Brought in a few items including a top that had rips in it. Paid & picked up the order. Got home and the sweater still had a rip in it. I brought it back and showed the owner. She said she would complete the job. I came to get it and they said I had to pay AGAIN! Claimed they had no record of payment even though this was the only top I have ever brought in. The woman said this is a jumper!! It is the same item. Told me I have to come back and argue with her boss. Absolutely ridiculous. Wish I could give them 0 stars. Horrible customer service. When I went to pick up the dress a week after dropping it off I noticed that there were still pins all over the dress - turns out they hadn't even touched the dress. When I went to pick it up AGAIN a few days later they clearly rushed to get it done and did a horrible job. Take in mind they also charged me $210 and gave me absolutely nothing for not having it done when they said they would. read more

I can't say enough good things about Hong Kong Tailors. Every time I've come in here Wu has treated me very well. They measure my clothing they way I want it and they complete the work very quickly, generally within a few days to a week. I always encourage people to find the best alterations tailor in your area. Good tailoring can make a cheap $500 suit look better than a poorly fitting $5,000 suit, and if you know your basic sizes you can find high quality items online or in resale shops and have them altered so they look like they were cut just for you. I did not have a great experience with Hong Kong Tailors - I went in to get a bridesmaid dress altered and although they were able to complete the job efficiently and on time (they finished it in 5 days), the dress did not end up fitting. The waist was too small to zip while the bust remained much bigger than what I needed and juts out from my chest. Additionally although I had requested she keep an extra inch on the length of the dress, the dress was cut much shorter than what we had agreed. The price totaled $145 for the alterations and I was very disappointed to have paid so much for a dress that cannot zip and is several inches shorter than what I had asked for. read more

I recently had 11 items tailored/patched up and each was done perfectly. One silk top had several tears which I thought meant it was a goner, but it looks good as new now! I concur with JM's experience and wish I had read her review before bringing my clothes to this tailor. I had the exact same experience! Like JM I also urge you to STAY AWAY! It is not just that things went wrong, it is how the problems were handled. I got to the point where I thought I was in an episode of "What Would You Do?" and kept waiting for John Quiñones to pop out and tell me I was being punked. It was truly that remarkably bad. Some examples of what I encountered: 1. I had a sleeve that needed a slight taper (super easy job). Instead one of the sleeves was sewn shut in the middle of the sleeve. Yes, sewn shut. Yes, in the middle of the sleeve. When I asked them to fix it they told me that nothing was wrong. I had to stand in my bra, trying to put the sleeve on in front of them, while arguing with them about it, to get them to acknowledge that they had made a mistake. They were combative about a problem they made and not at all apologetic. They only apologized once I said something about them not even bothering to apologize. 2. They returned a brand new dress to me in a wrinkled, dirty and frayed condition. When they went to "Fix" it by cutting the frays away they put holes in it. Small holes that will run when I wear or wash it. Also, when I pointed out what was wrong, yet again I got a combabtive attitude. Instead of apologizing, they asked me if I was sure if it was new when I gave it to them. Funny thing about that: I had borrowed their scissors to cut the tags off of the dress in front of them. 3. Created poofs of fabric on the wasit of a dress that my husband is still laughing about. He says it is the first time I have gone to the tailor and returned with a dress that looks worse than when I brought it. I asked if this was her vision for the dress and was told how nice I look in it and that she was done working on it. Okay... 4. A brand new shirt returned to me with a button missing (again with the, "Are you sure it was new?" question and also the tags still on it while they are saying this to me). The shirt was a size too big when I brought it to them and they did not follow their own pinning so the shirt ended up too small. The stitching was messy, excessive and uneven. Like someone put it on a sewing maching and did it 3-4 times over the same spot without care for following the same path each time. I gave her my spare button and asked her to put it back the way it was when I came in and left it at that. Still had to pay for it. 5. I needed the V in a V-neck dress to be sewn shut for a bit more modesty and it took 3 times for them to still get it wrong. The first time they folded the fabric on itself and created a strange pocket/poof of fabric along the chest, the second time the V was crooked and not sewn all the way to the top of the V so another strange look across the chest and the third time they added a flap (not sure why they added a flap as I did not ask for a flap and it too did not lay flat). At that point I gave up on that dress. And so it went on other items as well. There was nothing that came back to me done as pinned or as discussed. And there was no offer for compensation or even acknowledgement that something was wrong--even when sewing a sleeve shut! If you want to risk clothes being ruined, having to argue over basic things and going back repeatedly to get only some of your stuff wearable then this is your tailor. To be fair, I took my clothes here becaue she did an amazing job on my husband's clothes. He is even likely to still frequent this establishment. As such, I think she might be one of those tailors that is great at men's clothes and not so great at women's tailoring. Also, says she folds rather than cuts so I might still have a chance for another tailor to fix these item. Still, due to the issues I encountered, I personally will never go back and I would urge every woman to BEWARE. read more

Best bang for buck. A tuxedo that I have needed some major edits and the tuxedo is well fitted. Pricing was very fair and much lower than the suiting experts all over the city. OMG!! STAY AWAY! I cannot even begin to tell you how bad this place is. I took a $600 dress in to be hemmed and have the sides taken in a little. I had to go back 5 times and they moved the seams so much that the material is ruined. This was a very simple job - not at all difficult. The dress will never be ok. And to top it off, I had to explain more than 10 times why I wanted my money back - over $100 - and they said that they didn't understand. And when I was in there waiting for them to try to fix it for the last time, a couple came in to get the shirt he was going to wear to his wedding - and they completely messed it up!! Turns out the business has just sold - so all the good yelp reviews are from the PREVIOUS OWNERS!! So their advertising says 40 years experience - but these people are new and I think that is really false advertising. I used them because of the good yelp reviews - I hope I can save others from this horrible place. Just go ANYWHERE ELSE. read more
