My husband walked out with one small and a big box. We got home the pizza with four topping had one topping and extra sauce.. Not ordered. Second pizza had hardly any pepperoni , definitely not extra. For 42$. What the heck . Called to get an answer . Man was rude and told me he made the pizza and didn't want to crowd my pizza. What? Couple co-workers and I ordered lunch in and got a pepperoni pizza, white pizza (can't remember the name), and dusted wings. The wings were large and hot, but not particularly noteworthy otherwise. Ordered from here for the first time. Pick up on a weeknight. Ordered their deep dish pizza with meatballs. Ordered through Grub Hub and total came out to around $20, with a $10 credit from Grub Hub. What's Hot - Quality. Pretty good deep dish pizza! The crust is definitely deep dish and holds up well. What I also enjoyed is that although the crust is deep dish, it's not too thick/overly ready. No skimping on the toppings, which is a good thing, given the price of the pizza (especially when you add in the price per topping). The meatball topping was plentiful and delicious. There's a pretty good amount of cheese, as well. If I had to guess, probably 1/2 inch worth of cheese on the pizza. Pretty impressive! Additionally, they add the tomato sauce on top of the cheese, and not in between the cheese and the crust. Makes the pizza smell more flavorful and delicious, but adds to the messiness of eating the pizza. Not a bad thing, but just be aware. Haha... - Service/speed. Pizza was ready on time for pick up, but see additional comments below. I appreciate that the food was ready based on their original approximation. What's Not - Health and safety protocols. When hubby and I arrived to pick up our pizza, we didn't see any signs asking customers to wear masks. None of the 3 staff, that we saw, wore masks. However, the staff were talking to 2 other customers there. The customers wore masks, but not the staff. This is a very tense time, during the pandemic. I understand if the staff don't want to wear masks when there are no customers. However, when there are customers around and the staff don't wear masks, it makes me uncertain. - Location. It's not in an easy-to-find location. The location is pretty inconvenient to get to and the parking lot is very small. There are so many windy roads to get here. Can you tell I'm not a native Pittsburgher? Haha... Unfortunately, what that means is that you better be prepared for your pizza to jostle around during the drive. - They don't update the app. Because hubby and I ordered through Grub Hub, that means the restaurant needs to update the app as to the status of the order. Fortunately, hubby and I timed out our drive to the pizzeria, after placing our order. Thankfully, the pizza was ready when we arrived to pick it up. But the pizzeria didn't update the app to send us a notification. While it's not the worse thing in the world, one of the benefits of using food order apps, like Grub Hub, Uber Eats, Door Dash, whatever, is that the restaurant can provide updates as to when the order will be ready for pick up. When a restaurant does not actively work with the app, it can add to the inconvenience and uncertainty of ordering takeaway orders. - Didn't slice through the entire pizza. To be fair, it's a pretty deep dish pizza and this isn't the worse problem to have. However, because they didn't slice through to the bottom of the pizza, it was pretty difficult separating the slices from each other when hubby and I took each slice of pizza. Not slicing through to the bottom of the crust, also makes it messier. Additionally, all the slices were not the same size. I don't expect them to be perfect, but some slices were double the size of other smaller pieces. - Price. The deep dish pizza is only a cheese pizza and you have to pay for each additional topping, ranging anywhere between $3 to $4 per topping. Hubby and I didn't like that part, because each topping is fairly pricey. It would have been nice to have predetermined options of pizza (like veggie, pepperoni, meat lovers, etc...). To be fair, I'm not a fan of paying for each additional topping. That makes the balance go up very easily. Final Answer Willing to come back here again, mainly because there aren't many good deep dish pizza joints around. read more

Cardello Pizza was recently mentioned in the Washington Post as one of the top six places to get a Chicago style pizza in the state. https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/2023/09/01/pizza-favorite-styles-chicago/ So, we drove up from Pittsburgh to see what it was all about. It's a small place, tucked away on a side street. It has no seating, and a laid back, sleepy vibe. I had to wonder, how does a national publication like The Post find a place like this? As for the pizza, of course we got the Chicago! And we were not disappointed. In fact, we loved it. Generous, wonderfully aromatic sauce. The crust was light, and even had a nice little crunch on the bottom. It was not overladen with cheese and other fats, but had enough for flavor (some may prefer heavier, and I suppose you could have them lay it on). Ordered a buffalo chicken pizza. When it got delivered, we realized it was just cheese. Spoke to someone on the phone and they said they could either deliver a new buffalo chicken pizza or credit for a future order. I chose the pizza. The delivery man gave us the correct pizza and then asked for the wrong pizza back. I've never experienced this in my life. He stated the owner was new and wanted the wrong pizza back. With the COVID-19 Pandemic in full-swing, takeout and delivery have become essential. As such, I have been trying different Pizza and takeout options from around the area. Living in Sewickley, even mediocre pizza that doesn't cost an arm and a leg is hard to find. It's incredible that the best tasting pie costs 17 bucks (Mambo) and can barely feed 1 person. So, we have to look outside the Sewickley bubble for Pizza options and last night I decided to give Cardello's a shot. I ordered online through their website (Slice) which was very simple and user friendly. I got a subsequent text as soon as my order was ready. I got the Chicago-Style deep-dish with Pepperoni. It was honestly the best pizza I've had in a long time. The key to a great pie for me is that the whole thing doesn't fall apart when trying to eat it. The sauce was homemade, had a nice kick of oregano, and really complimented the dough. The pizza, though lukewarm upon arrival home was to be expected. The crust had a really unexpected excellent blend of crisp underneath and soft on the outside. Overall, this may be my new Go-To pizza place in the area. Leaps and bounds above anything else I've had recently (Roma, Mambo, Vocelli). Also definitely worth supporting SBO in these times. Thanks for a great dinner, keep up the good work. read more

Tucked away on a corner, this unassuming Pizza Place is a wonder, which should not be overlooked! We chose the Chicago style deep dish pizza. It was a tantalizing surprise as everything was from scratch! Starting with the fabulous homemade crust with just enough height to nestle in our delightful toppings. Delicious meatballs placed as a strong base, along with generous portions of ham. Fresh mushrooms which had been sautéed in butter sprinkled about, then it had been covered with cheese and baked. Coming out of the oven it was topped with garden fresh warm sauce with chunks of flavorful tomatoes. Then dusted with Parmesan. We ordered a regular cheese pizza after I called and made sure that their sauce is vegetarian because ny husband is very strict with his diet. We recieved a soggy, flat "Chicago style" pizza instead but assumed it was just cheese and didn't want to conplain. My husband got through almost two pieces before I started eating, cut mine up, and found pepperoni! He doesn't know what pepperoni tastes like so he didn't notice but he can't properly digest meat. I called Cardello about the pizza and they said I should be happy to have it because it cost more than the pizza we wanted. I asked them to please bring me the cheese pizza I ordered and the man berated me and insisted the half eaten pizza back, acting like I stole it! He said he was losing money by having to make another pizza for the customer who got my order instead of theirs so he needed it back. I told him that's ok I guess but was confused. (It grossed me out and I hope he was just being spiteful or planned on eating it himself instead of repacking it or something since he had to make and deliver another identical pizza.) My husband called Cardello back and told them to please just give us a refund and not worry about another pizza. They were just rude and then blew us off, no pizza and no refund. I looked it up and the difference between the pizza we wanted and the one that my husband has been throwing up is $10, so that's what being nasty to people is worth I guess. We ordered two pizzas and zucchini. The one pizza was fine. The zucchini was a little burnt but good. But the second pizza was wildly undercooked the entire middle being just dough. I attempted to contact cardellos directly for a simply remake of the pizza. But the owner of the place told me his oven wasnt broken and it wasnt his fault. He then hung up on me. I called again and asked for a refund and told me to call grubhub. I called the customer support team who apparantly just calls the owner of the shop to see if a refund can be given. He told them no. I had to sit on hold for 30 minutes to get a refund for a pile if dough sauce and cheese that isnt cooked properly to finally get a refund. I have honestly never had their pizza; but, I've ordered almost every salad on their menu. Overall, they are all yummy - try the Greek dressing on anything! But, it is extremely inconsistent- you can never expect the same exact quantity or quality out of each order. Sometimes the pitas a burnt on the gyro salad, sometimes you only get a few buffalo chips on the buffalo chicken salad, sometimes you get under seasoned chicken on the chicken salad, etc.. For the past eight years, my family has ordered from Cardello's literally hundreds of times. We have tried everything on the menu. This is a place to get pick-up or delivery, not to sit down and eat. The restaurant itself is tiny, cramped, busy, and hot. Even placing phone orders can be difficult because of how loud it is. We always place orders for delivery on their website. Over the past eight years, Cardello's hasn't been perfect every time. They have delivered the wrong order or didn't bring the full order, but they always corrected their mistakes and brought back what was wrong or missed. They have always been polite and apologetic to us. There have been times where they took two whole hours to deliver our food, but are typically spot-on with their estimated arrival times. Overall, especially compared to the other pizza places in the area, Cardello's is our local favorite. Best: Appetizers, pizza, flatbreads, calzones/strombolis, hoagies, and burgers. Just Okay: Their pasta tastes good and is very filling, but I always feel unhealthy after eating the huge amount of greasy cheese they put on top. Their salads are enormous with a good heaping of toppings, but there is never enough salad dressing to coat just how much lettuce they cram in. Bad: Their cinnamon balls are terrible. My husband and i have ordered from them for almost 2 years now and the last order we recieved we got a pepperoni pizza that was undercooked. We called to let them know and the manager was extremely rude saying he cooks the pizza a certain way and it wasnt his problem and to call grubhub, who we ordered through then hung up on us. I called back using my phone and told him he shouldn't treat his customers like this especially because we order often. He said it wasnt his fault the pizza was undercooked and if we have a complaint to call grubhub. The pita from the gyro platter was heavy and tasted like a halfway baked fried bread while the chicken looked boiled with herbs and then lightly toasted in an oven. The tzatziki sauce was probably the only thing that saved the entire sandwich. Lastly, the wings were soggy and lightly seasoned with hot sauce. Don't waste your money and go any place but here. My fiancee had to leave the house and drive to the restaurant. When he arrived others were waiting too and the woman at the business told a customer that she will give her the food for free because she had to wait. My fiancee had to drive there to talk to her and the woman was angry and only gave him the money back for the sandwich. The whole situation was unacceptable.
