One of the best dining experiences on Aquidneck Island! Their menu has something for everyone, the wine and cocktail selection is lovely, and the views for outdoor dining are unparalleled to anything else in Newport. During my most recent visit we tried the chips and avocado dip, berry and avocado salad, and Cobb salad - and of course some Prosecco! We sat out back near the greens. They also have a covered dining patio if you'd like to enjoy the nice weather but not be truly outside! Service is above average. Wait staff is professional, friendly, and attentive. More cons versus pros with this place Pro: strawberry lemonade and the rolls used for the burgers were great Con: Everything else We ordered the stuffed quahog and two burgers. The quahogs were served on a metal shell. Took away from the originality and the standard way they are served elsewhere. The burgers were ok. Big problem is that they apparently ran out of fries. Server came over and had apologized to us. Offered some substitutions only to find out that they had ran out of potatoes . Had to eat the burgers with mashed potatoes. Server was ok. Went to La Forge on the Monday after Christmas Day because we had some time before the Breakers light exhibit. I had a glass of Prosecco and decided I should get something to eat while there. Am I glad I did. The chicken parm on ciabatta was one of the best I've ever had. The chicken was so tender and flavorful. The ciabatta bread had a little crunch on the outside and the inside was soft and delicious. The fries were cooked well. On top of the great sandwich, the interior was beautifully decorated for the holidays. The front bar room had a lot of green garland and lights while the dining room next to the bar was decorated more in a red theme. It was really really well done! If you frequent Newport- you have probably have driven by LaForge many times and had no idea! That's my story. I was lucky enough to be taken out by my employer after touring The Elms down the street. La Forge is right next to the Tennis Hall of Fame. Actually- walk inside and get a beautiful view of the tennis court. I hear if you are lucky enough during the summer you can eat and watch some tennis. The field is even real grass! We were a party of about 25. We had the place to ourselves as it was a Wednesday at lunch. We had about 3 wait staff supporting our party. They were nice. They were very attentive regarding drinks. We did have to wait some time for our food orders but once they were placed our appetizers were very timely. Our table split an order of nachos with pulled pork, mozzarella sticks and garlic sesame buttermilk tenders. The mozzarella sticks were packed with cheese! The garlic sesame sauce was tasty (wish I had gotten a 2nd piece!) But the big winner were the nachos. It was more about the pulled pork... delicious! Very flavorful. Lots of guac too! I would suggest trying it! For a meal I had the Cliff Walk but instead of a burger a chicken sandwich. I have to say I was a little disappointed that they sued onion rings instead of straws like advertised. It had too much soft onion on it for me. The straws are crunchier. But overall it was ok. I can say a lot of people got the salads and they are LARGE! Honestly everything was served in good portions. (they delivered on the crab meat and lobster rolls.) I know we weren't their typical customers. We just got done driving a little shy of under 3 Hours for our week long stay here. The previous year's we have stayed in Rhode Island, place was always jumping. We arrived late in the day which didn't leave us much to do besides catch a Newport Gulls Baseball Game. With that being said, we wanted something lite to eat. Just something to fill our stomachs with out making us lazy and tired. Also left us some room for good ol dirty water dog! We both ordered salads with steak tips. Who on God's Green Earth think it's OK just to cut steak in half and throw it on the salad? Aren't steak tips suppose to sliced? I can't imagine the bought crowd of Newport thinking this is OK. $46 for two salads and 2 slabs of meat on it. Meat was very tender by the way...we had two drinks at $10 which hit the spot! They also forgot our app order. When they realized it, said their fryer was down. Hard to believe it but could care less. We just needed food in the stomach. We tried out a few of their drink specials - the sugar cookie martini, the espresso martini, and the brand new Paloma; all were super yummy, especially the sugar cookie one! We then tried a few apps, the tuna tartare was my favorite! For entrees we got their winter burger (award winning for a reason), the chicken parm, and the mother clucker chicken sandwich. The restaurant is dated. The bench seats were so tight that both my wife and I had a hard time getting our legs under the large pedestal table. The staff was nice and fairly attentive. The food was very average at best but the prices were high for the quality of the food received. The calamari was OK but greasy. I had chicken parm (supposed to be one of their best and popular dinner offerings). The chicken was slightly burnt and very thin. The spaghetti and sauce had minimal flavor. La Forge has been a favorite when I'm in the Newport area. They have a bar area, dining room and outside tables in warmer months. Parking is pretty much limited to a paid lot across the street and unless you have your ticket validated can cost 20 dollars for a couple of hours. The service has always been good, and the dining and seating is comfortable. They have excellent chowder and lobster bisque. The menu is generally American and seafood. They're a little more pricey than comparable restaurants, but it is Newport after all. Great place to go after shopping or going to a mansion or museum in the area. I would recommend the New England clam chowder and a cheeseburger. read more

I don't usually post reviews after going to restaurants for events that I didn't plan, but this was an experience I feel strongly needs to be shared. We went to La Forge for my sister's rehearsal lunch. It was a roughly 50 person lunch and the place was set up nicely when we arrived. They used centerpieces from the mother of the groom, and had a great selection of drinks. We had a raw bar and appetizers to start. The cheese board was underwhelming, with a selection of cheeses that were all similar. The raw oysters and clams were okay, but they seemed to be a little close to room temperature for my taste. After that, we had a 3 course meal. The waitress took our orders for the main course. and when provided allergy information, she shrugged and said "what do you want me to do with that". I asked what the vegetarian option was and she said "how should I know? The chef picks it." As a result, I had to turn away a salad covered in blueberries (which I told her I was allergic to), and another guest had to trade their main course with someone else. My mother (mother of the bride) also asked when the food would be coming out since we were already running behind, and the waitress said "well I just put the order in so what do you think." The food took 40 minutes. I ordered the chicken, and while mine was good, my mother ordered the same and I couldn't even get my knife through hers without slamming into the plate. It was not consistent dish to dish. That being said, the dessert brownies were very good. I've already touched upon the sharp responses of the wait staff, but the treatment of our party overall was really harsh. One of the groomsmen at one point spilled his drink on the floor, and when he alerted someone, they literally gave him a broom to clean it up. One of the other attendants kept getting asked to go fetch things from the kitchen because they thought he worked there even though he was dressed completely differently from their servers. I was astounded at the service, but the grooms parents said everyone was outstandingly friendly to them. I don't want to jump to any conclusions or make any accusations, but I will say that me and the other girl who provided allergy info who was brushed off are both Asian women. My mother is an Asian woman. The gentleman told to clean up his own mess is middle eastern. The gentleman who everyone thought worked there is Latin American. The groom's parents are white. I'm not making an accusation, but I am pointing out what I saw. I do not recommend going to La Forge for either a meal or an event due to the inconsistency in food and service. Overall, the meal was upsetting for those of us who were treated poorly by the wait staff, and I will definitely not be going back. read more

Not one to really post negative reviews as I'm pretty patient and not real picky but this place was a disaster. Came down to Newport for wedding. Need to find a place to have a drink appetizer between the wedding and reception. Looked like a good place. We came in and went to the small bar on the right. There were 2 other people that were finishing up. We sat down. There was a woman running around cleaning up the bar. And then multiple people kinda coming in and out. We sat there watching all this for 10 minutes. Finally a girl came over to get our order. Ordered 2 beers and crab cakes. I got my beer and she says be right back. She didn't come back Another 10 min or so Another waitress comes by to get someone else's drinks so we ask her and she goes and gets our waitress. No apology. Poured the beer and left. During this whole time 2 other couples came in, sat down and when didn't get acknowledge by someone they got up and left (as we should have). The whole time there was that one woman who was just wiping down the counters, behind the bar and not once acknowledge that we were there. Also here's a picture of our view.
