I bought the 10 class group on and have already gotten my money's worth in 3 classes. It's a great workout. It's low impact, but you sweat a ton and get your heart rate up rather quickly. You also get to work out the entire body. I used to dance, and a lot came back naturally, but it certainly was challenging. It's high paced so it's over before you know it (and right when you're ready to stop). I've had 3 different teachers in the 3 classes I've taken and I liked all of them. They keep you motivated and check on everyone throughout. I also am recently pregnant and was worried I wouldn't be able to go back but it turns out they have modifications you can do and they encourage you to go at your own pace. (They also say this for your first class.) The people seem friendly enough, but it's not cultish. There are women of all ages and races and body types, which I really like. They do have parking (not a ton, but seemingly enough), but it's also accessible by bus (which I have done two of the 3 times). I'll definitely be back. read more

OMG!!! Is it possible to smile and be in pain at the same time? YES! I used a groupon to take this class and I will be joining as soon as I'm done with my 10 classes. I've been a gymrat for over 20 years and have found an amazing all over workout that includes cardio and inspirational teachers. LOVE LOVE LOVE Rachel. I love you Cardio Barre. I went to the advanced early morning class for over a year- 3 x's a week, and was in the best shape I have been in, in years. (studio city) I looked and felt great! I quit going because I could not pay for classes unless I did a package deal....but could not afford that....so I quit and lost all that amazing beautiful toned, gorgeous muscle that I had worked so hard to get! When I went back about a year later to the Hollywood class, the advanced class kicked my butt and my lungs....but I am happy to say I bought a group on last nighttttttttt and am going to get back on the cb program. Updating my four star to a perfect five. I always felt this is by far the best class, even among various barre classes, in the valley but I previously gave it a four star because it seemed that some of their instructors were not as good as they used to be. I have noticed, however, in the last six months Carbiobarre has slowly changed back to what it used to be and has hired back pretty awesome and amazing instructors. So grateful I have this class to go to after work and sometimes on the weekend... It will challenge you for as longs as you want to be challenged! read more

I've been going to Cardio Barre for about 5 months now,and I absolutely love it!!! I've tried lots of different classes, from boot classes,to spin classes,to the gym,and never stuck with it, but I'm completely addicted to this class!!! I go three times a week, and i still take the beginner class cause it kicks my butt that good!! I've seen such an improvement in my body,my strength, and overall endurance in class. Now let's talk about Jess my instructor.... OMG I LOVE THIS GIRL!!! She is such a inspiration and motivator!!! So friendly,outgoing,caring,and always there to help. When I first came to this class she asked if there was any first timers,I raised my hand,and all threw out class she was right there guiding me,showing me how to execute the moves properly,and even stayed after class to answer any questions I had,now that I'm a regular,she continues to show me the same attention she has from the very beginning,except now she challenges me to push harder stronger and faster, which I love,cause it's working!!! She knows everyone's name in class, and shows so much love to everyone. Been coming for years. If you really want to get into shape this is the place to go. If you go about three times a week you will totally see the difference and it's zero impact so you can go for a long time. I'm a very big fan of Cardio Barre and it's a really effective workout. It does wonders for anyone like me who is very concerned about keeping her bum in great shape! Lisa's beginner class on M/W 7:30-8:30P is awesome! She's extremely attentive and makes sure you're doing all the movements correctly. However, the class is still very fast paced. With respect to other posts commenting on the music played in class, I haven't noticed any chipmunk sounding music. Yes, the music is very poppy, but I don't think in any of my classes would I expect to work out under Mozart! I'm just saying... read more

I used to love it here! A regular for a good few years. But every single one of the teachers that inspired and moved me are gone. Gone! All of them!!! I live really close so I can't complain about the parking. It's an incredible workout, and I've tried going back more than a few times... but aside from a few (Francesco is great. But teaching too many classes to be inspired like before). All the other teachers, although nice and trying, they are just so new. They don't understand the class, like the others did. There have been times I felt like I should take over, (not really), but... really. They don't use the language that others did to help those that know that class backwards and forwards, to help them go deeper. And for some of the beginners, I don't hear them using the same language or holds and tweaks that the teachers I had, gave me, that made cardio such a worthwhile experience. It's very sad that they all left. And I know they left for a reason. They were what made cardio barre great, and they should have been valued as such. I don't think they were. But as a result I never feel like going anymore. Richard brought in all these new classes, that aren't better. At least not in my opinion. I think there is a lot out there right now. It's a fun glass to try if you get a Groupon or a deal. You will still be blown away your first time! But experiencing what I did before verses what it is now... too expensive for what you get. read more

Although it is a great idea and I would love to look like a dancer. I did love the instructor and the community is fun. I feel the space is nice too, but after conducting several classes my hips and low back really hurt. I decided to go to a personal trainer and he said that ballet was never meant to be so fast. The idea that you move your body in ballet positions fast is the reason there was so much strain on my low back and hip flexors. Now I take a true barre class that combines dance too.. This is a much better fit for me. read more

I've been Cardio Barre-ing it for at least 5 years now and am finally writing a review. I'm writing it for the Studio City location though I rarely work out here, because this is directed at Richard Giorla, the owner of the franchise who I believe still owns this studio...(? Maybe not, but it is "the original" so apologies to current owners if that's not the case.) First, the good: I've been doing this workout for 5 years, so clearly I'm not completely crazy (wait...am I?). It's a good all around low impact one hour workout that is extremely convenient (I live close to 2 studios) and goes by fast. I've long since stopped seeing any changes to my body, but it has kept me in shape and got me back to fighting weight/size post-pregnancy. Also was a decent workout for during pregnancy, as it is, again, low-impact -- I would modify about 1/4 of the class while pregnant, and could do my normal shiz for the rest. The teachers are GREAT, I LOVE my teachers -- Rocky in Hwd, Micki, Byron and Angela in ER, Hannah and Aqua in BH and so many others... the teachers make it all happen and work super hard for not enough $ and I love them and appreciate them to no end. I know corporate franchise owners like to blame teachers when long-time students like me become disenchanted but this is not about the fantastic, wonderful instructors. Nor is it about the beleaguered studio owners who keep giving up because the McDonalds business model makes it impossible to succeed (seriously, since I've been doing CB all of the studios I regularly go to have changed owners, sometimes more than once). As you can probably figure out, my real grudge about Cardio Barre is aimed at the honchos (or honcho) at the top. I don't like you, corporate honchos, not even a little bit, because you so clearly don't like me, the long-time loyal student/customer who keeps coming back year after year and spending my money and telling my friends and keeping your asses in biz. In the 5 years I've been CBing it, I have been privy to maybe 3 promotions, tops. All energy is focussed on getting new students in the door, clearly reflected in the constant Groupons and other promotions new students are offered. (There is -- finally -- some ridiculous point system for regular, non-new students where you get 1 free class for every 500 paid classes or something, but it's too little, too late.) Furthermore, the powers that be have raised prices twice in the time I've been coming here (from $16 to $17 to $18 and are about to go to $19), and forced all studios to do the same. Mind you, this is with NO variations to the workout -- that's right, Nothing. Changes. Ever. It is the same class, with the same sequences in the same order, year after year after year. Nothing added, nothing improved upon, exactly the same product for more and more (and more) $. If teachers deviate from the formula (and some freely do, despite extreme pressure not to, for which I am eternally grateful you cardio rebels) they are written up. I know the owners want to compete with the much more expensive/hip Soul Cycle, but I'm sorry, SC is newer and fresher and the people who go know that they are paying out the nose from the get. Cardio Barre has been around a long time, as reflected in the yellowed, framed clippings on the walls, and that's ok, it is working for some people. But those people want to feel valued by the business they are so loyal to and where they spend their hard-earned dollars, and this reporter is not feeling the love. Good workout, but practically no instruction or explanation of the dancing terms, even in the Beginners Class! I think its a wee bit lame for an instructor to say to a beginners class: "I see a lot of 1st timers - find 2 veteran students to go between at the barre" and then proceed to start the class with NO EXPLANATION of "position 2", "releve", etc.... The class is crowded with newbies, & I'm supposed to be able to figure out if the person in front of me is doing it RIGHT when I've never done this???? Really poor teaching, I've gotta say - and it NEVER got better! Luckily, I had taken dance in college & knew a few of the terms, but I definitely could have used a refresher! Plus, the website doesn't really tell you what to bring or wear, so I showed up to a ballet class in sneakers, & for the floor work, you need a large towel and all I had was a hand towel. I've been a customer of Cardio Barre since 2011 and they just raised their prices including their unlimited from $169 to $229. They briefly tried to raise it to $299 making it a 75% mark up (who does that) and its just money gouging. I get raising your prices but to then add extreme restrictions on having to be locked into a year contract to take advantage of their unlimited deal. I, like many folks have a life that doesn't cater to that kind of strict contract. I work and live out of country often. I tried to email the owner and reason with them but they clearly don't care about their customers. Money is more important to them then being loyal to their clientele. I will be looking for a different establishment to put my money into, that cares about their members. Please bring back the monthly option of unlimited. I tried an introductory class at Cardio Barre about 3 years ago, but never went back the second time. When I saw the Groupon offer recently I thought I would try it again and signed up. Even though the offer said "New Clients Only", I didn't consider trying one class years ago made me one of their clients. Most places say, if you haven't been in 6 mo. you can sign up. However, when I went to take the first class they denied my Groupon because I was still in their system. I told the girl at the front that she can see I was only there once years ago and that should not qualify mee as their client, but she said that I should just contact Groupon for a refund. Man I love cardio barre. Been coming here for over ten years. But lately things are different. They got rid of great teachers like Kevin. But also they got rid of mid day classes. I tried to email them about if they could bring it back but they didn't even respond. It's like they don't care about their customers anymore to even reply. Things have changed a lot and I feel like maybe they don't care if you have been there forever and have bragged about it for years. Vibe is very different. Also I never had a problem with Parking for ten years but now I have to walk over two blocks. It's crazy! I love cardio barre. Don't get me wrong. But lately things have been different. It's as if the owner doesn't care anymore or is too busy doing other stuff I don't know. I know a lot of people complain that it's the same old moves but what those people don't understand is if you stick to those moves they work better than anything else!!! I swear. But if cardio barre doesn't have enough class times then I can't get there enough to make it work. I don't want cardio barre to go away. A friend took me once and we the instructor was great and workout very fun. It isn't the type of exercise that will make you sweat or sore, but it was a good time. The next week when I saw a groupon for classes there I was very excited and purchased it. However, when I tried to redeem it I was told they were unable to redeem the groupon because I wasn't a first time customer. I was told that this was in the fine print, however the groupon states it is for new customers, not first time customers. Considering I had only been there once and been treated to a class I thought I'd be considered a new or new enough customer to redeem the groupon. The reason I am only giving one star to this facility isnt even this frustrating experience, but rather that the front desk receptionist, Fallon was extremely rude, snide and had terrible customer service. read more

For the the angry mongers below me calling this a joke workout and saying they don't break a sweat, they obviously aren't squeezing their midsections and asses and holding in properly, with correct posture. All of this goes into account for people trying to perfect this artform. For the lady complaining that the women up front aren't up your asses when you sign in, to me that's a blessing. I just came in , felt comfortable and threw my bag next to the bar I sit next to. Who the Fck cares if these instructors are uniformed or not?! How stuck up and pathetic. I came to sweat, not to judge the place based on cheesy uniforms. The instructor's ripped bodies are uniforms enough for me! A little on my background, from the age of 3 I was trained by prima ballerinas until the age of 17. I continued off and on with dance, then in my early twenties, I got lazy and thought I'd always be skinny. I did spin classes, ab classes, always had gym memberships..but nothing kept my stubborn weight off. This is seriously the NOLY thing that has worked for me. I'm down 25 lbs and look similar to when I was in high school. If your being lazy and not properly doing the moves, you won't break a sweat...and it's not just moving fast if you are keeping the correct form. I would love to look at the shapes and sizes of women complaining about the 'workout'. Because I'm actuve and have been everywhere and tried everything and this is by far the best thing my body's ever experienced, I see the difference after one class. I recently purchased the cd and that as well has done wonders, as it is the exact class, and I use a high chair as a bar. I purchased the Living Social deal for 10 classes for $36 after hearing many friends rave about Cardio Barre. Halfway through these initial classes, I can definitely say I'm officially addicted. This is perhaps my favorite workout ever. The hour FLIES by, the music is great, the instructors (Jess is my favorite I've tried so far, her beginner classes are amazing) are super encouraging and motivating, and you get an incredible workout. I did ballet as a child but hadn't in years, but I definitely found a working knowledge of basic ballet positions and moves helpful. Be prepared to be sore for a while after your first few classes! It works muscles you don't even realize you have. Everyone is very pleasant and the studio is very clean. Street parking, but I have never had a problem. A friend just gifted me 3 additional classes for my birthday, and my only lament is that the usual price is so high that it may be hard to justify continuing once I complete my deal/gift. read more

I have been taking classes at Cardiobarre Studio City for over five years. It's a great workout that helped me get in shape after having a baby, and it has helped me build up strength, stamina, and coordination. My favorite instructors are Marita, Laura, and Kevin, and I highly recommend taking classes with any of them. All three are clearly committed to their "dancers" (as cardiobarre clients are called), learning names, making appropriate corrections, and maintaining an upbeat and nurturing environment. I really appreciate that Marita and Laura are women of around my own age and moms, to boot--they are strong, fit, and motivating--they really are an inspiration! The first time I went, I took Marita's Saturday Intro class to learn the ropes, and she made me want to come back. If you're a newbie to barre classes, I recommend taking her Intro class once before moving on to Beginner classes, if you can. Front desk receptionists are friendly and awesome, especially Fallon. All of the above merit a five-star rating. However, my rating for this business would be about a 3.5, if that were an option here on Yelp. What stops me from rating cardiobarre more highly overall is instructor turnover. In the five years that I have attended classes at Cardiobarre Studio City, skilled, experienced, veteran instructors have been let go by management, and in general, there has been a lack of consistency in instructor scheduling, in particular in the 4:30 and later class scheduling. I appreciate consistency and experience, and I think cardiobarre is at its best when an instructor gets to know the client and his or her particular challenges. The routines may not differ a lot from class to class, but I can tell you that the instructor's particular energy and experience DOES matter. And of course it's always nice to feel like one is patronizing a business that treats its employees well and with respect--to me, longevity is a good thing that provides evidence of good management! Also, it would be great if more effort were put into keeping the studio cooler in the summer months. And yes, as others have pointed out in reviews, when Groupons and Living Socials run (frequently), classes can feel over-crowded and especially stuffy, which is a bit vexing when you're paying full price. If you do decide to try it out, remember to bring a full-sized towel for floor work, and plenty of water. read more

No place should ever have carpet in my opinion. Although the carpet provides cushion and traction, using personal yoga mats for traction is more sanitary in my opinion. The parking is tight. The classes are packed; it's way too crowded (my guess is around 30 ppl were in class). For the price you pay ($19/class), I believe you should get more individual attention. The beginning class is challenging, if you don't take the intro class (if your new to cardio barre, take the intro class or you'll be lost on the beginning class). The teacher does model some exercise moves but not all (I was looking at a girl next to me do the moves, so I can copy her; find someone who looks like they know what they're doing). The music is loud and the selection is strange (e.g., Celine Dion's "my heart goes on" during cool down period). They need a waiting room, while you're still in class, the next class is waiting inside sitting along benches; it's awkward because you feel they're just staring at you waiting to grab a prime spot once you finish. Also when I was there, a mother decided to bring her son to class and the poor kid (who was very well behaved) just sat on the bench on his ipad. I like to exercise knowing that NO ONE can snap a photo or video..it's call privacy. Simple weird when your doing strange moves and the kid/others are looking. All in all, this is your classic barre class but just done faster. read more

So while i do prefer the Cardio Barre workout to Bar Method as it's a BIT easier and my heart rate is up faster for longer so theoretically burns more fat, i just don't understand why the bulk of their classes are back to back to back. It makes parking difficult and no one likes to enter a crowded class that's steamy and muggy from the sweat of the prior class. The loophole i have found to this is to hit the 7:00am class. it's beginning (though advanced gals don't seem to care and attend which is mildly annoying but at least you have someone to watch while the instructor isn't demonstrating just calling out names of moves), it's very uncrowded and the air is fresh. The only problem with that is that of the four 7:00am classes i have made it to, one time the instructor was there but no one was there to unlock the studio, but at least she went over the time missed at the end of the class; and today the studio was open but the teacher didn't get there until 7:09 and did NOT extend the class 9 minutes. Instead he raced through everything switching the moves so fast in the BEGINNING class that it was even harder for the BEGINNERS to follow along (and no they do not adjust you if you are doing things incorrectly, just occasionally bark out an order) and he cut all of the mini-pauses where they normally call out to stretch for a sec or if you wanted to take a swig of water you missed half of the next exercise reps. I've been going to Cardio Barre for 2 months now, 2-3 times a week. I must say I love it. I am totally hooked!!!! I like to go in the morning at 8:30 and yes it is a full class but it's also very fun. I find it that the fuller the class is the better the energy is for everyone. Plus we all still have plenty of space to work-out. For me this is so much better then going to the gym. Its fun, you work out all your muscles from your legs to your abs, arms,butt. I don't know how some people can say that they don't break a sweat, that's probably because they are not doing the work out correctly. The instructor's are very attentive no matter how many people are in the class. I have been telling all my friends about it and I can't imagine anyone not liking it. Only maybe the first time you might feel a little lost but practice makes perfect. Another great thing is that they have classes back to back in the morning and in the evening's so you really can't make excuses not to go regularly. So get there early to find a nice parking space and a nice spot in the class. Pay your 17 dollars. YOUR HEALTH IS WORTH IT!! read more

This place sucks. My friend and I bought Groupons together. The day before we wanted to go to class both of us repeatedly called the studio to reserve spots. We got either a busy signal or a voicemail. We left messages and nobody ever called us back. Finally, around 5:00 pm, someone answered. I explained I had a Groupon. The person just said to come to class, no reservations needed but to get there early because it gets "crowded." So on my coveted day off and my very limited free time, this was all planned out to be my activity. Mind you, I had other things I could have been doing. The first problem was the parking. There isn't any. At all. I parked on a residential street about 1/2 mile away. I'm not kidding. I finally got there and it was indeed crowded. I wondered how I would even fit in. It turned out not to matter because THEY WOULDN'T LET ME IN! They said that since I had taken a few classes IN THE NINETIES, I wasn't considered a "first time' person. They were rude and offered no apologies and kept saying this was in the "fine print." I asked to see this "fine print" and all they showed me was the sentence in the Groupon that says "first time users only". I explained that for Groupon purposes (can buy a Groupon after 6 months of using the first Groupon), I was a first time user. They didn't care. They just wanted me to leave. There were a million ways they could have handled it. First of all, I should have been able to use the Groupon. Or they could have at least just let me take that one class, they could have just charged me the Groupon rate, etc etc. Instead they were just RUDE. I called Groupon and explained what happened. Groupon told me I was indeed correct and Cardio Barre was incorrect. Per Groupon's contract with Cardio Barre, I am considered a "first time user" and should have been allowed to use the Groupon. They offered to contact Cardio Barre on my behalf but I told them I just wanted my money back. I will never go there again. I'm going back to Pure Barre Sherman Oaks, where the people are NICE. So bottom line, crowded, no parking, RUDE, and don't buy a Groupon because you will be turned away without notice. I guess they have enough customers that they can afford to be rude to people. Beware when buying a groupon for this place. Groupon as many know has a rule that it's still good for the value after it expires but this place refused to honor that which is just bad business. The only reason I still gave 2 stars instead of 1 is because the manager Hailee was nice but suggested I just spend another $50 and buy another groupon which is ridiculous when there is so much competition. I was a new client and just asked they honor two classes or even one so I feel I didn't waste my money. I see her side that they don't make money on groupon classes but they do get free advertising and I would have paid full price to renew later if I liked it. Plus they shouldn't get the benefit of using groupon then if they refuse to follow the rules and don't feel it's a benefit. This was my first experience with Cardio Barre and I must say I'm a fan! The instructors are in great shape so that really motivates me to do do better. Stacey is so sweet and really knows how to keep the class moving. I have taken both the advanced and beginners and I must say I prefer the advanced. The advanced class challenges me more and isn't as crowded. Parking isn't so great so get there early! read more
