We suffered some road damage on our way into downtown Chicago from out of state. We had stayed overnight in Schaumburg and looked for places that might help. Big name reviews were dicey and we had a 4 hour drive ahead of us. Based on reviews we stopped at Automedics. We ultimately asked if they could review our makeshift repair to give us some advice. The gentleman that helped us was very friendly and helpful, and after some minor improvements, assured us that we would be able to travel back home and take it to our local shop for repair. Not enough stars for my recent experience with Schaumburg Automedics. Contacted Local reputable dealerships with scheduling appointment for service issue with my vehicle with plans of dropping off car the night before. After I thought about my appointment and the uncomfortable response received from the service department assuming when asked of closing time, I was bringing my vehicle in then for service, I decided to call them back with cancelling. I returned back to my search for local certified Lexus mechanics and sure enough Schaumburg Automedics was right there listed along with the other dealerships. The service I received, there's not enough stars. JJ quoted one price for the repairs with giving him the go ahead to proceed. JJ contacted me the very next day with sharing the price he originally quoted was much lower. This allowed me to get a few more repairs taken care of. I was provided a full diagnostic report of other issues that needed to be addressed with photos supporting the findings. I was looking for a place to do an alignment on my mustang. The car is lowered with aftermarket suspension components. Plus I had specific requirements for my alignment as the car sees drag strip and street use. Both requiring their own specific settings. Considering all that, they nailed it! I don't like writing bad reviews, but I don't like when people waste my time even more. I set an 8am appointment a week in advance for a service that typically takes an hour - two hours tops. I dropped my car off on time at 8am, called at noon to check the status & found out my car had yet to be touched. I understand most auto shops are busy, and bays aren't always available. However, one would think, since I set an appointment, I would have precedent over the other vehicles. When I expressed my discontent, it was defensively matched with a "well, we're busy" -- well, guess what, I was busy too. That's why I set an early appointment. Last week. Clearly my time and business was not valued. I'm not sure what the issue was. Over scheduling? Inefficient work speed? Disorganization? Regardless, for a company that prides themselves on their customer service, they did not show me the respect and courtesy I anticipated. A terrible noise started coming from under my car, like something heavy and metal was being dragged underneath. I didn't know if it would be even safe to drive home into Chicago, so I looked these guys up, and thought I'd give it a try. Of course, when I brought my car in, it decides to stop making that terrible sound. They didn't think my issue was BS though (or maybe they kept it to themselves), and we actually drove the car around the block a few times until the noise started up again, and they could tell what the matter was. I needed new brakes. It was 4:00 on a Friday. And even though everyone wanted to leave for the weekend they actually stayed to get my brakes replaced. He can diagnose transition problems that only happen when car park inclined etc. There is nothing that can stop him. After dropping off my car at Schaumburg Automedics, the owner of the company, John, gave me a ride back home and as we chatted I learned more about their shop and their technicians. John sounded like a genuine person and he has been in the industry for more than 20 years. I was assured I had made the right decision. I got my car back in less than 6 hours, in time for the Friday evening and the weekend. I have been extremely satisfied with their work and I am glad I have found a personal car mechanic for myself. I took my car into this shop as it was making a noise. I was pressured into buying a new water pump and coolant flush. He said "if you don't do this, my engine may overheat and blow up". His quote for coolant flush were higher than all other service providers in the area. JJ Jobst told me several times to change the water pump belt. I'm in sales, and I know this is an upsell technique. When I asked to see it, there was nothing wrong with the belt. No cracks, no dry spots, it looked perfectly good. My wife and I went to this shop last year just to check on 1 thing for her brakes. Next thing we know they give us an estimate for work totaling over $2500 for stuff that did NOT need to be done. I've gone to this place twice in the past month for two different car repairs and couldn't be HAPPIER. JJ, the owner, is the nicest man I've ever dealt with when it comes to cars. He knows I know about as much about cars as I do rocket science, so he was good at explaining things to me. My boyfriends car was in dire need of new brakes, which all we thought. We did the overnight drop off on a friday, (they only are open the 1st and 3rd saturday of every month) it was super easy and I felt safe leaving his car there. The next morning JJ called us saying that his car did in fact need brakes, but on TOP of that his wheel bearing was cracked! Now he's had his tires changed a LOT do to NTB being horrible and yet they somehow NEVER noticed the wheelbearing?!?! What?! Thank god JJ did! They said it was the worst they'd ever seen! They let us borrow their courtesy car for FREE with only the promise of putting gas into it. Talk about a bunch of nice guys. Fast forward three weeks and I needed to get my car worked on. Same issue, went in for brakes and a loose metal piece on the underside of my car. They managed to fix everything and this time I dealt with Scot. I've seen a few reviews complaining about him and those must be bogus. He was a nice guy who helped walk me through everything that was wrong with the car. Basically my five year old subaru was way over needing a new battery, spark plugs, wipers, oil change and a few other small maintenance things that the crappy subaru dealer in Schaumburg near golf never even MENTIONED!!! No charge for no problem! While staying for a few days in Schaumburg, I found a nail in my tire. AAA recommended the Automedics. My Yokohama SUV tires are expensive and fairly new, so I was not happy about replacing one, or even plugging it due to a puncture. Automedic Rich pulled the nail, checked the puncture twice with soap to confirm no leak, and sent me on my way in ten minutes with no charge. He wouldn't even accept a tip. No sales pressure for a plug or a replacement tire. No taking the truck to the back of the shop out of my sight for a little extra "attention". No taking advantage of an out-of-towner. read more

JJ and team provide an honest assessment of repairs and maintenance. Even if you are just bringing your vehicle in for an oil change, they will review and provide detail suggesting other items that you may want to consider taking care of now or later, with the actual price. No pressure tactics, just suggested maintenance based on your vehicle make and model. If your objective is to keep your car for 10 or more years and exceed 100k miles then regular maintenance is a requirement beyond just changing the oil. If you do not want to do the suggestions now, feel free to do them later, but know they should be done if you plan on keeping the car. Scott was our service advisor. We brought our 2006 Kia Sorrento in for a laundry list of maintenance that we have deferred for 2 years. When I arrived I was greeted professionally. I was there to have a routine timing belt, water pump and diagnostics of the a/c. While doing a full inspection he told me of other urgent items wheel bearing, and a rusted and leaking trans pan that explained why the trans was slipping. He gave me a quote for everything and told me we could hold off on a couple items but to be aware of behavior in the car and replace it then. He admits that he is not the cheapest. I need this SUV to go another 10 years so the decision to have it done right was an excellent decision. They provided a 4 year old loaner car that we used for 4 days. I appreciate the brutal truth... and thats exactly what we got from the guys over at Automedic. We took our Subaru in to get repaired, and instead of ripping us off with an expensive repair they told us that it wasn't in our best interest and to consider buying another car instead. No round around, no hard-selling for the repairs, just the brutal truth that our car wasn't worth it. I like that... they even told us to call them if we found a car that we wanted to buy and they would let us know if it was a good choice or not. Thanks to suggestions from other Yelpers', I went here for an oil change for my 2005 CR-V. The car need new tires and is making some grinding noise, which I did look it up on the Internet that it's a common problem when rear differential fluid need to be changed. I mentioned to Scott, who is patiently listening and let me know they usually need appointment, I said I only need oil change and will make separate appt for changing rear differential fluid. After waiting an hour and a half, they told me they had done both service because the condition the grinding noise the car was not fit to drive. They use exact Honda fluid because they have to follow same instruction according to Honda service bulletin, which I did look up on the Internet and that's what other owners have followed for fixing the problem. They also informed me the 2 refurbished front tires I bought are also 1 " larger than 2 rear stock tires, which are flat and this might exacerbate the problem of a 4-wheel drive. I am impressed by their service and decided to go replace my tires with them. They do work with TireRack and charge $200 for installing 4 tires and wheel alignment for 4 tires. BTW, they offer me slight discount AAA discount when I show my card. Great suggestions, this is gonna repair shop from now on!! read more
