Chicago Style Deep Dish Cheese Pizza
Rachel S.

Ordered from here for the first time. Pick up on a weeknight. Ordered their deep dish pizza with meatballs. Ordered through Grub Hub and total came out to around $20, with a $10 credit from Grub Hub. What's Hot - Quality. Pretty good deep dish pizza! The crust is definitely deep dish and holds up well. What I also enjoyed is that although the crust is deep dish, it's not too thick/overly ready. No skimping on the toppings, which is a good thing, given the price of the pizza (especially when you add in the price per topping). The meatball topping was plentiful and delicious. There's a pretty good amount of cheese, as well. If I had to guess, probably 1/2 inch worth of cheese on the pizza. Pretty impressive! Additionally, they add the tomato sauce on top of the cheese, and not in between the cheese and the crust. Makes the pizza smell more flavorful and delicious, but adds to the messiness of eating the pizza. Not a bad thing, but just be aware. Haha... - Service/speed. Pizza was ready on time for pick up, but see additional comments below. I appreciate that the food was ready based on their original approximation. What's Not - Health and safety protocols. When hubby and I arrived to pick up our pizza, we didn't see any signs asking customers to wear masks. None of the 3 staff, that we saw, wore masks. However, the staff were talking to 2 other customers there. The customers wore masks, but not the staff. This is a very tense time, during the pandemic. I understand if the staff don't want to wear masks when there are no customers. However, when there are customers around and the staff don't wear masks, it makes me uncertain. - Location. It's not in an easy-to-find location. The location is pretty inconvenient to get to and the parking lot is very small. There are so many windy roads to get here. Can you tell I'm not a native Pittsburgher? Haha... Unfortunately, what that means is that you better be prepared for your pizza to jostle around during the drive. - They don't update the app. Because hubby and I ordered through Grub Hub, that means the restaurant needs to update the app as to the status of the order. Fortunately, hubby and I timed out our drive to the pizzeria, after placing our order. Thankfully, the pizza was ready when we arrived to pick it up. But the pizzeria didn't update the app to send us a notification. While it's not the worse thing in the world, one of the benefits of using food order apps, like Grub Hub, Uber Eats, Door Dash, whatever, is that the restaurant can provide updates as to when the order will be ready for pick up. When a restaurant does not actively work with the app, it can add to the inconvenience and uncertainty of ordering takeaway orders. - Didn't slice through the entire pizza. To be fair, it's a pretty deep dish pizza and this isn't the worse problem to have. However, because they didn't slice through to the bottom of the pizza, it was pretty difficult separating the slices from each other when hubby and I took each slice of pizza. Not slicing through to the bottom of the crust, also makes it messier. Additionally, all the slices were not the same size. I don't expect them to be perfect, but some slices were double the size of other smaller pieces. - Price. The deep dish pizza is only a cheese pizza and you have to pay for each additional topping, ranging anywhere between $3 to $4 per topping. Hubby and I didn't like that part, because each topping is fairly pricey. It would have been nice to have predetermined options of pizza (like veggie, pepperoni, meat lovers, etc...). To be fair, I'm not a fan of paying for each additional topping. That makes the balance go up very easily. Final Answer Willing to come back here again, mainly because there aren't many good deep dish pizza joints around.

Pizza was delish. I've prefer it with "light" sauce. This way we didn't all die of heart burn later.

Remnants ! Taco Pizza from Cardellos just ain't gonna last long in my presence .

Well ok just an updated perspective : sometimes you just gotta ditch ONLY PIZZA . This place has excellent Gyros, pepperoni rolls with sauce ( like mini pizza)

Much better than expected. Best pie I have had in years. I am eating this for the next two days . Best $16 spent in a long time. Delivery took 25 minutes - quoted 30. Granted was a 2:45 call - but so what Would recommend - especially if you are from Indy and don't know what a pizza is.

$10 for lunch right into the trash. Needless to say we won't be back.

This might be one of my worst lunch experiences yet. Chicken parmesan hoagie lunch special. Nothing was edible. Fries were completely saturated in what tasted like decade old oil. Chicken had the same gross old grease taste. My co worker and I both took two bites and pitched it in the trash. Should have followed my gut when we walked in and saw how unclean and dusty the kitchen was. Edit: 2 hours later I'm still burping up that grease taste and have one heck of an upset stomach.

Even though it was late we were greeted with exceptional customer service and were seated at a table. Our waiter, Remi with an I and not a Y was absolutely fabulous. He made great suggestions and the food did not disappoint. I ordered the 16 inch pepperoni with bacon. My daughter ordered the pepperoni roll and my wife ordered the meatballs and 2 Bianca slices. My wife's name is also Bianca so a double bonus. Our food came out about 15 minutes later and everything was piping hot. To my surprise the pepperoni came with the real bacon strips on top and not your average bacon bits. The sourdough is top notch as well. I ate 6 of the 8 slices while my daughter ate two along with her pepperoni roll. My daughter enjoyed her roll but did wish it had more cheese. My wife enjoyed her meatballs. They give you 4 and are a decent size. She was only able to eat 3. The Bianca slice is a healthy thick slice. Overall, we enjoyed our time at Driftwood. The service was OUTSTANDING (Remi). The food was good. We ended up staying 20 minutes past closing and didn't notice any change in customer service. This place is definitely worth a shot.

This shop will cook your pizza half cooked, as a lot of people like. We like ours well done cooked even longer than maybe the traditional cook time so we always request that. When my son went to pick up our pizza it was already sitting on the counter it had not been 15 since minutes since the order was placed. When he grabbed the box it was kinda wet on the bottom of box so we don't know if they set it on the counter on top of something ,but it was more than just extra sauce and onions that made the soggy like they assumed. We tried to recook it and when we took the pizza out of the box all the cardboard inside of the box was wet like something had been literally poured inside the box. I could barely get it out because it was so soggy it was falling apart. We live less than 5 minutes driving time so it was not from steam and cooking it more once we got home did not help it was that wet.. I have never seen pizza that soggy. I had my son call and they did not offer anything except advice on not to order onions or extra sauce when its humid out. We would have like a re-cooked pizza and to return the one we had especially since we had company. It was too wet to pick up a slice and inedible. So, if the owners see this maybe they'd like to somehow rectify it because now I have to start my grill to feed my company. Furthermore, if a customer orders extra sauce and onions on a pizza that.we are asking to be cooked well done an your only job is to cook pizza, you should advise the customer that it won't be crisp. We've ordered it that way before.. and as I said this was far beyond just soggy it was literally wet..and the 2 that ventured to eat it ,now have a stomach ache. It was most certainly undercooked and so wet it couldn't even be rebaked.
