails In the tire. I couldnt believe that someone could do something like this just because I wasn't giving them additional money for additional services. They could have caused me to get into an accident on the expressway if the tire would have popped... I will never return to this CarX again and i highly suggest any new customers be very careful when brining your car in for any service at this location. read more

(previously rated 5 stars) Oil changes are fine, but I had a complete brake system replacement and another part replacement and both parts had to be replaced after a few months costing me more money. They use cheap parts and then you have to have them replaced and pay again. Jim-Head mechanic- is great-helped me in both situations. The new Manager-not helpful at all-did not resolve my problem and I was going to start going somewhere else. I'll consider returning if Jim continues to work with me. read more

I brought my vehicle into CarX with a coupon for my breaks and calipers for $299. Upon completion of the breaks and calipers, the CarX said I needed rotors as well which costed an additional $50.00 a piece. With $179.00 labor the price should have been around $580. But for some reason, the price was over $1000! I went to CarX because of their lifetime guarantee of break pads. Upon looking at the receipt, it looked like this particular garage charged me a "Lifetime Guarantee". They never offered this to me, they never claimed it was an option, they just automatically charged me. Over $380 additional of fraudulent charges that was NEVER brought to my attention or offered as an option, just put on the bill! AND, they never gave me the price of the coupon that I originally came in with. When brought to their attention, they claimed "nothing was wrong with the billing". I had to complain to the cooperate business office and get over $489.00 refunded to me for their fraudulent billing. These people are crooks and overcharge on everything. They charge on guarantees that they do not offer as options and do not honor the coupons on your final bills. They operate a shameful business and everyone needs to know before they permit them to work on their vehicle. read more

Jason and the other man working at the time were incredibly friendly and helped me immediately, explained in simple terms what had happened and step by step what they were going to do. My first oil change at Car-X, they suggested a new filter and transmission drain-and-fill, but quoted TWICE as much as my regular mechanic charged me. Second oil change, they told me AGAIN that I needed a fresh filter and transmission fluid. When I shook my head and said "I just had both done", the mechanic got angry at me (then the manager tried to weasel out of getting busted for trying to sell me services I didn't need by claiming that my regular mechanic had swindled me). For my next oil change, I went to a local dealership instead. Surprise, surprise, there was nothing wrong with my filter or my transmission fluid... however, the mechanic called me up with the most puzzled tone in his voice and asked me if I knew how windshield washer fluid had managed to find its way into my engine coolant. Unbelievable! I have had good experiences with other Car-X's, but I will never go back to this one, and will be writing into corporate to let them know that they should consider taking some action to protect their brand. read more

GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE! My 4 wheel drive light kept flashing, but not locking up. They suggested flushing the system. When I picked my vehicle up, Mike showed me the work they did. When leaving, the 4 wheel drive switch was in a different spot and the lights would come on. Mike came out to my car, checked it out, he was unsure so he asked the mechanic that worked on my car. He said to just switch it over. Mike took the time to look up the info on the switch and called me later to let me know to leave it on the middle spot. I went to the same shop for over 10 years because the shop treated me like a person and not a dumb girl. That shop has since closed, I have gone to many shops trying to find that same customer service and respect, I definitely found it here. Will definitely be using this location for my car needs. I brought my car in because it was blowing out nothing but cold on my 30 mile trip to work (in the middle of winter). I'm not exactly sure what happened but it's working now. He came and suggested that I check and see if it's under warranty with my dealership. I've generally had positive experiences at this Car-x and in particular my most recent one. My car's check engine light came on mid day on a Saturday and I called to see if they would be able to get me ASAP and was told that it would be no problem, though there would be a small wait. I came in a short time later and only had to wait about 15 minutes before Jim, the technician, was able to take a look at my car. It turned out that my oxygen sensor was going bad and needed to be replaced. This was causing o2 intake issues and as he explained would ultimately lead to more serious problems, but at the time my car could continue to run. This was important to me as my car is a 99 Civic and I was not looking to do any further repairs and would rather start looking for a new vehicle. Jim also identified that my muffler was improperly installed by another shop and was touching the bottom of my bumper causing ratting noise and ultimately melting the bumper. He said this could easily be fixed by heating the pipe leading to the muffler and bending it slightly. He also found that my AC was starting to fail and needed a little bit of oil to be added to help it's performance. I was brought the estimates to replace the o2 sensor and opted to not have any maintenance done simply because I didn't want to put anymore money into my old car and I knew that failure was not yet imminent. Despite this, Bill, the manager, and Jim, went ahead and performed the maintenance to pull the muffler exhaust away from the bumper and added some oil to my AC system. They did so free of charge even though I was having no work done on my car at all. Their work and as well as honesty helped me make the best decision for myself and my car and in this case it cost me nothing and was very much appreciated. read more

I have been using my car dealer for all repairs but the muffler and catalytic converter replacement would be so expensive that they referred me to CarX. I was pleasantly surprised at the Customer Service and attention to detail that this local shop provided. Jamall was knowledgeable & made every customer feel welcomed. He took the time to explain the details that his customers needed and refrained when it was something that they did not want to discuss. The perfect balance of customer service and customer appreciation. The technician (Jim) was diligent in identifying the issues and providing a quote. Time management was exercised as we waited on parts to arrive. My car parts were disassembled & everything was prepped for the installation of the new parts. Although this repair is normally expensive, using a local shop was much less costly than having this done at the dealer. I went to get a "full service" oil change done here yesterday and I have to say I only went because they were having a special. However, I should've went to Merlin's like I started to. The manager was more interested in me getting new tires then he was inspecting my vehicle. Then when I asked him to check out a noise, he said okay and of course....he didn't. I pulled in here because I saw the sign for the $16.95 oil change sign. This is FALSE ADVERTISEMENT!!!! It's actually a family package of 3 oil changes, not including the $9 discard fee, plus any upgrade oil fee that they determine you need. I thought it would be $50.85 for 3 oil changes before tax. The gentleman informed me that I need a synthetic blend, which is $10 more each time. So the total would have come to $89.95 before tax just for 3 basic oil changes!!! BEWARE of this place. The warranties they offer seem great until you try to actually use them. They told me that potholes are not a "road hazard" but rather are considered a "collision" and are therefore not covered. I received a response from the owner. He told me that all of my problems were due to miscommunication. He indicated that the charge for the warranty on the tires is not really a charge for warranty, but is a charge for labor to mount each tire. The warranty is actually free. He said the problem with my brakes was not one that could be identified before the road test which was done after my axles were installed. Interestingly, there was a road test done BEFORE my axles were installed, but the brake problem wasn't identified, or even noticed, then, either. So take from that what you will. read more

I went here to have some custom work done on my car, new racing wheels and tires, and performance springs mounted. Most shops are not too big on working with customer provided parts, but they had no problem. They were very easy to talk to and work with and did good work in a timely manner. There was an issue with the performance springs, which was not there fault. It was an optional step left out of the instructions by the manufacture of the springs. I took the car back a few days later to have this extra step done, and they took care of it free of charge. read more

When I walked in to this business initially I explained that I was in a new place in my life (recently separated) and that I really needed someone that I could trust to help me maintain my vehicle.
