When this place was Patons it was the best more reliable mechanic shop around. Now as Meineke things have become outrageously over priced. I brought my car to have the thermostat replaced and was quoted the astronomical price of $3600 because they attempt to add on every single thing that could possibly be done to the car at once. Was in there last week with my quote given to me from Fred for new tires and was met by a new employee with a nice nasty attitude...Tall African American guy he needs to learn how to talk to PAYING customers! I was going to order the tires and leave a deposit but was told by another employee after he looked me up in the computer that he could see I was a good customer and I didn't have to leave a deposit...but after that encounter and Fred not being there I'm on the fence now about having work done there...At this point they're just using the Peyton name to keep customers...I'm going to throw caution to the wind and go to Walmart or Sam's at least I'll save myself 400.00 for the same job...The Peyton's need to snatch their name cause it's not looking good...SMH read more

Please read below..I just took my car in to get fixed and they butchered my vehicle. They made every excuse saying the parts were faulty but I paid $3k to fix and wound up with double the cost in fixes that I k ow they did. As I was in there to complain, another customer walked in stating they had the same problem. I went in for a check engine light and left with needing a gas pan, new alternator, new tires and a loud clunking noise under the tires. I'm so upset. When Rick and Fred were there everything was golden. These new owners (NOONE speaks English and if they do it's mediocre at best) are scamming you! Sometimes, it's not what someone does that makes a big difference, it's what they DON'T do. I called Paton's as my Ford Fusion Hybrid was having major transmission problems. I was hesitant to go to Ford directly, and saw the good reviews for Paton's, so I called them first. I was prepared to pay around $7000 (money I certainly did not want to spend, but assumed I would have to) to get the transmission replaced. I believe Rick answered the phone, but whomever it was basically said to me "Look, I have heard your story before - as much as I want your business, take the car to the Ford Dealer. There is a strong possibility it's covered under warranty.". Well, sure enough - took the car to the Ford dealer, and the entire transmission was replaced for free under warranty. THIS is how you build trust, by being honest and instead of just taking the money I assumed I would have to spend, by pointing me in the right direction. Came here for an oil change because of the good reviews and because I had a $10 off coupon. They wanted to charge me $134 (never have had to pay more than $70). I say whoa, but alright fine because I need to get this done anyway and don't feel like doing it myself. They call me saying I have an oil pan leak (I do, but it's a very minuscule and manageable one), need new brakes (just changed them myself a month prior so not true), and overall just have a lot of damage to my car that needs immediate attention. They won't do the oil change unless I get this fixed too; start talking to me about payment plans and blah blah blah. I ask them first off how much is this going to cost me. They say around $3000. Get the fuck outta here. Already charging me for an overpriced oil change and now are trying to scam me out of even more money. I said to just forget it and needless to say this motivated my lazy ass to just get it done myself. Highly do not recommend coming here for any service or product of any kind. read more

I heard a rattling noise and I found out that they did not put a bolt in to hold the struts in place.please stay away. when I called them, of course they denied everything they wanted me to bring my car back in not gonna happen. read more

Fred didn't have any availability until Thursday but was compassionate since I mentioned I had a toddler. Squeezed my appointment in on Monday and my car was ready in a few hours after a simple fix. Auto repair is one of those things you don't really plan for - it just happens with time and accidents. This morning on the way to the hospital I'm currently working at, I rounded right on a narrow, sharp turn with a high curb and heard a scrape alongside the rear of my car. I thought to myself some choice expletives, but let it go because things like this happen on the regular in Chicago. I assumed things would be fine. But then I heard the most awful noise from the right rear. A noise of death, if you will. And these noises of death got louder and louder. My gas tank happens to be on the right side of the car, so I definitely had the silly, fleeting-but-concerning feeling my car was about to explode or something, Fast and the Furious 12 style (is that what they're on now? it's like NOW CD albums, I can't keep track). I began to hyperventilate - I pulled to the side, parked the car, put the blinkers on and got my trusty penlight to try and look for damage. I saw nothing. I did it twice. I tried to get on my way but again, that terrifying noise (think nails on a chalkboard meets jackhammer) started up as soon as the car started forward. I was only a mile away from the hospital though, so I slowly but steadfastly made my way to work. Parked the car. One of my fantastic classmates came down to look and he also saw nothing. So during rounds, one of my other amazing teammates pulled up some information on some auto shops nearby. I made a call to Paton's. I got a busy tone on the first try but the second time, they picked up. They were busy but they said if we brought it in, they'd take a look by EOB today. So over our *very* brief lunch we dragged my car here (seriously, my friend ate lunch in the car, and I didn't eat at all.) I am the first to admit I know nothing about cars and was REAL concerned that 1. my car was irreparably damaged 2. repairable but costly to fix and 3. I was gonna get a huge bill and a huge inconvenience. I spent all day nervous and guilty. Imagine my joy, surprise and sheepishness when I get a call from them a few hours later telling me the repair is a very easy one - it was a piece of a wire coat hanger that got caught up behind the wheel. and imagine my gratitude when I came in to pick it up half an hour before closing and they told me they wouldn't charge me for it, with a "Merry Christmas" thrown in. Seriously, I almost fell over. What class acts. Merry Christmas to you too, Paton's. You guys sure know how to do business. Rick and his guys are fantastic. 1, My husband and I went with what the dealership told us was a problem that would cost us a lot of money. I told my husband that we needed to go see Rick. He then inspected and told us that the problem was not a problem and wouldn't be for years and years to come. 2. My dealership told me that my car had a rusted positive cable to the battery and it would cost over $300 to get it fixed, I went to Rick and he cut off the bad part, connected a new portion for just over $30. 3. my daughter took her bad car to Rick and he fixed it right up and did a great job. Unfortunately my story starts with a botched job by Preferred Automotive. I called Paton's for a price on my damaged alternator. Rick was amazing. Not only did he give me the price for the job, but broke down the pricing of each part (labor, part, etc.). He was more than clear on the timeframe and called as soon as my car was ready. Rick's mechanics also made sure to inspect the car for other issue, which the other shop didn't. Due to poor job done by the previous automotive repair shop, I another repair that was an emergency. The car was ready by the end of the day. When I say that Paton's is excellent at their industry... they are beyond top notch. Fair prices, quality work, and great customer service. I've been going to Paton's for 8 years - with both used & new cars. From a simple oil change or brake replacement to more complicated problems that typically occur with used cars - IACV, radiator, axle issues, etc. As someone whose jobs have relied on my ability to commute, I've had that horrible feeling when the check engine light pops on (typically at the absolute worst times). I can also understand the frustration that comes along - as I am not a mechanically inclined person - when a driver wants to know exactly what's wrong with his/her car, how long it will take to fix, and, probably most importantly, how much it will cost. With that being said, I can understand why people get frustrated by a mechanic's lack of willingness to provide a cost estimate for labor/parts without being able to see the car. However, I don't know that I would want someone to give me an estimate without being able to go into the car and provide an expert opinion on exactly what could be wrong. In my experience, getting a sight-unseen estimate can cause a lot more stress than the aforementioned check engine light. Paton's has not ever charged me for taking a look at my old, high-mileage car and figuring out what may be wrong. After taking a look, I get a straight-up, honest assessment of my options and the cost of parts & labor. To go one step further, every mechanical issue was taken care of by the end of business on the day that I dropped it off - typically within a few hours. I've since moved away from Oak Lawn and would need more than two hands to count how many auto mechanics I drive past on my way to get my oil changed at Paton's. I'll never have anyone else work on my car (now newer and with fewer problems) because the crew at Paton's understands the difference between making a sale and making a customer - hint: they're more focused on the latter. read more

They allow you to buy your own parts, although it its not recommended unless you know precisely everything you will need for your repair. They do not do patchwork. I've been going to these guys for probably seven years and I've never had a problem except that they're often busy with other (presumably satisfied) customers, so it pays to call ahead or make an appointment. I think at least two or three times they've charged me little to nothing because the problem was too minor and stupid, like the time my kids jammed in the rusty parking brake and it wouldn't release. One time they told me upfront that the labor would be too expensive to really justify the repair. Mike and, uh, I can't remember the other guys' names, always explain what's wrong with your car in detail and go over it again if you're not getting it (which you won't if you're me) and answer any questions you have. Also, good and quick service with helping my car pass the emissions test. Also #2, they coordinate with Vince's Towing so if you call Vince's they just lump it into one bill with your repair. read more

I went to Paton needing a new fuse for my window washer and an alignment. The staff was very courteous and friendly. No problems. I was told that no alignment was needed instead I need front and rear engine mounts which would have cost me a little over $700.00. My car only has 36,600 miles so I decided to get a second opinion. They weren't to happy. Turns our my engine mounts are fine! I needed new tires and an alignment (which cost less that $700.00)! My coolant is fine and my car is working like new! If you are a woman or a soy boy and need repairs that costs over $200.00 get a second opinion. I'm a woman and they see dollar signs. To be honest I was surprised. I have used Paton's twice now, first was for a timing belt and serpentine belt which went great and reasonable price. The second visit I was very grateful of them. I had attempted to change my break rotors myself and managed to strip the screws holding my rotors on, so Paton's helped me get the screws out and fixed, they put my previously purchase break rotors and break pads on for a very reasonable price. Not to forget they were able to drop me off a my job that morning so very happy with there service. read more

Went and had them take a look at my car, as it was making sort of rattling noises as well as popping and creaking. I was told there would be a $75 diagnostic fee which I was perfectly OK with. Didn't charge me the diagnostic fee and the repair only cost $103! Funny thing is, Cassidy Tire had quoted the same repairs about 5 months ago but quoted it around $380 (that's why I didn't get it fixed right away). They were great and even offered to come pick me up when my car was ready! I won't be going anywhere else for car repairs again!! read more

Thank you Rick very pleased with your service, My hood latch wouldn't release - couldn't get the hood open, my car was at Firestone getting brakes done and when i picked it up the guy there said he couldn't help me and recommended i go to a friend of his at a body shop. Well I called his friend who was in meetings all day and was told to call back. At this point I couldn't see out of my windows and needed to put windshield solvent in. So I looked online and saw Paton's nearby with good reviews. I called and tt Rick who said to bring the car over and he would get to within the hour. Get to it he did and it turns out the screw/mechanism was just rusty, he was able to lubricate and clean off the release latch and now works like a charm. Rick only charged me $25 and had the car ready an hour later even though his place was jam packed with cars. I will be back for service to my vehicle .. I found them on Yelp with great reviews and decided to take in my GMC Acadia and thought it was going to cost a lot to get it fixed because it made weird noise. Paton called and said I only needed an oil change that's it. Honest workers. I truly appreciate that they didn't try to say it was something else or try to up sell me. Second time around was my son's car dropped off on Sunday, picked up on Monday. Power steering line needed and it was fairly priced.
