Apparently the customer is always wrong here, worst customer service, I am out a carb and extremely furious with them. I said they were a great company as I have referred several customers to them, all had something negative to say. This is the last time I will ever deal with them, they were not clear about what I needed for the order, and instead of just changing my order they insisted I pay nearly DOUBLE what I was quoted. They made a huge deal about swapping carb linkage over, to the point that it was cheaper to just buy a brand new carb! I wish I had done my homework and checked Yelp! before doing business with these folks. Last summer I bought a 1962 Pontiac Tempest Lemans convertible, with the amazing and unique 195 cid 3.2 liter inline 4 cylinder, a marvel for its time. But I knew up front that the original Rochester 4gc carburetor that came with it was bad. No problem, I contacted this company I found online to exchange the old one for not just a fully rebuilt one, but one that was specifically tuned to my engine. I spent the $900 plus dollars to have it shipped to Sacramento, and was excited to install and drive! But here I am, 8 months later, having nothing but problems. After extensive work and rebuilding of the engine by Sacramento's top classic car restoration shop, in the end the big problem was.....you guessed it, the carburetor. Leaking fuel, malfunctioning choke, a bad float, bad seals. So instead of plowing hundreds of dollars to fix and rebuild this nightmare "guaranteed" carburetor, I'm scrapping it and just going with a new Holley carb with electric choke. A very expensive lesson in not doing my homework. I'm stuck with a thousand dollar Rochester 4gc that I may be able to sell for a hundred bucks or so on eBay, and I'm an honest seller so will warn them up front. I'd like to write an update to my previous post regarding Carburetor Exchange. I recently found out that because the engine box is so tight in the old vans that they are prone to over heating and vapor locking HOWEVER.. this does not excuse that fact that the new carbuerator that I got to replace the original (which was not functioning correctly all the time) ran a bit better than the first but has other problems that i did not get to discuss because i was rudly told by this business to not come back. The new carb seems to run fast until you tap the gas pedal then it revs at a normal speed. I have been using it in this fasion. It may have had an automatic choke originally but I never went and talk with these people again. SO IF YOU GUYS AT CARB EXCHANGE WANT TO BE NICE AND SAY SORRY FOR THE RUDENESS I WILL COME BACK AND YOU CAN LOOK AT THIS PARTICULAR CARB AS IT DOES BASICALLY RUN BETTER EXCEPT FOR THE IDLE SPEED PROBLEM. IF YOU WANT TO BURY THE HATCHETT AND BE NICE, WE CAN TALK. I DID REMOVE MY ORIGINAL POST AT THIS TIME.....but you should rectify the situation with me. Sent my Stromberg W135 to be rebuilt. It got their by Priority mail in two days for $14.35. They charged me $20 to return it and it took over a week. Found out after I finally got it that they did not give to the USPS until I called worried about it when they gave me a tracking number that was not yet in USPS system. Evidently it sat around their shop for a week until I called about it. They said they sent it out on October 1Oth but did not take to Post Office until October 16th according to USPS label. Otherwise, carburetor works well. Just was unhappy with the anxiety caused to me by them not telling me the truth. read more

I decided to write this review primarily for safety reasons with these carburetors. I have purchased several automotive carbs from these guys without any problems, but my experience with a marine carb was not good - maybe I can save you the hassle. I exchanged a marine carb from an OMC 800 stringer (chevy 350) for one of their rebuilds. On my boat the new carb bogged heavily past idle and backfired shooting flames out the carb, then it would die and not idle well. This is a major safety issue on boats in enclosed bilges!!! I took the carb back and got my old core back, which worked fine before and after trying their unit (I was just trying to upgrade to an electric choke so it worked from the get go) . OK, we all make mistakes, but what defines a business is how they respond to their mistakes- read on: The problem with this place is they don't give refunds, even though they don't know how to build marine carbs (they basically don't stand by their product). Why do I say they don't know how to build marine carbs, or at least for my OMC application? Well my old carb ran perfect on my boat and if these guys new marine apps, they would know that merc cruiser, OMC, volva pentas, etc are jetted differently. When I returned my carb they claimed to do me the favor, in their opinion, of refunding half my money, but it should have been a full refund for a bad product. They basically took me for half the money on the exchange. What is more irritating is that they think they know what they are talking about - one of the employees told me the new carb ran fine on their small block and thus my timing was off - funny how my timing was perfectly set with both my carb and theirs and my carb ran perfectly on the boat. Clearly, their carb was not built for my motor as they claimed. I can't stand people that assume things telling me that my timing is off - how would these guys know that my timing is off - I am the one with the timing gun that checked the timing, how could they know (psychic powers perhaps)? It is also important to be aware that marine carbs have different numbers on them. These guys may exchange you an automotive carb built to marine specs (for what boat I don't know), like they did with mine . They claim this is o.k., but so that you are all aware if you have a fire on your boat, say from extreme backfiring with a carb exchange unit, the insurance company does not care what they say, when they investigate the claim they will not cover you with an automotive unit. If you care about your boat, go online for an extra $100 and find a rebuilder that will give you a marine numbered carb for insurance purposes. You also have know idea what kind of parts they put in the automotive core. The floats and seats are different on many marine units and linkage is often zinc coated to resist corrosion. Lastly, it is unknown to me whether their rebuilt unit will meet Coast Guard approval which could get you a fine and worse a fire or a breakdown on the water. They told me they built it to USCG specs, but who knows because they also told me the carb would work, so you can't take everything you are told for face value. As a Coast Guard Auxillarist, safety is an important issue to me and I don't want to be the guy rescuing someone on the water that had a small carb problem turn into a major issue. You may end up with an unsafe carb on your boat if you don't get the right unit. Bottom line, be weary of buying marine units from these guys. You may waste a lot of time, money and have serious safety issues on your boat. To be fair and balanced, I have had good experience with their automotive units, but I also know a couple of guys who have had very bad experiences as well. read more

The guys at Carb x were great. They had a carburetor in stock for my 40+ year old low mileage classic Datsun. On their website it states they "Engine Test" their carburetors to make sure they are working properly, including the automatic choke. I like that, because I was looking for an easy swap and hoped it would work properly right out of the box without a lot of additional tweaking. Also, they were fast in getting it ready to ship. I ordered it online on a Tuesday and had it by Friday! The carb was packaged carefully and in good shape when I received it. The install went perfectly and my old Datsun had no problem starting with the rebuilt carb. The idle speed was super close. (I adjusted it down by 100 rpm). The test drive was great, no stumble or hesitation at all, smoother idle and just better performance all around. Conclusion: Great overall experience with Carb X in CA. Good communication & fast shipping. The carburetor was everything they said it would be and worked right out of the box. I would deal with them again. Thank you guys! read more

I'm restoring a 1971 Chevy pickup that spent over 16 years sitting in a farmer's field, and each time I fix something, it just uncovers another problem. I finally got my engine running well enough to realize my carburetor was the problem, but that's not an easy fix. I know cars fairly well, but transmissions and carbs are beyond me. So off to the internet I went. I found Carburetor Exchange, and after reviewing multiple companies providing the same service, I decided to order a rebuilt carb from them. Then I crossed my fingers and hoped it would all work out. The carb showed up at my house in Texas less than a week later, and it was boxed very carefully. I installed it on my old truck and fired up the old beast. To my pleasant surprise, I found that everything was running much smoother than before. I had a 88 Mazda carburetor that was original. I called Auto Zone and other and they wanted $500. or more for the carburetor. I ordered the carburetor for the Riverside store. It was a couple days late so Daniel discounted it from $250. to $189. for the trouble. The carburetor works well and passed smog. For me it worked out quite well. I would recommend to my friends, but nobody I know has a car with a carburetor. read more

Old Carter w1 one barrel for an antique car They sent the wrong carb. Shipped it back and 6 weeks later received the correct one. Only problem was it was flooding badly and pouring gasoline over everything. Instead of sending it back and waiting another 2 months... Took it apart and found the float full of gas- it had a hole. Contacted them and they said they would send a new float.....I have a few spare parts and replaced my own on it...installed ran well...figured I would use the float they would send me as a spare....10 days later carb exchange said they could not send the float and I could send the carb back for repairs....told them to go pound sand they cannot build a carb right. If you are selling rebuilt carbs as a business. At least check floats for holes..morôns! read more

I took my 1976 fiberform "boat" carburetor in yesterday to be rebuilt. They told me I can pick it up today. I did and it was completed. Dan went the extra mile and put all new intake caps on it and a small tube. I did call around to get the best price. These guys beat the competition up! 100.00 less then the shop I take my boat to. I installed it shortly after I picked it up and I'm so satisfied I had to call Dan personally and tell him how happy I am. Now I can take my boat out and be confident it will preform like it should. After reading some of these reviews I was cautious but took the chance anyway and I sure was glad I did! Unbolted my old carb put the new one on and wiz bang it was like I had a new truck! The truck has never ran better. Don't try to adjust nothing they do it for you. If it ain't broke don't mess with it, these guys know carbs. read more

Sent my 1970 Vista Cruiser carburetor for repair to Carburetor Exchange. After spending $238 in ran worse that before I sent it to them. A 1 Carburetor in Escondido determined that Carburetor Exchange installed assembly plates that were warped and no choke assembly, No wonder it didn't work. Carburetor refused to reimburse me unless I returned the carburetor which A 1 repaired. The carburetor repaired by A 1 has been installed and is now working as it should. A 1 charged me $266 to correct the poor workmanship of Carburetor Exchange. I have referred this matter to the State of California Automobile Complaint Bureau. This company should not be able to conduct business given the number of complaints from its dissatisfied customers. read more

I own an auto repair shop and always cringe when I need a rebuilt carburetor for one of my customers vehicles. I ordered a Honda carburetor from Carburetor Exchange and I must say their customer service is great. Unfortunately we had problems with the first carburetor that we received but they were quick to get us another one and it works perfect. Great performance and this 30 year old Honda passed emissions testing with out a problem. I would use them again. read more

Came here to rebuild my carburetor on my 1971 Ford truck. It was giving me terrible MPG and took forever to start up in the morning. It only takes them 3 hours to rebuild a carburetor that's great compare to other shops I went to. The restroom is kinda dirty but what shops isn't. It's cash only so bring cash. Overall really happy with service here couldn't be more happier with my carburetor. I'll be back here in the future to upgrade my motorcraft carburetor to a Holley. read more

This is the absolute worst company I have ever delt with in my life. The first carburetor leaked out of the gaskets holding it together. I sent it back and they made me pay for shipping both ways. The next carb ran horribly and leaked. I told them I want a refund and that this is ridiculous. They said they'd send me another and the guy would personally check it. The third one had bad linkage, leaked and the screws holding it together weren't even finger tight. He clearly didn't check anything. Then he tried to tell me it must be my fuel pressure that's making it leak. Even if it was the fuel pressure, it would leak internally not out the gaskets. Plus it's a mechanical fuel pump; if anything, it doesn't have enough pressure. Just for legal reasons, I had it tested and it was right in the middle of the range. After threatening to take them to court they decided to give my money back. But they charged me a 20% restocking fee plus made me pay shipping again. Plus I had to pay to have the fuel pressure tested. So in the end I lost money anyway and still need the carb rebuilt. On top of that, this isn't done. They sent me back a rebuildable core that isn't the right carb at all. So now I have to wait to send this back and get the right one. This company is a complete nightmare and I would never EVER deal with them again. Take your time and invest in companies. Just cause they are carburetor rebuilding specialist, that clearly means nothing. There are companies out there that also offer a lifetime warranty. That's who I'll go to next. And companies nickle plate so the carbs linkage lasts longer. This company just sand blasted it and that's it. Last note; it has been over 4 months since this all started. Save yourself the nightmare and don't deal with these people. They are a lying cheating company with a horrible product. read more

I had my carburetor rebuilt by the Carb Exchange- it won't pass smog. A smog shop and an independent carb shop both said there is a problem inside the carburetor. I called the Carburetor Exchange and they said we don't guarantee our work will pass a smog test! When I ordered the rebuild the Carburetor Exchange(Located in Ca.-my state for smog) never mentioned the fact their rebuilt may not pass smog, they took my money, mailed me a defective rebuild. $250 Carb Exchange, $400 to find the problem-bad rebuild, $ xxx.00 to get a decent rebuilt carburetor. read more

I would give this company 0 stars if possible. The worst customer service after the part was ordered and paid for EVER. I bought this carb over the phone since I wanted to be very specific as to what I needed. I needed a stock 1987 Toyota truck carburetor with the square green plug that would pass smog. Oh yeah no problem we have that and we will ship it out in 2 to 3 business I was told. Well that was the best part of this transaction. I did not have the exact carburetor that I ordered so I was informed I could not get a core refund. Of course this was not disclosed until I received the carb in the mail. Nor was the no refund policy disclosed over the phone. After I installed the carb on my totally rebuilt from the ground up engine it failed smog. When I called them to inform them of the float not being set properly therefore allowing too much fuel in. They told me a "technician" would get back to me. Called again for two weeks finally the third week I spoke with a technician that continued to treat me as if I were a complete idiot because I was not " A MECHANIC". Well I rebuilt my whole truck I think I know what I am doing even if technically I am not a mechanic. After belittling me and telling me nothing was wrong. I had finally had it.I CANT STAND BEING TREATED LIKE AN IDIOT BY SOMEONE SPEAKING POOR ENGLISH. I FINALLY SENT THE CARB OFF TO A LOCAL CARB SHOP AND $300 later problem solved. Total cost of this carb should have been $220. Total cost $600. Helping someone avoid this place priceless. If you doubt my situation I have every receipt and record of phone calls to this company. Don't buy anything from these guys, just had a carb sent to me. Took them over a week to send it out, when I got it looked like a kid put it together. It had a broken horn on it & they just screwed a replacement one on it. Can't seem to get any reply's back from the owner & they want me to ship it back at my own expense. It seem that Dan has no customer service in fact he hang up on me the one day when I questioned him on the carb. read more
