We stayed at the Chanler as a Valentine's getaway and booked Cara for our special dinner and made the reservation 2 weeks in advance. When we arrived, they "lost" our reservation. The young girl couldn't be bothered to do anything about it and we had to leave and find anything that was available at 8pm on a Friday night. This morning at breakfast we learned they could have accommodated us. This idea that "people are doing their best" during Covid is nonsense. People have just found it convenient not to care, to provide poor or no service by using "COVID-19" as the go to excuse for anything. Very disappointing. UPDATE: They're squeezing us in for the smaller 3 course seating this evening. Still disappointing, but at least they tried once someone else found out there was an issue. UPDATE: It is very clear that all of the staff at the resort have worked very hard to overcome the few mistakes that happened early on. It's still sad that we missed the later 7 course seating, but they really went above and beyond to make for an excellent experience. Both the chef and sous-chef visited our table and they included some nice extra touches. A few minor inconveniences were the lack of dark linens. They were able to bring a set of white linens that did not leave lint, but mid service it was replaced with a regular napkin that did leave me covered in white lint after. This is really such a minor thing, but it certainly is an expectation when you're spending in excess of a thousand per person. My wife and I each had a duck course, but at different times. We received different portions of the same dish. Is it because they wanted to give me extra? Did they presume my wife wouldn't want as much? Seems weird that the plating wouldn't be highly precise given the fine dining nature of this restaurant. The effort goes a long way. It's been clearly conveyed that the staff here truly care about our experience and have done all they could to try to compensate for the early inconveniences.

Bacon bread!!!

It is really hard to put into words how amazing the 5 course blind tasting was! It's a MUST try to really understand! Executive Chef Jacob Jasinski, Pastry Chef Brittany and their team treated us to masterpiece after masterpiece all evening long. This was not dinner...it was an experience to be savored! The service was spot on, the cuisine impeccable, and the atmosphere incredibly beautiful and relaxing. Highly, highly recommend!

Lovely dining area.

We celebrated our anniversary here and I am SO glad we did. The food was phenomenal and the service was superb. Our server Teddy went above and beyond - he was personable and professional and took care of a few requests that we had. We had an amazing time and we were extremely impressed with the cuisine. I can't wait to go back. This is THE place for a special occasion. It is a gorgeous eleven table restaurant tucked into the Chanler Inn. Our reservation was for 8 pm and it was dark outside so we didn't see the spectacular view other people raved about. Go with the tasting! We debated for at least 15 minutes about whether to do one of the six-course tasting menus or their three-course prix fixe. We finally chose the "Plunge" tasting & OMG it was perfection. Plunge is a little more protein oriented than their other tasting. But, first we had a glass of wine and we were offered either onion bread or Japanese milk bread. Then, each course came out in a well timed cadence. Our favorite course was the duck - it was exquisite with beautiful crispy skin, blackberries, and foie gras. I cannot do it justice on this page. I didn't even take pictures because I was all encompassed with each morsel. Dessert was a deconstructed rhubarb pie on a lovely plate but my husband said he preferred "constructed pie" - fair enough. I had a perfect chocolate soufflé. After dessert, we had orange cello candies and a pretty box of homemade chocolate truffles to bring home. Side note: The waitstaff press linens of vacant tables with an iron. Overall, The kitchen and servers are a well-oiled machine & I love that. We left happy with great memories of our experience. Can't ask for more than that. Some patrons here are Newport preppy casual or they take it up a notch. The kitchen is open and you can see it operating as you walk by.

The atmosphere was relaxing and romantic. Our server was efficient, friendly, and extremely attentive. The food was out of this world! Our meals were perfectly prepared and presented like works of art. Prior to our visit I had made a very specific and challenging request for Chef Jacob Jasinski. He was very gracious about my request and seemed to really enjoy customizing our dining experience. To say that Jacob and his teammates knocked it out of the park would be a huge understatement! Our meals were not only customized as requested there were several unexpected surprises provided that made it even more special. If I had to sum up our entire dining experience in Cara with one word it would be...EXQUISITE!

Sandy was our amazing server, provided great recommendations and very attentive to her respective tables. Cocktails were great, antipasto was a great start not too much to leave room for the main and desert! The focaccia was light and flavorful as well. Had the rigatoni bolognese which was prepared perfectly and had great flavor. Nearly licked the plate clean! Saved a little room for desert with both cakes being tasty and washed down with an espresso martini. Lovely place to have a date night or night out with friends!

She was nice enough to let me try them and I chose the Trevino which was very good and paired great with my food. The bread was nothing special but solid and the high quality olive oil made up for it. For my main I got the chicken milanese and it was divine. I loved the vinaigrette on top perfectly acidic and vinegary. It cut though the oil and heaviness of the breading which was perfectly salted by the way. The arugula bean salad was sooo good and created such a well balanced meal. The one thing I will say is I believe their fryer does fish and chicken bc my chicken had a slight ocean taste but since I like fish I was not bothered but non fish people beware!

Every time we come here the service is excellent and the food is amazing. This is what we come for right? Outstanding food and service! This year was no different than the other years and I love how the menu continues to evolve and change and everything that comes to life from the menu to the table is well thought out and bursting with harmonious blends of flavor. The presentation is gorgeous too! Plating is also important and they nail it! Okay let's gooooo! Come join our dining experience! We tried a bit of everything! We loved every bit of it. I'll mention my faves but that doesn't take away how hard it was to choose a fave! Everything was DELICIOUS ! Raw bar: Jamestown oysters . We had 10. We can't get enough east coast oysters. We live in the west side and I cannot say enough how much better oysters are on east coast! Slurp ! Mmm! Snacks: 1. Shartner's Farm Carrots: pea green pesto, pine nut, n'duja . If you're a meat, potato and pasta person and try to avoid your veggies, don't do that here. GET IT! It's such a great melody of textures and flavors that pair well. It doesn't feel like you are eating carrots and regardless it's a very dressed up bougie delicious carrot plate ! Mmmm . One of my faves out of the snacks. 2. Narragansett Creamery Burrata: green strawberry, speck, basil. Creamy, vibrant and just delicious Pasta: only had room in our tummies for 1 but every year we try different pastas and never disappoints. This year no exception. Maltagliati- hopkins southdowns lamb sugo, swiss chard, harissa, umbrian chickpea. Excellent! Pasta was perfect texture and consistency!! Little touch of spice from harissa which I loved (not overpowering). The Swiss chard was cooked to a crispy texture which I loved. I was a bit nervous about the lamb because it really can vary from place to place. However, I should have known better being from here they cooked/braised it to perfection: melt in your mouth type of soft and no weird or gamey taste. Definitely delicious pasta I recommend. Plates: 1. Duck Leg Confit- japanese turnip, spigariello kale, huckleberry conserva, duck jus. Personally my faves of the two plates but both delicious. The crispy skin from the duck and tender flavorful duck meat was just to die for. Loooooved. Plus the turnips and the amazing huckleberry conserva! Thinking about it makes my mouth water. So so good. 2. Beef Short Rib-swiss chard erbazzone, sunchoke, hazelnut. Loved it. Tasty as expected. Great flavor and tender. Dessert: 1. Olive Oil Cake- strawberry, rosé, lime curd, basil gelato. Wow! Oh wow! I'm so happy this time around they have some cake options. I love olive oil cake and now to pair with a basil gelato sounds insane right? Holy cow! Soooo good! Not what I was expecting. Strawberry, rose, lime and basil gelato flavor all work well together in this dessert. My fave dessert of the night! TRY IT! 2. Cookies N' cream: narragansett creamery ricotta, chocolate biscotti- yummy! Tasted like an elevated cookies and cream ! We loved our experience! Hopefully when you visit here, you can enjoy it as much as we do year after year. I absolutely love this place. Food is beyond excellent and is a place you have to stop by and visit while in Newport.

I tried the Cacio de pepe fried potatoes and they were so good. Beautifully fried and the potatoes texture were light and pleasantly dried. For my main course I had the tonnorelli pasta with a green garlic sauce which is my favorite. Only available during early spring when the garlic is young and green. The flavor is mild not too garlicky with an herbal earthy flavor. One of the best pasta dishes I've had. Dessert was olive oil cake with a minty flavored gelato. Everything is made in house. Service is great, everyone is so welcoming and the vibe so calming . Can't say enough about this place.

I got here around 4 pm and the parking situation wasn't honestly an issue. The music isn't over powering and the overall layout makes it seem very homey. depending on where you sit you have a nice view of the kitchen where the chefs are diligently preparing the food. The starter bread is nice and dense with good flavor, it reminds me of a sour dough. The olive oil that comes standard at the table is robust and has a very nice flavor to it. I ordered the pasta bolognese, the taste and acidity of the sauce is pretty standard, a little on the acidic side but i tend to enjoy it like that. The house made pasta (or whichever kind of pasta is used) is well picked. The pasta picks up the sauce well and the mouthfeel is hard to beat; I want to attribute that to the house made aspect of it. I also got one of their seasonal cocktails called the paper plane which was refreshing. It was a little tart, definitely tastes of grape fruit with the lemon garnish also contributing to the taste. However I'm not sure how well it paired with pasta alla bolognese. To finish I got the crème brûlée. For me it's always a toss up between that and key lime pie every time so when a place offers both I usually have to flip a coin. For those who have had crème brûlée, it's overall a pretty simple dessert. The portion size was a huge plus for me. The sugar top had just a hint of burnt taste (obviously!) but you could really tell; and that is something I honestly don't mind. As for the crème it was nice, light, smooth with a hint of lemon I think. The staff are very friendly and attentive. I'm typically a solo diner but at least from what I saw they are capable of accommodating parties of about 10 so long as you call ahead first to let them know. I have to assume given the time of year it's "less packed" than normal because outdoor dining is pretty much not an option in march. This is my first time in the state of Rhode Island and subsequently the first time in Newport. I found them out through the Resy app, and decided to give it a shot. In all honestly because of the vibes, the food and the area, if you are ever in the area I would definitely try this spot out for some pretty good Italian. P.S I want to apologize for only posting the dessert, I'm just getting back into food posting. Sorry!

We easily made a reservation a few days ahead of time for a table of 6. The table was ready early, and that was good. We were early. Seated immediately and excellent service throughout the night. We talked a lot and were slow to order. The server was patient and checked in regularly but didn't rush us. When we ordered the food was delivered almost instantly. I tried the tagliatelle bolognese and really liked it. I also had pepperoni pizza and loved it. It was an almost perfect Neapolitan pizza diavola with just a little American flair in the pepperoni. Crust was crispy chewy as it should be and the sauce was perfect. A++ pizza! The prices are extremely fair for downtown, and the food is top 10% or better. Good enough that I'd say if you visit Newport and eat out you better try Pasta Beach - it's in the top 1-2 must try places for me!
