I don't leave reviews often, if at all... But this is one I am extremely happy to leave because this it's my second review that deals with something other than food. I'll start off by saying that I was stand off(ish) because trying someone new in this profession is extremely difficult. I gave them a shot at the title and let me tell you that this place is (expletive) AMAZING!!!! When I got the price at first, I was a little shocked but I didn't bring a cheap suit for my first alteration and even if I did, it would have been worth it. To bring these pants from what looked like John Travolta "Saturday Night Fever" bell bottoms to the picture below and keep those squares and stripes so precise? Such a gift!! The best part of it all was the lady in front of me picking up what looked like a Vera Wang wedding dress (don't quote me) saying it fits so nice that she'd get married twice, just to wear it again! My dress strap ripped as I was headed somewhere, I know, very unfortunate. I was just looking for a tailor near me and came across this shop. The tailor took me in right away and was very welcoming. For my comfort, she let me wear something else as she sewed the strap, as she could sense I felt uncomfortable with nothing underneath. She fixed it up in no time and the dress looked like how it did when I first bought it. Plus it was only $10. I'll definitely be coming here again if I ever need it! read more

I had a nice double breasted wool overcoat I purchased several years ago that was just a bit too long for me. The price was excellent and I always intended to get the item altered, but just never got around to it. Well, I finally got around to getting it altered and shopped around. A lot of places I checked weren't too keen on the project, and the ones that were open to it quoted me a very high price. I just wanted about 3" taken off the bottom of the coat, no other alteration would be necessary. I checked with the folks at Cardelino - I told the gentleman exactly what I needed and I was quoted a very fair price, so I OKed the work and was told to check back in a week. A week later, I picked up my coat. The job was excellently done - you couldn't tell that there was any alteration. The hem and lining were exquisite. A total first class job at a great price. Super cute mom and pop tailor shop. I needed a quick pant leg hemming and popped in during lunch on a Wednesday. I slipped on the pants, the tailor made the proper adjustments, and I was on my way. He had promised to have them done Friday but I was going to be out of town and couldn't pick up by Saturday anyways. He made sure I knew about the shorter weekend hours. On Saturday, I picked up the pants, and they were tailored perfectly. Everything was done with a smile too! The work we had done was not, at all fast, or detail-oriented. We were told two weeks for our garment to be completed, and then it was not ready on time. They essentially forgot about our work order. The work on the four pockets, was not done, and the liner provided began to come apart, soon after its first use. Also, we do not shy away from pricier services, as long as the procured work is performed well. If you do decide to leave your garments, here, be prepared to pay their rent, while taking the chance that your work may not be fulfilled, properly. read more

This guy became short and angry with me when I asked him to repeat himself (his accent was very thick and I could barely understand him). When I asked for clarification, he said I'm a very busy man! Great and super fast service (they hemmed my dress and took in the sides) in two days. I'd give them five stars but their pricing breaks the bank. This was the easiest tailoring experience I've had in New York (and I've been to my fair share of tailors)! They tapered and hemmed a pair of pants on the same day for me, and the pants fit like a glove. The pricing is a lot higher than I've seen elsewhere (especially the spots in FiDi), but in a pinch, this was perfect. read more

There is another listing on Yelp for Cardelino, however when I went it was a generic local dry cleaner/tailor, I believe they've since moved across Broadway to the address I have here. I've gone to these guys now on two separate occasions with multiple pieces of clothing each time. They're friendly and professional enough, and the work they do is generally good. However on both occasions there were some screw ups resultant from sloppy work or poor attention to detail. The first time they reversed the fold on a fabric belt so I would've had to put it on backwards, and also gave me someone else's jeans. The second I had them reinforce some buttons and they did so while sewing through pockets in the jacket so I wouldn't be able to use them. People go to tailors because they pay attention to detail and though they were responsive and good about the fixes, they're not cheap and should be working a little more carefully. read more

The work they did was on time and well-done. That said, Cardelino loses stars on their price and attitude towards their clients. They charged me $60 for a simple jacket shortening. While it was done well, a 1 week wait doesn't warrant a $60 charge. I also brought in a pair of pleated pants that needed to be tapered and he flat out said he wouldn't do it unless I was willing to spend over $100. He acted as if the tapering was a massive job. I should've just left at that, but decided to leave the jacket with him and try another tailor in the area for the pants. I was pleasantly surprised at the inexpensive tapering job the other tailors completed. Frankly, Cardelino is too expensive and only willing to simple tailoring jobs. read more

Called the number listed, wanting to ask if they altered bridesmaid dresses and to schedule and appointment. Man that answered the phone said, "Cardelino" without a greeting and hung up on me as soon as I got my question out. The team here does great work, are polite and professional, and happily take care of any issues that arise. I have brought a couple dozen shirts here to be tailored along with a few other more challenging items, and have always been very satisfied, except once or twice when something wasn't quite perfect and he happily made it right at no charge. Just wanted to share my experience - I received terrible service the minute I walked in. I asked if they could hem something and he says "no no I'm working all week". Really? A simple hem you can't do in one week???? It took me a few seconds to get over it. But seeing how convenient their location was, I asked "Do you have a business card?" He says "no no". Then just tells me to close the door on my way out...practically shooing me out. I don't get it... This is how you are gonna attract new customers? Meh. I took my suit jacket to them a while back to fix a wrinkle on the shoulders created by another tailor who'd refused to correct his mistake. I also wanted the lapels not to flair out when buttoned, a sizing issue with this made-to-measure suit. I was told that they could "absolutely" fix these issues. Not a doubt, I was assured. They added that they could also tweak the length on one of the pant legs, which was probably a millimeter or two off. I went with it, and smiled all the way home envisioning my "new" suit. $$ later, the jacket looks exactly the same. The pant length was corrected. All they could do, I was told. read more

They're customer service is impeccable! Better than any other tailor shop, for me. I brought in a suit to get tailored for a wedding a couple of weeks away. They did everything very well, but made one mistake that I only noticed after I got home with the tailored suit. They made everything right and fixed it very quickly.
