Clams Casino was cooked perfectly, the oysters Rockefeller were delicious, I loved my mushroom 10 out of 10 appetizer. I got the beef Wellington as my entrée without the pate. It's rare to find a restaurant that can offer beef Wellington let alone one that cooked it to absolute perfection. I prefer mine rare plus and the chef nailed it. They do family style sides for a vegetables which was nice. My fiancé got the rack of lamb and they weren't joking. It's a whole rack, he said the flavor was spot on. Service was excellent. They did a great job at explaining everything on the menu and recommending what to order from drinks, entrees to desert . The prime rib was cooked and seasoned perfectly. The beef Wellington was one of the best Beef Wellington I have ever ate. It was cooked to a perfect medium rare. The pastry and pate surrounding it was also cooked to perfection . The red potatoes cooked in chicken broth were also very good. Never had potatoes prepared that way so it was great trying something new. The frog legs were also cooked great very tender and moist. The breading was light and crisp but could have used some salt. If you want a really nice evening, at a fancy but not too expensive restaurant , this is the place for you. It is very quiet restaurant, great for a romantic meal or taking your parents out to eat. They are also don't seem to be as busy or booked as other restaurants in the area , so it may also be a great last minute decision for a nice night out. I don't live nearby, so before I drove down there, I had a few questions to ask that their abysmal website didn't address. I hadn't been here in years and my partner suggested it since he hadn't either. The food was so delicious. The stuffed mushroom appetizer had a lovely seafood stuffing. We often sit debating where to go for a good dinner and forget about the amazing restaurants in our own back yard. I will be the first to admit, although I have been to a handful of French restaurants, I am not overly familiar with authentic French cuisine. But regardless if this restaurants authentic, or the chef was even French trained, they still serve awesome food! They have a very nice wine list, with something to go with any meal, or please any palate. I enjoyed a nice glass of French Pinot Noir. I started with the French onion soup, which was definitely one of the top two I had ever had. Cheesy, with delicious broth and a nice crouton soaking up all the goodness. For the main event I had the roast duck, at the recommendation of our server. I love a well cooked duck, which is extremely hard to find, and this place knocked it out of the park for me! Delicious! Simply delicious! We have never left here disappointed. It is a very quiet, relaxed atmosphere that is quite enjoyable. They start you off with crackers and cheese that always seem to hit the spot when you are starving for dinner. Fresh warm bread and butter to follow, with a crisp garden salad. Service is always great and the food is top notch! The French Onion Soup was amazingly yummy! So cheesy and flavorful!! I am a creature of habit, so I always get the chicken cordon bleu and it is so delicious!! Mouth watering in fact! My hubby had the roasted duck this time and he thoroughly enjoyed it! This place is a great find. Very authentic food but in a very homespun, low key, family vibe. The people are welcoming and wonderful. Drinks were made perfectly and the wine list, while not extensive, was perfectly well suited to the menu. I had the duck and it was cooked perfectly. Crispy skin and unctuous moist meat inside. We went here last night and once again enjoyed our meals. ​Everything was delicious and prompt! The staff here is wonderful and I can't say enough about the exceptional service that we received! The food was amazing too! We had frog legs, onion soup, steak au poivre and the duck l'orange My steak was cooked perfectly and I'm very picky. We have been coming here for years, it is a family tradition. The restaurant is third generation family owned and operated. The new mocktails are a great addition to the drink menu and the new martinis too. It is great that they have their classics on the menu and new items too. We will be back soon. So, there are some positives in this French restaurant and a noteworthy super positive. Our server, Karen revealed it was her first night. She was outstanding!!! She knew and employed European serving and table manners, attitude and timing. What a joy. Napkins and table cloth are linen. One of the menu items was frogs legs. Come on, but yes, it's a favorite. Not for us but to each their own. I had the broiled scallops St. Jacques; my fiance the chicken cordon Bleu... Perfectly prepared and served. This is probably in the wrong place but the bathrooms are clean, however, the faucet was not secured to the sink. However, the clam chowder contained big potato chunks. The same dish at Schultzys in Portsmouth is far better. Dessert was a lackluster parfait. This is an expensive restaurant. Your bill will easily, for two, go over $100. Finally, the decor is dated. Date night French food! Arrived early for our reservation and seating was right away in a cozy spot. Ordered Pinot noir, escargot with garlic butter sauce and oysters Rockefeller to start. They were fabulous and very tasty. No shells on the snails, which made it convenient to eat. :) Dinner was salmon Oscar with lobster and hollandaise, asparagus, veal special with mushrooms and tomatoes. The sides were potatoes and green beans. It was all very good & fresh, sauces were perfect, and our waitress was attentive and courteous and pleasant. I tend to eat slowly, on purpose, and did not feel rushed about lingering with another glass of wine. A small table opposite us had 2 different couples come and go during our stay and just really enjoyed the experience and will be back. Just awful, no redeeming qualities, expensive plates of subpar quality food!!! Nothing says fine French dinning like ritz crackers in individual wrappings!! Their super French sounding potato dish can be summed up as "boiled potatoes and onions" literally that's it. The family style vegetable came out as 1/2 cup of canned corn and carrots..... the cheesecake was more like a soup as the bowl was filled 1/4 way with watery strawberry juice. My husband and I went here for our wedding anniversary. He made a reservation and we drove 40 minutes to get there. We placed our drink, appetizer and entree orders shortly after arriving. The appetizer took a long time to arrive. I got the french onion soup and my husband got the escargot, both were good. Now here is where the problems arose. We waited about 1.5 hours and still no entree. The waiter then came over after all this time waiting and informed us that they ran out of one of the entrees ordered. At this time, it was past 8pm and we didn't want to wait any longer so we left. Not the wedding anniversary I was hoping for. Also, the atmosphere is less than desirable. Very loud and hard to hear. Unfortunately, I wouldn't recommend this place. Hopefully the management can figure out what went wrong (poor planning, communication, etc.) and remedy the issue so that this does not occur again. read more

So glad we did. Moulin Rouge is just as good as I remember. The decor hasn't substantially changed over the years but the interior wood walls gleam. Our server was great. Knew the menu inside out. Crackers and cheese, bread and salad were included in the meal. Apps we ordered: clams casino; stuffed mushrooms; oysters Rockefeller; French onion soup. Entrees: Roast duck flambé; beef Wellington with and without duck pâté; filet of sole Nantua; veal Oscar and coquille st. Jacques. Dessert was chocolate lava and chocolate layer cake and strawberry parfait. As I said, old favorites but still delicious! Portions are big but there is takehome available. Well-made, authentic, classic French quisine. Attentive, well trained servers. The only negative, and negative enough to lose a star, is the SAD wine list. Only 1 white, 1 weak Pinot, and 1 Champagne is French. Most of the small wine list is supermarket American wine: Clos de Bois, and similar wines that retail at Stop & Shop for $10. Most guests are 60 years or older, and they drink hard liquor drinks with their delicate French food. So, you miss HALF the interplay of flavors. Have been wanting to try Moulin Rouge, for quite some time now, finally did. Started with some Tasty Apps, clams casino, stuffed mushrooms, oysters Rockefeller, and escargot, and all were cooked and served very nicely, especially the stuffed mushrooms, I could have eaten plenty more. Entree, my wife opted for Veal Francaise, which she really enjoyed, and I went with Almond Crusted Rack of Lamb, which I thoroughly enjoyed. My only quirk would be their choice of potatoes,which was either Baked or some boiled potatoes with onions and seasoning. Not what I would have hoped for, maybe some Mashed would have been better suited for our meals. And the house Veg for that evening was some Squash, that was mashed and quite watery. But glad it was the sides and not the Main that needed Help. But all things said; A good meal, a little pricey, but Good Food cooked properly doesn't come Cheap anymore. Couldn't fit desert, but they looked tempting, next Time. And Larry or server was Very pleasant and accommodating, which is always a Plus. I have been going to the moulin since I was a kid and have never had a bad experience until tonight. The service was very slow which was told by our server they were short staffed not her fault. The food was inconsistent first time trying the French onion soup which I would rate a 5 and the rice pudding which was always my favorite is not the same . The only thing that hasn't changed is the house dressing which is awesome. I also don't understand the choice of music the have coming though the speakers which has nothing to do with the theme of the restaurant?? This place looooves to Flambé tableside... duck, steak, apples, you name it. I absolutely recommend the Caesar salad for two. It might very well be the best caesar salad ever. Loaded with freshly cooked bacon, homemade croutons, awwwwwesome dressing - all prepared tableside. Our meals were hard to rate cause the entrees, Sirloin Flambé and a Rack of Lamb were really good, especially the lamb. But the sides were super weak. Steak could have used less sauce after the Flambé, but both were well seasoned and cooked a perfect medium. We both ordered some fancy sounding sliced potatoes which were code for sliced baked potatoes in a bowl of butter and herbs. Tasted decent enough, but we only got one bowl and then two other bowls. One was a giant bowl of beets. The other, a bowl of soggy, spicy green beans. I understand that we were surrounded by rich old couples in their 70's (matching the decor perfectly), but the side orders really took away from the main dish in a drastic way. They need a little more pride in the side order department. As I mentioned, the decor is drastically outdated and this place could seriously use a makeover to match their well-made entrees. Cheesecake for dessert was delicious but again with an unflattering presentation. This is a funny little restaurant that makes you feel as if you have gone back in time. From the crackers and spread, to the decor, the place will make you giggle. But don't be discouraged, the food is awesome. I was celebrating and treated myself to the beef Wellington and it was decadent. We had dinner with family on Saturday night, a party of 5. We have been to the ML many times over the last 25 years. I noticed a slight decline after the original couple got older and we think the chef changed a few years back. But we kept it on our rotation even though many nice new spots have opened in the area. I think it has been much better the last few visits including this one. The location is pleasant but old. I don't think it has had any renovations in many years. The staff were great last week. They were professional, friendly and took good care of us. This is an old fashioned family restaurant with a french slant to the menu. They DO NOT have a bar to hang out in if your table is not ready. I think a slight remodel with that being created would make the place better. Any french place should have a wine bar. As for last Saturday night we all really enjoyed our meals. We got the Caesar salad for two which was larger than expected and a couple of smaller salads. These were all fresh and delicious. For dinner my daughter got the Beef Wellington done medium rare. Her steak was topped with some pate and the covered with a pastry crust. I'm not sure how they do this and still get the steak at the right temp but it was really good. I had the Cod In a white wine butter sauce and it was light and flavorful. There was also a prime rib that was juicy and delicious and a filet with lobster scampi over it that was perfectly cooked and finally the Chicken Frances was a great meal. For dessert warm rice pudding, Chocolate lava cake, Peach Melba and a Chocolate mousse. They were all Great and a perfect end to the meal. If I could have given no stars, I would have. Stopped in for drink and app....but there is no bar for that type of thing. Waitresses has to confer as to wether we could sit at table....wish they had said no, as it was one of the most depressing places I have ever eaten at. In need of serious overhaul ...and there is absolutely nothing French about this place! We have a home in France, my husband grew up in France, he would know, oui? Had my parents 65th Birthday party here. I had never been to Moulin Rouge- the reason we chose this restaurant is because my mom's parents used to go there often because we are French and my grandfather liked the frog legs. Anyway I had never been so when I walked in during dinner I thought to myself- its very quiet and my family is naturally very loud. Luckily they put us in a back room away from the rest of the guests since there were 20 of us. The food was all very good- the clams casino, stuffed mushrooms and the frogs legs were all very good! The entrees were also delicious- my husband got the sirloin and I got stuffed shrimp - both delicious! All in all it was a great night- my parents had a good time and were very surprised. I would like to say thank you to Warren and the staff of Moulin Rouge- you were all friendly and accommodating- thanks for being a part of my parents senior citizen celebration! My wife and I hadn't been to the Moulin Rouge for many years. We decided to go last night. We knew it must be good since the parking lot was full and we parked conveniently on the street. When we walked in we were greeted nicely and shown to our reserved table in the room on the right. The ambience was rather nice. We felt as if we were back in Paris again. The menu had many choices. Our server was exceptional. Unfortunately, I can't remember her name but she was outstanding. The food was remarkable. We had escargot and stuffed mushrooms for appetizers. Outstanding.
