My partner and I started our fertility journey earlier this year with CARE fertility clinic and it has been a positive experience from front staff to back office. I saw Dr. Thomas in August 2023. I decided to post this in December 2023, after I finished a second cycle with another physician, who provided me with much better care and was able to retrieve 29 eggs. Dr. Thomas only got 3, and blamed me/my body for it. my original review: My overall experience w/ Dr. Semara Thomas is that I feel she is unprofessional. I was originally going to get care with another clinic but found out that Care Fertility was having a promotion, so I decided to go with Dr. Thomas since this price was significantly lower than what the other clinics quoted me. I had obtained 2 consults with other REs in the LA area within a month prior to seeing Dr. Thomas, so this was going to be my 3rd consult. Both of the 2 other REs informed me during my consultation of the following structural abnormalities on my pelvic ultrasound: 1. The presence of a left endometrioma, whose size needed to be monitored during injections because it will grow w/ the hormones, and also it will need to avoid being punctured during egg retrieval bc it would bleed into the abdominal cavity and potentially cause an infection 2. The presence of a benign uterine fibroid (leiomyoma) in a specific location in my uterus that would make implantation of an embryo difficult - its size would need to be monitored and it would need to be surgically removed in the future before I try to get pregnant. My initial consultation with Dr. Thomas felt very rushed, and I wrongly made the assumption that she noticed the same things the 2 other RE's did on the ultrasound bc they both had noticed the endometrioma + fibroid immediately and commented on them. In general, all my appts with Dr. Thomas felt very rushed and I felt like she would get annoyed when I would try to ask her questions to try to understand something. Throughout the stims, Dr. Thomas mentioned to me at every pelvic ultrasound appt that she was expecting to retrieve around 10 eggs. Fast forward to my egg retrieval/surgery day: I was in the pre-op room lying in the hospital bed waiting to be taken to the OR. The RN was already tending to me. Dr. Thomas comes in around 7AM and says to the RN - OMG I'm sooo tired I didn't get any sleep last night and then proceeds to complain to the RN about her personal problems with her boyfriend for 20 minutes....while I am lying there waiting for her to take me to the OR! By the way, she knew I was there, because the RN had said a few minutes into the conversation "BTW Jacqueline is already here". Dr. Thomas didn't even acknowledge me. I was REALLY upset to hear the comment about her being tired right before performing a surgery on me and wanted to say something, but I felt stuck because I had already done the trigger injection and the surgery had to be done at that specific time. My biggest regret is not speaking up for myself at this time. When I woke up from the surgery, Dr. Thomas informed me that she was surprised that she punctured an endometrioma on my left ovary bc it bled and that she will be prescribing me antibiotics to prevent an infection. Apparently, she didn't know it was there. She was only able to retrieve 3 eggs from my left ovary, and 0 from the right, because the ones on the right weren't ready. It was at this moment in time where I realized she wasn't aware of the endometrioma to begin with, like the 2 other RE's had noticed :( I had a follow up visit where I wanted to ask what happened - why did we only get 3 eggs when ~10 were expected. I asked her if she triggered me too early bc she mistook the endometrioma for a follicle, and I felt she was defensive when she was explaining to me that it wasn't. I also told her how I felt it was unprofessional for her to state in front of me before a surgery that she was tired/didn't get enough sleep and complain about her boyfriend and how that conversation made me uncomfortable. Her response to this was literally "OK", no apology or anything. I pointed out that 2 other REs had noticed the endometrioma and uterine fibroid and I asked her if she had noticed these things, would the outcome have been different? She said, Jennifer, I don't understand what a growth in your uterus has to do with your egg freezing (my name is Jacqueline btw). Umm, bc I am freezing my eggs to get pregnant some day, so if I have a growth in my uterus that will prevent pregnancy, you need to be aware of it when I come back in the future to use these eggs?? I am in shock an RE made such a statement. Also, during ~9 days of stims, I had 4 pelvic ultrasound appts and my blood was drawn only 1 of these times. Most clinics in LA draw blood at every ultrasound appt, but this clinic only checked it once. I feel like they cut corners to save money. Feel free to DM me if you want more info, or if you want to know which MD I transferred my care to. I recommend to stay away from this place. Embryos/eggs are too fragile to put in bad care in my opinion. read more

Everyone has their own journey and outcome. My journey started a while back. My daughter is now 5. I first visited a different location for Care Fertility and went thru consultation and really through review of my system. The Dr took all preemptive steps to ensure my bold sugar was regulated, scanned for all blockages, etc. They were little pushy about my age and said time is of the essence to get started with IVF, which I have to agree that sooner than later is how we have to think of parenthood. However, many of us have reasons why we waited or why we never got a check up sooner. I ended up getting a procedure done by Dr. Quintero, not IVF, but 6 months later I was pregnant! Although I did not end up needing to go through IVF, I truly appreciate how through Care fertility was and took care of any possible obstacles in advance. I say any women who is having trouble conceiving, get a check up sooner than later. These things take time. Perhaps it's just something small or perhaps you need their full service, but let the experts help you out. read more

Everything he told me was straight up he didn't lie he said it like it was! I came to Care Fertility for help at the beginning of my fertility journey. They ran some tests or at least they said they did. A week later I got a call saying they didn't draw enough blood for their tests and I needed to come back. So I did. I have more blood. I never heard from them again. I called multiple times a week for 4 months and kept getting the run around about someone calling me back or them not having any record of my tests. I paid them cash as I didn't have insurance at the time. I offered to send the receipt to prove it. They told me they had no way to receive it. So an entire docs office has not one email address?!?! We had two children through Care Fertility in Glendale, my oldest if 10 and youngest is now 6. The experience at the time was great but about a week ago, I had a bad experience with the office. I think they should have more understanding in this situation but I will let the readers of this judge that. The office sent an email to my old email address saying that we owned $2400 for my sperm storage. From 2015 to 2020, they never said anything or sent an notification that they were storing my sperm. I never received the email since it was an old address, so finally when my son is six, they call me and advise me that I know owe $3200 for sperm storage. I'm not sure I even signed an agreement for sperm storage but the office person said I had. She did not offer to send a copy or anything. I don't know how others think about this but notifying someone they have a bill five years old without contacting you prior just seems a tad off. The email from 2020, actually says it slipped through the cracks.... "Dear Richard, Hope you are well and staying safe, our office is open and ready to care for our valued patients. This email is in regards to your sperm that are stored with us. Attached please find an invoice from CARE Fertility for your annual embryo, egg, or sperm cryostorage. Please note, you are able to pay online or call the clinic. These storage charges were to be charged along the years but unfortunately slipped through the cracks of our company operations. We understand that it can be overwhelming to see charges from so many years of the past and are willing to work with you when it comes to the payment amount. Feel free to contact us" So after I talked to the office in 2022 this is what they told me, no mail was ever sent or if it was it was not forwarded to our new home. "Good morning Richard, I am very sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Dr Quintero as well as the manager have assigned me the task to reach out to those who have tissue in storage. Upon reviewing your account, I did not see a signed consent where you are requesting your sperm to be disposed of. I also found statements that were mailed to your last known address on file starting 05/20/20, since the mail wasn't returned, we had no reason to suspect you were no longer living at that same address. The same goes for the emails we sent you, they were never returned or bounced back. We are bound by extremely strict regulations when it comes to storing samples so as soon as we received your notarized consent we will be able to dispose of your cryopreserved sperm to avoid additional future storage fees. Keeping tissue frozen is costly, but we would be happy to provide you with a discount or a monthly payment plan. I'm sorry that the operations team didn't bill you in a timely manner, but that doesn't absolve you from your financial responsibility. We still provided a service and maintained your sperm in the even you wanted to use it in the future. Respectfully," I only spent about $40K with them having two wonderful children, I guess I just at the least they could offer more to settle these charges. Seems shady. read more

Worst experience ever with Dr Quintero! They brought me into a room and asked me my plans for payment and when I planned to conceive. I told them I was only there for an evaluation so I could make a decision and was treated very poorly. I went into an exam room and without taking my blood count, and only doing a vaginal scan, he made the ugliest comment toward me. I was 35 and thought I had fertility issues. He said "Well there's your problem! You're not getting pregnant because you have the eggs of an 85 year old lady! You're going to need IVF, and even then there's no guarantee" He diagnosed me with 'diminished ovarian reserve' which a blood test is actually required. I hate this man and his insensitivity, I'm not sure how he's still in practice! Horrible bedside manner! I am now 6mos pregnant and my gyno couldn't believe what I experienced at this awful clinic. read more

My partner and I came for a consultation here last week. When we got there, we were asked to wait in the waiting room for a few minutes. Eventually, someone came out and ushered us in. This person who ushered us in didn't introduce themselves, nor did they welcome us to the facility. I would later find out that we were talking to Dr. Semara Thomas (based on the name plate on her desk), who didn't even bother to introduce herself. The first question she asked before we could be seated was "How can I help you?" This is a fertility clinic. I think everyone has the same goal here. My partner and I both already felt put off by this doctor's "introduction" before we even sat down, so we didn't answer the question. When we finally took our seats, my partner proceeded to engage the doctor by asking a question which she ignored. Instead, she repeated her original question this time a little more bluntly, "How can I help you?" At this point, I knew this consultation was not going to be very helpful for us. Dr. Thomas continued the consult peppering my partner with question after question, not fully stopping to really understand our unique situation. We spent a maximum of 5 minutes with Dr. Thomas, and both of us couldn't have gotten out of there quicker. Dr. Quintero, I know this is your facility. Perhaps you need to review with Dr. Thomas best practices with customers. She clearly needs to learn some manners. read more

I writing this review after 2 years of services by Dr. Quintero and his amazing staff. First I would like to preface that I was seeing a clinic in Beverly Hills years ago and was not satisfied with the treatment. I came across Care Fertility through a friend who referred me. There are many many things that I like about this office and staff. First the staff is very friendly, nice and I can say I always looked forward to seeing the gals at each visit. I had my assigned coordinator, Yeandry, who was always available by email and text everyday, all day. This was most helpful to have all my questions answered. She was never bothered about my questions and always kept me positive even in my lowest moments. Dr. Quintero was very professional and most knowledgeable in the area of fertility in advance age women. What I really appreciated was his honest answers and how he analyzed every step of every moment in every visit. Sometimes plans got changed at the last minute because my body reacted differently and he said "I want everything to be perfect to move forward". It all makes sense now. If you're going all in and trying to get pregnant, you have to look at all angles and make the best professional judgement in order to increase the chances of success. I never got upset when the plan changed and put my trust in Dr. Quintero. I know that getting pregnant, under any circumstances, is never guaranteed. But as a patient, you always want to know your doctors is making the best possible judgement to obtain the best possible results. Although I have a history of many failed cycles, I am proud to say that I am 10 weeks pregnant with my first child. Our journey may have taken a bit longer, but Dr. Thomas was there to hold my hand the entire way. This post is long overdue. We came here not knowing what to expect as a LGBT couple already trying at home insemenation's 3x prior. I didn't have much faith that I'd be able to get pregnant and thought something was wrong with me but we took a chance with with Dr.Thomas who we loved. During our initial consultation she explained everything very thoroughly and chose to go the route with doing a medicated IUI so I felt like our chances hand increased. Well... it actually did. We did our medicated IUI treatment in July of 2021 and in March of 2022 of sweet baby girl was born. My nurses Stephanie and Natasha are more than accommodating in regards to treatment, and work around my busy work schedule to accommodate my care. They are beyond empathetic and fully explain the process in detail. They've also made themselves available 24 hours a day 7 days a week for my many questions. I have their emails, and cell numbers because YES THEIR AVAILABLE FOR YOU AFTER BUSINESS HOURS. I'm always greeted by name, and with a smile from their wonderful front desk team. I'm also beyond thankful to the practice administrator Nayson, who has personally checked in on my treatment and has made himself available with anything and everything he can to help. Our journey with CARE fertility started with a referral in April 2021 that landed us a consultation with Dr. Quintero in May 2021! We couldn't be any more thankful for the referral, Dr. Quintero and his team have been extremely helpful. As most, our knowledge surrounding IVF was minimal and our desire for a family was high! They sent us a surprise bill for over 400$ for a simple STD blood work for my partner before starting the IVF treatment. I have repeatedly asked if there will be any costs (other than the 300$ sperm test they took from me immediately) during that visit. They said no other charges will be billed. These tests are free in all public centers and through almost all insurance providers. Neither financial breakdown of the costs nor the treatment plan were provided to us. Also they keep sending texts saying they will give you a 25% discount but when you go and ask for that they don't provide it. They just want your money. If you value financial transparency and want empathic and professional care, do not come here. I cannot reply to the response below so I will write it here: It is completely deceiving to say that this bill did not come from you. I have never been to Labcorp in my life. I didn't even know their name until I got a bill from them due to a test requested from you. I came to your clinic to receive treatment. If you are working with an external lab for certain tests and they will be billing me for those tests, you have to disclose this information to me. Assuming no responsibility for the bills sent out to your patients from your partnering labs is unacceptable. It is your responsibility to disclose all your procedures, which tests are in-house and which ones are sent out to external labs and the exact costs associated with each one of these tests. Your financial coordinator needs to communicate all this information in written format, with an itemized list, to your patients. Hope you can fix it in the future for the sake of your patients. read more

I want to thank all the staff that were able to help me with my fertility journey. I had been trying to conceive for the last 2 years and it felt unattainable until I came here. Since the beginning my coordinator Mayra walked me through the steps and when I finally met with Dr. Thomas and Lily, they assured me that they would do their best to help me. 6 months later I am 10 weeks pregnant with my little miracle.
