Was out running errands and got a low pressure tire alert - Not good. Pulled in and asked if they could help me out. Great response from the gentleman behind the counter - "Of Course!!" Pulled up to one of the bays and another gentleman came over immediately to determine what was going on. I brought my car in for a noise that's coming from the front drivers side. Clinton took notes and told me he would call me as soon as they had a diagnose. I stopped by to check the status and the mechanic had both back tires off. My husband asked if he had checked the front and he said he was told just to look at the back end. When we brought this up to Clinton, he had a terrible attitude. When we went back the second time, Clinton handed us the keys without saying a word. My husband asked him what the final outcome was and Clinton told us to talk to the mechanic. So this is why I gave this shop 1 star. If you cannot treat your customers with kindness and respect, you shouldn't be working at a business that requires you to interact with customers in person. And he also reeked of marijuana. I called to make an appt for a free inspection, which they offer, and spoke with someone in the call center. I was told that the trans mechanic will be there Friday (today) 9-11 am. I showed up for my appt and was told they dont work on transmissions there. Car X needs to train these people they hire to make their appts!!! What a waste of time!! I would of given 5 stars, but the mechanic that called me with the total on my bill had a bad attitude. My car was towed in because Battery was completely dead. Would not even take a jump. Also had the oil changed. I ask mechanic if he can look at my service history. It seems like it wasn't to long ago I had them put in a Battery. Wondered if I had a partial warranty coming. Very rude, he tells me he looked at the history and I never purchased a Battery from them. I told him yes I did, it was a Duracell Battery. There was a display of them in your waiting room. He tells me rudely, we never used those batteries. I go in to pick up my car and pay my bill, there's a big display of Duracell batteries there. They did a good job on my car, but I have been a customer for a long time, never had anyone with a attitude like that. read more

Brought in a vehicle w/ only 34k miles for brake warning light check. Was told that it needed new brake pads and rotors for over $800. Upon returning for vehicle was told that they couldn't reset brake warning light because it was faulty. So it is still on. It is highly unlikely that this vehicle with only 34k miles needed new brake pads and rotors, and the only real problem was a faulty sensor. But they decided they could scam someone out of over $800. read more

I had my car towed into this facility because it was not driveable with no power steering or alternator. I had called in ahead of time to let them know what was going on. The tech promised me that they would put it on the lift in 25-30 minutes. After an hour and a half, I asked for a ride home, since my home was 3 miles away. I received a phone call around 4:00 p.m. , they indcated the car was ready for pickup. The manager once again picked me up at my house, so I could pick up my car. The manager Bill went above and beyond for customer service. The place is extremely busy, so do not expect prompt service. read more

So I scheduled an online appointment request at 7am for 10:30am. The online portal stated that I would get a confirmation within the hour. I called at 10:15am and a guy answered the phone, I stated that I requested an appointment online and haven't received a confirmation but before I bring my car in I wanted to know if you all have the tires in stock. The guy stated that the portal is a request (umm I know that).. and he said he was the one that approves the appointments and he hasn't checked his emails. He placed me on hold for a few minutes.. Came back and said 2 things, I dont know if we have your tires and are you bringing the care in or dropping it off. But even though they were swamped and understaffed, the manager, Ray, could hear the desperation in my voice and told me to come on over and they would see what they could do when something broke off my exhaust system on my way to work. (at 2:30 in the afternoon) They had to stay very late to finish every car because the shop will be closed for 2 days, but I won't miss 2 more days of work because of their dedication. I have been using this location on and off for nearly 30 years of muffller & brake repairs. I never had a bad experience, and now I have had an exceptional one. read more

I went to get an oil change down the street at Take 5 Oil Change and they told me that they can't change my oil because I have a horrible leak somewhere in my hood. So, I called CarX at 3:30pm praying that they'll help me out (because they close at 5) and they did!! They changed my oil and explained to me that the leak isn't as bad as Take 5 Oil Change tried to tell me it was. They really helped me out and calmed my worries! I brought my car in here cuz it was overheatin had to keep it there for almost two and a half day came and picked up my car and had the same exact issue that I did when I dropped it off. They told me that it was a water pump that I need to replace my serpentine belt that I need to replace the thermostat and flush cost me a total of $1,050. I paid they didn't do their job my car still overheating they refuse to call me back and then I find out it's a head gasket I need replaced this place will rob you they're horrible and then two weeks later I'm still finding stuff that they didn't fully put back in my car they didn't fully tighten down my battery so my car's been dying on me until I found out there's another indicator switch that they never put back either and reading a code for service engine. Also the serpentine belt wasnt tightened all the way so a few days later when it's raining out every time I hit a puddle my power steering goes out and almost caused me multiple accidents Please stay away from this place they are a bunch of thieving assholes read more

DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE!! I would give zero stars if I could! My mom took her car there March 28th 2018 for a small antifreeze leak and the manager RAY wanted to charge her 1200 dollars! He said she needed several things replaced so we went and picked the car up and the jerk drained all the antifreeze out and didn't tell us! When we got the car home iit was smoking badly thankfully didn't burn up the engine! Anyway we took the car to Sinclair's on 104th and Kedzie and got it all fixed for 196 dollars! RAY was so honest and resourceful. He went above and beyond to ensure my vehicle was safe to drive, repaired and reliable. He helped me get the parts and repairs covered at a very reasonable cost, and made me feel like family by taking the time to explain things in detail. I felt very well taken care of, and not taken advantage of. They are also very thorough, as well. If you are a female, steer clear of this racist pig! Husbands, do not send your female family members in this place. This racist pig owner feels females know nothing about cars (the kanutan valve joke is old). This morning I sent my grown daughter to take "my" extra car that she drives, over to a recommended muffler place but she went to the wrong store. This guy at Car-X treated my grown daughter like she was a babe emerging from the woods. To hear him tell her that the catalytic converter was never changed and had muffler putty (it's actually a sealant) to "dial it in". I have a mobile mechanic, comes to you but I live in Indiana so let's just take it somewhere local I told her... now..... Here are my credentials. 1st job, made Ast Mgr at Trak Auto in under 3 months (I'm a gearhead), left there to manage a Giant Auto store, then Forest Parts in Oak Forest, and for extra kicks.... I ran one of the most successful auto body shops on the SW side from '87 to '91. We won 7 World of Wheels awards over at the old McCormick Place. I know what I'm talking about. I, my mechanic, the store manager of O'Reilly's out in Portage made sure there was nothing visibly wrong with it. The old one that came out was so rusted over, there was barely anything left of it! My mechanic Tig Welded it, as traveling with acetylene tanks is not advisable in your truck. A couple of weeks later my grown daughter tells me that she smells exhaust in the cabin, she took it to a place by her home, they inspected it, only had 2 pinholes, it happens! But this guy at Car-X was grooming me to be dumb and accept his false claims for repair or replace. We got my car out of there ASAP! Don't trust this miscreant!!! Now to call corporate!! read more

Great experience here. I know they have to tell it like it is when it comes to the repair cost and car repairs are very expensive. Ray compromised for me and was able to do something to fix my car for less and then I was able to get 2 new tires but he did not even do this to get me to buy the tires because he hadn't even said anything about tires yet and I brought it up. He explains everything and is very nice. I saw him be nice to everyone he encountered as I was waiting for my car. All in all, great place. I thought he was just the front worker lol, and was impressed that he knew so much and was great with people. Our 2012 Dodge truck was having an issue with the breaks. We called at 8 am and brought it in immediately- Ray called around 4 pm and let us know we needed a few things replaced. For what they had to do the pricing was more than fair, less than we expected. He said the truck would be done the next morning. Amazingly, it was completed the same day and he called my husband around 6 pm to let us know. I didn't have a ride or a way up to the shop and I was prepared to walk, but Ray offered to come by and pick me up since I lived close in the area. He took the time to explain the new calipers, roters and breaks and how they work when they are all replaced (things like how to wear them in and to allow some more breaking time) for the first 1000 miles. We were happy with the price and most exceptionally happy with the customer service and the extra time Ray took to help me get the vehicle the same day. At this point it was almost 7:30 pm and past the time he should have gone home for the day- Thank you Ray for being so kind and to the tech that got the truck fixed the same day. I purchased a groupon from Car-X on May 29th 2011 I thought it was a great deal so I went for it and had high hopes. I went to cash in my Groupon a few weeks later hoping to avoid the initial rush and met with "Joe" from Car-X. First off he was the most miserable and rude person I ever met and told me he was too busy to honor this Groupon and has no idea when he will be able to unless I drop my car off and hopefully he can get to it the day I drop it off, "no promises". i might have believed that but I was the only one there and he had not one car in the racks. I called him out on that and he said he had those reserved for people who called in advance. Ok, I asked can I make one of those appointments and he said "We dont accept appointments"!!!!!! WHAT??? So I left in a mad rush and decieded to come back on another day and hopefully "Joe" wont be there. I went back a month later because I took a day off of work to get some things done and decided to get there as Car-X opened, so I'm in the lot at 7:15 and "Joe" pulls up and looks at my Jeep and walks in. I wait until 7:30 when it officially is opened and as i walk in "Joe" says "not going to be able to do that today, I'm all booked up, if you wanna leave it I may be able to get to it by the end of the day"... WOW!!! again no one there no one in the car rack and yea i'm going to just leave my $35k Jeep with you all day and walk home 7 miles. I told him he was a liar and he asked me to take my car else where. My girlfriend also has tried to take my Jeep to get this groupon service taken care of to no avail, This "Joe" is really being a P.O.S. and making what was a good buy into the worst purchase I ever made in my life. This guy needs to realize he is a mechanic and is getting paid to work on cars, he has an attitude like it is below him, but guess what Joe, you signed up for the job. This location was a poor choice and Car-X in general is a horrible place and will never go back. My car was making a noise for over a year. My car sounded like a semi truck when I would start it. One shop told me that there was nothing wrong with the car and that my car wasn't making a sound. Car-x found what was wrong and fixed it in a couple hours. They were great about communicating the costs with me and explaining what was wrong. They had to order a part and when they heard I needed my car that night, they were able to rush the part and fix my car in time. read more

I went to Car-X to have an unusual noise coming from my vehicle examined. Noise can be described constant and irritating while driving and coming from rear passenger side.. I was told that the noise was caused by a aged resonator that needed to be replaced. Upon leaving Car-X, noise did not cease. Upon contacting Car-X I was advised to bring my vehicle back. Mechanic indicated to me that the noise I was hearing was just road noise and I should turn on the radio to resolve this problem. I was then advised that the rear wheel bearing was not the cause. After a road trip to St Louis, I decided to get a second opinion regarding noise. Noise was instantly diagnosed at Midas and repair was completed within an hour. Noise was caused by an aged rear wheel bearing. Upon my departure from Midas, noise was gone. Lesson learned? Always get a second opinion and go with you instincts. I had the same issues with "Joe", and refused to go back after my last go around in July 2012. My better half who has much more patience than me went back in late August since we have the lifetime warranty for the muffler and didn't want to spend more money than necessary. She told me that the guy she talked to was nothing but nice and bent over backwards for her even though we couldn't get the car fixed due to the cost that day. We went back this week, and had the car repaired. We spoke with "Jerry" I am guessing the new manager and it was like night and day. Jerry couldn't do enough to make sure we were taken care of. No attitude or condescending at all, just "what can I do to help". We have been going to this location for the last 10 years and if they keep up this level of service we will for the next 10 plus. The manager prior to Joe was "Mike" and he was the reason we continued to go here. I never planned on doing business with Car-X ever again, but with Jerry running the show now I think I'll have to give them another chance. read more
