As always 5 The best pizza in town. Usually we order carry out but we decided to eat in. There are a few booths open to dine in, the back half of the restaurant is closed off. Our server was busy cleaning, answering calls, checking out guests as well as waiting tables. She was very busy but that did not keep her from checking in on us, asking if we need refils, cleaning dirty dishes out of our way. The restaurant seemed clean and upkept. The lunch specials are a good deal at $9 and include a drink. I enjoyed my hot turkey hoagie, chips, and pickle! The bread was crusty on the outside and soft in the middle. I also love that you can get the lunch special any day of the week, including weekends. I will definitely be back! read more

I stand by it - Carbone's is my favorite pizza in MN! This was our first time picking up from this location. There aren't really any legit parking spots although they do have an alley where you can park to pick up and go. This was a small low-key location with about 5 booths. It was just OK. Nothing special, the 10" pizza was a like a sad handwritten book, no crust, square cut, just pathetic looking overall. Taste was just OK. Then ordered some of their cheesy garlic bread and the portions were great but again, nothing special about the flavor, left much to be desired. May give Carbone's another shot but might not! This is a classic Italian American pizzeria. The "divey" decor includes checked table cloths and plastic glasses. It's charm is it's authenticity. It says, "You're here for pizza." No gimmicks, no fancy atmosphere, no "gourmet" toppings. Just honest pizza. Since I am unable to eat wheat, I can only speak to their gluten free crust. It's one of the Twin Cities' best IMHO. I assume they use a prepared crust like most pizzerias, but it's bigger than an Udi's crust. It's about as close to good thin crust as you'll get anywhere. Good texture. Good balance between crispness and chewiness and makes ok leftovers. You won't feel like you're missing out out if your friends get the regular wheat crust. Their basic tomato sauce is where their pizza shines. It has a rich, savor that complements whatever toppings you add. Their pizza is satisfying, and unpretentious. read more

One of my faves for a quick lunch when I worked across the street - no, that doesn't mean that it's the best pizza on the street (although maybe it does, since Savoy's closed...). The prices are right and the service is fast (if a bit snarly). You can't beat the personal sized pizza and salad deal for lunch, so it's definitely worth stopping in if you're in the area. read more

I order from here frequently when I'm in town and they are always prompt and I've never had a messed up pizza or pizza sandwiches. Their salads are good, too. The location is central, but parking can be a challenge, which is the only reason I am giving 4 and not 5 stars. Its a little dumpy inside, very small, but it is perfect (if that makes any sense). The staff are all so friendly and accommodating and the service has always been fast. If you are in a hurry you can call and order ahead. My most recent trip found us starving, ready to eat our limbs. A scant 10 minutes of travel time and we arrived just in time to sit and receive our cheesy delicious garlic bread and soda. I don't know what it is about this particular Carbone's, but it is the best, perhaps because it is the original. Get the family special - cheese bread, soda and 2-topping pizza - and you can feed 4 people for a mere $25. read more

Just ordered from these guys on DoorDash, paid over $40 for 2 10' very small dried out pizza's, and 1 10' pizza fry that I asked for extra red sauce and I got no sauce with them at all instead, so that just it a dry ass garlic cheese pizza, I guess they got paid so screw the customer, never ordering from them again. read more

I can only really judge this place on it's pizza but from my experiences they are great! Really flavorful and a decent size. Folks you up nicely but not too the point where you are in a food coma. The staff is hit or miss. The few times I have been there I have either had good service or kind of grumpy unwelcoming service. The layout is nice but a little dated. I forget about Carbones for short periods of time but then when I remember, I need it right then! They have been around forever and have added numerous stores all over the twin citiies. Their menu is small and simple which is the way I like it! I always get thin crust but they do have pan pizza or thick crust. I have only eaten Pizza so I do not know how their other items are but I bet they are equally as good! I would not eat in this particular Carbones because this is the original one and its pretty old and dingy inside but when I pick up my zza, I see people dining in. If you like the greasy, cheesy, savoy type of Pizza, try Carbones, its similar but not quite as greasy. read more

I've loved Carbone's pizza since the first one I had a long, loong, looong time ago. Ok, when it comes to pizza, tastes run the gamut, but I like the thin crust, slight greasiness and consistency. Be aware that all Carbone's are not equal. This one is the original and, along with the Randolph location, are probably the best - they're both operated by family members. St. Paul classic for sure! Located on a busy corner, this place packs the lunch crowd. This place is a super casual eatery with a cheap menu. Lunch specials are typically $5 and most include soda! Good choice for Italian in the area. The waitstaff was committed to getting people in/out in 30 minutes. Plenty of street parking available! read more

My favorite take-out pizza on the East Side. Good thin crust, tangy sauce and not overloaded with cheese. Ingredients always seem fresh. Fine place to eat in, too. Nothing fancy. Service isn't always with a smile but the food is consistently high-quality. If you get any of the breads (recommended), spring for the marinara sauce. Really good flavor. There's a tiny parking lot in the back if you're just picking up. Otherwise, try your luck with street parking. The neighborhood is getting busier and parking may get tricky. read more

I have been to several different Carbone's. This one is by far the worst. I walked in and waited 7 minutes to order. The employees were busy and NEVER even said Hi. I understand how hard it can be BUT that is no excuse for not even a smile and a "just a sec". I go to the one by my house all the time and they have never been so rude. As a student of the adjacent Metropolitan State University, I love Carbones! I almost always order to-go and it's always ready on time. Their prices are amazing and so is their food! My favorites are the Italian Cheese Bread (so delicious) and 7" cheese pizza; my 2 guilty pleasures for a pre-night class dinner. Not many people are aware of it, but they have a promotion that if you buy one of their branded reusable tote bags for $2, you get $1 off every time you bring it back in, with unlimited uses. I've probably saved $100 over the course of my college career lol :) It's also fantastic that all of their to-go containers are compostable! read more

I grew up on the east side of St Paul and remember Carbone's from the 1970's, so when I came from LA with my kids for a family reunion, I had to share this place with them. As I remember, this is the best pizza in my experience. My daughter is now a convert as well. I only wish there was one in the LA area!!!!! read more

Without question, one of the worst food purchases I've ever made. Ordered a chicken sandwich with American cheese ($5) and a half spaghetti ($2.50). Total...$7.88. 20 minutes later, a huge bread bun with barely recognizable chicken and two tomatoes inside, with one that looked like it had been bitten into and, oh yes, a half spaghetti that was so much "half" that it didn't even cover the bottom of the container. And it was all cold. Anyone who eats here is foolish at a minimum. read more

I like this little (dive) pizza joint. My housemate and I had olive, mushroom, and pepperoni pizza. Thin crust and just the right amount of cheese.
