Multiple open pool tables, pull tabs, darts, and many more bar favorites make the Cardinal Restaurant and Bar a great spot! The waitress was very friendly and attentive. We got cheddar crisps and fried green beans. A pitcher of beer kept our pool skills sharp and the place was not crowded mid-day on Saturday which allowed for good conversation.

Great spot with solid American fare, inexpensive taps, and plenty of games. Kid friendly space too! Golden Tee, Pool, darts and plenty of TV's to watch any game. Friendly and courteous wait staff working hard to keep customers happy! If you're in Minneapolis, it's worth a trip out of your way to view and experience this!

The cardinal is a an old fashion bar restaurant. We're neighborhood regulars hang out and talk about life. They occasionally have meat raffles and there specials are priced daily and the food is really tasty. The staff and owner are friendly and helpful

Cardinal Tavern is a semi-sketchy (in a good way), divey sports bar that is a perfect place to coat your digestive tract with grease and cold beer. Friendly staff, typical redneck decor, great variety of games and pull tabs. I came for the beef, though...2/3 lb of culinary erotica. Seriously, 2/3 lb of grill-kissed, masterfully seasoned steer smothered in molten american cheese, topped with crispy bacon and hugged by a soft, simple bun (toasted & buttered, of course) for under $10. I'm not crying, you're crying. The patties were seared to medium and came in slightly thicker than your typical double -- this thing was hefty! The buns held up very well and the only thing I would've changed would be adding a second slice of American or Habenero Jack per patty, because why not?! In all seriousness, if you're a fan of neighborhood joints that crush classic pub fare, get your ass into Cardinal Bar. I can tell you, with confidence, that their food and service will lift you to the heavens as if you're being carried by a flock of.....Cardinals? Also, their Waffle Fries with Cajun Sour Cream brought the house down. Everyone moaned after trying them. Ridiculously good.

Ask the Community - Cardinal Tavern

    Do they have pull tabs?

    Yes, they have pull tabs.

What are the fries and onion rings like? Do they allow take out?

Pretty good. Nothing real spectacular. The fries are crinkle cuts, the onion rings don't taste home made, but will satisfy the craving.

When I mentioned to a friend I was…read moregoing to visit the bookstore across the street, they immediately recommended grabbing lunch at Northbound. I loved the cheese curds, mac and cheese and the hushpuppies were also standouts. I opted for the brisket bowl, which I enjoyed...the pickles were also delicious. All my friends opted for the pulled chicken sandwich, and they all said it was good. Quick service and great outdoor patio for a nice day!

We decided to eat at Northbound for dinner on a bustling Independence Day Eve at 7PM. Walking up to…read morethe restaurant, it seemed like there would be a small wait, but luckily for us, a table just opened up as we walked through the doors. Even with how busy the place was, I didn't find the service to be too slow. The food took about 10 minutes to come out. Cheese Curds ($12.50) - Interesting curds. They're covered and fried in a leavened waffle batter, which gives a more airy type of crisp on the outside. It's more robust than normal cheese curd batter, but has that lighter and softer waffle crunch. The texture inside is right in between being soft and gooey but has enough firmness for a slight squeaky behavior. I actually don't prefer this texture - I massively prefer one extreme or the other, either completely squeaky, or completely softened and melted. The curds are all separated with some mini batter nubs spread around for extra crunch. The curds comes with a ranch dip that has fresh herbs in buttermilk and for some reason reminds me of thousand island in taste. (4/5) 18-hr Porketta ($17.50) + Fries Upgrade (+$2.50) - This is a very simple sandwich with Northbound's famous 18 hour porketta, some Swiss cheese melted on top, and finally some softened sliced onion in a brioche bun. The porketta is essentially pulled pork and is lean with basically no fat. It's seasoned well with a good fennel and spiced aroma The flavors are quite pronounced and while the pork is relatively tender for the cut, some fat would do some major justice. The fries are mediocre. They are clearly hand cut and fried in house, but they are a little underfried since the interiors are firm rather than fluffy and they are floppy in texture. Meh. The porketta comes with a sauce that's fruity, tangy, and acidic. It's surprisingly great for the cheese curds since the curds are so heavy and fatty. (4/5) Overall I found the food at Northbound to be good enough but nothing particularly outstanding. I certainly don't think it was worth the 45 minute round trip drive. but I wouldn't mind eating there again if I happened to be in the area in the future. What do you get when you combined dill pickles and fried chicken? Heaven…read more If you are a fried chicken (and pickles) lover, you definitely need to try out Bull's Horn, a cozy local joint Minneapolis has to offer. You cannot go wrong with any of their entrees but I'd always go for their chicken basket to share with friends, and a side of fries. Their chicken is coated perfectly with dill seasoning, crunchy bread coating is coated nicely and the meat always comes out juicy and tender. The fries are also lovely and they always pair nicely when eating chicken. 5/5 recommend.

Today the place was packed due to the festivities, and the parking lot was transformed into a large patio with a DJ, a small bar area, and an outdoor bbq that was slinging burgers, 1/4 pound hot dogs, tots, and popcorn chicken. There was also a meat raffle going on as well. Since it was pretty hot out, we decided to get a seat inside. The seating for today was largely communal to accommodate the large crowd, and we found a seat for the three of us. I went outside to get a smash burger, 1/4 pound hotdog, and a basket of tots. The wife stayed inside with the kiddo to order some drinks. The food cooking outside took tickets ($5 a ticket) and 5 tickets were bought for the food. Not a bad deal in my book. The food took under 10 minutes to get, and the cooks were working the fryers and flattop grill like pros. The smash burger was a nice size, came with cheese and grilled onions, and was on a brioche bun. The hot dog was a nice size, and the tots were plentiful, hot, and crispy out of the outside fryer. Run of the mill condiments were also available, and serve yourself. The wife said the smash burger was better than I make, and I make a pretty damn good burger. While we were eating, I totally felt the dive bar feel, and had the feeling this was pretty much a local bar hangout. Supposedly it's been around for over 70 years (with a name change). After eating, we went outside to see if we could win some meat in the raffle but didn't get lucky. We will come back though. Evidently every 4th Wednesday they have another meat raffle at the bar. The good news is the kiddo won a huge cake on the cake walk contest! We will definitely be back. I want to try their fried dill pickle broasted chicken. Time to eat some cake!
